Hey Guys,
I dont know if many of you have noticed this but.. I feel that nexus 4 camera now takes better sharper images with stock app then jellybean... Any of you guys still on older version so we can do the comparison?
I am stock unrooted.. by the look of it images look sharper and more detailed then earlier
I'm running Stock 4.4.2 no-root, no nothing. Ever since I updated OTA my camera sucks. Is someone else experiencing the same? It's just whole lot of awful pictures now
Same problem here - I actually found this thread trying to figure out why my pictures suck. They're grainy as hell and i get alot of blurry pics if the flash is off.

wow i have the opposite
i get more sharper and detailed images..
weird I find the camera quality much better with Kitkat.
I didn't notice much difference.. But I would say 4.4.2 is a bit better than 4.3! I'M under the impression that the camera'a auto-focus is a bit faster too
looks for Jishnu´s LG Camera, here in xda, you will be amazed.
was there any fix to the overly blue-purple tint to the photos? i remember when i first got my nexus 4 the pictures always had a very blue or purple tint, so bad in fact that i completely stopped using it for picture taking. but now that 4.4 has come out i wonder if there has been any change? or did anyone ever come out with a mod or patch for the bad camera tint?
bump
anyone?
Don't know about the blue tint, but I always find the photos kind of washed out. Just use Picasa to fix the white balance.

I just wanted to know if you guys were getting the same issue.. My xoom is taking awfully blurry pictures, even when im standing still. Either the stabilization is horrid or my camera is messed up.
Feedback? Thanks!
I was just about to post about this as well. I'm hoping its a software issue because when taking landscape photos especially the blurryness is terrible.

It is night now so I cannot take any daytime pics but I have not noticed anything like that. Here are a couple pics I just took outside with the flash on. Look fine to me.
Yeah I didn't have a problem earlier, took this a few hours ago, completely freehand. View attachment 527589

Any particular settings? Mine don't look nearly as sharp. Does your display look blurry before hand? or is it that clear all the way through? I've noticed they look a lot better when i preview them back in the gallery than while i'm taking them. Ugh. I feel like i've run into this problem before... oh yeah, my droid x..

The display looks somewhat pixelated but the actual photo looks much better.
In order to not take away from this thread and to keep things organized I am starting a Camera comparison thread seperately
Mine too, but i'm using captivate
I just upgraded to serendipity's latest rom (6.3, 2.2.1) and all of a sudden, my photos are all very blurry and poorly exposed.
the camera worked GREAT on the stock rom.
any ideas or help is very appreciated.

What does this have to do with the Xoom?
I was having the same problem. After taking the picture install QuickPic. There is a problem with the stock honeycomb picture viewer.

From my experience, the pictures look quite bad when viewing them on the Xoom (via the gallery app), but once you offload them and look at them on the computer they look quite good. Do you have auto-focus turned on in the camera settings, and are you holding down the shutter long enough to let it focus? You may accidentally have the camera set to not focus or be in macro mode, which would lead to quite the blurry picture.
Offload some of ur pics onto a computer and see if they still seem blurry.
FWIW it seems like macro shots are the only ones that actually look half-decent on the Xoom itself.

Thanks for the suggestion. This actually shows the pictures clearly. Wonder whatsup with the stock Gallery app?
also keep in mind that a tablet is not the optimal platform for taking pics. Image stabilization, while good, cannot work miracles and the tablet form factor is not the easiest to hold steady while taking a pic....
Quality is just OK, my phone is far better for taking pictures.. I didn't expect much from a tablet anyways..
Video camera is decent aswell, however the stuttering issue I had with my first 2 wifi xooms still exists, oh well, I prob wont even use this for recording anyways...

i too was very disappointed about the camera first. blurry, laggy etc. wasn't at all what the community and reviews told it to be. then the phone started rebooting randomly and i went back to the retailer and got a new one. random reboots is gone and this camera is everything i hoped for. like two different cameras.. would try to go to a retailer and compare pictures with another phone.
The have been multiple reports of units shipping with badly scratched lens glass. FYI...

what did you do? my G2's camera is also very poor. is it a hardware issue? should i change the phone?
uSING iNTERNATIONALL VERSION AND NO ISSUES WITH THE CAMERA. OS 4.4.2 UPDATED 3 WEEKS AGO
Maybe you should use this mod http://www.xda-developers.com/android/mod-for-the-lg-g2-brings-120-fps-and-4k-ultra-hd-video-recording/ if it's not from the hardware
Hello,
it might be asked a lot of times, but I, personally, cant find any info on how to improve Samsung Galaxy S4's camera.
I updated my S4 from 4.2.2 to 4.3 (and regret it deeply) and found that fantastic picture quality from 4.2.2 version is poor at best with 4.3.
I tried to change ISO, picture quality to 13 and then to 9.6 MP, update camera firmware but the picture quality is still poor.
I would like to go back to 4.2.2 version but because of KNOX Warranty I'm a bit scared (still have 1.5 years of varranty).
So I would like you to ask you all for help - is it possible to get picture quality to 4.2.2 version's or maybe somehow get 4.2.2 version's camera app. I don't know, my knowledge is very limited when it comes to Android stuff.
Hope you can help me.
Sincerely,
a new member
U cant come back to 4.2.2 without void the warranty
What do you mean by poor quality? I'm on 4.3 and i've realised a lot of my pics are blurry, i just assumed i've not been holding the camera still when taking pictures but it's happening quite often. When i think about it, i don't remember it happening when i first got the phone.
edit: Here's a good example of a recent pic that has come out partially blurry, this doesn't happen on every photo and it's rarely blurry across the whole thing, notice how the image is much sharper near the bottom, and how bad it looks towards the top. I'm sure this is a software problem.

Would different camera software solve this problem (or at least help me troubleshoot?) or is this something that needs to be fixed with an updated kernel?
just got the phone brand new yesterday coming from an s3 and i can instantly notice the camera is somewhat worse?
this is very obvious in low light, even with light the photos seem to look grainy like the phone is always zoomed in. am i missing something? any tips here from other S5 owners
i'm on stock 4.4.2 rooted
sample images below, the quality on the s3 while darker seems much more sharper.
sorry here are the right attachments
left is the S5 while right is the s3.
the S5 is so grainy i can barely see any detail, it appeals very grainy on the phone's screen also while taking the shot
That was taken on stock rom..
Try with flash ON mate
same problem,,

i feel this is a really silly thing.
especially coming from an S3 and to the newer S5, the phone looks like it is always zoomed it when taking a photo.. it is THAT grainy in low light
i have seen some reviews and threads about the front facing camera being grainy which i can understand but this is the rear camera?
my S3 camera, while darker is much much more sharper than the S5 which is quite disappointing.
does anyone have any ideas or thoughts?
try
turning on image stabilisation, its S5's night mode.

+1. Stabilization is the key [emoji4]
I just got a new S5 2 days ago, and the main reason was to upgrade the camera from my old Nexus 4. However, to me it seems like the pictures are fairly poor quality compared to my wife's Nexus 5. The Nexus 5 is supposed to have a fairly bad camera, so I was expecting a big upgrade when going to the S5. The colors look washed out and not as vivid as the N5 when shooting in default mode. The focusing also seems to be pretty bad even outside in bright sunlight. Attached is a picture taken with the Nexus 5 (173402), then two taken with the S5. Do these look normal to owners of the S5?

Hello,
I'm not sure I see a strong difference between the photos you provided, I say focusing is bad but on the uploaded photo (maybe uploading downsizes them) I do not see any thing out of focus.
Maybe you can upload 1X crop part of the images for better comparison?
I have an S5 and I do not see something wrong from what you uploaded.
You can find a ranking of all camera phones here: http://www.dxomark.com/Mobiles
What is important I guess is to understand if your phone is defective but from uploaded photos it is difficult to conclude anything.

They do look washed out and strange colours compared to mine
Which version Android you running on it?
Have you got it cranked up to full resolution in the camera settings? looks like you're using 4:3 there, max rez is 16:9 (5312x2988)
It's not normal but i don't think it's a hardware issue it might be a software issue or bad settings are you sure you're using 16megapixels ?
I'll turn up the resolution since it's probably not set to that. It's running 4.4.4, which is the latest OTA at the moment I believe. I'll upload the same scene with the 16MP setting, but I don't know if that will help the colors. Your picture definitely looks better and crisper.

Hello,
Is it possible the photos you took where taken when more or less facing the sun. I had some similar color "issues" in that case. On my photos it looks more like a lens flare issues but it make photos color look washed away.
So after taking more pictures today the quality is vastly better. I don't know what changed since 16MP was already on. I did notice that in low light the camera is very poor at focusing and is prone to heavy blurring. I can can deal with that now. Thanks for all the suggestions.
