hi all this is my fist post for the s4 and i think someone will flame a bit for my noob level
im not completely noob in first case ,i had an hd2 for 3 year and changed all OS and Android roms like a paranoid for better performance and so on
i have by 2 months this fantastic phone s4 italian version i9505 not branded so i think its the same of all of u
now i tested it for long time in stock mode its come the time to try everything i can but i have lots of doubds watching all guides i found
first question...is there a step by step guide for flash a new rom? i found someone to change kernel with odin but i still dont understand how to install clockwork to the phone to install a rom
second question..as i come from hd2 it had to be unlocked from bootloader before u can install maglr or other stuff but i didnt see anything about this on the s4,i suppose its because its not needed but ask before brick its always a good way to proceed
i read about most of i found in noob sticked post but or i missed something or i really need to read again everything,if someone can link me a guide it will be very appreciated cos sometime i confuse things to do and in wich order
thx for everyone will give me any hint and sorry for my english hehe

1,backup
2.wipe data/factory reset
3.install zip from sd card
4 chose zip from sd crd

6 chose rom and wait
7 reboot
nope in i9500 and i9505 im not 100% sure just 99% u can ask someone else

Hey just got my edge today, looks like there is very little going on as it was just released a few days ago despite it being out in the states for quite some time, the only difference I believe is the LTE in the Canadian version.
Anyways, coming from the note 2, 3 and 4 and the trtlecan version always being close to the trtletmo I decided to risk it and flash the tmo cf auto root and recovery despite there being no stock firmware laying around on sammmobile the others..
annnd I'm happy to report that I now have a TWRP recovery, rooted, SM-N915W8.
go ahead and follow the very detail steps in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-edge/general/easy-steps-stock-odin-n915tuvu1anjl-sm-t2943993
MAKE SURE TO READ THE PART ABOUT IT FAILING (to flash cwm) AND THAT BEING OK being flashing TWRP
and then the BRIGHTNESS SETTINGS inside recovery which will look like you have sleep lock if you don't fix them before letting the screen timeout
and have all 4 files on hand before you start!
Awesome, thanks for the info, I was debating it but just was being a chicken. I'm glad everything worked out. Did you make a nand? If so did you flash the nand just to make sure everything was OK? Are your root apps working without issues.? I don't mind taking the risk...just wanna be sure

Thank you for your insight @gundal

Yes, I tried reflashing the backup and all is good.
Hyperdrive didn't work even with restoring our boot sector (kernel)

Glad you guys are having luck with the Canadian model. I jumped the gun and imported one from Korea as soon as it was released and it's an awesome device!
Enjoy!
Were you guys able to flash a custom ROM? Which ROMS will work with the Canadian version? And which US Model number is 'equivalent' to the Canadian one?

Anyone try any T-Moble stuff? I didnt look myself but I ask because we all used the tmoble stuff for our old Canadian Note3s ... could be the same senerio. I think that Tmoble kernels should work..
There might be a version of Hyperdrive for tmoble..

Dont worry about it, someone else who had this problem fixed it by formatting cache - did that and everything went fine.

Tried flashing Hyperdrive Edge for T-Mo with both twrp (2.8.1.1) and cwm (6.0.5.1 Xiaolu) referenced in the root guide by OP. They flashed without error but I got bootlooped both times. Luckily backup/restore works for both recoveries.
Does anyone know of a way to get back to stock recovery after flashing cwm or twrp? Any known location of a stock image?

Go to sammobile web site...download the original firmware for your model and flash it. When u flash original firmware everything will be back to stock including recovery..and you will be able to receive ota update. To flash stock firmware...just use odin. Yeah I know about sammobile, flashing via Odin etc. There's no stock firmware uploaded for the Canadian variants yet so I was wondering of an alternate method to flash the stock recovery. I tried extracting the recovery from the stock image via ADB shell, converting to tar.md5, then flashing with Odin but it failed....likely because I'm rooted. Guess I'll have to wait until the firmware gets uploaded. Thanks anyway.
Try contacting the sammobile team...and their forum..they maybe able to help..

Not yet. I check daily. I'm hoping someone will be able to capture it via Kies when Lollipop rolls out. It's only matter of time before sammobile gets it.

Dear guys,
I had updated my kitkat 4.4.2 to lollipop 5.0 but I faced to major problems which are:
1. My screen shoot (Screen write) function works for maybe 3 or 4 times only and then nothing happens when I get out my pen and press it, so I have to restart the device to make it work for more 3 or 4 times!!!
2. I cannot find a good way to root after upgard it to lollipop. :crying: :crying:

Make sure you have done a clean installation of the ROM. By clean installation I mean make a full wipe, from TWRP (a custom recovery), go to Advanced Wipe and select everything except your external SD, in case you have one installed. Then flash the latest Lollipop ROM via Odin. The latest stable LP ROM I found to be OF3, so get that from sammobile.com.
And root can't be more easy. When you are done flashing the stock ROM via Odin just place this zip on your phone, https://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip, reboot to recovery, which will be TWRP (and after flashing the stock ROM you will have to reflash TWRP, cause flashing stock ROM always installs the stock recovery), and just install the zip from there, done.

I seriously f***** up for the first time while trying to flash a custom rom on my cousin's Note 3 SM-N900. I was able to install TWRP and i proceeded to flash a custom rom directly from within TWRP. I kind of got ahead of myself and proceeded to delete/wipe/erase just about everything on the phone before flashing (dalvik, wipe data, cache etc..) and then i proceeded to Install the custom rom directly within TWRP.
Yes i agree i was careless and ****ed up quite a bit but i was so sure it would not go wrong. But it did. Now the phone only loads the initial 'Samsung SM-N900' boot screen and then goes to black. I can still access TWRP and Download modes at will but i am unable to flash a rom or a stock firmware that will work on the phone. I dont know if i ****ed up the bootloader, modem, kernel, etc, but i reckon i did some pretty good damage.
But the fact i can still access TWRP and Download modes gives me hope that i get right my wrongs with your guidance! Please guys help a poor soul out!
So what did you flash or is it a secret rom ?

Since term flashing is mostly used with recovery mode, so did he put it on download mode and BL the offical bootloader and PA/PDA the software that supports the same bootloader?

An idea that is maybe a bit risky is to put back the normal (stock) recovery and try to restore update from sd card or something like that... I'm not sure how safe it is so use it as a least resort... I didn't even hear anything like that its just an idea, it may not work... But hope it helps
Hi
I have a similar problem. I have a note 3 with original UK ROM and wanted to flash my operator ROM to get wifi calling. Both are android 5.0
The problem is after trying to flash the first time I had a problem that the new ROM would not fully flash. reading posts I understood I had to flash PIT file which I downloaded and flashed. After flashing PIT the new ROM did not go in so I flashed my original UK.
After reboot I kept getting security warnings that something has changed and I should reboot. After several boots the problem did not go away.
So I tried to flash ROM again, different tries between UK ROM and my operator ROM, but the phone now only loops at booting. Sometimes it gets stuck at first Samsung screen.
Can anyone please help?
Thank you
I understood I had to flash PIT file NO NO NO .
You don't flash a PIT file without good reason .
SM900 is EXYNOS not Qualcomm model .
So what phone model do you actually have as this threads question is N900 .
Ok sorry I have 9005.
Hello, I was trying to flash my Note 3 HLTE (9005) into note 7 rom. it requires aroma installer, witch requires older twrp. as soon as i get TWRP on my device i cant get any files on there trough pc. it automaticly conects as hlte not my device name, and also it cant flash anything. thanks for help. i need the old version cause its the only one that works to flash those cool roms.
thank you all.

As above post makes no sense at all .
You put the custom ro on your ext sd card then flash from TWRP .
Its possible judged by your post that you have flashed the TWRP that is not for your model .
But impossible to say as no details .

also, i tried cwm too. it gets stuck in extracting.

if someone gets like some symlinks failed error
or the aroma installer stuck on 15% or so, wipe your phone, right before installing the rom!
Have a great one guys!:highfive:
