Ok, so a few months ago I updated my Vega to VegaBean, but I was careless in the SD formatting bit, I forgot to format the EXT4 partition, because so, I had little to no app space in the tablet. Recently I tried to format my SD to put the FAT32 partition and the EXT4 partition, but apparently my sd card reader or my sd card were acting up, after a few tries of not working, I got it to read the EXT4 partition but then the other partition went unreadable, this followed for a few tries and a reset to factory. The tablet now won't boot, it just gives me backlight. Should I flash back to stock as said in the adventvega using the 1.10 stock provided in their site? Or I could try with any rom?
EDIT: Reflashed (from linux even!) with good ol' VegaBean and it worked.
Thanks in advance

It started with I repartitioned it using the Aman RA recovery "Part SD: fat32+ext2+swap" and flashed a Hero ROM. It worked fine. When I wiped and restored CM 4.1.999 (nandroid) I couldn't get to any of my programs or anything else on the SD Card. After some wiping and some trial and error I said screw it and re-formatted (via Windows) and re-partitioned my card via recovery. Again, I couldn't access any of my programs or the card.
I can format the card as one 7.x GB partition and it seems to be OK, but when I try to partition into fat23+ext2+swap via recovery (or any combination of more than one partition using Paragon Partition Manager) it is rendered unusable. If I re-mount it to my computer I get that the drive is not formatted.
If I format it it to one partition and then try to create multiple partitions via Paragon I get "A new partition cannot be created on this hard disk. Most probably, all primary slots are occupied and there is no extended partition."
Any ideas?

I just recovered mine from this the other day...when I went into parted it was not showing the label of "primary" which was signifying it was not actually an initialized partition....even though I told it mkpartfs primary fat32 and put the parameters for it...
My fix was to use my Mac and format it to FAT standard (not FAT32) which allowed it to be seen in my Vista machine downstairs....when I insert it asked to format and I said no (as it would only format 200MB and leave the other 7.6GB unusable) and went into Manage under My Computer (right click, choose Manage) then went down and right clicked the SDHC card and chose to format it to FAT32..which it did.
Put the memory card back in the phone, went back to parted and redid my partitions and they showed the "primary" label as they should...took card out of the phone, put back in the Mac and copied over the zip I wanted to flash to the FAT32...put back in the phone and flashed with Amun-RA 1.2.3
why dont you partition using gparted on the G1? try formatting it within windows first, and then using the gparted method. it may work, may just have been a bad format/partition the first time.

I've used sdpart in the recovery. I thought that used gparted?
I also had this problem with Paragon, I formatted the card and partitioned using gparted boot cd. Works great now.
Hello everyone,
I recently got an HTC aria from AT&T.
After a few days I went ahead and rooted the phone.
At first I decided to try the liberated Aria (éclair) rom. It was a good experience. But just last night I decided to try another rom, so I went with Cyanogenmod 6.1.1.
While I was using liberated aria, I used rom manager to partition my sd card with the ext filesystem, so I could move some apps to it and open up some space from my phone's internal storage.
This space, while I never figured out how to move the apps, always showed in titanium backup.
With the move to Cyanogenmod 6.1.1, this partition doesn't show at all!, in fact my sd card is at 1.7 Gb!, it's like I lost an extra 0.25 Gb (which is the partition size I chose in rom manager before)... I tried partitioning in cyanogenmod with rom manager again, but then my sd card took another 0.25 Gb hit and went to 1.5 Gb!...
How do I get back to my 2Gb sdcard space? furthermore how I do partition the card such that I can extend my internal storage for apps?
Thanks
Andres
I use gparted on linux to do that. I'm not sure what OS you use, but there are live cds you could use.
But on gparted, you should be able to see all the partitions on the card and manage them as necessary.
In order to use the ext partition, you should darktremor's app2sd. Ext3 is the filesystem you should use, but ext2 works as well I believe.

thanks, I use Debian Squeeze on desktop and testing on laptop.
I just got gparted, but it says my external storage is only 1.7 Gb!
Like I said...the extra 0.25 Gb is no longer being mounted with the sdcard and it somewhere lost in the filesystem and/or apportioned to some obscure directory...
Hmmm... that is quite odd. I know some sd cards aren't actually what they state. My 8GB card only shows as 7.8GB for example.
Try formatting the whole card (Back up first!!) And see if it comes back somehow. I am not a sd card expert.

thats what i'd recommend.
when you installed cm6, did you do a wipe data? did you notice if it said it was wiping the ext partition? i'd guess cm6 isn't noticing the space because it was partitioned separately from the rom install.
backup your important data, format the card, and try repartitioning it again now that you've got cm6 installed.
well I'm not entirely sure why it worked this time, but I was able to fully format the card. Now I'm back to 2Gb (well, really 1.84 Gb, but that's right)
The problem I think was that I was formatting with Rom manager, and it was ignoring the extra unrecognized space. What I did different this time, is that I went into settings > sd card & storage > unmount sd card > format sd card > mount sd card > sucess!
So this successfully formatted the whole card.
Thanks for your pointers
Unfortunately trying to partition it again failed.
I tried gparted and it successfully formatted a part of the card with the ext3 filesystem (while leaving the rest as unallocated -- at least this is what gparted said). Unfortunately when mounting the sd card on my phone it complained that the card had been damaged. So I had to reformat it, undoing the previous partitioning.
Then I tried rom manager again, but the way it works is by going into recovery and partitioning the card there. Unfortunately, clockworkmod recovery showed a warning sign ( triangle with an exclamation mark in it) above an android and froze there...I had to pull the battery out to reboot my phone.
I guess my oldish version of gparted (0.7.0) doesn't like the YAF filesystem (YAFFS). So perhaps when it partitions the card, it screws up the existing YAFFS partition. I'll try to use gparted again to partition the card fully, 256 Mb ext3 as extra app storage and the rest, I guess ext3 as well.
Andres
I finally did get it to work on both R012 and FR008 (as well as CM6.1.1 and CM7)
I formatted the sdcard with gparted (chose a 512 Mb ext3 partition with 32 Mb Swap). Then from android's terminal emulator (as root) I typed
Code:
a2sd check
and it enabled apps2sd using darktremor just fine. It became aware of my ext3 partition.
Hi all,
I formatted my card last month for A2SD use. All was fine untill today, I pulled the SD card out without dismounting it (idiot I know...). Now nothing seems to do anything on my SD card.
Partition managers see it, I used 3 of them. I tried deleting the FAT partition (the EXT partition looks like unallocated space :S). But when I hit apply, nothing happends. I tried format without the quick option, it formatted succesfully but still I cant get rid of the 1GB ext2 partition.
I'm trying the SDFormatter tool used for deleting the WP7 partition but it freezes when it boots, so it isn't looking that good either...
Does anyknow know any other tricks to get my SD back?
- Rob
Got it formatted again! Slowly but surely the SDFormatter did it's job . For anyone with the same problem try: http://www.mediafire.com/?kl563ku3pnn3o25 .
I installed the latest SwiftDroid v2.0 RC4.
Before it I wiped everything.
After flashing I entered into Clockwork Recovery. I wiped data again (I had problem with repartitioning so I did it again), and then s*it happened.
I didn't know it will wipe out SD card ! I backuped it, and it wouldn't be problem if it wiped it.
The problem is, it erased ext2 partition, swap partition, and heavily crippled main FAT32 partition. Now my microSD card has only 1,86 GB, and it has 4 GB capacity! The half capacity is gone ! I checked in MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition, and couldn't beleive. OK, maybe MiniTool is wrong. I booted Parted Magic, and the same s*it !
Is there any way o claim back lost 2 GB of space, or should I go and buy new microSD?

In MiniTool or parted magic, delete all of the partitions on your SDCard. Then create a fat32 partition from the unallocated space. Note: You WILL lose all data from the SDCard when doing this. Then try re-partitioning using clockwork. Also, you don't need the ext2 partition if you are planning to use apps2sd in swiftdroid, as you can use Android's built in one that doesn't require a seperate SDCard partition.

I forgot to type I did it.
I deleted partition (it wasn't FAT32, it was FAT16 after CR messed up!), and microSD has only 1,86 GB.
Entered in Clockwork Recovery, and it can't mount microSD card.
Frustrating.

You can try something but it requires Ubuntu installed or livecd (Not sure if other distros have the same utility)
Put your SDCard into a card reader (or you can try and mount it using USB) and then search Disk Utility from the Unity menu and open it (or in the standard user interface go to System>Administration>Disk Utility)
Click on your SDCard in the sidebar, and then Choose 'Format Drive' (at the top) Choose Master Boot Record and then click ok. Then format the SDCard as FAT32.
Basically after I create an ext4 partition on unallocated space and then hit apply, it thinks for a few minutes then acts as if eveyrthing's cool, after I re-instert the card back, the space is AGAIN unallocated instead of being ext4 1gb.
Why is that happening? Thus preventing me from intalling NexusHD JB Rom.
Check the read only tab on the sd adapter if you are using one. With the card in can you copy and delete any files from the fat 32 partiton?

i saw that too, when i was setting up to multiboot wp7 and nativesd,,, , it wouldnt create and format the ext, , i got around it by creating the partition, applying, , exiting the app, removing the sd card, reinserting the sd, restarting minitool and formatting the partition. Took me several goes before it stuck.
so did you fix it finally?
EASEUS Partition Master 7.1.1 Home Edition
try this partition
both the sd's should be connected via usb not via card reader slot or something !
make the partition from the phone
