I recently bought a nexus 4 second hand, came rooted/recovery/etc. Front facing camera is not working right. It's sensitive, pointing it at a bright window will make it turn a shade of white, pointing it at a face will make it go a shade of pink. I went back to stock 4.4.2 and the issue is still present.
Would this be software or hardware caused, and if so, what is the problem I'm looking at?
Thanks in advance!

Hello to all of you,
I checked the thread and I did not find anybody with this kind of problem.
Until yesterday camera was working perfectly, then yesterday I tried to take a photo and all I could see in the screen were green, yellow, pink, etc. lines flickering. I dont know, is this a software or a hardware problem. I got my device two weeks ago so warranty should apply, but I hate to lose two week at least in repair.
I've tried soft reset and hard reset non of them works.
cheers
As you have hard reset, I'd say it's a hardware problem.
Mike
It is strange, because when I get my hand or anything near the lens (I mean very near) the screen is ok, but the moment I move my hand from the lens it starts again.
Makes me wonder if the auto light level adjustment is faulty. i.e. with something very close to the lens the light level will be very low. But regardless it still seems like a hardware issue.
Mike
Thanks for your help Mike. It looks I'll have to send it for repair.
Cheers
i had the same problem with my 8525 so i got it replaced and seem to have the same problem again. Seems when there is good lighting there is no problem once its kinda dark all the colors come back. Also mines fine untill i try to chnage from auto light to like indoor lighting.
Hi, my front facing camera does not seem to work, only a dark fuzzy screen appears & there appears to be a line across the lens, is this right?
Thanks.
Any one??????
i have the same problem but as we dont have 3g network in Turkey it is not a big deal for me By the way i have no idea to fix it, i've searched the e-bay for a new front camera and the one i found has the same problem like the old one...
I'm having a couple of issues / annoyances that I cannot seem to find fixes or work arounds for.
Are these normal things that everyone is experiencing or is it a problem just with my N4, and may need to be replaced?
My phone is stock, and un-rooted.
1. Camera (main) continuously refocuses when in camera app. It only locks for a few seconds after taping the screen. A bit annoying but workable. The problem arises in Skype (and I guess in any other app), when using the main (back) camera it continuously focuses and refocuses every couple of seconds which makes it almost useless when trying to use the main camera to show the person on the other end something.
Is there a way to lock the focus, or tweak how often it refocuses?
2. Light sensor sensitivity: When brightness is set to auto, the brightness bumps up and down every minute or 2. The sensor is too sensitive or the software is too aggressive. I'm stationary and lighting in the room is constant, but I guess slight angle changes in my hand are causing enough fluctuations to initiate an adjustment. And the adjustments aren't smooth, they are steps, so they get annoying after a while.
Besides switching off auto brightness, is there a way to tweak sensor sensitivity?
bump.
no one else has these issues or is annoyed by them?

I have the focusing issue too. In Camera if I tap the screen to focus on something, it stays there for 3-4 seconds and then re-focuses at the center of the screen. Very annoying.
For the light sensor, I found that the automatic brightness was awful so I changed to manual brightness. Easier than tweaking I guess
about the camera, i've got the same issues as you
Ok thanks for the replies. At least I know I'm not having a one off issue particular to my unit.
Both of these issues should be software related, hopefully they will come to someone's attention and get sorted out. They're not deal breakers but annoyances that shouldn't be there in a final product imo.
Google is working on a patch for the camera right now. Sit tight and we should have a fix coming soon

Where did you hear that from?

Hi,
I just got my Galaxy S5 (G900M). I am experiencing an annoying issue while using the front camera (selfie style...). It appears that the image is distorted if the phone is not straight in front of the object. I guess my sensor is defective or something. I tried to set the camera differently but no changes. Did you have this problem? Is it an hardware issue? Any fix?
Thanks for your feedback.
Damien.
PS: see attached how my pics look like.
Nobody to help me? I did some researches, I am not the only one apparently but I did not see any 'solution' to this problem. I am going to return the phone.
Hi All!
I had recently bought my mother an S4 i9506, and recently she has switched to a flip cover (with a magnet - what I think to have caused the problem)
Now what happens is if anyone's finger or any object for that matter covers any one of the two sensors next to the earpiece (the 2 that are directly next to each other with the right one of bigger size) the screen turns black until the object is taken away.
[EDIT] its the proximity/gesture sensor
Now this is really annoying and internet searching has turned up nothing of use to me, So any help is welcome.
It just renders the phone useless practically as the sensor seems super sensitive and I have no Idea of how to at least switch it off.
Thanks in advance
