[Q] Can't enable encryption on Nexus 4 - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am running cyanogenmod 10.2 stable on my Nexus 4 and I am trying to enable disk encryption in order to be able to use the stock Email app to access my work email account, which is an ActiveSync Exchange account that enforces disk encryption. I have set up a numerical PIN and then when I try to enable encryption, it flashes a picture of a wireframe android for a second and then reboots without encrypting my phone. any way to fix this? I'd really rather not spend $20 on Touchdown to use a function that my phone supports for free

Have you tried it on a stock rom? Could be a CM issue. What recovery are you using? AFAIK CWM does not support encryption so try with TWRP too.
There's also a module for xposed framework that bypasses exchange security policies.

The power and flexibility of Android never ceases to amaze me! Until now, I've only ever used xposed on devices that didn't have custom firmware available like my kids' el-cheapo tablets. I never would have thought to check if you could actually do anything USEFUL with xposed. Thank you so much!!! FINALLY!!! I can get my corporate email in the same place as my 3 other email accounts, and I don't have to use that God awful piece of crapware called Touchdown! Just pure, unadulterated, email connectivity bliss.

[Q] Encryption, Security and Root (Android work device)

My place of work has moved over to Google, but for me to add the Google Apps account I need to install the security module which then enforces encryption if I wish to access the account.
I've done it on my Nexus 7, and am wondering about doing it on my Note 3.
My only concern is that I don't like using passwords on my phone. I've never lost one or had one stolen (touches wood) and never suffered any problems by not locking my device.
If I encrypt, from what I can see, it's a one way street. Is this correct? I can't change my mind and un-encrypt it? Can I wipe and that will start fresh, no encryption?
Also, will me being rooted and on a custom ROM cause any problems?
Thanks for any help offered (Please lets not get into an argument about why I shouldn't mind it having a lock screen)

Once done yes it can be undone by wiping the device and starting from scratch.
As for using with rooted/custom ROMs - encryption itself works, but whether your software for your work stuff works is a different matter.

[Q] Anyone have FoxFi working in 4.4.2 NC4?

I'm stumped here. I can't for the life of me get it to work.
1. Click activate hotspot
2. Get prompted to install certificate, asked for cert name
X. Then I get stuck at Enter password for credential storage.
I have no idea what this password might be, it's certainly not any password I've ever used.
I've tried various work-arounds found on teh google but none work so far.
Anyone have any magic to get this working?
Info: Stock rooted NC4, wanam xposed, couple of other modules, some bloat frozen with tibu etc.
Install the x tether module and use the stock hotspot app
Thanks, that works just as well as a workaround.

I am stock, not rooted and it works fine after the latest OTA. It is a bit annoying because sometimes the popup certificate warning comes up, other times it doesn't...but then you have to click the hotspot on within 30 seconds before it works.
I'll be glad to get home and get them to replace this thing. FoxFi is the only thing that works reliably after the OTA.

[Q] Question about Security on Rooted Phones

I love having my phone rooted. I am grateful to all the work by the devs on this board making my S5 run the way it should.
However, I try to keep my phone as secure as possible. I have my S5 set to use Fingerprint identification at login. I also have Google Location set up so I can locate my phone or wipe it remotely if it is lost or stolen.
However, with Safestrap, it is very easy for someone to get past the security. They can boot my phone, see the message for SafeStrap Recovery mode, push recovery and wipe my phone. Then they can then use any gmail account and reconfigure my phone for their own use. Of course, this disables me using Google Locate to find or wipe my sdcard.
Also, since SafeStrap does not support encryption, they can pop out my sdcard and read all of my data in any computer.
Is there a way to secure a rooted phone? Perhaps, SafeStrap could have an optional stealth mode that does not show on boot without a keypress combination? Maybe a third party encryption app that secures the sdcard?
Is there any way around these security issues (besides not rooting the phone)?

Need Help: NPD90G Forced Encryption Disable

I need my work email but it requires I encrypt the phone when I setup gmail. I hate that cause if my phone reboots while I am asleep then it prevents it from booting back up. I used the boot.img that is supposed to disable the check to force encyption but it's not working. I even tried the one from wug noforce_encrypt_angler_npd90g.img. Prior to this I was on another rom and it didn't require I force encrypt my phone when setting up gmail but last time I installed the noforce encryption from wugs tool. This time I am trying from twrp and selecting "boot" as the option. Any idea on how to bypass it besides not using gmail?
I know it's not the answer you are looking for but have your tried inbox by gmail? It works great on my decrypted device. Not to mention IMO it's a superior mail app for my gmail.

Android Pay Not Working Lineage OS 14.1 passes safetynet

Hey Folks!
Hope someone can help me out here. I've read a whole bunch of forums and have tried a number of potential solutions to no avail. I have Magisk 15.2 installed and am running Lineage OS 14.2. Multiple apps confirm I pass Safetynet and I can successfully add a card to Android Pay. However, when I try to pay at a terminal, nothing happens. I have tried multiple terminals with no success. Nfc is enabled and android beam works.
Thanks!!!
Try enabling Core Only Mode in Magisk settings, try disabling systemless BusyBox, or try uninstalling your version of Magisk and trying the latest beta. SafetyNet is a nightmare to keep up with. Every time it updates, Magisk gets broken and we have to wait for a new update. Unfortunately, the only real solution is to stop using SafetyNet-dependent apps or keep a locked bootloader/unrooted phone. Or perhaps have one phone for custom ROM stuff and another one for SafetyNet stuff. :/ This is why I'm so vocal about ROMs passing SafetyNet. Hopefully you'll find a fix.
Hey there. Thanks! My phone already passes safety net, though, so I don't think that's the issue... That's what's so bizarre about it! Would you still recommend taking those steps with Magisk Manager?

You don't get an error message or anything? Sorry, I missed that. Not sure what the issue is, then. I assume by the other apps, you mean legit apps that actually check for SafetyNet, like downloads in Netflix, a game like Fire Emblem Heroes or a banking app like RBS. If you're able to use those apps or use all of the features perfectly, the issue might just be Android Pay, which probably now detects Magisk(?). Anyway, unless you're actually able to use an app that uses SafetyNet, those SafetyNet checkers don't count for much.
Correct. No error messages, Netflix and others work fine, successfully registered a card in Android Pay, it just doesn't do anything at payment terminals.

I am experiencing the same issue but with Omni 7.1 and Magisk 15.2.
Card was added but giving "Card read error" at payment terminal.
If changing the settings or flashing a beta build doesn't get it to work, then I'm not sure what will. If you're able to, backup your existing ROM and factory reset it. If your Pro3 variant has an official LeEco ROM that passes SafetyNet natively, flash that and lock the bootloader and set up Android Pay to see if it works. Can't offer much else to help you, sorry.
Might be nothing to do with your problem, but i noticed when using nfc to add contacts with other nfc phones etc, that this phone has its nfc chip at the bottom/middle of the phone (it was a while ago, hope I've not remembered incorrectly). Until i realised this i had problems getting it to work.
Edit.. my memory is so bad in now thinking it was the very very top of the phone. Try both.
Thanks for your help, everyone. I discovered today that if I initiate the transaction while my screen is locked, it will actually start the process. I can then unlock the screen and re-tap and it will successfully complete about 75% of the time.
Nothing still happens if i tap the terminal with screen unlocked.
Not perfect, but it works for now!

Are you still able to get it to work like this? What was the last update you installed? I am trying to do some research to figure out why this happens on many different devices with different roms and such. Most seem to have the ability to get Pay to work and load cards into it, but using at stores and tapping the terminals does nothing(currently my issue).
So what is you setup as of now? Magisk ver, universal safetynet fix(if you're using that) ver, OS ver/date, and what security patch?
If you can provide those things it would be helpful.
Thank you.
Yes, that is still how it works, though I've found over time that it works more like 25% of the time. The last LOS update I have installed is February 10th. I'm using Magisk 15.3, running Android 7.1.2, and last security patch is 1/05/18.
Thanks!
Any luck with this?. Havent tried lock screen pay yet, but unlocked it doesn't work.

Yes same issue.
Interestingly, upgrading to official LOS 15.1 this week completely resolved the issue. Google Pay works great unlocked, now.
