I am currently running Kangakat 4.3 and am trying to update to 4.4.2. I am using TWRP 2.6.0.3 and have not had any issues with updating the ROM in the past. However this time I keep getting an Install Failed error message. I performed a factory reset and have downloaded the ROM from different sites however it does not matter. It still fails to update.
TWRP states unable to open ZIP file.
I updated to TWRP 2.6.3.0 and still receive unable to open zip file. I have downloaded the zip file from both the primary and mirror sites.
I am rather frustrated at this point and am hoping for some help.

Have you tried to re-download the rom ? It could be a bad zip file and you just need to redo it.

I tried downloading it to the phone multiple times and still encountered the install fail error.
Once I downloaded it to the computer and moved it over to the phone it installed without issue. I am not sure what the problem was but it is working now.

That's been an issue in the past with many devices. Sometimes the rom you download on your phone just won't flash but always best to check the MD5 anyway. Glad it got ironed out.

Hey guys, I am having some issues flashing roms through CWM as well as rerooting.
A bit of backround info
Device: GT-P7510
Started with latest OTA stock rom. I was wanting to use titanium backup to uninstall some bloatware.
Rooted successfully following the wifi only version forum post on how to root.
Did what i wanted, but now i wanted more.
Decided to try to get Jellybean on my device. Loaded into CWM - flashed - successful.
Now i ran into the issue of no flash support - needed for school work i do on my tablet. Tried to follow guide on installing flash.. did not work, tried the titanium backup method as well with no prevail.
Decided to flash back to ICS. I chose the CM9 ROM.
Loaded into CWM - wiped data / cache/ dalvik / Installed rom from SD card - flashed successfully
I noticed that my home button was not working. so after another data wipe etc. and re flash of the rom it did.
I then could not get googleplay to function just kept getting server error no matter what i tried. I tried installing apk from the web. did not work. and tried loading gapps.zip through odin. Installed other google apps that did work, just not google play..
So i was like holy hell. what to do now. Tried installing another ICS ROM ( the one that mimics jellybean)... It fails instantly after unloading package or something of that nature. I tried about 3 different roms and get the same issue.
So i then followed the guide to unroot - it required flashing the stock ROM through CWM . I tried this but got a status 7 error. Not really sure what that was so i found another guide.
The alternative guide had me load the original ROM for the device via odin. Worked great!!! I thought i was in clear sailing. Updated to the OTA ICS ROM. And then went to follow the root guide again. It acted as if it was rooted, but upon reboot option in CWM it says root access might have been lost.. do you want to fix. I tried both no and yes. Reguardless i do not gain root.
I tried flashing other roms through CWM - they all fail instantly ( not with any specific error messages ) just says aborted.
Any idea on what i may be doing wrong?
What version of cwm u using ?
5.5.0.4 works best for our tabs coz he has not got some verification for unsigned zips something like that .
Hmm i think the problem is when u updated ota it took your root away so i would suggest flashing cf-root again via odin
Just guessing though really strange, perhaps back up data on sd card and format it too i know its a pain but could help aswell
;/
Sent from my GT-P7500 using xda app-developers app
I was on 6. something. So that may be my issue.
I did try an older version v4.0.0.4 which was included in the guide i used but that did not seem to work either. I will download that version and see what happens.
As far as flashing cf-root. I am going to do a forum search but the method i used used the file Samsung_galaxy_tab_10.1_root.zip through CWM.
it is always risk to Odin back to stock and update OTA I have bricked 2 android devices by doing this .......once you install custom roms it is always better not to install official update ..... ur device is not rooted properly just go to unrooted stock rom if possible and later get root.zip then try rooting ur tab using it .......and this might help ...... forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1474971..........

HIT THANKS BUTTON IF I HAVE HELPED
can't seem to find the answer to this anywhere, so hopefully someone can help.
I'm running rooted 4.2.1 stock ROM with CMW recovery. Trying to update to 4.2.2 with absolutely no luck. Whether I try to update OTA or from zip, I consistently get a failed install with this error:
assert failed: apply_patch_check ("/system/app/phonesky.apk"
I've tried everything I can think of. Wiping cache/dalvik, factory reset within CMW, overwriting the phonesky.apk with the stock version. Nothing seems to solve the problem. The 4.2.2 zip file I have is the one downloaded from here.
Any advice on where to go next? I'm completely at a loss.
EDIT: I should also note I had previously cracked the Google Play store with the ChelpUS mod
bump?

Have you already tried flashing the 4.2.2 stock rom with fastboot? Also, what's your bootloader version and do you have a device with or without 3g (grouper or tilapia).
The OTA works by *patching* existing files.
That can not possibly succeed under any circumstance if a file it expects to patch has been altered or removed. So, the OTA patch process checks all files it intends to patch first to make sure they are identical to the stock version. If even a single file is out of whack, nothing is changed and the install halts immediately with an error message.
The error message is telling you about the first file encountered with this problem, namely
/system/app/phonesky.apk
So, put the original file back. Get it out of your backups. You do make backups, right? (Note that because of the halt-on-first-fail behavior, there may be more problem files awaiting you.)
Either that, or pretend you are installing a new ROM and proceed accordingly.
OTAs are not meant for upgrading arbitrarily-modified stock ROMs.
thanks guys. I had previously tried replacing the modded app, but it didn't seem to fix anything. Ended up unrooting and restoring to factory 4.2.1, upgrading to 4.2.2 over the air, and re-rooting/restoring apps with TiBu. Thanks for your advice!

Hello, I am having a slight issue with TWRP while trying to install a rom. I have been able to successfully flash a kernel and make a back up using the recovery but when I tried to flash MDOB version 1.6, I received the error- Cant open zip file. I thought maybe I had a bad download so I downloaded version 1.7 and tried again with the same failure of being unable to open the zip. I've seen the error mentioned when i searched for a fix but never found a clear solution. Is there a setting I'm missing or a post i should read that i haven't stumbled upon yet? Thanks for any advice or guidance on how to correct this failure. I have attempted to mount the system as well prior to flash and moving the file to my micro-sd to attempt from there.

What version of TWRP are you running? If it's current, have you tried reinstalling the recovery itself?
I'm getting this error when trying to flash lollipop roms. I can flash Kitkat roms fine as I'm currently running xdabbeb VS982.5 1.0.0 (G3 rom), but it won't let me flash any lollipop rom. I installed twrp via the autorec program which installs 2.7.0.0 then I updated twrp within twrp with the flashable zip.
Please help
Thank you
Anyone?
Seriously no one knows? What is everyone else using that is flashing the latest 5.0.2 roms?
What am I getting this error?
Please help
Possible Fix
I've also had this problem. The only way I can seem to fix it is to also download the .md5 along with the rom itself. Just make sure its in the same folder as the rom. Everytime I have that problem with TWRP this seems to fix it. Let me know if it works for you!
Edit: Also I forgot to mention, if one isn't available to download I can help with that.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it a try. If there is no. Md5 what do I do then?
All you need to do if it comes to that is download an md5 checker on your computer. Just curious, what rom are you trying to flash?
I tried resurrection remix and liquid lollipop roms. I had no issues with the initial 5.0 lollipop roms so I'm not sure what changed with 5.0.2.
So the md5 checker generates the .Md5 then you just put that on the SD card with the rom?
Resurrection remix should have an md5 on the download page right below the rom itself.

Can you point me to the program to use on my computer? Do I just load the .zip file in the program to generate the .md5sum file then put both the zip and the .md5sum file on the sdcard before flashing?
Thanks

Nope, I downloaded the md5 file along with the zip and I'm still getting the same "error executing updater binary in zip".
Any other suggestion? How is no one else having this same issue? I'm using the latest version of TWRP 2.8.3.1 probably like most people. I don't understand.

Try to reflash the TWRP.. or maybe is something wrong with the zip file
Use the TWRP compiled by blastagator
Nope, still getting same error with latest twrp.
Finally got it working. I downgraded TWRP to 2.7.0.0 and the lollipop roms are flashing fine now.
Thanks everyone for your help.

Hi, I am having the same problem. Actually my LG G2 was stuck in boot loop with secure boot error. I used SRK tool to flash the partition files as well as TWRP recovery 2.8.6.1. I have wiped everything and there is no OS installed. I am stuck in TWRP recovery screen [cannot downgrade /upgrade]. I am using and OTG cable to flash the cm-11 custom ROM but it is giving me the same error. Can anyone help ?? It has been 10 days I am trying and my phone is dying please help...
Thanks in advance...

Hi,

Hello everyone,
I am running a D802 on stock Lollipop and installed TWRP 2.8.6.0 via AutoRec. Now I booted into recovery, wiped System and Cache and got the Error message when installing CrDroid (Marshmallow 6.0.1). Now I tried installing TWRP 3.0.2.0, which succeeded and then downloaded the twrp 2.7.0.0 zip to try that as the ROM still wouldnt install. But it wont install the older TWRP. So I am asking for help to either
1) Install TWRP 2.7.0.0
or
2) Delete the getprop lines from updater-script (after I removed them I get an error 6 so i probably removed too much?)
Thank you in advance
(Guide for Error 7: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2522762)
EDIT: Someone said installing another Kernel might allow installation of the ROMs. Which Kernel could work for my phone?
EDIT 2: When flashing TWRP 2.7.0.0 it says "assert failed: run_program("/tmp/loki.sh")==0". So what exactly am I missing on my phone? Is Loki the MM Bootloader?
EDIT 3: Could it be that the build.prop was deleted when I wiped system? Would be weird if that was the cause, but I simply dont know..
Edit: Booted in Downloa Mode and flashed v30D KDZ with the 2014 LG Flashtool. Works with Stock ROM for now
I'm unable to unpate as of right now because I have TWRP recovery installed.
When I try to, it tells me " Package expects fingerprint of *original device fingerprint* this device has TWRP\Team_Win_Recovery_Proejct/ailsa_ii
Updater process ended with ERROR: 8
Error installing zip file '@/cache/recovery/block.map'"
I tried removing the part of the script that checks this, but then I got a different error (I don't remember what it was, it said something about "Boot:1826459185:1U57126581(Random numbers not the actual ones) contains unexpected content" or something like that
So I was wondering, how would I go and update to the new Android 7.0 update? (I also have the zip file of the update locally)
I would assume that I could flash stock recovery but a. I don't have the stock recovery.img, and b. I was reading around and someone mentioned that if I flashed stock recovery it'd delete all my data.
I'd be highly disappointed if the only way I could update to the 7.0 update is by deleting all my data. I'm sure there must be some way around it.
Can anyone help me out? I'm sure I'm not the only one that'll have this issue
EDIT: Flashed Recovery.img (Only recovery.img, via fastboot)
Results: Recovery is flashed and working.
Phone does boot up perfectly fine, no issues
Data is NOT lost.

Flashing stock recovery will not delete your data. Find your stock firmware download on the forum or zte, pull recovery.img from it and flash in twrp.
Of course those who whine about wiping data usually are the ones who need to do it most.
FYI I updated, flashed twrp and then restored data from my b29 backup without issue. At least this way you can make a new backup before attempting.
You can also wait for the flashable .zips to show up and avoid all the hassle.

Read my updated comment; Sorry that I didn't just edit the thread. And that makes sense. I think it would be wise for me to just wait.
First of all, flash rollback zip from DrakenFX.
Then update via OTA. That's all. I've done these steps yesterday and I'm using Nougat now.

I saw your post then had forgotten about it til now ( haven't checked ) but in the last month I've forgotten where the rollback zip is located / what thread. Any help would be appreciated.
Only use ota if you don't want twrp/root anymore.
