So I'm thinking of coming over to the N4 but worry that its not much better than the note I have. I'm mainly looking for more speed and RAM (including fully working butter on vanilla android)
I don't use the s pen so that's no worries, and the screen could be a little smaller (I'm not someone who keeps wanting bigger).
I don't have masses of data, 16gb would probably do.
Is the battery life comparable? I get around 4h on WiFi with the lowest screen brightness, airplane mode with web browsing.
It would be interesting to hear from other people who came from the note.
Thanks in advance

Having had both the Note 1 and Note 2 i can definately say the N4 is waaaaaaaaaay better than the Note 1. I found the Note 1 laggy and battery life was not spectacular, because it only had a dual core cpu and a older gpu off course. The Note 2 is much much better and choosing between both the Note 2 and N4 is hard and is a matter of preference.
But that aside i would gladly swith from the Note 1 to the N4 if it we`re me because of the incredible user xperience in speed, fluidity and customizebility.

Thanks for your opinion. It does lag a bit, especially with CM10 where butter is not fully implemented.
The other main concern I forgot to add was the camera. I don't use the camera a massive amount on the Note 1 but I'd rather not go backwards to the N4. I only ask because the N4 hasn't got great reviews for the camera.
The N4's camera isn't great but it's not awful either. It wouldn't be a huge step back from the Note at all, and the benefits of the N4 are just so much huger that there's no doubting that it's better. As for battery life, it gets me through the day without issues and I expect you can manage around 4 hours of web browsing on the lowest brightness. I get 2 and a half hours of a variety of things on full brightness with WiFi/Mobile data usually on and am left with 20% battery at the end of the day.
OK so camera is probably a sideways, if not slight downgrade but I can deal with that.
The most annoying things about android phones for me is the screen latency, it takes a few m/s to register your finger where as the iphones react to swypes and touches better. Does the n4 come closer to that or is it the same screen latency as the note 1.
I've just score between 7800 and 8400 on antutu. What are you guys getting?

I haven't had latency issues. I get between 18000 and 22000 depending on the ROM/kernel.
Hello.
My understanding that jump from Note 1 to Note 2 was pretty significant in terms of technology, features and overall.
Do you think the same could be said about Note 2 to Note 3?
Yes very much so. Note 2 to note 3 is probably a bigger jump then the note 1 to note 2
Definitely!
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
I say no, the jump from the N1 to N2 was huge, the N2 to N3 is like the S3 to S4. Spec bumps, slightly refreshed look, and new software.
Ergonomics were greatly improved with the N2, Spen was greatly improved, much bigger battery, LTE, etc.

Having had both N1 and N2 I would agree with this statement.
To respond to the post above me the galaxy S 3 to 4 was more of a gimmick upg than anything. The spec bump wasnt that much. The spen is improved again with this and the hardware is greatly improved. Not to mention software is a significant bump from 4.1.2 to 4.3.

I am curious if someone can compare the battery life between the two? The G2 looks really nice, but I am concerned about some of the mixed battery life results. Granted it is still early, but some of the reviews are indicating it isn't too great so far.
I would say the battery life is the same as the note 2. I was on custom ROM's for a while on the note but it seems pretty close.

I was on the note 2 and just picked up a G2 today. I am loving this phone. Screen is really bright and clear. I am going we get custom recovery soon, custom roms on this phone will be good.

I noticed this as well. I'm switching from a Verizon Note 2 running Beans 21 to a Verizon G2 and noticed my battery life is actually better.
I'm loving the G2, best phone to come out this year IMO.
The G2 is quite a bit battery life wise than the Note 2 on the Beans Rom.

Huh? Mixed battery life results? Who says the G2 battery life's not good? Haven't read that yet.
Nice to see a few Note 2 users making the switch to the LG G2; I'm not alone. Maybe I should start a new thread and find out why people are switching. For me I want a smaller more mainstream phone. And my last 2 phones had Amoled displays which indoors was excellent but outside they sucked. Or maybe it's the fact that the Note 2 to Note 3 won't be that much different especially if the Note 2 gets the similar 4.3 treatment. But I think whats pushing me over the edge is the price of $140 (with the Verizon30 coupon). It would be nice to hear what you guys have to say.
I have to say I owned the Note 2, S4, HTC One the Moto X and just yesterday traded the X for the LG G2 I love this phone.. Screen is fantastic, Battery life is incredible, as far as UI it's like touch wiz but no lag. Also we have achieved ROOT.. I'm on verison. All in all this phone is superior to all devises out. Just my opinion. Android Rules!!!!#####

I've also noticed some people killing the batter with only about 3 hours of screen on time, and ~13 hours total.
As always, though, its hard to filter out atypical experiences from the typical. It's good to hear that Note 2 owners are seeing similar (or better) performance. If that's the case, then this thing must be pretty good, IMO.
Note 2 user here on big red. I'm seeing...
1. Less battery life
2. MUCH hotter phone
This across 2 different G2s already. Also, it has a bug where the brightness will dim/brighten randomly on light colored backgrounds. @ 0% brightness, it is extremely annoying.
That said, it is INFINITELY more comfortable to hold in the hand and absolutely hauls ass. The phone is ultra snappy...its odd not dealing with the occasional lag on the Note 2.
Its a tough call. I'm still debating.
I picked up the G2. I have the Note 2 and I was running a custom rom, Beans 21. Battery life is on par with the note 2 it may be slightly better. I really wanted a smaller phone and speck wise this phone was better than the S4.
Now that we have root, I'm sure this is going to be a great phone. I happy with the switch. No complaints.

Same here coming from VZW Note 2 running Beans 21. Battery life on the G2 is just as good.
Hey guyz so I was planning. To buy note 2 this month but then I found. Note 3 neo and it is very impressive although most of the specs may be same as note 2 but leathery back cover. And new hexa core processor. Is future proof. And better then Mali 4412. So what you guyz suggest? Camera is also an important. Factor for.me.
Get N3 then. Price should be even lower than Neo.
Either go for the Note 2 or Note 3.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk
go with the note 3, it's amazing
i dont have much idea about the price in pakistan. But note 2 sells for around 27000 in india. Note 3 neo is around 37000 and note 3 41000.
Since there's a huge difference in price you have to make the decision accordingly.
I just replaced my Note 2 with the LTE version today, its on its 1st charge.. It has one of the best, if not the best, 8MP cameras in any smart phone capable of 1080p video, just dont fall for the 13MP has to be better than 8MP because its higher, moron thinking.. 8MP is better due to the lesser density of pixels . The battery life is brilliant and its not a Pentile display.
From what I can see, 4,3 runs lovely on it, its half the price of the Note 3 and probably all of the bugs will have been ironed out of the OS by now, because you can be sure as eggs are eggs, Samsung never release an amazing phone on day 1, theres always something with it.
Did I also mention they are cheap now
Enjoy
Note 3. If you're going to buy something, might as well get the best you can get.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk
If there isn't a large price difference, I'd go with the Note 3 Neo. The screen is the same, the body is smaller, the hardware is newer (Samsung improves the OLED technology with every generation, especially in power consumption and white balance), the battery should last just as long, if not a bit longer, and the CPU and GPU are more powerful. The only disadvantages I see are the price and the smaller developer community.
Ive been though practically every phone available
but keep Coming back to the Note 2
HTC ONE, S4, Xperia Z, iPhone 5, nexus 5, even tried the note 3. Just haven't managed to get on with any other phone. Even the note 3 was so similar except didn't like the nasty plastic feel to the phone. The note 2 feels so much nicer and the weight is more suited to my use. For some reason the note 2 weight is lower and doesn't topple forward in use. The note 3 I kept dropping. Not that much faster for everyday use I guess if it's gaming your after then it probably is.

I would say go with Note 2 it has better battery life than note 3 and its cheaper, i don't think there is any difference in real life performance between those two phones.
Happy with my Note 2
Go for it, You won't regret anything
Hello, I'm upgrading soon and would like to know if anyone has experiences with both the Note 2 and S4. I know the spec differences and I'm leaning towards the Note. I would just like opinions of people the have used both. Thanks
Edit: sorry, needs to be moved to q&a section.

get the S4, so much better than the Note 2, it's faster, better camera, more pocketable, more pixels, better screen, higher ppi, better software, longer battery life and so on.
The only thing Note 2 has is the stylus.
S4 is definitely a better option while doing a direct comparison. Since the price is almost same for both the phones its a pretty valid question.
The are 2 departments in which note 2 excels:
1. Considerably Huge battery
2. Spen with handwriting recognition and a bunch of other features.
So decide accordingly. If u can live without these 2 features go for S4 without hesitating.

Note 2.... Hands down...
10 Months back i was in the same situation as u... but i opted Note 2 and very much satisfied that i made a right choice.
It's been 10 months now but i still don't feel need to upgrade to Note 3 either. This beast really rocks.
Now I've updated it to 4.3 as well, through OTA
S4 is a phone like all other phones, But Note 2 is "Note 2"
Note 2 FOREVER !It's very good

Used to be a S4 owner but i sold it to buy Note 2 and i don't regret.
S4 over Note 2
- better display quality but not a huge difference , our eyes cannot make such a big difference between their ppi's.
- better camera , here you can see the differences.
- newer software ( but honestly i still prefer android 4.3 instead of 4.4 )
Note 2 over S4
- way much better battery , around 6+ hours of screen on with 1h games + 1h talk + 80% of the day wi-fi on
- better gaming , since the display it's bigger
- nicer design
This is my opinion,i hope it will be helpful for you.
Thanks for the input everyone! I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the Note II. I went with my gut on the Infuse and that was a great phone, now I'm going with my gut again on the Note.

Note 2 = improved usability, you have to spen practically a digital agenda
S4 = A modern smartphone
Now if you can buy, buy a note 3, the newest version of note 2 and much better than the S4

CZ of the 2 gb ram ..it's the the ultimate phone till now...i hope you have grabed one...use for 2-3 months and wait kit kat official update after that unlock the potentials in your device by rooting and putting custom rom
Go with Galaxy S4
Seriously? Please add some context. Both phones are good but they're meant for different people. Well, sort of.
S4 is a more "mainstream" phone. A phone nobody will have problem using. A phone that is "compact" and has all the features necessary and more. It is meant to act as a phone suitable for everybody.
Note 2,different story. Bigger screen, stylus and note taking apps etc. Do the math. Note is basically a phone originally meant to replace paper and pencil. Of course it's much more than that. In fact most of us buy it because it has bigger screen. Also it's kind of less "mainstream" if you ask me. Want to differ from the crowd? Lol just joking.
I got Note not because I have particularly large hands but I still enjoy a big screen and like taking notes etc and act all cool by using the stylus. Joking again, I find the stylus rather useful.
So there you go, pick your side. Note(pun not intented) that S4 Is one generation ahead(year older), but the under-the-hood differences aren't too notable if you ask me. Personally I love big screens. Makes power usage easy and fun. Sure the big screen can be a disadvantage sometimes, can't argue with that.

I would just wait another month and get S5 (almost as big as note 2, much better performance, but no stylus.... )
Almost as big as note 2?
