Why I am planning to NOT root my awesome Note 3 - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 General

I used to root all my devices, my S2, my note 2, but not my note 3, and here's why.
1. I used to hate TouchWiz, but now with all the new features like air gestures, S pen features, smart stay, IR blaster, etc, and the updated more "Realistic" look to it, i will have no need to switch to AOSP, even if it is smoother, i have 3gb RAM anyways (Oh GOD do I LOVE the 3gb of ram!!)
2. Dam KNOX!! Y U DO DIS!! Y U VOID MY WARRANTY!?
3. I own a Rogers note 3, and a mac. No way to root it yet with a rogers note 3 and a mac
4. I will lose features if i switch to AOSP, and if i switch to another TW custom ROM it would most likely have some bugs that the stock one doesn't have.
5. DAT CAMERA.
6. Bricked phone once, softbricked a couple of times, and let me tell you, first time i bricked, i couldn't sleep for 2 whole nights. And always paranoid when rebooting phone that a bootloop would happen or something.
7. No need to overclock or change kernel, i am more than happy with my high-end device right now thank you very much.
8. Worry-free!!! I will never have to worry again!! Sometimes i think to myself why i always root my phone and mess something up, and always have to heimdall back to stock.
9. I own a GALAXY GEAR!! Switching roms may risk making my gear UN-USABLE!! Which SUCKS!! paid 300+ bucks for this thing!!!
10. I am plenty happy with my phone and don't plan to mess it up anytime soon. I love my stock Note 3, and my Galaxy gear too

Agreed...i mean half the stuff he mentions has no bearing on root whatsoever...and to keep
Knox when we don't even have the option to run the encrypted dual boot partition makes no sense. Plus i also have a gear, and its also rooted...i take it he either has never rooted or has no clue what rooting actually does. He mistakes romming with rooting, and makes it seem like rooting is somehow capable of breaking functions like bluetooth???
Not trying to be a jerk, but posting this list is irresponsible and counter to the foundation xda is built upon. Your basically posting this as a justification for not rooting, but why, why not just not root...what's the point of this post at all?
Many noobs or first time rooters will see this and be confused thinking your mistakes and errors that caused the brick, or mixing up root and rom are the norm or cause for concern, and neither are true.
strait up...root does nothing more than "root" level access, or basically full access to your device aallow in you the OPTION to remove apps or customize your device. It in no way breaks bluetooth, or affects your launcher (touchwiz) as is being alluded to.
Mega

This phone is pretty damn powerful even with a ton of bloatwares running in the background. I can see that this might be the reason why some don't feel the need to root and modify their note 3. But if you say avoiding root because you want to keep your phone perfectly functional, then I don't understand the reasoning here. Root doesn't render the phone useless, it is what you do after you root it that bricks or damages it. You can root this phone and keep all the S functions you want, add more stuffs to it and the phone will still be perfectly functioning, but of course it is a personal thing.
I personally rooted this phone, modified a lot of things before I even put the new sim card in and activated it. This phone is pretty powerful by stock, but I like to mess with it, and I usually read up a lot of posts before I do anything crazy, and I always have odin next to me when I do it. So far nothing is damaged and the phone is running xnote with all the S functions running smoothly.

You will change your mind

If for nothing else then just to remove all the bloat. After I removed all the bloat my ram usage has been around 1gb out 2.xx gb. And my battery life has been GREAT. I get 7 hours+ with about 24+ standby.
Here is my script http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2587899 (if you change your mind

I've been doing this since finding rsd lite was like warez and you had to do hex edits, and rooted day one. I think my phone is more functional and has enough customization to make it as individual as I am. It's your choice to root or not, but I agree with the post above you might give the newer members the wrong idea.

Not sure what value this thread has now that it has been said...nor what it has towards development.

Went back to unrooted.

I originally rooted to install google wallet. but I had so many problems with actually installing it that I just gave up and unrooted my phone. I tried out a few roms but until they get to 4.2 android (jelly beans/jedi) I think I'm going to take a breather from ROM bugs.
Right in time to stop me from rooting,I was hesitant all along after bricking my Note One by constantly playing with Custom Roms and Kernels, thats over six months ago,but looks like It has started itching me to repeat the process once again with my Note II, although,so far, I havent felt the need tbviously will pass on it for the time beeing.
And the point of this... Maybe I'll tell everyone I've turned the s note pop-up when removing the s-pen off. You know because I don't use it.

Will never go back to unrooted..its just feels like stuck in a cage..and well replied the above user!..If you know what you are doing..rooting opens up unlimited possibilities!
Not sure how anyone has issues rooting with the fantastic tools available....I suggest you go download Samsung_Galaxy_Note2_ToolKit and use that. Seriously it doesn't get easier than that. I bought my Note 2 and within the first few hours I was rooted, just for the sake of being rooted.
If you choose custom roms with respected developers, you can rely on them. If thousands use the rom, possible bugs will be posted on its forum, and the rom will be updated. There are often bugs in official roms but you have to wait months for the fix there! Custom roms open a new world for you.
If you choose the right ROM, you won't have any problems. And several of them don't have any problems. If you want to be sure that it's as stable as possible, choose a Samsung based ROM and stock kernel. But more complex ROMs are mostly completely stable. I am on ESA NOTE with the abyss kernel and I don't have any problems at all. But I have tried others like Omega and ARHD with the same results.
It was more or less having problems getting google wallet to work. I do know a lot about rooting I've been doing it since the moto droid. I just could not get wallet to work consistently. And the rom bugs alot of times developers know about them but they take away a few things I like or the usefulness is gone because there is a slight issue due to porting. To say that there is a rom out there that doesn't have at least one major issue after its made would be to bury your head in the sand. I've tried a lot of the major more popular rooms and granted some features were really cool other things made me get rid of it.

Root is not only to play with rom. I'm on stock rom, and rooted it in order to use Titanium Backup, AdWay and Android Firewall. The note II is my first Android phone for wich i dont feel the need to use a custom rom.
I always root, even if If I say on the stock ROM. Never had any issues.
If your device became unstable its down to the app or ROM you are trying to use not the fact that you have the ability to grant select apps root access
Rooting your device means allowing the administrative access to your device, not to install some damn ROMs. I'll always be on Stock ROM and will always be rooted.
OP's statement is moot.

I use root for certain apps not for custom roms. Always stock for me

The only reason why I unrooted my phone and stopped using custom roms is that I hate losing my apps data (for example, games progress) every time I try or upgrade to a new custom rom. Titanium backup is nice but it doesn't work perfectly like how iphone backup works....
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Rooting does not equate installing custom roms. I'm running stock 4.1.1 and rooted. The advantages are endless, freezing and backing up apps, using network apps such as dsploit, assigning endless amount of specific led colors for certain notifications/apps; the list is endless.
I've taken a break from custom roms since Sammy did an amazing job with stock, but I'll always be rooted. There's just too much to lose without root.
- ad blocking
- directory bind
- titanium backup
- freezing system apps
- spen gesture control app
- mobile Odin
- file managers with root access
Take away any one of those root-enabled feature and I would be really sad.

Is rooting the S5 recommended this early on?

Samsung is a new device. Running 4.4.2 KikKat and having the best mobile processor in the market meaning that most (if not all) of you will exploit this bad boy in many different ways. The most popular way is obviously gonna be rooting.
Now, im fairly new to rooting. (Having only rooted my v2.1 Galaxy S Vibrant) Meaning I have no idea (or experience for that matter) in rooting new phones.
Most of you know that Sammy implanted new Knox security, and rooting an S5 early on will void it's warranty.
My question is: Is it recommended to root an S5? Aside from the cancelation of the warranty will the phone suffer any other consequences? And lastly, are there any actual mods that will make rooting an S5 beneficial? Or are all the mods just aesthetical?
Difficult question to answer imho. I'm no leet phone user or maybe not the best person to ask, but I rooted because of droidwall, xposed network and xprivacy (basically because I want a access to iptables and decide which items can use which data, etc. I also like to customise and freeze unwanted stuff in titanium backup. But if the positive side supersedes the negative side I don't know. Must be up to you to decide. If you are into to protect your own privacy policy root is must. Cheers
Sent from my SM-G900F using xda app-developers app
Im also not leet phone user or anything but to answer your question about if there is any useful mods...
well firstly if you're rooted you can remove all of the bloatware... this will typically extends your phone battery by 15 - 40% depending on how you use it... but for sure its 15% better (samsung is known for putting a lot of bloatware and some of them runs in the background and you cant turn them off -> the only way is to freeze or delete them)... secondly is that if you have some specific things you want on your phone, rooting and flashing mods/roms will help you achieve them, for example: I like to have my "sound+vibration/vibration" options on the notification but stockrom has "sound/vibration/mute", and so far that I've noticed the "sound" option doesn't force vibration so if you just restarted the phone and put on the "sound" option it won't vibrate until you go to settings and set it to do so... so without rooting I won't ever be able to mod the notification toggles to do what I want.... there will also be mods that makes your phone more responsive (faster)... the lists of things you can do with root is just too much to be listed lol...
now to answer your main question "Is rooting the S5 recommended this early on?", now this is all my opinion so take it with a bit of salt... I would say no...
there isn't much of roms around (not much of choices atm, you can check like s2/s3/s4 to get an idea of how much of choices you can expect once the device has been out for 6 months+), so if you root right now, you pretty much have to do all of the modding by yourself and etc... so why root and lose warranty? just play it cool and wait for a better time XD the decision that you wait 1 - 6 months before root might saves your phone ass, if something happens... and I seriously doubt you gona gain that much if you root now... unless you're uber modder/rom cooker
Don't get me wrong though, I personally recommend every android user to root lol... Android without root is like iPhone... what is the point of the ability to pretty much modify everything but you dont use it? (dont get mad now iphone fans... Im on android just coz of the customization, not of brand or specs)

Questions regarding the Note 4

Hello XDA!
I'm about to purchase a note 4 tomorrow from Wind mobile here in Canada. I would have preferred the nexus 6 but its just not available with wind as of yet.
So my questions regarding the note 4 are:
1) The Note 4 variant would be SM-N910W8, will it allow rooting?
2) Does Samsung allow unlocking the bootloader to install custom roms or is just a root sufficient to do that.
3) I've heard of something called knox, and how it will trigger once you root the note 4. Will this have any adverse effects on app functionality such as tap2pay etc..? I know the warranty will be void, but if something goes wrong with the device its a 50/50 chance of getting it repaired replaced.
4) My reason of preference for the N6 was stock android, is there a ROM currently that is AOSP based?
5) Is there a specific thread i can go to find roms for my variant?
5) Is there a way to return back to a virgin note 4 (unrooted, stock ROM)? And even when that is done, will knox still reflect the trigger as 0x1?
6) Lastly, i havent been much of a fan of samsung because i felt they were pushing out "cheap phones" And i must admit, ever since they came with the metal band with their alpha and note 4. Ive taken a great liking to them. So my question (I do only expect general replies) , How are you guys/girls liking your note 4 so far?
Thanks in advanced!
(P.S sorry if some of the questions are stupid, i researched and dug around as much as i can but couldnt find definitive answers)
Rooting restriction is carrier based. Some carriers lock down from rooting, others dont.
Knox is a one way trip. Once tripped it stays that way. It is effectively a fuse.
Had my N4 for two weeks and am loving it. Came from a rooted S4. Not really missing root that much. Wish I could still turn GPS on and off with Tasker and wish I had better access to the SD card. Not big deals though. There is another thread here about non-rooted solutions to many things people want root for.
Might become more an issue in a couple years if Samsung/Verizon fails to do timely updates.
Best advice to new N4 users is learn to use the S Pen. It is what makes the N4 stand out.

1. No it doesnt allow rooting. get a 910U - so far it seems the least hassle.
2. no rooting.
3. yes once you try to root your warranty is void. for all purposes assume you will never get root. then again, you dont need root. in fact having no root and knox is much better. you can have a dual personality phone which works very well.
4. irrelevant. if you get the note 4 expect to run factory.
5. no. you cant have root.
6. you need a full case to hold it. its a thin glass panel. ive got an iblason armorbox for it. also would recommend buying the wireless back and wireless chargers. cables are too much of a hassle on this phone.
My recommendation would be little biased towards Samsung given my last four phones were all galaxy. I never had to root Note 3 but I rooted Note 4 in few days of owning it. Google must have thought let's give some punch to Samsung by disabling write access to external SD giving excuse of security as Samsung is the only high end phone manufacturer that still has it. And one of the most used function that was very important to me was copying files off network share to SD which no longer worked. Only for this I rooted.
I buy Note series not for amoled or big screen or good battery life or running AOSPs. I buy for SPen. I snap, print screen, doodle and write catchy text and share, adds that special touch. And that Microsoft One Note supported inking in android, I am loving it even more.
Note 4
Thanks for the input guys, much appreciated!
While it seems most of you use the note 4 for its main purpose of being a multitasking phone. I on the other end just need the good camera, screen and battery. Everything else is gimmicks (for me atleast). However, this opinion of mine could be due to the fact that ive never owned a note before.
I did see some guides of being able to root the SM-N910W8 with CF auto root, as well as a way of bringing devices back to stock as i can see form this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/general/ref-stock-firmware-kernel-modem-recovery-t2920452
Now, is that really the case or is there somehting im not seeing?
you can NEVER bring it back to stock. the efuse blows once you root. Do NOT root a note 4 until youre familiar enough with knox to make the choice
By stock i dont mean resetting the knox fuse. I mean, if I am on a cusotm rom, i can bring it back to stock for warranty purposes (which I know after the knox fuse is blown, is a hit and miss)
So my question still stands, will I be able to root my phone based on the thread i mentioned above and be able to return it to stock afterwards, or is there something im not seeing there.

I have a Note 4 with Bell so to answer your questions:
1) Yes. This is true for all Canadian carriers AFAIK.
2,4) Should be sufficient with just a root. I haven't been around for a week so I haven't caught up on new developments yet. I didn't see much in the way of AOSP last I looked.
3) This I can't answer but I know for example there is an XPosed module that will allow applications like GOOD to continue to work even with KNOX tripped/removed.
5) The W8 is similar to the 910T. I'm actually running DynamicKat with the KTNote4 Kernel. When you install DK part of the install script checks if your phone is a 910T or a 910W8 and installs the correct kernel. I had an issue with my initial flash of it bootlooping but I used the Stockish kernel from twistedumbrella that I had flashed when I still running stock rooted and backed up the boot image so I restored that boot image and it booted, then I flashed KTNote4 myself. Check here http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-tmobile/development and here http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-tmobile/orig-development for roms/kernels.
6) Yes you can just flash a stock rom (should be floating around somewhere) but Knox will still be tripped.
7) Overall I'm absolutely loving it. I came from an S3 that I was running CM11 on with KT's kernel (seriously, his kernels are amazing!) and I liked it for a really long time but it started to get really sluggish and it just can't handle multitasking the way I'd like it. I do still notice slow downs, and the phone does still get pretty hot sometimes, but that's the price you pay for multi-tasking. KTs kernel certainly isn't perfected (granted I'm on a build from 2 weeks ago) and sometimes it will randomly reboot and bootloop at the splash screen but once I clear cache it boots right up. Usually only does this once it's been pretty hot for a while. I love the multitasking windows, that's exactly what I want. The one thing that threw me off the most was the DPI. It's a big phone, I don't need everything on it to be gigantic. So I did end up using the XPosed module App Settings to scale the DPI down to 480 from 640. There are a couple quirks when doing that, like the task switcher is smaller (since it was designed for 640 DPI) and there are a couple apps that you have to set back to 640 as well like the camera but you can always fix those as you find them.
I'm a firm believer that Android is a dev's playground. I could not use this phone happily without root. In fact, I rooted it the same night I got it within a couple hours. I bought the phone outright since I would have had to change my plan if I wanted to early upgrade and my plan is too good to do that. Happy modding!
Just use Autoinput. Can trigger GPS.

Bootloader Unlocking Advantages?

I have never unlocked a device bootloader before so I am trying to get a little more knowledgeable on the topic. For this device, other than allowing it to be rooted, what advantages are there to unlocking the bootloader? Does it make the device harder to brick? Obviously it allows the installation of custom ROMS. For those that want to keep it stock, but want to root, is there any advantages to them having an unlocked bootloader? Thanks in advance for any advice.
For myself, its a no brainer. I use the xposed framework for minor tweaks and mods on the stock build. And just as well, I use titanium backup to remove unwanted system apps that come pre installed, and roll back app updates that I don't see fit. Per ex. If an app updates and has ads or removes features, I usually roll it back. Normally I flash a custom ROM and kernel, but this phone performs so well stock, it only needed minor tweaking in my opinion. Just my .02, but I like to be in control of a device I spend my hard earned money on.
If certain basic options were included in stock, I wouldn't even root, as I really don't need it. Its the simple customization and tweaks that make it all worthwhile.

In my opinion, an unlocked bootloader is awesome. For the fact that in the off chance that something gets corrupted, you can go into fastboot and flash whatever to try and fix it.
And rooting, as well. Because of all the advantages rooting offers.

I totally agree with all of that. Before my Moto X arrived I was running a Galaxy S4 rooted with Hyperdrive ROM. I refused to take the Lollipop update because it would kill root and it was not again attainable, except for King Root. King Root is out of China and I'm not even gonna go there as to why I wouldn't use that. The S4 I had didn't have a bootloader that was unlockable so it was Safestrap Recovery with a root exploit that had me gaining control. It's ridiculous to me that we don't have control of our devices anyway. Verizon is terrible, that's why I bought this phone as it is unlockable and rootable on Lollipop, and it's carrier unlocked. So if Verizon ticks me off too much I can jump ship.
Another thing, if Moto voids your warranty due to bootloader unlock, are most folks going with Square Trade for protection purposes? I know Moto says they will still honor your claim if it's a hardware issue not related to software, but should I trust them?
You can always return the device to stock prior to sending it in. Did that with my nexus 6 for the battery issue. Just play it right, you can always say you were going to but never followed through with it. The bootloader screen tells all. Moto isn't Samsung with the flash counter.
Sent from my SM-P600 using XDA Premium HD app
On my previous devices (mostly nexus's) it's a no-brainer, it allows me to use custom ROMs. But on the MXPE, I like the stock ROM and moto features. But I still unlocked in order to get rid of ads, that alone is worth it for me.
The way I see it, a phone is a pocket sized computer. Do you want to be a user or an admin? As a user, you can only do what the manufacturer has loaded on the phone and what they allow you to update. As an admin, you can install Windows 10 or roll it back to Windows 7 if you want. Want to try Linux? Go install it. The sky is the limit if you're the admin. That's sorta how it is to have an unlocked bootloader on a phone. If you're not comfortable changing anything with your phone or restoring it if something goes wrong, leave the bootloader locked.

Were you able to unlock bootloader without going thru Motorola's process to get the unlock key? If not, they've recorded your serial number as unlocked.
All of the above are excellent points, so I won't rehash them, but the first thing that drives me to unlock and root with every phone and tablet I get, is Ads. Nothing bugs me more than popup ads. Unlock- Root -Adaway!
Also, there is a real sick visceral thrill to doing something stupid, bricking your phone and then suppressing panic to find a fix. When that unit boots back up ready to go - it's not better than sex, but it's pretty good.

I applaud Moto for allowing this. Had a Sammy Note 3 and had to jump through so many hoops just to get a rom on the thing, sideloading bs and all that and then can't go over a certain update or root is lost, etc. Glad I bought this MXPE and about two days after purchase, rooted and unlocked the BL. Felt great to be back in control. Now whatever comes down the pike I can put on, take off without a hesitation. Great phone....

And you can flash forward as well. There's some info and files in the General section for a fully working MM rom. I'm holding off until someone accomplishes a modified kernel, which will allow it to be rooted.
But yea, I was a die hard Sammy guy up until the S5. It got harder and harder to root and I finally bought a Dev Edition Verizon S5. I wasn't going to fork out $6-800 on a Dev Note 4. And with the S6/N5 and up they took away removable batteries (not a deal breaker) and sd cards, which was the final stray. No removable battery, no sd card, no unlocked bootloader (for Verizon at least) = no Sammy!

Yup, I was a Samsung guy too, until the changes you mentioned. I stuck with my S4 and even that would've lost root if I updated to Lollipop. So I kept rolling with KitKat until I bought the Moto X Pure. Now I'm back to Moto and hoping the next iteration of this device comes with an AMOLED display.

I couldn't be loyal that long lol. I've had almost every phone Verizon offers. The only ones I've been able to use for longer than a month or so are the S5, M8, G3, M9, G4, and now the MXP. I like the Nexus line but I have a 128 gb sd card so even 64gb of internal isn't nearly enough for me to use comfortably.

Root solution???

Just wondering why there is no rooting solution, or custom roms for this device yet? I have the unlocked S10+, and don't see much news or progress on a rooting solution. Is there a good source for news of this somewhere else? There are several things I'd like to do, but being able to put custom fonts on it would be a big help. I don't understand why Samsung is so against us putting whatever font we want on these devices.
Thanks for any help.

Next time don't buy a smartphone before root released...
It is a big question if root for s10 will be ever possible, because samsung made some changes to security
Root already happened but there's no "user friendly" method yet, and not many benefits currently.
Keep in mind that Root is losing importance, it peaked around 2014 but the various hostility from banking apps or paying solutions contributed in reducing root users, some employers also don't allow you to have a rooted devices because of the vulnerabiities it comes with.
Magisk Hide was great but hit or miss on different devices.
@topjohnwu rooted his own S10+, you can try to contact him for testing if you like, he's doing an awesome job.
XDA is quite trippy today, my post got submitted twice please delete.
thread should be moved. this is not a release.
and again people asking for root should ask themselves if they bought the wrong phone:
a north American model.
will probably never be rootable(the U, U1 and W are all the same and have a locked bootloader)
the rest of the world's s10's will be rootable. its 100% sure. just need someone to get recovery to be flashable.

ask a mod to move your post/thread.
also read up on what's the difference between the north american modela and the international ones.
then realise the folly of your question/purchase.

This is one reason why exynos and snapdragon should be separated. No one gives enough info when posting ANYTHING about what version of S10 they have when they are inquiring about whatever they are inquiring about. It makes all the difference in the world. They are essentially two DIFFERENT phones. Why lump them together. The only thing they really share is a name. The internals are different phones. Nothing firmware wise interchanges. Since the mods wont separate the phones in the forums, everyone should mention what S10 they are asking questions about if you want the correct answer.
I have been here for the past 8 years my old acct somehow got hacked..and all the phones I have had were possible to be rooted, including s7, s8, s9, note 4, etc..For someone to say never hasn't been on here enough although Exynos is way easier to root than snapdragons but is it possible? of course, can it happen? in a couple months. In today's society you don't really need to root your phone as companies are making their phones fully customizable

I second this, before root was such a necessity to me, in my OP5t I was using it mostly for Titanium backup, on my S10+ I think it is not needed, it is much cleaner to be setting up your device from scratch preventing corrupted app settings to mess with the phone.

I believe root is extremely important if you are a heavy ROM user and like to install several ROM for testing then I would suggest you to have to have root to make nandroid backups and have Titanium Backup, otherwise really not needed you expose yourself to vulnerabilities.
Root and XDA = Development! Rock on ???
Root is not just for mods. On my Pixel 3Xl, I tweak my kernel with FK manager to get better battery, more efficient memory usage and better CPU rendering. It's also nice to use apps like 3minit battery mod, system-wide Adaway, Titanium Backup and many others. While Samsung has improved on ways to Mod parts of it's phones, these mods are not available systemwide in 3rd party apps. For me, root is essential.

Eudeferrer took the words right off my keyboard. His points are exactly why I have always rooted. And besides all of the vital things Eudeferrer mentioned above, for you guys who think we don't need to root anymore, please explain to me how to put the 1600 fonts file, I normally use, on my new S10+. Because it was as simple as can be on my rooted S7 edge. But can't find a way to put these fonts on my S10+. And I absolutely hate the few fonts that Samsung ALLOWS us to use. Seems really stupid, that we pay over a $1000 for a device, and they limit what we can put on them... Also, I'm tired of having ads pop up on my phone, not in my browser, but right on my phone!!!!! This NEVER happens to rooted devices. Which the underlying MOST important reason to root is TOTAL CONTROL OF OUR DEVICES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It all comes down to preferences. Only reason why our phones doesn't come out of the box rooted is because it’s an inherent security risk..I have never had any issues with the battery not lasting long enough, low on memory, cpu overheating and there goes the saying..don't fix what isn't broken..As for backups? In today's phone standards backup is stored in apple's icloud or google's server, no need to use a 3rd party app. As for ads and custom status bar? you don't need to have your phone rooted for these. There are plenty of modded apps floating around that disables the ads. Don't get me wrong, I used to be a flashaholic back in the days when I had the htc hd, nexus 4, using NRGZ28's energy roms, there was just a point that I really didn't need to do all that. It is time consuming. Rooting android just isn't worth it anymore. Back in the day rooting android was almost a must in order to get advanced functionality out of your phone but times have changed. One thing I can say is that a lot of things has changed throughout the years and a lot of people lost interest in rooting their phones and have left this website. Look at the pixel 2, 3 xl forums and now compare them to the nexus 4 and 5 forums. You will see the difference..
I beg to disagree with you. This is the same excuse I often see people giving when they are stuck on a device that can't be rooted. They become complacent. The bottom line is, YOU pay for your phone. It should be YOUR choice to root or not. It's YOUR device not theirs. Take the inherent risk if you want to, or not. Everyone who roots understand this risk and takes it willingly. We are not in a communist country to have someone (Samsung or Phone company) tell you how your phone has to look or what you can do with it (as long as it's legal and not hurting others). It's this brain-washing nonsense that never makes sense to me. Android backups on Google cloud DO NOT save data for most apps. For someone like me with over 200 apps installed, this is a pain every time you get a new phone. It's either sit there for hours and log in individually to every app or run Titanium Backup and in 15 minutes you are done. Don't but hit me over the head, but to me the choice is obvious and more than clear. Perhaps if Android ever evolves to there point where you can control these things on your end, then root will truly be unnecessary.

I've been running rooted Android phones since the HTC HD2, even ran custom ROMs on the T-Mobile Dash before Android existed. The S10e is by far the closest thing to a non-rooted phone I could live with. I would agree that the urgency for root is less than it used to be, but is still very much needed for many of us. I gave the SD855 version a chance, but after a week as my daily driver, I'm returning it & reverting back to my rooted S7. Once the new Exynos models get stable TWRP/root/etc., I'll pick up the G970F, but despite the improvements over three years, I still prefer my rooted S7 to a stock S10e.

Agreed! Another valuable reason for having the option to root is "freedom" - e.g. you don't have to rely on the phone/OS provider to store all your private data on their backup repository (however incomplete the data they store might be) and hold you ransom because they have what you need, and could have stored locally on your own device. I still haven't been able to fully restore my apps since changing from a Pixel 2XL to a S10+.

What ads? there's no completely random ads like on Xiaomi's "YOUR PHONE IS VIRUS PLS SCAN" if you see any sort of advertising in Samsung apps it's because you agreed to it, go back and opt out of marketing information.

Man, sorry to be a ****, but you are just confused. I've been rooting phones for a very long time, and I have NEVER suffered any security problems. Rooting is NOT an inherent security risk. That is some crap that the manufacturers made up, and the sheep follow their instructions and believe everything they say. And while you must be some ridiculous aberration, MOST people have had terrible problems with battery life, lagging and the such. That's why they rooted! To be able to control the processor, gpu and memory. And why would you depend on the backup of Google or CRapple??? They are ALWAYS crap, and never give you back your setup. AND THERE ARE NOT PLENTY OF NON-ROOT APPS WHICH DISABLE ADS. There are plenty of "BROWSER" apps which help with ads. But what about the ads popping up on the phone itself??? NONE!!! And I see you completely ignored my question about FONTS!!! How the hell do I pay over a $1,000.00 dollars for a device, and THEY DICTATE TO ME WHAT FONT I CAN USE????? We own the phones, not them. So Rooting IS still worth it, and a much better situation than having a non-rooted phone. NO non-rooted app allows you to customize your device, or gives you the control over your device the way rooting it does. Being able to put any one of 1600 fonts on my device, USING TITANIUM BACKUP TO EXECUTE AN EXACT BACKUP OF MY SYSTEM, changing the color of ANYTHING I care to, getting rid of ANY app I don't want on the phone, being able to tweak the hardware to MY satisfaction and having system wide Adaway that works flawlessly are just a few of the reasons to root your device. And if you can't see this, than just get used to saying, "bahhhh bahhhh". Because you've joined the flock of the GIANT CORPORATION!!!
