We need an aosp based kernel, and since we can't flash one it won't work.

That's interesting. First I've heard of it. What other devices has this been done on? I would think it would just be cm10 with the jb kernel then if it's even possible.

Look to Motorola defy forum. That's where this whole 2nd init idea came to life. Locked bootloader and cm7 ran just fine on a stock moto froyo kernel. It even became official. Cm9 10. Shoot I think they are even moving on to cm as we speak

Ahhh, they were still running the CM aosp kernel but were loading it through a kernel module. That was already discussed here in another thread. Modules are disabled in the ATT N3 kernel and it is signed. It won't work but nothing was ever won by not trying.

A few days ago I was curious when you mentioned this so I researched it a little. Yes, you are right it does boot up with the stock kernel but my understanding is then the 2nd boot loads the cm kernel through a module. This allows it to work with the cm rom that is flashed. I traced the original 2nd boot back to the milestone. It was actually adapted to the defy here. If you look at the 2ndboot.sh it uses insmod ./2ndboot.ko emu_uart=0. 2ndboot.ko is the module that loads the kern file which is the custom kernel. I checked the defy CM11 thread and they are still using 2ndboot.
That thread you mention is talking about using Quarx's CM builds which have the CM kernel in them on top of the motorola kernels using 2ndboot. I didn't find any cases where they were actually using a motorola kernel to work with for instance the /system partition of a CM rom or AOSP based rom.
It's confusing because there were also 3 or so different versions of the defy and they had different little quirks for them.

Right second boot came along after while but initially cm7 was fixed up to run on the moto kernel. Those 2nd boot threads are from 2012. Look farther back. The phone booted cm7 right here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033654
April 2011. It was hard to believe even then

The only problem with it is that this needs a specific module in the kernel. The problem is that our kernel has modules completely disabled.

We are researching kexec in the development forum. I've read that someone figured out how to load modules on the AT&T kernel (disabling selinux I think). I'm on the N900T unlocked variant but even normal non-module kexec is broken at the moment so once we figure out what's blocking it it should be adaptable to the module-based approach which means booting kernels on locked devices may become a possibility.

Thanks for the response

Cool - looks like it's much easier to navigate than the "traditional" recoveries.
Everything works as far as I can tell. Just did a backup and restore, both work fine. Definitely sticking with this!

Yes - it charges, but the screen is still sort of "on." No Battery icon.
If Team Win could add this feature, this would probably be the best recovery out there.

It's working well for me.
With the exception of how it charges while powered down (screen stays on), it is very nice.
I like the queuing up of zip files because I typically update the ROM, then the kernal, then a fix to the Aria GPS.

It is amazing. I however would not recommend it, because if you get a one x on 2.20 you won't be able to unlock your boot loader or root. If you get 1.85 or below, you are good.
Be sure to check out the general section over there, some good advancements to root and s-off have been made recently. So 2.20 *may* get rooted soon
If you can live without root, then definitely get the phone. It's amazing.

If phone ends up with an issue and you need to send it in to oppo for repair, and phone has been OC'ed and the issue can be related to kernel, oppo's warrenty is over. If no oc you should be just fine just don't oc a kernel by default.

Aye. I also love this ROM because it just has the features from nearly every other ROM.

Battery life is quite good without battery saver on.
Things that aren't working are screen recording and sound packs.

I updated it yesterday. But since I am not really a developer (I only run a few terminal commands to compile Hashcodes Kernel and the AOSB ROM) I can not do anything ti fix this issues. My Java/C knowledge is not enough. But maybe time will fix it. We will see...
The update wouldn't install for me. It failed to open zip

Should I redownload ?

Could I just flash over cm11 and wipe dalvik cache and cache?
Sent from my Amazon Tate using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I suggest not to. This ROM has a lot of customizability and a lot of settings that are changed from cm 11
So I have to? Dang. Well OK. Let me flash it.

You are not infected, but affected. It is a big difference. Get a rom that is maintained, as opposed to abandoned....

Hmm..I'm using dstrikerz1 but sp001(the newest version is sp002, but I prefer that) update is planned..changing rom will help? I never met that virus, so I don't know what to do right now.

I don't think you fully understand: the only way to patch the vulnerabilities is to change the code and re-build the rom. No stock rom can be build from sources by anyone, except OEM, because stock roms are closed source, i.e., code is not available. They can only be moded: delete an app, change wallpaper etc... . So, no matter how many more releases of moded stock roms can appear, none of them will include any security patches after the last official release, which was about the end of last year....

I didn't understand because I told you that this is my first time with this. Ehh so I must accept this... Thank for reply.
The problem here is that most of these vulnerabilities (with the exception of the first, which is in the kernel) are inside proprietary files from qualcomm. So binaries which we don't have access to the source code to. Chances of this ever being fixed on our phones are pretty slim to none. The only chance might be the release of patched binaries for MM AOSP, which could then be used in custom (non-stock) ROMs.
Also we all just needs to "Keep calm and carry on".
We are also all "affected" to be run down by a car in the street, but we some how don't get run down every day.
How: we don't walk out on the street in front of a car. We carefully look both sides first.
Just as we don't download and install unknown apps from unknown sources
This is A gpu error, only you need is to check new apks, and be sure that are safe, before installing.
Nothing bad.

Not true. They are all open source. In fact most Qualcomm's fixes are open source. Just because Google is lazy to reference sources and instead chooses to publish binaries, doesn't mean they are not open source. You just have to get them from Code Aurora directly.
Here they are:
CVE-2016-2059: https://source.codeaurora.org/quic/la/kernel/msm-3.18/commit/?id=9e8bdd63f7011dff5523ea435433834b3702398d
CVE-2016-2503 and 4: https://www.codeaurora.org/use-after-free-due-race-conditions-kgsl-module-cve-2016-2504-cve-2016-2503
CVE-2016-5340: https://www.codeaurora.org/invalid-path-check-ashmem-memory-file-cve-2016-5340
Yes, I was mis-informed by an article I read yesterday.
I found those patches last night and made a new build. Funnily though, CVE-2016-5340 is still shown as unfixed in the program, but other people are having that problem as well it seems. So for now I'm blaming the App
This is why i suspect if this app haves a png inside , for when we open, display "device affected" by a fake scanner

The app and the whole Checkpoint's blog are nothing more than a deceitful commercial pitch for business customers. I don't think there is even a way to know whether vulnerabilities are fixed on a live device. It is all crap...

Could you post the app please. We can expose Checkpoint if the app is fake....
You find this as Quadroot Scanner in goglebley store or 9apps store
If you read the checkpoint site, they explicitly are promoting goglebley store with this invalid argument :
"OnLy dOwnLoAD aPps fRoM goGleBlEy sToRe"
Lamentable!

Just to be 100% sure: if I use a stock ROM (as we know there will be no updates...) the only way to protect myself is to:
stop using it and use some custom ROM
use some apk scanner (e.g. AVG), do not install from unknown sources, do not install suspicious apps (and "that's all")
So no way to e.g. somehow patch my ROM.
As a second question, I know that I can be hit by a car at any time but am I safe on a stock ROM? It is fast and works fine for me. Btw I would need some OS where I can download my company mails and things like that which need a "very secure environment"... and also a very stable one, as I know current Marshmallow ROMs for Z1 are unstable.
You don't need follow google craps, you may stay installing unknown source apks, by scanning after...
