[Q] Help flashing ROMs - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so I'm first going to attempt to list the process I've gone thru to describe the problem I'm having:
1. Received phone and took OTA(12B) when I got it
2. Rooted with IORoot15
3. Pushed TWRP via add... Thought I did it wrong so I reflashed it using Freegee
4. Couldn't flash any ROMs (status 7 error) so I thought I was soft bricked
5. figured out that I could flash a stock ROM so did that
6. thought problem would be solved by using CWM instead of TWRP
7. still can't flash any ROMs other than stock...
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
Oh and tried to use the Status 7 fix by removing the "assert" lines but then I just kept getting Status 6 errors.

Can you post a link to the latest twrp recovery for tmo? ive been looking but couldn't find one.

I have the vzw g2 and i took the 12b update and rooted it finally today. i have the same issue and your saying i need the newer cwm? extract the .lok and flash? Can you please help me and give me step by step instructions because im stuck in the bad cwm and only have cm 10.2 on my sdcard. ive tried going back to stock but none of those methods are working for me even though i have all drivers and follow everything. i tried the method where i use the kdz files and also the tot files. kdz fails at 49% with no explanation and the tot method never starts after the instructions say unplug then replug back in. Im completely baffled, i havent messed around in awhile.

Nope, the one i was using i believe was the 10. Also, when it boots it was secure boot unsuccessful. Im seeing a handful of people stuck with this with no solution thread.

have you tried to use twrp instead of clockwork, I think that's what cwm stands for make sure whatever you do you double check that method does not harm your device.

It didnt work... Fckkkkk. So to make it clearer
VZW
Lg G2
Rooted with io
Rom when rooted was stock latest ota
currently stuck in CWM with nothing to boot into because of consistent abortion then status 7.

can you sideload aboot.img from adb

Id need step by step instructions on how to sideload something because ive never messed with adb. It seems if i adb a different recovery or a specific file it may start to work. Can i sideload TWRP?

let me consult my know it all friend lol

[Q] Android 4.4 OTA fails on Status 7 system bin debuggerd

I am currently running Nexus 7 (2012) Wifi Android 4.3 Build JWR66Y rooted with CWM and stick mount but when I try to update Android 4.4 OTA it fails on status 7 system bin debuggered. As I was able to just run the Android 4.3 OTA when I upgraded from Android 4.2.2 without any problems this Android 4.4 update is certainly very frustrating. Since I am still a newbie at this could you please provide a step by step of how to get this to work using NRT? Do you have to unroot before installing the update and then reinstall all your apps after? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
KodachromeBob
I'm in the same boat. Trying not to have to start from scratch so I really prefer to run the update instead of flashing the entire device. Vague recollection was that debuggerd gets replaced by stickmount but I tried reverting to the backup file that I had and it still gave me the same (Status 7) error.
I think we just have to find the correct version of debuggerd and overwrite it, then sideload. Let me know if you make any progress.
If I remember correctly you have to be completely stock. If you changed anything the update will not work.

It's only aborting on that one file as far as I can tell. Would love to get an original copy and just overwrite the one that's on my Nexus 7 to try if it would work.
Is there a way to get back to stock but not lose all the installed apps and data? I don't mind not using the update file, I just do not want to go through the hassle of setting everything back up (reloading apps, wifi, etc.) again.

No, I just recall having to change the debuggerd file to get stickmount to work. I don't remember the details exactly (it was a long time ago) but I'm pretty sure that is all it was.

No worries. I just found another post (sucks that search is down) that says that if we just flash the boot, system, and bootload img files from KK that it should update without deleting programs or data... I think I'll give that a try.
---------- Post added at 02:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:10 PM ----------
Apparently I flashed in the incorrect order and just flashed boot and system. Nexus 7 appears to have booted up and my apps/data are still present. About screen shows
Android: 4.4
Kernel version: 3.1.10-gee1a0b2
Build: KRT16S
Do I still need to flash bootloader?

The method of flashing boot, bootloader, and system img seems to have worked. Might want to give that a shot if no one uploads the proper debuggerd file. Best of luck!

Did you use NRT to accomplish this and would you mind providing the step by step procedure and files that made this successful for you? Being new at this I just don't want to screw it up.

Yes, just download the 4.4 image from google here:
https://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/nakasi-krt16s-factory-da7dee49.tgz
Unzip it until you can pull out the 3 image files I mentioned above. Then use NRT to Flash the files one at a time. You should be good to go. (fingers crossed)
Yesterday my nexus downloaded the update and asked me to press 'ok' to shut down tablet and install.
Just like after every system update the following happend:
Nexus turns off
... thats it, it simply turns off and nothing happens! Device is 2 weeks old now and i am thinking of returning it.
I'm on 4.3 and system tells me that there is no update available...
Nexus 7 2013 sucks!

Yes, you have to unzip the .tgz file, then unzip the .tar file to get the folder with the image files. 7zip works great. If you are on the stock rom/kernel rooted with a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP) you can fastboot flash on both the system.img and boot.img. Those are the only ones you need. It doesn't look for file verifications in system, it just puts the latest system image there. Flash the latest supersu in custom recovery and you get back root.
Successfully Updated to KRT16S
Could not have done it without the help of Wayno-san. I flashed Boot, Boot Loader and System images with NRT and voila a successful update to KRT16S. I had to ROOT again and reinstall Busy Box but that was not a problem. Thanks again Wayno--san for all your support.

You're welcome Sir!
Can anyone send me the JWR66Y debuggerd?
I'm also stuck trying to update to 4.4 and I'm hoping to avoid reflashing back to the stock /system. I've reverted all of the system files I touched so it's only debuggerd that's holding up the update. Thanks!
--

I also had to update manually because of Status 7 update in CWM during OTA flash. Slight inconvenience yes, but nothing major as I didn't flash "Data" via Fastboot command. Had all my apps retained in the next boot
Missing ART though. I don't really want to flash a custom ROM for it.
Anyone willing to send me the KRT16S debuggerd?
If no one has the JWR66Y version, I can just edit the install script to not check (and not patch) debuggerd, then load the KRT16S debuggerd after the update completes. Thanks!

Could someone please help unbrick my Sprint LG G2 with TMOBILE ROM?

YoungGunner posted this thread at one point and I have a question about it... heres his thread:
This will make your device think it is a d801 but that is what we want to have USA DOMESTIC GSM
all features seem to be working, though i have not tested 100% of everything.
Working
confirmed:
talk,text,web(HPSA+ 4G),mms working
BUGS:
NFC -
Rest Unknown
any other issues let me know.
I am not responsible for the damages you or I and my related files might cause to your device.
YOU MUST BE ROOTED;
WIPE, DATA, WIPE CACHE, INSTALL ROM, INSTALL GAPPS, REBOOT.
ENJOY!
This is my question based on his thread:
Could you please help me? Someone I bought this phone from had done this.. and I didnt know it was a custom rom so I flashed the Tmobile stock recovery KDZ thinking i could unroot and get my OTA updates. Turns out it was a sprint phone, and so the tmobile stock rom is unstable, rebooting all the time and so i cant even root now. I cant flash the TOT file from sprint because the phone now thinks its a D801 (due to the CRC check)... could you help or explain to me how I can get sprint stock rom back on this phone ? I don't know how its possible when it keeps resetting, and wont allow me to install Sprint TOT because LGFLASHTOOL says "wrong model" .. is there a way to make this phone think its a LS980 again intead of D801 in the settings... and please keep in mind it reboots every minute or minute and a half on me so if your method involves a bunch of work that i cant pull off quickly im a little it screwed... i figured there might be a way to edit the model number.. please help if you can, i just bought the phone and if its bricked i just lost a lot of money... thanks in advance

I'm going to assume he knows how since he is taking about files that's can only be flashed through the lg tool.
And that's all I would be able to recommend to you to fix it would be follow the back to stock method for our device.. Maybe abd a recovery to the phone that's all I would think to do.
Are you on sprint If so do you have insurance you can go to a sprint service center. They can advanced exchange it for you but don't tall about rooting it or flashing a tmobile firmware on it or they won't do that. Or have a buddy with sprint & insurance activate your device they can do the exchange on it is free that way.

Download Stock Sprint rom in .zip and copy on your card if U are available
Try install TWRP recovery I was used OptimusRs Recovery flasher
If U are sucsess flash the stock rom via TWRP recovery
Let me know if I helped U :good:
Correct, you need to flash a ls980 Rom to make our device show up again as a ls980, I'm working on a flashable zip that will make it easier switching back and forth. If you need extra assistance feel free to contact me via PM and I can probably.help you out.

I'm in the same position as OP, but I have managed to flash CWM but, I still can't get it back to being ls980...
if you can get into recovery, just simply adb push or adb sideload your ls980 rom. that should allow you to use download mode as a ls980 after it returns to a ls980 build.prop

this is a stock tomible rom that will work on our ls980 - this was made by justinswidebody.
flash this (just like a normal rom) reboot your phone
place your new rom on the device, flash that (just like a normal rom)
and that should return your device state back to a ls980, or you can boot into the rom change your build.prop and then use download mode.
either way should help fix your issue.

I'm trying again today, so I got TWRP on it this time, and I sidenloaded "sprint T-mobile rom" and it flashed successful and it shows 2.2gb as space taken up the rom. But, when I reboot I get:
fastboot
udc_start()
so now what?
edit: so now I'm getting this:
[780] fast boot mode start
[830] udc_start()
[990] -reset-
[1000] -port charge-
[1090] fastboot: processing commands
Also it says:
E: Unable to find partition size for '/sb12'
E: Unable to find partition size for '/sb13'
seems it's has gotten worse than before...i think doing cache clearing after flashing the rom wasn't a good thing...
so, another update in download mode, at the bottom in red it says B96 and rooted...so what does this mean?

After flash, you ve got tmobile rom. But always crash every 30 seconds.
Root via adb, and flash twrp recovery. You have done quickly coz random boot.
After success root and flash twrp, you download stock rooted rom sprint ekstension zip.
Flash via twrp, and you back to fasboot mode, bootloop. But your g2 was sprint again.
Download rom back to stock, fill dll and tot file, flash via lg flash tool. Awesome, you be back to new handheld.

[Q] Unusual bootloop won't quit

So, I was running stock kitkat on a refurbished Nexus 7. After some months it just suddenly restarted and entered a bootloop. I can turn the device off and enter fastboot mode, but the recovery just seems to be broken. I've tried using the Nexus root kit utility, and "successfully" flashed 5.0.2. It said I should wait even more than 10 minutes, and that the device would seem to be on a boot loop (again), I let it do its magic all night but nothing happened. I unlocked the device and flashed 4.4.4 and I'm having the same problem, after "succesfully" flashing, the device enters the bootloop. Any ideas are much appreciated Thanks!

I tried it, but when I need to flash /system, it gave me this first:
FAILED <remote: bogus Chunk size for Chunk type Raw>
On later attempts, it gave me this one:
FAILED <remote: bogus Chunk size for Chunk type Raw>
I'm still on a bootloop, recovery gives me a bootloop as well :/

Don't really know, I downloaded it more than 6 months ago... I think I'll re-download it and give it a try, if it doesn't, I'll try the recovery you told me. Sorry for the late reply, I don't get much free time nowadays :/ And thanks for all your support, if this gets me to a fully operable Nexus 7, I'll definitely make sure to get you a coffee! Cheers!
---[EDIT]---
I tried twrp recovery, it installs successfully but it keeps getting in a bootloop :/ I'll re-download ADB, hopefully this will help 'cause I'm running out of solutions
So..
Any progress now

I'm using NRT, so I assume the rom it downloads is an official .img rom, isn't it? Should I download it from somewhere else?

Got stuck trying to root, just want to return to stock/factory settings.

I'm new so please forgive me and my ignorance through all of this. I had a great root experience with my old LG G3, so when I got my Axon 7 (A2017U) I thought I'd try to root it too. I tried to follow DrakenFX's guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/wip-axon-7-root-bootloader-unlokced-t3441204) but I bit off more than I could chew. I got to the point where I had TWRP up, but this is where I think things started to fall apart. I was confused by the instructions and in a haste I continued anyway. In TWRP I went to Wipe>Format Data typed in yes like TWRP said and boom, I had no idea what happened. Rebooting only got a screen that said "Type in your password" but my passcode I had on the phone before it bricked didn't work. So by now I start panicking a bit. I thought I made a mistake earlier so I went back and tried to reinstall TWRP by putting the phone into EDL. The phone got stuck that way for a while, but I now I have it in TWRP. Right now, I just want to get back to safe stock android.
I'm 200% sure I messed with something I wasn't supposed to and I believe that is the system image(?)which Draken also linked (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68248798&postcount=53). I'm downloading it as I type. I'm going to do my best to leave my phone just like it is right now, in TWRP, and wait for more advice on this before I do anything else.. What I'm curious about is where did I go wrong and what do I need to do to get my phone working again, preferably without returning it? Thank you for any advice you have to offer.
Update: It's worth noting I didn't know to enable OEM Unlocking when I was in stock android. Dumb move I know. I'm new here.

I tried, but the downloads take extremely long and are unreliable for me. I was downloading the stock system file at around 14 kbps and it eventually failed. Any other suggestions?

I've done the wipes multiple times. It's mostly the downloads I'm having trouble with. How and where do you get them? The links I found were dead or had a slow speed.

Did you save the recovery backup? If you did then use the axon7root.exe to flash the stock recovery. Then download the stock B20 from ZTE.

I've been able to find some recovery images that I found on other threads. The thing is, when I try to flash them on TWRP, I get an error about "/dev/block/sde14" being read-only.

no no no no ..................... put phone in EDL mode. Copy the stock image into the folder with the axon7root.exe file you used to flash TWRP. Make sure the stock file is named recovery.img (or whatever the TWRP file is named in that folder, it has been a long time since I did this). Then use the axon7root.exe program the exact same way you did before. It will flash the stock recovery. Then in stock recovery you can flash the B20 from ZTE

Yes, I'm in the process of getting the update from sdcard feature working.
Update: Trying to use the update.zip file or unpacking it into the sdcard hasn't worked. Trying to use adb sideload returns "Cannot read 'update.zip'"

ok - download it from zte. Put it on your SD card. In recovery select update from SD card. Be warned it will work but it is slow. Also note that while I will not say the bootloader unlock doesn't work on B29, I can say it worked flawlessly on B20. If you want unlocked I recommend doing so on B20.

I tried that. It won't accept the zip file and it's unclear which file to sideload. Would you happen to know? This is what files are in the unpacked zip. https://gyazo.com/c7546c3ed0dcb0972653eaeba42fcb40

Maybe - I'd have to download it to find out. If you can't get stock recovery to take it this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69434328&postcount=17 gives you instructions on what lines to remove from the updater-script to make it flash in TWRP (I didn't have a problem making the stock B20 go in stock recovery, but I was unlocked at the time). You could reflash TWRP and try that.
Or just try this in TWRP http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68873482&postcount=2

I'm going to try the first option. The second option's link take horrendously long to download.
Update: Trying to flash from TWRP results in error "Could not find 'META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary' which makes no sense since update binary is exactly where it should be.
Further Update: It seems that the problem might have been that when I compressed "update.zip" to fix "updater-script" it changed to file path by adding the title of the folder "update" to the beginning. I think that messed with the path giving the the meta-inf error.

You need to flash the kdz file using LGUP and then you will be able to take OTA update. Then you can install TWRP and root.n And you don't need to lock the bootloader to go through this process.
Is Nougat easily to root? I'm rooted on mm now but nervous about making the update. Is xposed working?

If twrp is working then try and flash supersu, no harm in trying anything if you got a backup, right? (read somewhere that root and xposed were working tho)

LGUP does not detect my device :crying:[stylo 2 plus LG-K550 if wondering]. i have tried this over at this thread,

ARE YOU HAVING TROUBLE WITH LGUP NOT SEEING YOUR MOBILE?
Try this....... take the back off your mobile so you can get at the battery. Connect your mobile via USB. Start LGUP, if it does not see your phone DO NOT DISCONECT, DO NOT RESTART OR TURN OFF LGUP. Take out the battery and then put it back in.......let the phone restart on its own. LGUP should now see it.

seems it has detected my device after flashing superSu (root) to my device again, but it gives me an error "LGUP can't load the model[C\program files(x86)\LG Electronics\LGUP\model\com"
noticed that it didn't end with a bracket "]" so the information it gave me is probably incomplete (or a typo in the LGUP development:laugh but i am still stuck
No longer stuck lol, and have nougat 7.0 rooted! See my signature to see how to update and get root access!
