[Q] hardware or software issue? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello everyone
i received my snapdragon note 3 yesterday, was playing with it till i found something, its hard to explain but i will do my best.
what i noticed is that when i move something blue (like the small bars between each alphabet in contacts) to a black space (where pixels are shut off), the blue bar turns purple for like quarter of a second and then goes back to its original color.
it is really bothering me, i waited like a month to get the snapdragon version from outside my country and now this is happening.
could it be software issue? as i remember that note 1 has a display issue where black color appear grayish in homescreen, if so, what are the best stock roms that support RDLV root with out tripping knox ? last thing to note is that it is really hard for me to return it to where it came from.
any help appreciated.
edit: it apear that it is happening with the gray color or any other one that tend to be grayish at very low brightness

This is something you'll either have to get used to and learn to live with, or sell the device. It's a HARDWARE issue, not software, and it can never be "fixed" in any way. The short explanation:
What you are seeing is the latency inherent to the design of the AMOLED pixel matrix. It takes some time for the pixels to go from black (off) to any other color (on) and what you perceive as a blur or "small bars" before it does so is this latency, and when you are driving so many pixels on a full-HD display, the latency is even more apparent.
Samsung has attempted to mask this design limitation by essentially taking true black (off) away from the user, but it only works for Samsung apps and the parts of the OS that are tied to the Touchwiz UI.

update:
it appears that this problem is called smearing/ghosting, the reason it happen is that samsung made pixels combletly turn off when it is black in addition to cutting any power going to the screen.
why Samsung did this? well, to fix something called mura effect (black amoled screen can be seen as green or brown in very dark room), this caused a delay in turning on the pixels again which caused this effect (especially with gray color).
the solution is to use an app called screen adjuster (found for free in play store) and using the following setting:
red +14
green +14
blue +14
brightness 100
contrast 0
hope this help anyone who encounter this problem
cheers

as i said in the post above, i managed to solve it but adjusting screen colors (a Little bit that it does not affect the overall colors and in the same time keep black pixels on)
by the way, are all note 3 owners facing this issue like what happened to most s4 users or just me?

Just so you know that all you've done to "solve" the problem is shift the colors up to remove black. It's not worth the loss of a true black (off) pixel state, IMO, but to each his own. All Note 3/S4 owners have this issue. Some don't notice it until it's pointed out to them, but it's a hardware/design issue common to every single unit without exception.

Call button images burned into the the screen?

Hi
not sure if anyone else has noticed this but it seems that the call end button, the button to view the dial pad and the button to view speaker options are burned into my screen!!! viewing in most apps it is not noticable but if you open internet explorer and go to a new page without loading a website the images of the buttons and very visiable in a brownish color I have had my focus since it was released in the US, I have also checked my wifes focus and it also has this burned into her screen.. Has anyone else noticed this?
Yes, I have the call tile, message tile, and the little circle/arrow burned into my screen. As you said, it's only visible on light colored screens, but it is visible. Unfortunately, unlike the temporary burn-in on new plasma tvs, this burn-in will not go away.
If you want to see something really bad, go up to the at&t store and check out the Focus that's on display. The Focus at my local at&t store looks horrible. I can't imagine anyone wanting to buy that phone if they saw that display model...
edit: by the way I love your weather app, I have had a few problems with it over the time i've used it, and you have always been fantastic with your support. Thanks!
Are you using blue tiles? I heard Blue OLEDs burn out faster than other colors and changed my tiles to green.
I have been using the brown almost exclusively; occasionally I'll go with blue, green, or lime, but the brown just looks the best to me.

thanks for the comment. on to your screen you have the actuall tiles burned into your screen? wow i only have the call end and function buttons burned i think its related to having my display on bright i took it off the automatic.
It's actually not the tile, it's the icon inside the tile that is burned in, but it's only visible on white screens. It's still quite annoying. As soon as the hd7s is out I'm going to compare screens, if the slcd is close to the samoled then i'm jumping ship I think...
and yeah my screen is on bright (not automatic) also. I think my problem is that I have the time out set to 5 minutes, and I never locked it myself

Based on HTC's latest track record with the Desire HD and Inspire 4G, make sure you analyze the viewing angle of the HD7-S. HTC has said it will have a Super LCD but, according to an answer they gave to a customer complaining it wasn't true S-LCD tech, the display will likely be what HTC is calling "Super" LCD...meaning it is their name for the super-sized display...and having nothing to do with true S-LCD tech.
If the viewing angle isn't as good as the iPhone 4 or Focus...or other SAMOLED/AMOLED equipped devices...then it isn't the higher-tech display but just an ordinary non-TFT LCD.
Super AMOLED is a great screen. But the pixel life span is still way short. The Blue pixels are the shortest. The old stats are 2000 to 4000 hours. New information point it around 10000 to 14000 hours. But Samsung didn't release any spec on this.
You should always keep the screen dim and keep it on as short as possible. Reportedly use a red theme will not only preserve blue pixels but also prolong battery life.
No burn in here. I have the phone set to turn off screen within 30 seconds, and have always used Lime colour tiles since it matches the Xbox Live tile.
Just a follow up on this issue, and possible a "what not to do" post. The burn in on my screen is getting worse. On a white screen, I can now see the phone icon, message icon, small circle/arrow, the word calender, and my google mail icon. I have the screen set to time out after 30 seconds, and I have the brightness set to high (not auto).

[REQ]SmearFix

Can anyone make an ultimate fix for galaxy s4 smearing?
Are you talking about the graphical smearing/tearing that happens when you, for example, scroll?
This is caused by the pixels. In AMOLED devices, when a pixel shows black, it is actually turned off. However, there is a delay when turning that pixel back on. So if pixels have to change from black to colored and vice versa (for example, scrolling through your app drawer if it has a black background), this graphical glitch occurs because of the delay from turning the pixels off and on.
Samsung has rectified this issue on their stock ROMs by eliminating true black, making the pixels always on. This will also negate the battery saving effects of AMOLED displays when showing black. This is the only way I know to fix the problem.
If you were referring to another "smearing" please elaborate and we may be able to help better.
I'm talking about that one that you said.. but in 3rd part apps in 4.3 stock android roms there isn't any fix ,apart Screen adjuster setting contrast -10, i wanted to know if someone can change blacks in very dark grey keeping the other colors , not changing all the colors setting contrast -10 or SmearFix app

Display Color Bleed - any possible fix?

Hey guys,
hopefully the right forum to ask this kind of question.
Got my Note 4 last week to replace my old Nexus 5. Frist impressions are quite good and the Note is just the phone I want to keep.
After a few days I noticed something when the keyboard is openend. On the left side of the display (see the attached picture) there is a light (and really really light) screen bleed into red. If the Display shows straight white I can't see it clearly. But every time the color is greyish oder dark blue (the keyboard styles of the AOSP Keyboard are perfect for this) you can see the color drift.
So sometimes I barely notice it, and somethimes I am going crazy
Bin since "What has been seen, can never be unseen" it starts to bug me more every time I notice it..
I dont think that I can replace the phone (like amazon would - damn me, I should have buyed it there), I need some kind of fix (eye replacement?).
Is there any chance of adjusting the display settings only partially on the display? (I really don't think so - but desperate times need desperate questions )
The other thing would be: I tried using the App Display Adjuster an changed the white into a very cold one (mainly by increasing green und blue) - does anyone know what kind of battery drainage this app causes?
Thanks from munich!
Bastian
Edit: I tried to photograph the bleed, but it's that small that most monitors (just 3 out of 5 - all of which have a "warmer" display white point show it perfectly.) won't show my bleed (which leads to the conclusion: I AM crazy).

Odd blue cloud on screen

I have I've got a weird blue cloud that is always there but most noticed on darker colors. It looks like this

Sent from my ONE A2005 using Tapatalk
The pic is not mine just what it looks like there is only one and is tiny
I have exactly the same thing but in much smaller size and can you see it just on dark screen(I can see it when the phone is turning on with the black screen or when there a dark background

I'm sure it's not a software problem because it does this on every Roms, on recovery mode, on fastboot mode on. ,normal boot mode but doesn't appear when the screen is off and it have the same color that the one plus touch button (back and background button ) and the dead pixel fix with the images color that usually fix dead pixels doesn't work even if sure at 90% it's not pixels
This is a classic LCD display failure, technically called backlight bleeding or clouding, caused by uneven background light source or uneven distance between the light source and the diffuser reflection background layer of the screen. I've seen this a lot on cheaper Chinese phones like on my old Elephone P8000.
Sadly there's not much you can do, that to contact support and hope they will swap the LCD under warranty.
My friend had this issue too ( green cloud ), he contacted Oneplus and they swapped the screen under warranty so ^^

Still facing red tint issue

DEAR ALL
still facing red tint issue even after fix update what to do?
please guide me.
There's no other solution if you've moved the red-tint slider down to minimal and you still have too much red tint. Either you exchange it or try to live with it. Cmiiw
You're one of few, like me, and have to live with it yes.
My adaptive is reasonable, bit strange with such an expensive device to call it that. But my amoled modes are as pink as they were on day 1.
I don't find any other news about any more fixes either. So samsung probably thinks everybody is enjoying their fantastic looking s8 and + versions.
Ps. You could bring it to samsung repair and let them recalibrate or repair your screen.
did you try???
Sent from my Samsung SM-G950F using XDA Labs
yes bro tried everything but still there
The red is so annoying I agree, when I bought my S8 earlier this month the display was fine up until last week when it suddenly started turning red after sunset and the red lasts until sunrise!! I have tried all the possible adjustments with no result in all display modes and modifications. The red is so annoying to live with. At night when I change the phone time to am, it goes back to the regular display and all is well until sunset. I tried it in different timezones, it also adapts the black timing to the local sunset time! I haven't read/heard/seen anyone face this problem., am I the only one?
That thing is what you call night mode or Blue light filter you can turn it off
Mine looks pretty good on adaptive, but on other modes it's a bit reddish. I really wish Samsung released the sliders on the other modes too.

Hey thanks but I forgot to mention that:
- the red screen comes up even if the blue light filter is switched off
- the red screen shows up in all displays (Adaptive -even if the red is reduced to a minimum in the Advanced options , AMOLED cinema, AMOLED photo and basic modes)
- the red from the red screen is different from the nightmode's yellow-ish colour.
I am not sure if the warranty covers it. but I will speak to Samsung customer service and see if anyone has faced this before
after adjusting the RGBs and the display edge adjuster, the top of my display still appears slightly red..as though there is a reddish band at the top.. anyone?
