[Q] Date and time settings? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I have had an LG G2 for a couple of months now. Recently I have started to notice that whenever the battery dies completely, or if I power the phone off for a long period of time (a few hours), it loses it's time and date settings.
This might be a known problem, but I haven't been able to find any other threads about it.
Have you guys had the same problem? Is my phone defective and you think I should return it? I would love to hear your opinions because I'm sick of having to constantly set the date and time Thanks.

Set it back to network? Weird it isn't sticking without... Never really messed with it to find out.

I live in an obscure part of the world, so network settings don't work for me

Hi i had this wiard bug and i got almost fired as the alarm did not rang!
I have solved it with 1970 bug thread. There is a flashable fix there. Just flash it and you are good to go.

My phone keeps randomly shutting off. Ideas?

Earlier, my G2 shut off on me about 5 times. -_-
First, I had it sitting in the car ,tried to take a pic but the stupid voice recognition menu kept coming up so I gave up and set it down in the console. When I got home, the phone felt warm and was.. off.
Then, I turned it on.. stuffed it in my pocket. A moment later, I pulled it out and YET AGAIN when I pushed the button I was greeted by a quick vibe and the HTC screen -_-
Then a few minutes later I ran a speed test (checking HSPA+ out in Vegas).. put it down on the table.. come back.. PHONE IS *(@#% DEAD AGAIN.
I HATE YOU! *glares at phone*
It's killing me because it either happens several times in a row, or doesn't happen for days! I've tried replacing the sim card, replacing the SD card.. moving the battery... no dice.
Maybe it's my SIM card? Would that cause it? My last phone did that -_- And I'm silly to have not yet changed the SIM lol
Good thing I have a spare sitting in my bag.
What battery are you using? Aftermarket? Is so, did you remove the sticker around the battery? If you did then make sure you place a piece of tape on the battery to avoid making contact with the metal sd card holder. The metal on metal causes it to shut down.

Interesting. I've also been having random shutdowns (not reboots, which I've seen mentioned elsewhere, due to a hardware fault) --
HTC Desire Z, using default battery, but I'll try isolating it anyway with a slip of paper or something.
OP you on a custom rom with overclock? maybe your clocking your phone too high or low?
Also if the phone for whatever reason gets too hot or cold it will turn itself off.
Please see this forum: Phone powers down and won't turn back on w/o pulling the battery
I strongly believe that this may be an issue with the GPS and/or Google Maps. Once I have the GPS off, this has not occurred. Can anyone else try this?
I have the Bell Desire Z NAM with stock HTC Sense 2.2 ROM.
It seems to be quite prevalent, see the bottom of this review: T-Mobile G2 is speedy sequel to original Android
I think you may be onto something with that GPS note, but my phone doesnt' need the battery pulled to restart.
Also, it's running the stock firmware, stock battery (just exchanged battery and got a new SIM card yesterday, and it shut off again today.. so those aren't the problem)... so any issues I'm having are 100% stock related...
This time it shut off after using Maps so....
i read somewhere (trying to find the source) that some G2's were experiencing random restarts / shutdowns due to low signal strength. Not sure how valid this is but you might want to look into this as well.

This was true before we received the first OTA update. Since then though the problem has been fixed.
I think it was definitely the GPS, that said I just got done with a really long phone call about this and have a replacement on the way.. but that was way too much effort AND I have to pay shipping (it's not much, but seriously.) I'm not happy that T-Mobile was THAT big a pain in the butt about getting the phone replaced with a new one in the 30 day return period.
Going by the pointers one of my close friends on sprint (that used to be on AT&T) gave me, I'd say this could've been worse with another provider.. but it shouldn't have been. The reception isn't the best so the customer service should make up for that, and it sorta does.. but it sorta doesn't.
Oh well.
I have been experiencing almost the same thing for the past week or so. I have tried a few things such as lowering clock speeds, changing roms, and not using maps or GPS. Nothing has stopped the shutdowns. I cant seem to find a pattern in the things the phone is doing when it shuts off because it rarely does it when i have the screen on, also it never does it if music is playing or if i am watching a video. I will say that it seems to happen alot when i am in spots i know are dead spots for phone signal. I flash roms a fair amount so it is hard to say this has started after flashing a rom, but I will say it never did this before I flashed my first sensui 3.0 rom.
I am thinking its one of two things, something with the radio and/or its firmware or something with the sdcard because at least one senseui 3.0 rom said something about sdcard formatting.
I hope all this helps the smart people come up with idea on what wrong with our phones.

My Desire Z had the same problem and I returned it to HTC Service for repair. They said they change some cables? and a new battery. It has been nearly 3 days and I haven't experienced a single shutdown but there was one time it restarted by itself.
Yeah my only problem with that is, I am close to my upgrade date. How much did it cost. I may still do it so I can give this phone to my kid brother.

Possible cause/fix found
I posted this in another thread here regarding the same problem but it appears it may have been overlooked so I'll post the info again in hopes of helping you and others having this problem.
A possible cause/fix has been found as posted on the T-mobile forums:
http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/T-Mobile-G2/G2-Turning-off-by-itself/td-p/513575/page/4
There is a conductive metal strip along the back of the battery that looks like it may be shorting out. Check out the link for detailed fix with pics. I take no credit for this, just posting it since I'm experiencing this problem too.
Talked to tmobile CS today and was trying to get a replacement because my phone would randomly reboot and shut off. All he told me was go and pick up a new sim card. If that didn't help then they would be willing to give me a warranty replacement.

Clicking your link all I got was an empty T-Mobile page with the message "Page not found" and some some java script error message when closing the window.
Is this possible fix something else than lining the back of the battery with a strip of paper?

Cool, thanks!

I'm pretty sure mine is not caused by the metal strip since my battery's all proofed. I didn't have anything wrong with it until about half a month ago, and it always happened after using GPS and left it on. If I turn it off after navigation or any other app that requires GPS the phone won't go into SOD.
I switched back to CM7 RC2 around that time and starting to get the GPS no fix problem, and it could't be fixed by the dd=/dev/.... script. So I switched into Nightly 88 or something that at least I was able to get a fix but the not-so-random freezing started.
This morning I flashed the new 7.1.0 RC1 and the phone would just turn itself off (it used to just freeze and become hot), and I got really tired of it... My old G1 was much more reliable than this.
I tried the dd=/dev script again, so far after 5 min the phone is still on with GPS on....
@carcuote
Thank you! I haven't had this issue for months now. But the solution is so easy to do that I will try our anyways.
I had this issue the first month our so when I got the new phone, but went away permanently after the second month. Maybe the contacts in the battery got a little rusted? Don't know but the solution is simple enough to try...

Small Alarm issue

Hi guys, I've never had an android phone before but I'm loving it. Small issue though, my alarm clock doesn't work if I switch the phone off. I've got a rooted debranded o2 sgs 2. Factory reset was next on my list of things to try but was wondering if it was a known issue or something.. Thanks in advance.
No fix since off is really off. Put your phone in flightmode instead and keep it on.

Yeah was just about to mark this as closed, looks like my old n97 was useful for something haha

Did you freeze anything via Titanium Backup? That would be a reason why.

[Q] Time Issues

Hi guys and girls,
Been using WP7 about a week now and one niggling little issue is doing my head in. Sorry if it has been mentioned before or is covered under some other issue, I did try a search and got nothing relating to it.
My issue; the clock on the phone keeps jumping to random times.
I am using YukiXDA latest build and could find nothing relating to this isue there either.
Would like to know if others have had this problem and what have they tried to remedy it?
Is it a ROM issue or is it a hardware issue?
Okay, An update
This is happening when I reboot the device.
Is there something in settings that I am missing, or is there a registry setting I can change?
do you have your "date & time" settings set automatically?
Yes

Yes time setting is automatic, even tried setting it in the registry.
It got that bad yesterday my phone reset itself to Jan 1980.
It sounds like the battery *may* be ****ed up, I have no idea about the htc hd2 (I've only had mine for a couple of months), but on my old phone(s), some of them have had that "time resetting" too, and the people at the tech support said the battery needed to be replaced.
Sorry for hijacking your thread:
I have a similar error with my phone (yukixda v4):
If I send myself a text message at say... 01:35... it's sent 01:35, but the one i recieve has the timestamp at 01:34... this is both with and without automatic time settings..
any ideas?

Truth is no matter what is causing this... TWO big issues for me when choosing a phone software set up.
The phone knows what freakin time and date itis
The phone nor the software on should destroy batteries
but thanks guys it really was fun to play with.
Don't use automatic, mine does the same if I set to automatic.
I thought it was something with Giffgaff as I would set automatic and the time would be right but later on during the day it would be some crazy time and date.
Set to manual and your clock will be fine
dunno about any of that but, i do know that if i boot in to MAGLDR is gets buggered up, doesnt matter if the time is manually set or auto set, it always buggers up, dont boot to it and all is good
, at least for me anyway
I'm having the same issues. Time and sometimes dates getting screwed up. Only started happening to me about a couple of weeks ago now. But it's frustrating at the least. I've switched mine to manual setting at the moment. Gonna see how it goes over the next week.
One thing though, it isn't happening to my wife's HD2. She is using the older version of WP7, I'm currently on Yuki's more recent NODO version...
as per my post above yours if you use magldr or even the bootloader it gets messed up, so dual booting droid may be a reason, or using bootloader / magldr to charge, other than that i dont have this issue
Not got dual-boot on my phone, neither do U boot to magldr to charge... But it's happening to my phone every few days so far. Today it was out by 28mins. I want to see if having it on manual time/date does any better...
i also have a problem with my hd2,
9 times out of 10 when i reboot the phone the time and date will be wrong with no pattern i can spot (started to do this out of the blue- no updates or new roms).
im currently running with a cooked win mo image and android on the sd card.
battery still has a respectable life although seems to run out quicker than it once did so i may purchase a new one. (the old one is just over 12 months old)
also my phone has started to freeze on pin request after receiving a text so im gonna try a new image too
if anyone else has seen problems like these and solved them drop a noobie a helping hand pleeeeaaasseeee....
It's not HD2 related
The same issue happens to me (phone jump approximately 36 hours foward randomly)
The phone was a LG Optimus 7 on official rom but never managed to fix this issue (automatic date or not)

I have the same issue! It happened some months after flashing xboxmods v. 1.11 Rom. It can't be a battery problem because I use 3 different batterys ^^

Revolution HD 6.x Bootloop

Since upgrading to Android Revolution HD 6.0 and now 6.1, pretty frequently (3 or 4 times a day) my phone will automatically reboot and then get stuck in a bootloop process. Taking the battery out gets it all up and running again but its pretty annoying and drains the battery when I don't know its doing it in my pocket
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks
Actually, I have the same, but since 6.1.1. And I noticed it's not exactly a bootloop. It looks like a hot restart but then the ROM won't show.

Mine kept on waking in my pocket, trying to access the locations app. Flashed virtuous unity instead and find it superior in almost every way. Personal opinion only mind, but I did think arhd was very nice though
i also facing the same problem.. have u all tried to voice out in ARHD thread?
I couldn't at the time because of the ten posts required rule, by the time I'd got enough I was on a new ROM and had forgot to be honest. Plus I reckon my problem was caused by me trying to restore app data through titanium rather than a fault in the ROM itself but then again I could bee wrong... But I did try to find solutions to the problem in the forums and didn't find anything similar to my problem to no avail, not even anyone with something similar so I just moved on figuring that it was probably for the best. Worked out better for me in the end cause I got more practice flashing roms, learned not to try to batch restore apps just in case and learned the benefit of backing up your nice shiny new working ROM
Happened to me once while I was on 5.2.6. It's to do with the date and time setting. Try untick "automatic" and set the time and date manually. Once you manage to shut down your phone you can retick the the automatic option
maybe your phone cant Handel the overclock? try flashing the script to return the CPU to default settings in the same thread you got the ROM from.

Clock Issue when changing Batteries

Hello guys,
I have this very annoying issue right now. I'm running Hyperdroid on my HD2 but I had the problem with all builds so far. I have two batteries for convinience and it seems like everytime I remove the battery and put the new one in the time on my phone changes.
Even more weird, it changes to the time and date when the battery was pulled out. So if I used the battery until yesterday 10am, the same time and date will appear again.
There is no difference beween using 'use network provided values' or not. I'm using China Mobile, but also had this problem while traveling in India and Iran. It just doesn't sync...
Does anybody know how to fix this? It's very annoying especially if you rely on the alarm clock or even when you get text messages and they go back in time and you wonder where they go.
ive had this happen to be, its a rom issue withthe rom you are using
i used to get around it by using a time sync program from the market
Okay, I'm going to try a different rom first. Thanks!
Got the same issue myself
Just check the time after putting the battery back in I imagine you don't pull the battery every day?
