my friend bought a note 3 ( international version )
all was working great in the first hours then the phone asked to download an OTA
after it finished and restarted there was no signal and the IMEI is lost ( no IMEI )
please help
please help
Most likely the phone has been tampered with. Where did your friend buy it from? Only option is to get a refund from wherever he got it from.

Looks like the IMEI was blacklisted. This usually happens with stolen or tampered devices.

if its stolen , or on a contract plan. its probably been blacklisted!
not sure if you can change it or not. but either way should take it back!
is there a place/website you can go to check if its okay?

this is my first thread on this website so i apologize if its in the wrong section...
Samsung galaxy note 3 which is on meteor network (Ireland) and it was also insured and the lad claimed insurance on it so its blocked now...
so i was wondering is there any way that it can be unblocked and used on a different carrier e.g. Three/vodafone/o2 (Ireland) ??
if there any way please let me know so i can buy it
It was claimed on insurance as..? Stolen? Lost?
In which case the IMEI has been blocked...

He did not like the phone so he went back to the shop to return it but they would not take it back because there was nothing wrong with the phone so he claimed insurance on it...
he has the box and receipt for it...
so is there any way it can be unblocked?

Probably nothing you can do because as far as anything official is concerned it's now a stolen phone especially if the carrier paid out an insurance claim or gave him a replacement phone. Trying to activate it on another carrier might even get you a visit from the police (for having 'stolen' property or for fraud). Probably the best course of action would be to just return the phone to the carrier saying that he 'found' it or that it was returned to him or something and call it a lesson learned...
It's Black listed and therefore it won't work anymore without doing some illegal stuff to it. Don't buy the phone unless you don't want to use it as a phone. .... Just a multimedia device.

You should report the fraudster too!
It's people like him who are causing rising premiums on insurance - it is not a "victimless" crime!

Hi
I'm with Telstra ( Australia ) I replaced my Note 3 after I lost it with there $180 replacment plan. With this, the old phones IMEI is blocked and you are given a new phone. I ended up finding my old Note 3 last night.. Now its as good as a paper weight because I got my new one from Telstra and they will not unblock it because of the ToS of the replacement plan. What options do I have? I'm rather new to EFS and IMEI stuff.. Can I use an EFS back up of my old HTC one X to use its IMEI?
Sorry again for my lack of knowlage but I haven't been able to find much info on it at all.
Thank you <3

Well, the honest thing to do would be to give the locked phone back to Telstra. Everything else would be illegal - starting from selling the phone for parts and ending with highly-illegal ways to change your IMEI.
Unfortunately, we do not allow discussions on IMEI modifications as it is considered illegal in several parts of the world.

Hello there XDA! I have a dilemma I bought a used Samsung galaxy s4 i337 from a guy locally and I tried to downgrade the firmware using Odin and I somehow missed up the Wifi because it would not turn on. Long story short I sent the phone to Samsung because it was still under warranty and they replaced the motherboard and sent it back. Upon receiving the device I went to pop in my buddy's AT&T similar (I have metro pcs) and it gave the MM#2 error. I checked the IMEI online and it shows blacklisted/stolen on checkesnfree. So pretty much this guy sold me the phone reported it stolen then used the money to get another through insurance probably. What are my options at this point. I know IMEI change is illegal but is it easy to just swap out motherboards on these devices? Anybody have a suggestion?
Someone was trying to do that with my S5 I had posted for sale. He was asking for the IMEI, serial, receipt, etc... he was for sure going to try to insure it, then report it stolen.
Hi guys
I was a really happy S4 user before I let it fall in the ground before my S4 died I backed up everything also EFS.
Anyway I bought a new Note 3 from a other country and the problem is the dealer told me that he changed the motherboard or removed the IMEI for some reason well I don't know exactly what he did with it and here I question is it possible to use the EFS of mine S4 to the note 3?
PS I still have the S4 and both of the phones are legal bought and I also don't know if I'm at the right topic
No you can't transfer from a completely different device and this is still illegal
Don't know why you'd want to change your imei when you have a working phone???

Hi Guys,
my Problem is that i buyed my father a new phone. he lives in turkey and if you want to use a phone longer than 1 month in turkey you must register it. otherwise they block your imei and you cant use the phone. so i want to change the imei from the new phone to the old one what is registered, otherwise my father must pay about 150€, and thats not okay. i bought the phone in media markt germany and i got the receipt. i think its not okay that you have to pay that money to the state, if you buy a new phone.. thats crazy and much money for nothing. the older phone is a galaxy s2 what has a registered IMEI and i want to change the IMEI of the new phone to the older ones, that he doesnt have to pay for the new phone. so my question, can i do a EFS backup of the galaxy s2 and restore it on a galaxy s5, is it possible? or is there another way to change the IMEI of the phone? in my opinion its not illegal in that way, cause i got the receipt and the original boxes of those phones. i am from germany so excuse me for my school english, i hope you know what i mean.
thanks in advance
In a word.......no
The IMEI is a number that is unique to every cellphone. In many countries, altering this number is against the law. If anybody here on XDA gives you information on how to do it, they'll be breaking XDA rules too.......
