I have a Samsung Galaxy S. The details on 'About' menu of the phone are:
Model Number:
GT-I9000
Firmware version:
2.1-update1
Baseband version:
I9000XXJF3
Kernel version:
2.6.29
[email protected] #2
Build number:
ECLAIR
I use the phone on T-Mobile. I have no idea if it is locked, etc, but was purchased there from new (well a reseller website, not sure where it physically came from).
I have never updated this phone. This is as the phone was purchased one year ago. I have not installed any new ROMs, official or custom. I am the only owner and therefore no it has never been updated without my knowledge.
I am aware a new version of Android is out and have installed the Kies software, wishing to do this the 'official' route.
I get the following error message in Kies:
The current version is not an official release.
Firmware upgrade service for unofficial versions is not supported.
Current firmware version: PDA:JF4 / PHONE:JF3 / CSC:JE6 (TMU)
Any help at all? I really want to get this updated, especially after the hassle of install the terrible Kies software! I would prefer to do this the 'official' route without installing custom ROMs etc.
Has anybody seen such a message before? Thanks!
If your using a T-Mobile version, use Samsung Kies Mini. Search for it in google.

Thank you very much for the reply.
I am on T-Mobile UK and got the phone from them. I assume this means I am using a T-Mobile UK version. Can Samsung Kies Mini upgrade T-Mobile UK? If so, can you please provide a link? When searching via Google all I can find is Kies Mini for Mac. There are some old versions that come up, too, but these seem to be for specific phones.
If you could give any further advice on how to upgrade my Samsung Galaxy S i9000 on T-Mobile UK that'd be great .
Thanks.
PS - Is this part of my original post:
Kernel version:
2.6.29
[email protected] #2
relevant at all? Should it say 'root'? I have never 'rooted' the phone. Could this be why Kies is unhappy with my firmware version? Thanks.
Try this one:
"ars.samsung.com/customer/usa/jsp/faqs/faqs_view_us.jsp?SITE_ID=22&PG_ID=2&PROD_SUB_ID=557&PROD_ID=560&AT_ID=341559"
It's for US but just give it a try. After installing the software, let it update to the latest version then connect your phone. My sister's phone came from US and I used this to update hers.

Thanks for the link, I had found that before but ignored it because it does not mention i9000.
I'll give it a while incase any other ideas come in, otherwise I'll give it a go. The fact it's for the US (and you used it to update a US phone) does not give me confidence it'll work for a UK phone. I'll try it as a last resort, but I'd like to see if there are any other options for the moment.
I've given T-Mobile UK a call who were useless -If you cannot update because of Samsung Kies then you'll have to contact Samsung, not us. I contact them and they basically say 'take it into a Samsung authorised repairer'. I call my nearest one and it sounds far from a professional outfit - 'Just drop it off'. I'd hoped they could update it on the spot but I was told I'd have to leave it with them... I cannot afford to be without my phone, though.
It looks like I might have to stick to the current version I've got, I cannot get Kies to give any message other than the one in the original post... And none of the 'official' support lines are bothered. No wonder people don't bother with the 'official' releases... Though I'd like to in order to keep my warranty intact.
Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried contacting T-Mobile already, see previous post (relevant section below):

I'm basically left without any help from them. I'd rather not go down the Do-It-Yourself route, mainly because I do not understand all of the steps that need doing. Each guide is *slightly* different... And I've no idea which (specific) files I should download and from where... And kernel? And ROM? And.. Urgg. I also see Phone/PDA/CSC... It's a minefield for somebody that does not know enough and wanted an easy update.
I am starting to consider doing it myself but really need to find one definitive guide that I should follow.
Thanks.
i have been at this 3 hours now and i have now idea what to do.
im trying to root my SGS4, i find solutions but then it says something like "you cant use this method unless your device is carrier unlocked".

Please take your concerns to the SGS4 Forum (search for s 4, with a space in between). You have the regular s4, so you're gonna find a thread there with info you need.
now let us enjoy our s4 active forum, or go get yourself an s4 Active and maybe you'll understand.
- Good Day Sir!
haha... yay we have our own forum now .
Somebody did not take that left turn at Alberqurque!
There are many carriers and models of the S4. make sure you are in the correct forum to avoid creating a $700 paperweight

There is nothing to see, it's as if the GT 19507 exists only in Australia, owing to the different iterations of 4G.
I guess no-one is going to take the risk and use another 4G ROM, or root.

i am having a similar issue i recently done an insurance claim through optus for my Galaxy i used to have a i9505 i ended up with an i9507 i had never heard of such a model and i have found it only exists through optus in AUS/HK so i believe(not 100% sure ) but i have read a number of blogs and forums before coming here and a number of people have had successes with using the i9505 firmware

Firstly it's I9507 not 19507
Pretty much the same issues here as the other folks.
only a different number on the kernel. The I9507 only exists in Australia & Hong Kong
more commonly registered as Samsung Galaxy S4 TD-LTE (According to the Samsung website)
Like others I've been told 'Use the 19505 software you'll be fine'.
I have however managed to get my hands on the I9507 firmware through http://www.sammobile.com/

Unlocking the bootloader
Hello,
I know this thread is a little old now but seems to be a good place to ask, so I hope some one sees this and can help!
I really really want to root my GT-I9507, asap, have been looking through this site alot recently and the simplest (for a noob) way seems to be 'CF-Auto-Root'.
The problem I am having and not being able to solve is how do I unlock the bootloader?
As chainfire says it can brick my phone if locked and it would appear that it almost certainly is, but I cant find a way to unlock the GT-I9507, only for AT&T and Verizon (American not Australian). I can see that some people must have as they have used the 'CF-Auto-Root' method.
Any ideas, or if someone can point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Katoiam

I managed to root it mate, flashed latest optus 4.4.2, then flashed Philz recovery, then flashed CF autoroot ( the new version dedicated specifically for i9507 which you may find on cf autoroot website
. )
Use This CF AutoRoot; ( This one is for Android 4.4.2 )
http://download.chainfire.eu/503/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-jftdd-jftddzh-gti9507.zip
Check all versions here;
http://autoroot.chainfire.eu/
If you want custom recovery, use PhilZ ( The same as for I9505 ).
Good Luck.
This may be a stupid thing to say, but I am very worried about bricking my phone, so how come it doesn't brick the phone if chainfire says you have to have a unlocked bootloader?

The steps I wrote above were the ones I followed, I haven't touched the bootloader, only upgraded to stock 4.4.2 then rooted it and flashed PhilZ recovery.
I have just made the plunge and rooted my phone.
So I used the Chainfire-autoroot method as stated above, but didn't flash either the stock rom (as I already had 4.4.2, nor the recovery (as it was saying it needed to be rooted before it would work!)) and it all worked fine.
I have some issues trying to get odin to see my phone, which were rectified by going to samsung for the drivers.
So for anyone who is wondering, Optus have not (at least by 27/1/15) not locked their bootloaders on the GT-I9507.
I hope that this might eventually help someone, and I'm not just talking to my self!

Hello everyone! im sure this post has been covered but I having trouble navigating around and finding the info I need. I would like to start by saying 6 years ago I owned an htc hero that I rooted and installed cyanogenmod on using xda developers. everyone on here was extremely knowledgeable and helpful so this is where I am returning to first with my questions and issues. here is my story.\
we ordered and purchased my mother a galaxy s4 online. it came from Germany. We received it already unlocked, rooted, and custom software installed
its one thing for me to start with a stock phone and do it all myself, but im not sure how to take this already modified phone and turn it into cyanogenmod or back to stock (without losing root).
here is the phones current info

I am very very outdated on my terms and what this all means but very much willing to learn!! im exited to start modifying her phone and making it better as it is ALWAYS dying and im not sure why the company we bought it from modded it in the first place. I would like info on what was done to this (if anyone knows) and how I can either get it wiped clean (so they have no access to the custom stuff they put on it) and how I can install either cyanogenmod or another up to date custom rom, OR how I can restore it to factory rom that way I can do updates to newer android WITHOUT LOSING ROOT (if this is possible) all recommendations links and info is appreciated! I used to be apart of the xda community and have been out of the loop for a few years and would love to start learning again. my biggest fear is bricking or ruining my moms phone. she needs it for use everyday and I cant do anything that will ruin her phone (although I know all this comes with risk I trust the knowledge of most of the experienced users on here). her phone is an unlocked gsm phone as it is hooked up to a bring your own ATT phone Straight talk line.
Lets Get Started
