I have twrp 2.6.3.2 installed. I used freegee to install it.
I want to be at latest version so I can back up EFS easily before I start flashing roms.
Is there an easy way to upgrade twrp?
Thanks

There are plenty of threads to answer your vague question.... But you have to be completely stock first.
So to be more specific, would I have to flash a stock recover, lose root and upgrade. Then root and flash twrp again?

That's right.
How about just flashing the OTA zip file in TWRP? That way you wouldn't lose data, right?
Could I upgrade to the latest twrp and is there a zip to flash?

Assuming you are on Android 5 (Lollipop) then things have changed and you need to use fastboot from a PC to install TWRP 2.8.1.0
That worked for me as I just upgraded my Nexus 5 with my Nexus 10 next on the list. Of note is that you need to root your device BEFORE installing TWRP due to some Android 5 specific changes. Chainfire's root fixes that issue with custom recoveries.
For example on my linux PC:
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.8.1.0-xxxxxxx.img
All I did is flash the original 5.0 Lollipop release, then fastboot flashed TWRP and CFAR to get back root and done. Running the stock rom with TWRP and Root with no problems. I actually find this setup to run smother than the few ROMs that were created with options in them.
Hello,
sometimes I am reading that some users are installing TWRP via AutoRec.
But sometimes I am also reading that some users install Bump!ed versions of TWRP by simply flashing it directly via Flashify for example.
Are there any advantages/disadvantages comparing those methods?
Or would both give the same results?
What is currently considered the best way to install TWRP on the LG G2 when TWRP has not been installed yet?
Regards

It depends on the roms you will be using, if you're going to use a bumped ROM then using the latest stock base and flashing twrp though flashify is the cleanest method, but if the ROM you're using isn't bumped you need the jelly bean bootloader and thus should use autorec. Note that you can install bumped ROMs on the jelly bean bootloader but you CAN NOT install non bumped ROMs on the kitkat bootloader. If you are using a bumped setup and flash a non bumped ROM, it will boot loop. If you don't have a BUMPED ROM still on your storage, you will need to factory reset through download mode or fastboot (whichever you have, some flashable bootstacks purposefully break download mode to enable fastboot. I personally prefer download mode, if I can't get to an adb prompt I'd rather just flash a kdz).

Hey wq.
I very recently installed AutoRec on my D802, which has the latest 4.4.2 KK. It works flawlessly, and I recommend it. I believe the .apk installs TWRP 2.7.0.0, which has worked for me very well, and I have installed at least 15 different ROMs with it so far.
Hello,
thank you very much for your fast and detailed answers.
So, let's assume someone uses AutoRec to install TWRP for the first time on a LG G2, which only installs an old version of TWRP (version 2.7.0.0).
Which TWRP version should one then use to update to the latest version of TWRP?
Would you use the blastagator version from over there:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/development/twrp-twrp-2-8-0-0-kernel-f2fs-tools-t2898705
Or would you use the official version from over there:
http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/197
And how would you install it?
By simply booting into TWRP 2.7.0.0 (provided by AutoRec) and then from there flashing the latest TWRP zip file?
Regards

I wanted to flash cloudy rom which is bumped.
So i straight away used flashify to flash bumped recovery and then flashed the rom..
No autorec needed.
I flashed blastgator's twrp with thermal control.
Sorry for my English in advance
I have the note 3 and when the new Lollipop version was leaked i flashed it on my device, but i lost root and my old recovery (TWRP).
Now, I'm not sure how to get the TWRP recovery back.
Can i just download a new version of TWRP and flash it?
Cheers.
Just follow the TWRP instructions.
Hello,
I tried to install the new Nougat rom for jiayu S3, but it was unsuccessful. Phone got soft bricked, but I recovered it with a twrp backup.
My OS is android 4.4.4, and TRWP is 2.8. After installing the new rom , an installation error appeared and phone did not work.
I wonder it it's due to twrp 2.8, but I can't install twrp 3 (S3_h560_TWRP_3.0.2-0). There was an installation error with flashify...
The question is: can I install 7.0 from 4.4? Is it an Android problem, a TWRP issue, or just my clumsiness?
Thank you!

in short:
To go from 4.4.4 to Nougat you need to go via LP RC5 via flashify using firmware upgrade.
This is because the partition layout is different from KK to LP onwards.
Then you can flash Nougat using TWRP (which will be version 3)
Thank you very much for your answer.
Please forgive me for my ignorance but, which LP ROM should I download? Can I install it via flashify, via TWRP 2.8, o flash?
Thank you again!
You can not use Flashify, you have to do it using Flashtools (with a PC) to go from KK to LP. Download LP 5.1.1 RC 5 from MAD.

thanks to correct me, I thought Flashtools was meant
Well, I'm in trouble now... I installed successfully 5.1 in my S3, but when updated twrp 2.8 to 3.0, it did not work, so I can't install Nougat...
Now I have no twrp, and no root. How can I root to install twrp? I can't install superSU neither....
I'm sorry if it has been already answered but I can't find it.
Thanks a lot
I re-installed LP with Flash tools and everything worked right. (In twrp , it says 2.8 version, instead of 3.0, though).
Now I installed Nougat, and everything is ok.
Thank you for your excellent job!
I am on software version VS9803aa, can i install TWRP without any problems ?
You need to be on VS98039a to install TWRP using AutoRec.
