Is there anyway I can just solder a generic micro usb port onto the board (This one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-ASUS-Google-Nexus-7-First-Gen-Charging-Port-REV-1-2-/141138826759?pt=UK_iPad_Tablet_Chargers_Sync_Cables&hash=item20dc879607), reason being is that everything works fine except for the micro usb board (a pin broke when I was trying to fix it) how easy would it be to do it and can it be done?

You're just wanting to pull the port off the new board and soldier it on the old board? I don't see why it won't work so long as the joints match up and the legs are not to long. The pin out should be the same. I think you should be fine.
Edit: I guess I should have looked better. I don't know if the first gen has the same layout as the 2nd gen. I can't say if that whole piece will fit right.

I'm saying If I get some generic port off eBay for a couple quid will I be able to solder it onto the old board that looks like the one in the picture? I stupidly posted this in the nexus 2013 forum however this is indeed for first gen. Thanks.

The only thing which is standardized about the connector shell is the mechanical details of the mating portion of the connector. How the rest of it mates mechanically and electrically to a supporting PCB/PWB does not need to be standardized at all. So, if you happen to end up with the exact same connector, then great. Just any connector? Not so much.
You might be fine attempting it, but there are risk of damaging the PCB (cracking vias barrels from their land pads (too much heat), accidentally tearing surface copper pads off during component removal, etc.
A good electronics technician will have a number of tricks & techniques for rework/repair operations (e.g. using an excess solder flood during component removal), but chief among these is being able to carefully control the amount of heat being applied (tip choice and a variable temperature controller for the iron).
I bring this up because the cost of everything you need to perform the job well exceeds the part cost for that whole headphone jack/USB port flex cable assembly (US $50) unless you have those good tools already. (I have to suppose you don't; otherwise you could have answered your own question)
If you can find the right connector shell and are determined to do the job with a cheap soldering iron, do yourself a favor and at least buy some paste flux (Kester?) and some fine copper "solder wick" braid along with the solder you buy. And it is probably also a good idea to disassemble the N7 so you are not trying to perform the repair "in place").

'Sup XDA. I've been dying to get induction charging on my Nexus S since I got a Touchpad. Even found someone who did it over at androidcentral. Have all the parts.
I know full well that I am completely responsible for any screw-up I happen to do.
Now that that's out of the way, I just need to figure out which pins to solder to. HERE is the teardown and just wanted pointed out which pins I should take the soldering iron to. Any help appreciated.

wish I would have kept the back from my palm pre, I do still have a couple touchstones though. Might be cool to put an NFC tag in the touchstone to launch the dock mode. Might do this if I am feeling adventurous one day.

Can you just program any passive tag for that? Should just be a step of sticking it on right?
Wow, this looks awesome.
But if I understood correctly the problem, the NFC antenna must always remain between the inductive antenna and the battery. I haven't tried, but it seems that the NFC antenna can be simply removed. Wouldn't the inductive antenna fit between the NFC antenna and the case? That way it would all fit inside, leaving the awesome exterior untouched.

There's a risk that the antenna would have 5V running through it and consequently through the NFC radio/parts, etc. if you keep the coil inside the case behind the NFC tag.

I think so. I havn't messed around with an NFC task launcher, but I remember reading a thread where people were using an NFC tag to launch car mode when placed into a car dock. Should just need to buy a tag and set it up with an NFC launcher.
I rather recently received this chinese tablet, and unfortunately whilst charging the tablet it stopped powering on and working period, so I took it apart and salvaged the working parts. I am inquiring about the name of the screen connector and the touch surface connector. I have attached images of them both below.

Nope just empy space my best guess would be a C or D sized ribbon cable but im not sure and If I can learn the pin out I can just wire it up to a VGA or the likes the touch screen is another story I also need to know how much power this thing runs on because Im sure ive got the resources to power it.
The main thing is getting the LCD controller: is there some chip or PCB somewhere on (or inside maybe?) the housing of LCD display? If not, you'll find the chip on the tablet's mainboard, and by searching for it's name, you might find a complete controller with VGA/S-Video/Composite/RGB input (something that's supported by controller), and you hook up the display there.
Simpler way, how I'd do it, would be to look up for the datasheet of chip on the Google, and then wire the inputs according to pinout in datasheet.
It might take time to find out how to power it up and how to feed it with image, but in the end it should work - currently I'm working on a same thing, but with LCD taken from portable DVD player with controller in the LCD housing.
It seems to have the controller on the accessory board, I will try to look for the data sheets like you said, thank you so much

Your post is asking for the name of those 2 connectors? They are called flexible ribbon cable, easy to break and imo not really flexible at all, cause they break.
Can't remember how many of those buggers I broke over the years.

Thanks to HTC and the garbage job they do baking the electrical components in their phones I am looking for a HD2 mobo or someone who can do some PCB repair and at least get my mobo charging again. I have dumped money into a new digitizer and lcd, front keypad and mobo main flex cable and the main problem that caused me to destroy all those parts in the first place (micro usb port) still isnt fixed after my attempt at resoldering it to the board. Anyone? Thanks ahead of time, I've lurked here for a while and never really posted so I cant look in the classifieds I take it.

Unfortunately no, Im in central Florida
I'll post some pics later when I get home from work, when the port broke it lifted the traces for pins 4 and 5 which I understand are the ground. Pin 1 is apparently the +5 volt pin. Thats all I need, I can do without being able to communicate with the phone via PC. I really have no reason to use ADB with this handset and any ROMS can be loaded via my SD reader/writer in my PC and just reinsert the card to the phone after.
Has anyone ever tried replacing the I/O port in the (1st gen) Nexus 7 yet? I need to and think I am going to do so myself.

Ive torn the unit down and had a good look at the internals. The IO USB port seems like a simple swap. Id just plan on taking it nice and slow. And dont use a soldering iron thats to hot! also unplug the battery. cant be to safe!

Don't replace the port, replace the whole board. I recall it was in the $10-$15 range. I quickly googled and found it for $30 here:

But there was another site I seem to recall was cheaper, use the googles.
Once you get the part, just take off the cover, etc per tear down info, but realize that the IO cable connector has a part that flips up to release the cable. Don't just yank on it.

Unfortunately I dropped my xt907 (with some serious force) and smashed the screen.It appears that the phone itself is still functioning because lights are flashing, its making notification sounds and when connecting to my computer via USB i can access all my files. Since i dont want to buy a new one and be handcuffed with a locked boot loader I'm going to attempt a repair. Does anyone know if putting my motherboard into another phone (maybe with a bad ESN) will bring my phone back to life? My other thought was to salvage the motherboard, battery and camera and just install them in a brand new LCD screen, digatizer and backing. any feedback would be appreciated!
Just pick one up off Ebay or something and swap the screens... Its rather easy to do in my opinion... I usually grab one that's water damaged...

Btw how is KK soak bld hunting getting on?
I wish it was as simple as replacing the screen but the backside got all messed up too. I managed to get the board out but in doing so there was a tiny metal hinge looking thing that broke off the backside of the board next to there the power plug. I'm sure that completes a circuit somewhere so I guess my little project is over. not good.

here are some photos. I have circled the area of the motherboard that was chipped. In motherboard1 the piece that broke off is in the photo as well. In the backing photo I circled the area that may be a contact point to complete a circuit.
Yeah that looks done... It may just be for the wifi but doesn't look like it can be Jimmy rigged ... I was thinking maybe a touch of foil on it but I don't see any tracers to make the connection

Yeah i think some solder and a a little luck would be my only shot. Ill probably just try to buy a used one that someone already unlocked.
That's for the LTE Rx antenna. The motherboard will probably still work, but you will have diminished LTE reception.
That motherboard might still be useful for someone who is using their phone on GSM networks and can't use LTE anyway.
I might be interested in it if you'd be willing to sell it real cheap.

Hard to say, but in my opinion, the answer is YES. I don't think you'll have any chance of finding the broken trace, I sure can't see it in that photo and I'm guessing it's not visible. However, I bet one of those tiny components near where it used to be was directly connected to it. You would need either a wiring diagram or trace an undamaged motherboard with the ohms setting of a multimeter to see if any of those components were directly connected to the terminal. You could then probably reform that gold terminal with tweezers, and solder a very, very tiny wire between the solder end of the appropriate component and that terminal and use a good strong epoxy to glue the terminal back down to the board in its correct location. You'd need a really good pencil-tip soldering iron, really steady hands, and good soldering skills to do that kind of micro-soldering.
I'm thinking to part out the RAZR M that I bricked over the weekend. If you're interested, I can test my board to see if any of those nearby components have continuity to the terminal.
Not sure if you're still wanting to fix it, but I pulled my bricked RAZR M apart today and saw this is a pretty easy fix.
That terminal connects directly to the lower of the 2 black SMD components. In fact, I didn't notice before, but in your pic there is still some visible trace connected to it. Should be pretty simple to epoxy the terminal back onto the board and solder a short piece of wire onto the remainder of the trace.
I do want to fix it and will be giving it a try! I'll post the results

I made a Mobo Transplant also once.
Got a Broken LCD phone which was damaged before the OTA (that locks our BL)
And took that and swapped it into mines =)
Now i have a good Phone with a Unlocked BL
And sold my old one back out for same price =) Win Win for me.
