So I have a VERIZON G2 and have rooted and also installed TWRP (via Flashify). I downloaded the Paranoid Android and Gapps files from this page (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2502789) and transferred it onto my G2.
Next, I entered TWRP, and did a factory reset via the wipe option. Then, I flashed the PA and Gapps files in succession then did the "cache and dalvik" wipe.
When I reboot, here is where I run into problems.
The 4 color circles appear and load but my G2 is stuck there. I have waited for an hour and still nothing worked. So I entered TWRP again, did another factory reset, flashed both files, and rebooted; but still no success.
Can anyone tell me why this isn't working? I have TWRP 2.6.3.2 and the latest PA and Gapps files from the thread pasted above. Could this be from using Flashify to install TWRP?
Thanks!
You need to wipe the system. When you do the factory reset it only wipes user data and cache. I believe in twrp you have to do a custom wipe and tell it to wipe system.

How do you wipe the system? I don't see an option for that in TWRP. I only see "Advanced Wipe" and "Format Data" buttons (if that's what you call them), and the "Swipe to Factory Reset" at the bottom.
Also, in the "Advanced Wipe" section, there are options to check "Dalvik Cache", "System", "Data", "Internal Storage", and "Cache". You can check these then "Swipe to wipe" at the bottom.

Then do a factory reset...

You answered yourself cause that's the options you should select. Don't select "internal Storage" though or you'll be wiping your internal SD
Besides that you could have asked in the respective Q&A Thread

If I recall correctly I believe you need to have TWRP 2.6.3.3 for PA to flash correctly. I would restore the nandroid back up you made, well I hope you made. Flash TWRP to 2.6.3.3 and then try installing the rom again.

i'm newbie so i'm sorry if i make mistakes..
since i had problem with TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 Nightly v3.2.1
i have flashed this Rom (thanks ti tyween) over a different Rom i used before, i followed ROM or Kernel-UpdateROM instruction, everything works fine except i keep getting "Sorry! The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly..please try again." jump continuously on myscreen
Hope somebody help me out thank U!!!
First off did you do a full wipe of all your partitions cache, boot, data, system, and then to advanced and wipe delvike cache before flashing your new ROM?
Also did you do at least two soft resets after flashing your new ROM?
As posted above, if you have not done so I would suggest a full wipe and re-flash. Sounds like something went wrong during the flash, or your partitions are wrong.
I've had this problem before, so again, full wipe and re-flash according to the instructions by the dev and let us know.

Try the "Wipe data/factory reset" option and the other options you listed before and then reflash the ROM. Then report back.

I want to have a clean install on my Nexus, and I was wondering what it meant to "WIPE". Is it Factory reset, cache, dalvik cache, and system? Or is it also system too?
I have TWRP
Thank you!
factory reset. when you wipe data, you factory reset. that automatically wipes your cache and dalvik too.

Thank you so much for answering all my stupid questions. So If I wanted a new clean start for my phone (while it still being rooted and not losing all my SD card files) I would just have to do a factory reset, then flash?
Unfortunately, the terminology seems to vary from device to device and even from recovery to recovery.
It can mean either (a) "destroy the filesystem and rebuild a new blank one" or it can mean (b) "don't destroy the filesystem but delete all the files in it". In both of these cases, access to all files are lost, but there are subtle differences for the flash memory with regards to whether the blocks are marked as erased or not.
As regards to recent versions of TWRP, the "factory reset" button underneath the Wipe menu does not behave exactly like either of the above cases (although it is more similar to case (b)), nor does it behave the same way as the stock recovery's version of "factory reset", which deletes EVERYTHING in /data.
TWRP's version of "factory reset" erases everything in /cache, but when it comes time to deal with the /data partition, it avoids erasing all the files in /data/media. This is where the "internal SD card" files are stored INCLUDING ANY BACKUP FILES you might have made (if you didn't use an external storage for the backup)
Here's what I would recommend when using the Wipe menu in TWRP:
1) Put the tablet down on a table before you enter the Wipe menu - don't hold it in your hands. The reason for this is that none of the touch buttons require confirmation, so an accidental touch could lead to an immediate disaster involving loss of your backups.
2) If you are installing a new ROM from scratch, the only button you need to use is the "factory reset" button - nothing else. (Performing Dalvik wipe or Cache wipe are superfluous as the "factory wipe" button takes care of this) *1
3) If you are installing a ROM which is a small revision from a prior version - and the ROM dev has explicitly indicated it is OK to do a "no wipe" install, use only the "cache wipe" and "dalvik wipe" bttons. *2
In short, you should really only use the top four buttons in TWRP under normal circumstances. Especially you should avoid the "wipe data" button unless you are:
- selling the device or returning it
- some disaster happened where the /data partition fails to mount any longer.
*1 It is somewhat unusual that ROM devs fail to add a wipe of /system in their scripting prior to
installation; so typically using the "wipe sytem" button is not needed for new ROM installs, and it is cerainly not desired if you want to do a complete reset of whatever ROM is already installed.
*2 Doing this kind of thing is just asking for trouble - understanding and using the Titanium Backup along with full-wipe installs is a better idea.
cheers
Would "format data" simply be equivalent to "advanced wipe" with all the options checked?
If I wanted a completely clean slate, format data would be the option, but if I wanted a new rom, clearing data, cache and dalvic would be the minimum necessary right? What about a new kernel/update of the rom?

if its an update to the rom, no need to wipe anything, flashing a rom automatically wipes the cache and dalvik. if its a new rom, factory reset first(thatll also wipe cache/dalvik). if youre flasging kernels, you never ever have to wipe anything, no matter what others tell you. wiping cache/dalvik has absolutely nothing to do with kernels.

Are you looking to return 100% to stock? or just resetting your current rom?
I'm just resetting my current rom. Does anyone have an answer for the first question though? What exactly is the format option?

NO that "format data" will wipe your SD card partition. The one in advance will wipe data but not the SD

Hello, I have N9005 with KK bootloader, yesterday I installed TWRP and got the message below. I still can flash ROMs (actually installed Omega with no problem). Later I tried CWM and Philz, but get the same message. Even if I try to manually mount cache it does not work. How to solve this issue? I would be glad if anyone can help. And another thing, when I installed Omega ROM in aroma and chose custom kernel, phone did not boot, with the message on boot screen was something about ''selinux kernel not ...''. Then I installed again with stock kernel and phone booted normally...
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log

Anyone with the same issue, how did you solve it? Is there a partition corruption involved?

Thank you very much for the instructions. Actually I somehow managed to solve the issue few minutes ago. I just used wipe cache function, left the phone for about 10 min and it did it. After that there was no message about can't mount cache anymore and wiping cache takes only few seconds from then on. Hope it is solved... Or should I still do what you suggested, fixing file system... Is it safer to use TWRP or CWM based recovery. Is it just personal preference?
One more thing if I may, Do you happen to know if there is problem with custom kernels and booting ROMs on Note 3... With custom omega kernel phone did not boot, when using stock kernel it did without problem...

No, no need to to it anymore. Glad you got your phone working again. If it happens again, try the steps I mentioned in my first post. I'd be happy if you then could report whether it worked or not. I can only guess if it's just about personal preference. Both recovery systems do basically the same with TWRP being the most advanced and easy to use. I use TWRP because of the many options and most importantly password protection to enter recovery. But be aware that some ROMs are only flashable with certain recovery systems. I can't tell the reason behind it.
I'm sorry, I can't tell you why your phone didn't boot up on Omega kernel. The best thing you can do is re-read OP and ask in the dedicated threads for help.
Thank you very much for being helpful!

Possibly because there is no OS installed, or correctly installed. Clean flash the latest stock ROM via Odin and repeat the process.

My fault. I should have clarified. Its an Alcatel phone, not a Samsung so Odin doesn't work. The phone was performing poorly so I decided to wipe the cache. It took really long to wipe. After 12 hours, it was still wiping so I decided to just reboot the device. After that, I saw the "No OS installed" in twrp. I didn't wipe the system partition, only the cache. At this moment I can't wipe anything because twrp is unable to mount any partition and I'm unable to mount any partition with adb. Debugging is turned on

Oh, ok. You're new here. That's ok. Welcome at XDA =)
First I'd like you to post in the appropriate forums. This thread and the steps I provided are meant for the international Galaxy Note 3. Applying a fix that was designed for a different device than you have may brick your phone. Always look for, and apply solutions dedicated to your specific device model and OS version. When asking for help, always tell your exact device model. There are many Alcatel devices out there, you know. They all have different hardware.
A cache wipe shouldn't take more than a few seconds. On certain devices minutes. Use google to learn how you can flash a clean, stock ROM on your device. I don't know anything about Alcatel phones. Sorry.
For the Alcatel phone, restore using alcatels mobile upgrade software with the phone in download mode.

I'm getting a download error when it reaches stage 3 which is to format the userdata. Its strange because the Alcatel mobile upgrade worked on 2 different alcatel phones that I have. I think this phone is done for.

On Note 3??
hello there,
I'm cleaning my S5 and I guess I've done a mistake... It was rooted with TWRP installed 3.0.2-2.
I've been in the "Wipe" menu, then I did "format data", then reboot in recovery again.
Then again in "Wipe" menu, in "advanced wipe" and I check "dalvik", "system", "data", "internal storage" and "cache". Then reboot...
and now it's stuck on boot phase with samsung s5 logo, nothing more.
I still can have access to TWRP menu.
I guess it's because I erased quite everything... meaning I will have to reinstall a ROM.
Questions:
> is my guessing correct ?
> how to install a new ROM using TWRP ?
I can have access to a SD card, but not to a computer (only another mobile phone)
Thanks a lot for your help...
:silly:
si finally got it to work...
a. flash with cf-root
b. flash oem rom
