Ever since I upgraded to KitKat, I started to have problems with my mobile data connection.
Usually it works, but every once in a while (usually after I leave a wifi connection) it fails to connect. You can see the H on top of the mobile signal strength appearing intermittently (tries to connect, but disappears after a while. It repeats several times, but doesn't connect). When this happens, I have to reboot my phone in order for it to work (turning on and off airplane mode doesn't solve this).
I am currently using 4.4.2 with Franco Kernel (the problem also happens with stock kernel) and Davik. I'm currently using the Nexus 5 Experience rom (I was also having this problem with the stock rom.
My mobile connection worked perfectly up to 4.3. Did anyone else face or is facing this problem? Does anyone know what I could do in order to solve this problem?
Similar problem on 4.4.2. My 3G data disconnects every time when i'm not using it. I have to turn it on/off several times to get it connected back. It's not carrier problem because data doesn't drop on my other device with the same network. I'm on complete stock. In fact, just bought this phone a week ago. I googled this problem and it seems many users have this problem. I couldn't find the solution. If anyone have a solution on this issue please let us know. Thanks
You're using the latest radio?
Go to system settings - about phone - what does it say under baseband?
The newest radio should end in .98, if you're still on .84 or earlier then download the package and flash it, I'll look for the link ..

You can flash the zip in a custom recovery or use fastboot. Do not try to flash using stock recovery.
So, after struggling with the problem for a while, I decided to try flashing a custom ROM. I decided to try the CyanogenMod 11 nightlies.
The radio problems seem to be gone so far, and the rom seems to be pretty stable (even though it's a nightly).
I suggest who is having similar problems to give it a shot.

Guys,
I've been using an SGS, followed by an SGS 2 and have always used custom ROMs without any issues in the past. I have recently traded the SGS 2 with a friend for my old blu-ray player and an old SGS. Long story, won't go into why.
No matter which build of ICS I am using, I am getting serious problems with this phone. SlimICS does not find a signal at all, it just says no service. On the one I am running at the moment (4.0.4 GTi9000_IMM30B_BETA_8_RC) and also with the nightly CyanogenMod builds, if I take or make a phone call, everything is fine. When I next go to make a call, the earpiece does not become active. The data and normal network connection is still active, but this renders the phone almost useless - having to reboot the phone every time I wish to make a phone call takes as long as sending an email for me!
Also, I should be able to choose Tmobile Orange as my network service as I am with T-mobile, who is partnered with Orange to give better signal. On the ROM I currently use, "Tmobile Orange" is not a selectable network.
Is this a problem I can resolve by flashing with a different modem?
If I can't fix this I will probably just run over the phone and buy a Nokia Lumia (change does wonder for a headache!)
Any help is appreciated.

Yes I've actually used the JVU one from it and I also tried using Odin to flash it manually using the modem I am able to get Tmobile Orange with at the moment on Gingerbread - neither work.
Is there a specific modem I need to use in the UK to get this reception?
Go to samfirmware and see which it is under your section. Ex my download is called something like ""XX-KG3. Which means my modem is KG3.

I am getting nothing from the Checker page when I type in the details I have.
Like I said, I know it is JVU firmware I have because I've manually flashed it and it works perfectly, but when I install SlimICS it simply does NOT pick up a signal at all, even if I flash it with a radio seperately afterwards.
No signal
I installed Slim JB yesterday and no signal at all.
I tried JPG and JPU modems from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158783 but no avail.
Still no signal. I am going to try with other sims and even other roms to asses my problem.

the wifi manager says 'not in range', but in the network details, the signal is excelent.
I tried:
wipe/format cache.
wipe dalvik.
factory reset (wifi works some minutes before drop)
delete dhcp files.
change kernel (franco/faux)
install other roms (stock / paranoid / cm 10)
use wifi fixer.
disable router security.
change router channel..
Please help.

So it didn't work on any of the ROMs you tried?
Then try flashing the factory images. If it stays the same, then it might be caused by hardware.
WiFi Works on OTHER ROMS !
the problem seems to have happened after the kitkat update of thestock rom. on 4.2.2 and 4.3, i would flash miui v5 3.9 and wifi used to work just fine. after flashing from kitkat stock rom, the issue propped up on ALL miui roms. INCLUDING THE OLD ROM I FLASHED WHICH USED TO WORK FINE.
Have you tried flashing the 48 radio. As if you're baseband is 4.4 then maybe you're radio is incompatible with 4.2 radio, 48 radio you need think. Might be wrong check the radio thread.

You don't need to flash a modem, doing so will give you even more problems than what you have now.
None of the custom roms here in xda including VisionX contains the radio/modem image.
What you need to do is to find out exactly which kernel is 100% compatible with the i337m phone and
flash that one using cwm or twrp recovery. After you do that the wifi should work without issues.
Good luck!
I'm having the same problem and I've tried multiple kernals, and multiple roms. So far there is only one rom that wifi works with and it's a ge rom that I have backed up.

Wow, I expected this topic to be loaded with people. I did the search on the internet like you guys have and you can fine allot of other people but no one with a fix on the phone. They all keep talking about changing the router settings. We get this phone of ours and it is broke out of the box. novaracer, you said you know of a rom that does not contain this wifi problem? I am referring to the problem that you can connect to your wifi but as you download or search the web the connection disconnects and after a short time it reconnects, and disconnects, and reconnects...
Can you give some more information to the rom you are referring to? or if any other information you might have tracked down since you guys posted.

Hey guys.
Im having a problem connecting to the Verizon mobile network when Im on ANY ROM besides Stock 4.1.2.
Im guessing this is a radio/baseband problem?
Any help on the subject is MUCH appreciated.
I've seen various posts where folks on non-stock ROMs have signal issues. On my previous RAZR and now RAZR M only on stock do I get a solid signal. Non-stock gives me only fair 4G and drops to nothing when venture into 3G. Argggh's kernel based off stock I believe did help some but not give me as good a connection as stock. Suspect Moto propriety source would be needed. So for a solid connection and best battery life I stay on stock.
Maybe try MIUI?

No matter what custom rom you flash you must restore the stock partition first.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391641
Don't know if it's placebo or not, but I've found the.4.4 bases Roms seem to be a bit better than 4.2 and 4.3 or CM 10.1 or CM 10.2.
As a matter of fact, I just went back to a DST stock ROM to rule that out as a problem. Back on CM11 and there's virtually no difference.

Thanks for the fast response aviwdoowks! I ended up using Matts Util to flash back to stock rom. Then re flashed CWM recovery. 4g is back, wifi works great. All is working perfect !!!!! Backup has been made, so this time I will not get into trouble and can just flash back to stock if anything happens.
When I have some time I will try loading CM10.1 on it again and see If I can get the phone to work with a custom rom and maintain good 4g reception. If not, then I guess there is more to do... Thanks again!

Twrp & cwmr both do not restore all of the partitions.
That is why I made my restore thread.
You can be on a custom ROM & have no data you still have to go back to Rsd to fix!!!!!
But data must be wiped before Rsd.

Hi,
This is an odd one.
I get 12mb download speeds on my home wifi if i do a test from my laptop or girlfriends iphone. If I do the test on my Nexus i only get about 1.5mb.
If I reboot the router (Draytek) I get the full 12mb again for a few hours then it drops right back down to 1.5mb.
Now I know you are all thinking straight away its the router but I have recently changed this from a Linksy router to the draytek and had the same problem with that one, so it would appear it is my Nexus.
I am running PA with the latest Kernal for it.
Any ideas or help?

In "About Phone" look for baseband (a.k.a. radio) version. But be careful, if you are using Jelly Bean ROM, your radio should be 0.84. If KitKat ROM, then the radio should be .97 or .98. Don't flash 97 or 98 on Jelly Bean ROM !!!

I found this information on Google's support forum:
I can hereby confirm that flashing back the radio from M9615A-CEFWMAZM-2.0.1700.84 (default for 4.3) to M9615A-CEFWMAZM-2.0.1700.48 (default for 4.2.2), whilst keeping the rest of 4.3, did NOT fix the wifi speed and connectivity problems on my phone.
I then proceeded to downgrade completely to 4.2.2 using the Google-supplied factory images, and I'm now getting 44 Mbit/s down and 5 Mbit/s up via 802.11n, where on 4.3 with either of the two radios, I couldn't even reliably finish the test (it would stop halfway, with the download speed estimated at 7 Mbit/s). Besides that, I've now been able to update tons of apps from Play, where with 4.3 this was not possible with either of the radios.
Just in case someone finds this, the version of Android on this Nexus 4 causing endless wifi problems is:
* Android 4.3
* baseband M9615A-CEFWMAZM-2.0.1700.84
* kernel 3.4.0-perf-gf43c3d9, 2013-06-17
* build number JWR66V
The version working well is:
* Android 4.2.2
* baseband M9615A-CEFWMAZM-2.0.1700.48
* kernel 3.4.0-perf-g7ce11cd, 2013-01-29
* build number JDQ39
You should use a different radio. I'd recommend the hybrid radios 33/84. Uses .33 radio for connections such as WiFi and data, whereas .84 radio is used for calls.

I am going to give you the best info you're likely going to get as I suffer the same problem.
Don't reset you're rooter switch wifi on and off on the phone as it achieves the same results.
After a while of doing this it will improve the duration it locks on to fast wifi.
Also I think relocking the bootloader helps WHY I haven't a clue.
All I know is I have the same problem with the newest and fastest wifi available in my area and after trying everything flashable, settings in wifi and even patching my wifi from roms with my wifi working the results are.
1 go back to a stock 4.3 rom.
2 try what I suggested.

Just asking, but are you sure you didn't confuse MByte/s with Mbit/s? (Notice the lower and upper case B )
It would make sense as 12Mbit/s are 1.5MByte/s.
Ok guys, just so you know, Radio/Baseband has nothing to do with your WiFi connectivity or the transfers speeds you are getting on WiFi. All WiFi modules, drivers are present in the Kernel and NOT the modem/baseband. Hope this gives you clarity and prevent waste of your time fiddling with the modem to solve WiFi issues!!

Flashed enough radio basebands and pulled enough files from the system to know where both live. I am talking about interference something causing the wifi to drop suddenly as if the network is strangled (but its not) there's a few phones that suffer the same problems as I have read all there posts.
It's something causing it to drop turning it on and off helps for a short time in my case about 3mins tops.
It could be anything I just find it a little strange that on a custom rom any soap ,cm and custom stocks this happens but not on a Google image. So something strange is happening who knows. Just wish I did.

Is Nexus 4 getting wireless speed over 2.4mb/s?
This is the maximum that I can see at transferring of files to PC on same network.
I can't have it locked over 54mbps at settings of wireless.
