JB 4.3 / CM 10.2 Lag... Is it just my S3? - Galaxy S III General

Hi,
Is it just my i9300 or there is a lag that is evident in Jelly Bean 4.3 / CM 10.2?
I have noticed this lag when double-tapping to zoom in photos (on stock browser, stock Gallery, Quickpic, etc.) with Carbon 1.8 (JB 4.3 with default kernel and Boeffla 2.0) and CM 10.2 (JB 4.3 with default kernel and Boeffla 2.0).
Anyone else having this lag when double-tapping to zoom in photos?
Thanks in advance.

Aosp roms on the s3 are all laggy to an extent. Samsung still refuse to release the sources for exynos

AOSP JB 4.2.2 is very smooth though on my i9300. Currently using Carbon 1.7 + Boeffla 2.0 @ default frequencies -- no lags and much smoother than AOSP JB 4.3.

You aren't the only one. Same thing on my I9305 currenty using CM 10.1 stable, it is very smooth and fast. On any 4.3 rom it's lagging big time custom kernels only make it worse, I wonder why this happens

Mine has no lag on cm10.2

I feel lag on JB 4.3....

i experience minor lags from time to time nothing to severe cm10.2

There is dozens of this exact thread in the Nexus S forums. A few active and talking right now in this very sub forum. Its all a matter of personal opinion. Do some searches, read some reviews, flash and try and base your decision by your use cause no one uses their phone the same way with the same signals.

You seem new to roms, its probably best for you to start out with this combination:
ROM: Cyanogenmod 10 Nightlies
Kernel: Default CM10 kernel
or
ROM: Rasbeanjelly
Kernel: Trinity kernel
Also heres a popular list of roms and kernels
ROMs: CM10 Nightlies, Slimbean, Blackbean, Rasbeanjelly, Strawberry
Kernels: Marmite, Matrix, Trinity, Air
You can find all of them here.

You need to wipe everything (except sdcard) if you're moving from a different rom (PA)
Just do a nandroid/titanium backup and everything will be fine.
Here's the link to stock, rooted, deodexed 4.1.2 rom: http://d-h.st/t7o

CM10 is your best bet, other ROMs like Rasbeanjelly+Trinity is also good too but it's more likely a gimmick imo.
Definitely start out with CM10. I just recently got into flashing custom ROMs on my Nexus S (was rocking stock for a long time), and CM10 + Marmite kernel (smartassV2, cfq, 200/1000) is my preferred setup.
I've also tried my luck with Slimbean and Strawberry 4.1.2, but both of them always had little annoyances that you simply don't have to worry about with CM10. That being said, the AOSP-based ROMs like Strawberry and Slimbean do run very smoothly. I do plan on trying out AOKP, however, as it has a TON of customization options and appears to be pretty polished overall.
Slim Bean is the best rom for me, but I can customize everything so I have no problem. For most people it's better to use CM10 and the Jelly Bean 4.2 gapps.

Both the ROM and kernel can have an effect on gaming performance. Try testing out another kernel to see if anything improves.
Like I said earlier, I highly recommend Marmite for the Nexus S. It has great performance and battery life.

Hi, I just rooted my Nexus S (Mobilicity) the first time and I have some question here:
1. Should I just install this CM10 nightly cm-10-20121115-NIGHTLY-crespo.zip (seems to be the latest) ?
2. I found gapps 4.2 here ]highonandroid.com/android-apps/googleapps-4-2-for-android-jelly-bean-roms-gapps/, Can I use this for CM10?
3. Do I need to flash radio for CM10?

1. Yes, that's the latest nightly. Should be very stable, as far as I know.
2. DO NOT download that gapps file. The one linked in that article has the old, ugly prototype keyboard and has force closes up the anus. You can search this forum for better packages of the 4.2 Google Apps, but they are all still a little too buggy or incomplete for my tastes.
3. No need to flash a radio. CM will not overwrite your current one.

Hi guys
in my experience, the best combo is:
ROM: CodenameAndroid 3.5.0
Kernel AirKernel stable r2
the battery life is very good, there is no lag and with new ADW launcher, homescreen and drawer are very smooth

ROMS and 4.2 lag

Can anyone attest to custom ROMS killing the lag in 4.2? I'm still running stock on my 7,because I'm trying this weird experiment of trying to just be the avg stock user, since I've recommended this tab to so many people for the holidays. I've uninstalled currents and am still getting pretty bad lag. Is everyone still getting the lag on custom ROMS?
im running an aokp build from steve spears 12-22 PUB build with trinity alpha 0, 4.2 kernal and its a very delicious machine,, steve
rasbean jelly rom(4.2.1) and trinity kernel, lag free

What is the best 4.1.2 ROM?

I'm trying to find a good 4.1.2 ROM, but all seem to be 4.2.2 now. Looking for something stable.
Currently on CM 10 with Matrix kernel, but it still lags for me when swiping home screens.
Any suggestions?

[Q] Best 4.3 rom

Hey guys I'm trying to flash a better ROM because the nexus i have now is really show. Which 4.3 Rom would you guys recommend in terms of stability and performance. Or should i stick to a 4.1.2 custom ROM, because I've been hearing bad reviews for 4.2.2 ROMs
Ehi mate, for me the best rom for the nexus s smartphone is ICS 4.0.4 stock! I'm trying JB 4.3 Rom by win7fun..it's very smooth, but there are two bug: camera force closed and location doesn't work. If someone fix these bug, then this rom is perfect!! Cheers!!

Slimbean 4.3 Beta 1 has camera and location working for me. Running very smooth considering this is a single core low mem device. The magic setting in that rom is to enable "Allow purging of assets" and "Kernel samepage merging" in settings / advanced options / performance / memory management.
:good:
i use win7fun and i am very happy with this
Unofficial CM 10.2 by @noloukos
So far happy with slimbean. Tried the other pure aosp rom and that was just as good. Haven't tried cm10.2 but assuming it's also very good as well.

AOKP or ParanoidAndroid

Sorry, -Threads that ask this question are closed as "best" is a term that can only be defined by the user, who needs to make that determination on their own and based on their unique needs.

[Q] Deciding between a few Lollipop ROMs. Suggestions / user experience?

Currently running CM12, but I've been thinking between XenonHD, RastaPop, Euphoria OS, Terminus and LiquidSmooth.
Any experience about these ROMs? Most of these seem pretty same if you look at the features. But does some of these stand out?
Just start flashing and find out what you like the best.
sent with my Nexus 4.
As much as I hate CM I quite like the xenon.
Very stable and doesn't require too much micro management.
Well I had to install better battery stats but my battery problems might be down to a dodgy app.
I haven't tried them all but so far my favorite is my setup now...boostpop 2.7 with Franco sabermod kernel, overclocked to 1.7ghz max 192mhz minimum. Rro layers running giving the black look I liked on slimkat. It's as fast as I've ever felt this phone.
I've tried liquidsmooth v4 and a recent paranoid android and cm12 I think. Those are the only recent LP ROMs I've tried.

Frank Rom and Rastapop both great 5'0'2 Roms with all latest optimizations like RRO etc
