[HELP} Enabling AWS on Rogers i337M with Android 4.3???? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I am having some issues enabling aws on my rogers i337M. I understand how to do it have have done it many times. But not since the new 4.3 update and cant seem to figure out how to get around it. I know it is possible as It is advertised locally.
I know a simple downgrade rom via odin is not possible as I lose my wifi and signal...
Could anyone help??

Please let me know if this is the right section to be posting!

Canadian (fido) S4 and new ROM install ?

Hi guys, sorry for asking this, I know it is probably mentioned but I have spent the last 2 hours in this forum for various interests, including my galaxy gear and my eyes are hurting right now...lol
So before I attempt something and make a mistake because I missed something, I figured I ask straight to the point...
I am on the latest 4.3 OTA update on my fido S4.
I am interested to possibly flash the Rom to another one that is clean (without all the stock apps) and gain access also to bluetooth tether which is right now not available through fido.
If, this is an option with another ROM (which I am hoping it is)
So is a ROM available ? That can be flashed over the latest update ?
I found some threads but they were referring to already rooted phones etc...I am just not sure where I stand with the latest update, so I would really appreciate some info.
Thanks.
I have a Fido S4 on MDJ(4.2.2). I rooted and unlocked(using RegionLock away). If I flash a newer rom will I see a significant speed difference or performance boost?
Thanks

I'm pretty sure you can not unlock phone using region lock away, but on MDJ you can with secret menu, provided you never updated to mg1. Besides 4.2.2 Fido and before, was not region locked at all.
Maybe now with 4.3 it is. Did not check and can't be bothered looking for European sim card.
To answer main question. No! If you factory reset phone you will, but that's only temporary, which is why newbies keep saying it's faster and better with every firmware.
Sent from my GT-I9505G
I am not the first to claim I unlocked with RegionLock away. I inserted a T-Mobile sim and a Bell sim, and it did not ask for an unlock code. Before I ran RegionLock away, when I inserted a T-Mobile sim, it did ask for unlock code. Also, many people say the secret menu unlock doesn't work for Fido and/or screws up something.
Oh, what's that formula for POST COUNTS and NEWBIES again?
Hey guys, checking in again...
Sorry for the question, don't want to be flamed but there are A LOT of posts about different versions and I really do not want to screw up.
So :
Canadian fido S4 on 4.3 over the air update. Can I still root ? Possible link to the correct method ?
Any ROM available that is clean and would re activate BT tethering ? Link if any ?
Sorry guys, I am not lazy, just dizzy reading all the threads and trying to short them out between versions...
A mistake would put me in worse situation and 2 simple answers from anyone that knows would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again.

To be honest... I don't think it is possible on 4.3 not for free anyhow... limited service is probably because you started out with MK6 modem right? If you really want to unlock it.... try one of the web services talked about in the s4 forum or take it to one of those places in the mall.... they usually charge about $20.... you can pooch the phone if you do it wrong or so they say in lots of the unlock threads....
Besides, the MDL / MK2 type unlocks are for the AT&T versions of the phone (i337), not the Bell Canadian version (i337m).
To do the unlock, I recommend CellUnlocker.net - it cost me 25 USD (now worth about 30 CAD), but they got me the code in a couple of hours, and I plugged it in no problem using a non-Rogers sim.
Am wondering maybe i can use a radio i can flash it with it unlock it and then flash the stock radio rom.
i have did this before on the SGH 2 long time ago.
i remember i had tp downgrade to ICS then flash the custom radio than do the ##0011# trick .
not sure why we cant do this here ????? i can flash another rom on the device i dont see why not i have rooted and TWRP installed on it so its ready for some changes .
Thanks for the advise about the (mall/cellunlock) i might use it as the last resource but for now am playing with this phone i have to figure it out i guess its kinda challenge.

I have the exact same phone. I was able to SIM unlock on 4.2.2 using this video, and flash the modem to enable the AWS frequency for Wind and such. Though this was back with the MDJ modem. I do not think this is possible with the MK6 modem.

[HELP] [Q] No Mobile Data Signal

Hi,
I recently was getting frustrated with the ROM Gummy. ROM GUMMY: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2563973) so i wanted to try something new and never thought i'd get a problem as when i flashed GUMMY it was so simple and everything worked.
However, when i flashed to the ROM S4 Google Edition: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2544474) i noticed my signal / network won't stay connected. It may work for 2mins then disconnect - so i tried another ROM thinking it was caused by the S4 Google Edition.
I'm now currently on KOT49H【4.4.2】Google Play Edition (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2557353) and still getting no signal, only if i keep changing it to automatically find a network.
I've been reading it could do with Modems, or have i really messed something up and won't be able to fix my phone? I'm sort of new to this all so if you could explain more than tell me to do something that would be great.
Phone: Samsung S4 i9505
Baseband Version: i9505DVUBMGG1
Network Provider: GiffGaff (o2 Company)
Any help would be great.

You have to flash a new modem for 4.4 like nb9. If you have a bootloader without knox, flash only the modem.bin file. If you have knox, flash modem and non-HLOS.bin. there's a nice modem thread in the general section.:good:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192025

Cross ROM Flashing

I am trying to find solid answers on this before I do it, but can't find any evidence it will work, and without issue. I just want to gain my T-Mobile wifi calling, and be able to use IPv6, but the ROM that my Note 3 came with, does not allow any of this (APN protocol is perma-greyed out and of course no wifi calling).
So here's what I have: Mexican N900W8
The ROM I want to flash: N900T for T-Mobile. Stock ROM.
Can I just simply use Odin and just flash it without rooting or anything since both are stock ROMs? Or do I still need to root it?
Also, if it will just flash right over, will my phone identify itself as a N900T and get over the air updates for T-Mobile, or will it ID itself as a N900W8 still, and possibly have future update problems?
Lastly, will all the other hardware work fine without issue? Wifi (most important obviously), NFC, etc?
Thanks.
I tried looking for this kind of cross flash but could not find anything whatsoever concrete that re-assures me this will work.
I would really like an answer for this.
Can I cross flash a stock ROM or not, and in this case N900T to N900W8 without any wifi issues?

You can flash 900T ROMS on the W8, however, not via Odin. Has to be done via Custom Recovery and you still have to flash the W8 kernel for it to work. - Essentially yes, You have to root, but I don't think you can get your T-Mobile WiFi calling unless you have an actual N900T.

As radical said, you can flash it using custom recovery.
It will show up as N900T instead of N900W8, but you can change this using "build prop editor" from the Play Store.
You will not get any OTA from T-mobile, custom ROMs don't get official OTAs.
I went and got a N900T then from T-Mobile. Have a N900W8 for sale now.

[Q] installing Tmobile rom to i337

Hi,
Currently I have a i337 galaxy s4 which I am using with tmobile sim card. I made it unlocked by ATT before I switched to tmobile. It has baseband UFNI1 and Android 4.4.2 installed. I managed to get it rooted using the Odin software, so I can use the tethering with the tmobile.
Now I am trying to find a way to use the Wi-Fi calling. I searched it a lot and figured out that I need a tmobile rom installed but it quickly got very confusing. It looks like what you need to do also depends on what android version you are using. For some you need safestrap, change the kernel for some you don't. For some you have Wi-Fi issues and need to change the modem etc.
So, I am trying to find the easiest and safest way that will make the Wi-Fi calling work. I don't necessarily need the very latest android version or the fancy custom roms etc,I only need something that will work without any issues. I am perfectly fine with a tmobile stock Rom if that's the most convenient way.
So,I would really appreciate if someone can help me on this. It would be great to have a set of noob friendly instructions. Thanks a lot.

Hi There,
Were you able to root your device for Wifi Calling. I followed the instructions of http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...nvert-i337-to-m919-wifi-caling-t2896719/page6 and went into the same issue. After TMOBILE stock rom, the phone does not boot. I was able to install the first rom and then able to get onto the latest version and able to use phone again with AT&T latest software update (android 5.0.1). Actually, this is the version I have when I started rooting.
If you find any solution, please let me know as I am on the same boat with you on installing TMOBILE ROM using the other thread.
thanks
Ram
You cannot install a T-Mobile stock ROM to an AT&T device. Samsung has safeguards in place to prevent it. You would need to root and then install a custom ROM, which on an AT&T is difficult to do with its encrypted bootloader.
However, this is not the appropriate location to ask this. Questions related to AT&T devices belong in the AT&T S4 forums.
