Looking for a straight answer on this as I can't get the info in black and white from Google searches .
I have a 2012 Nexus 7.
I may get a Roku 2
Can I play a movie that I have downloaded on my 2012 nexus 7 on the big screen, via the roku?
So say I have .... Alien 3, on my nexus 7 2012, I wanna put that image on the main TV, can the roku 2 accommodate this?
Cheers guys

no you can´t Roku only supports video streaming on IOS...
and the rest is also not possible with the Roku, get a miracast device, that would work better for you!
Chromecast works for me....

Doesn't Chromecast only play movies you have bought from the Play Store? I've made legitimate copies of TV series that I keep on my tablet. The $35 Chromecast is better than a miracast device for the price but only if it can do what I'd like.

You can play any media on your tablet with chrome cast using the app avia or real player cloud.. I use the app show box to download TV shows. Works great...

OK I'll track down a chromecast then if it'll do what I need. I don't have a smart TV yet so at the moment if I'm sat on the sofa and download a movie on the nexus7 I have to go hooking up the 7 to a laptop to transfer file to that, then HDMI from that to TV and its a bit of a pain at times lol
I thought the roku supported what I'm trying to do from another bunch of stuff I stumbled on through Google searches see but, I'll go chromecast

You can push media to the Roku using an app called Juice for Roku. It's on the Playstore and on the Roku side you use:
owner.roku.com/add/juice
...to install the app on to the Roku.
One of these may have a one-time fee associated with it.

Checkout BubbleUPnP in the Google Play market. BubbleUPnP is certified DNLA software that allows your Nexus 7 to stream to other DNLA devices like the PS3 and Xbox over your WiFi network.
Have fun!

The Xbox isn't DLNA certified, it uses a Mircosoft proprietary version, which is why it sucks badly in format support compared to the PS3.
http://www.dlna.org/consumer-home/look-for-dlna/product-search
Only the PS3 has DLNA certification.
http://certification.dlna.org/certs/REG05758621.pdf
http://certification.dlna.org/certs/REG06804606(1).pdf
This is correct and as indicated it's BubbleUPnP that is DNLA certified.
That being said, BubbleUPnP does a decent job streaming to my Xbox from my Rezound and Nexus 7.
Have fun!

How is the image quality/resolution of the movies from the Play Store?
Is there a better source for HD movies, either rental or buy?
It doesn't look like Amazon will suport the N10, correct?
Is Ultraviolet any good?

The play store movies and videos offer very good image quality and have recently been optimized for the nexus 10's high resolution display. Google plays video quality is high enough as it is but 1080p Blurays might offer you better quality. Amazon doesn't seem to support it now but it may in the future, you could always download the video then use a video converter such as handbrake to convert it for the nexus 10. Ultraviolet is so-so it's not as mature or perfected as Netflix or Amazon instant videos and many people I know have had bad experiences with it.

Looks like Ice Age HD is included with our Nexus 10. So far the quality for this movie really looks good. Can't complain.
Has anyone tried amazon instant video streaming appon nexus 10?

I tried using the app from the link below. It opens up but crashes when I try to watch a movie. I tried signing on through the browser but it didn't help. I should say that I don't have prime yet. I'm thinking on buying it if I can use it on my nexus 10.

I don't think steaming works yet, but you could download the videos Amazon offers then convert them to play on the nexus 10. Also the app you mentioned hasn't been updated to work with jelly bean which would probably explain the force closes your getting.

If you run a plex media server on a desktop, you can add an amazon instant video channel and then watch it from your plex app on your tablet.

Thank you very much guys! I still don't understand why amazon won't make an app for android. it should be easier than releasing one for iOS.
Is there anyway way at all to mirror out to a tv? I want to see what's on my nexus on my TV. I have been reading for almost 3 hours doesn't look like you can. Please help. I know Samsung cords dont work because n7 doesn't support mhl at all, miracast probably won't happen to us at least any time soon, nexus q will only stream your videos and not mirror whats on ur screen, and there's some thing pi rasp idk exactly what's its called. Is there anything that works? Sorry there's probably a thread about this I scrolled down for 10 mins and didn't find one. I will update my first post with any findings to help anyone easier.
Thanks everyone!

this is the only way i know of so far

too much trouble for me to do though
There is if you have an AppleTV, it's called AppleTV Air Play Media Player by Zappotv and it's in the Google Play Store. It's pretty cool it uses Apple's Air Play protocol to send your Nexus screen's picture or video to your big screen TV.

Hi guys just a questiom. I wish to use my nexus 7 as a media server for my ps3. I currently use bubbleupnp but whilst playing audio, the song cuts in and out.
Is there some kind of configuration I am missing? Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks

HA! I wish it was possible but no it can't be done.

Would like to show me how you're able to connect the n7 to the ps3? i want to try it out and see if I can fix the issue.
Well I use the app called bubbleupnp on the play store. As soon as you launch the app it acts as a media server. My ps3 and my xperia s and my laptop can connect to the n7. And stream view pics and music

Besides BubbleUPnP I've used UPnPlay, iMediaShare and Air Play to stream movies to the PS3.
Thanks. I'm gonna try that when i get home.

So I'm intrigued with the miracast dongles but I don't want to spend a fortune on it. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with them. Also hoping to not spend more than $40 on it. I'm running the Nexus 5 Experience which is CM11 and it seems to support it.
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Chromecast dongle. $35. Allcast from Koush and a Chromecast dongle. I can show pictures and movies from my phone.

From what I understand is that Chromecast won't let me mirror my phone to the TV which is what I'm looking for. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Allcast allows you to do just that. Also, I think there's an app called mirror also by Koush that allows you to stream that onto an apple tv

Could you please explain how to mirror your android phone to the TV like a miracast dongle would. I purchased a chromecast and so far I am unsuccessful in mirroring whatever is on my phone to the TV. I looked up the Koush beta and it only works for the NEXUS 5...
You can't mirror at this point. But you can play videos and music from your device and stream them to your TV. Koush working on mirroring for all devices.
You can also use Allcast to stream to any dnla device like Roku, XBox PS4.
