So i was annoyed by mymagazine being only 1 swipe away and being accessed by the double tapping home button. So i turned off the home button setting and then then turned off my magazine. it wasnt an issue but i ended up just rooting my phone and then uninstalled all the bloat apps....including mymagazine.
Now when ever i double tap the home button my TouchWiz crashes. however, if i swipe up, it just goes to the play store and says item cannot be found.
i really hope that we get some way to swap out the my magazine for google now or something useful. anyone know a work around that doesnt involve a different launcher??

I am having the same issue - hitting home button when on my homescreen causes TouchWiz to crash. Did you ever figure anything out?
If you uninstall my magazine or freeze it, tw will fc. It's tied I to the framework of touchwiz, either use a different launcher or reinstall/unfreeze my magazine

This might be a dumb question but If i use a different launcher other than TouchWiz will the s pen functions still work? Also, playstore doesn't have MyMagazine. Do i just need to install the apk if i want to keep using touchwiz? (very new to root)
thanks
Yup will still work - you'll probably find the mymagazine.apk around somewhere

still stuck :\
When i try to install MagazineHome.apk i keep getting "Application not installed".
If i try to install it with Rom Toolbox APK installer it just says installing then goes away as if nothing happened.
I was reading on a few other threads but am quite confused. What is this term Push(ed) being thrown around.

You can push/side load via adb or cut n paste it into system apps and set correct permissions - not done it since I had my HTC one so not sure if it is different on the Note, just grab Nova launcher can customise as much as you want and have no fc and no mymagazine

Can't stand that annoying Voice Command app that pops up whenever you accidently double-tap the home button? Well, apparently it can be removed if you have ICS, though not the typical way.
Thanks goes out to Marrr over at AF for pointing this out.
Step 1: Install Go Launcher
Step 2: Long-press voice command in the app drawer, and when the red "x" comes up, hit it. Follow the prompt and the app will be completely uninstalled.
Step 3: Uninstall Go Launcher if you want (and delete the Go Launcher/Store folders it created in your USB storage).
It really is THAT simple!
Or just don't double tap the Home button
In a year of owning a Galaxy SII I can't say I've every double tapped the Home button by mistake

It's weird, but lately, occasionally when I hit the home button the app would just launch. It's like the device was registering a double-tap. Not sure if it was me, or a hardware issue. Either way, it was annoying and I've seen a few others complain about the same issue.
If you're not affected, then you're set. But if you are, this seems to work wonders.

I agree, I never experienced the issue and laugh when I see people complain.
I know multiple people with the S2 and none of them experience.
I admit, maybe it may be hardware; but I would think if it was hardware it would be on a larger scale. I personally think people don't realise they double tapped it.

And I laugh when I see someone who assumes that because their phone works perfectly, everyone else must have a perfect phone too.
Does this remove the double tap delay though? Always drove me mad about gs2, and I've always got rid of it as soon as I can

I agree....it is annoying. It comes up all the time when I don't want to. Anyone know the name that is appears in Titanium Backup so I can remove it?
Voice command. Just filter for "vlingo"
i have a hardware problem, when i press home button, like 30% of time the voice command will appear, but i dont want to uninstall the app, there is any other way for disabling it?

Boys install system app remover, no need for root, and uninst apps u don't need. Quicker, safer, legal ,
i had the same issue (about 30% of erroneous voice command starts). i had frozen
the app with Titanium Backup and since then had about 30% of keypress failures.
Is there a program that shows if there was a keypress or not?
Thanks for a nice tip, that voice is useless in Russia anyway.
BTW, I also can unistall readers hub in that way, why it allows me to unistall it, but I cant unistall music hub, they're seems to be both system apps.
ES File Explorer can also uninstall it.
Select the App Manager then long press on the app you want to remove, eg Voice Commamd, choose uninstall, and its gone.

I don't have the problem because I fixed it.
Search for root app uninstaller, install it, and find voice talk, or viingo as it is called, and uninstall the app, so uninstall root app installer so you can't launch it by a mistake and double tap and see what's happening, now nothing happens when I double tap home button, so it's fixed.
I hope I can help other people.
Its the most frustrating app ever even more frustrating than Touchwiz. Its like whenever I press the home button around 80% of chances are that it would pop up with that annoying voice,"What would you like to do ?"
And I'm like GTFO off my device. Finally removed it using Root Explorer forever after...

Thank you very much. Just to say so I went through that buttcracking process of making like my millionth forum account, but that one was worth it. Thx a bunch, I really have a device where pressing home leads you to the voice crap in 99,456%. Now its finally fallen off board. Thx again.
removing voice command easier
you don't have to change a theme or anything like that. you should download "Smart App Protector Free" and and in the apps section inside the app scroll down until you get to "voice command". click on it and choose uninstall. that easy
You can also use system app uninstaller from the market, just go into regular apps and remove voice command.

This is an outdated thread. You can now disable the app.
I've been experiencing this quite a lot
Surfing the net pressing home button and find the home screen reloads. So bit of a lag which is very annoying, until samsung sort this out with a software update there is a work around. Simply disable s-voice from.settings that's it. I haven't actually experienced screen reload since.
Let me know if this works for you or not.
Try this
Untick under s-voice settings the following:
Launch S Voice
Wake up command
Under application manager go to running select s-voice and stop all services.
Go to all and disable s-voice. This will remove the app from app draw list too, you can also disable chat on app too.
This should stop the app running in the background.
My mate has got this phone has has also experienced this problem a bit as well.
I was just wondering when you say 'disable s voice' do you just mean just disable s voice opening when double pressing the home button? Or is there a setting to actually turn it off?

I would also like to know this. I stopped s voice opening when I double tap home button. That fixed the home button lag, however, I'm still experiencing the ocassional reload of the home screens.

Another nice side effect is it makes the phone feel alot snappier because it removes the home button lag.
EDIT: should have refreshed the thread :/ mattyt_491 was faster.. I don't think there is a way to disable it completely (without rooting) I didn't have any reloads since I disabled the double click. Then again I restarted the phone and it usually takes half a day or so to start happening..

Guys don't get frustrated. As per thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1694508&page=3, just set the size of dalvik cache to 128MB and everything will be fine. My personal experience, just perform these two extra steps:
1. Use Nova Launcher or Apex, takes less memory
2. Use 2D rendering from developer options, It does not make it slow at all.
3. From developer option, limit background processes to 4. Trust me you will not notice it.
4. And yes, disable S voice after you are done with initial experiment. Its not useful for anything.
And my phone is working snappier as it was when I opened the box. I will update it after few day's use. Running smoothly for 2 days. Today is third.

I'm having the same problem.
Is rooting the phone and making these adjustments the only solution to this issue?
Switching off S-voice did work temporarily, but the problem has returned.
I'm new to andorid having just switched over from the dark side of iOS. Is Samsung likely to fix this in a coming update?
I find it hard to believe they didn't spot this in pre-testing the phone.

I don't have any use for Google Now nor do I use the built-in Google search function and I'm trying to find a way to remove the shortcut thing that pops up when I long-press the home button on the navigation bar. It's actually infuriating the amount of times I pull it up by mistake.
I am running Paranoid Android 2.5 ROM and the navigation bar options specifically states that the home button shortcut can not be changed in those options like the back/recent/menu buttons can.
I have deleted the googlequicksearchbar.apk from the system apps folder and that at least causes it to just bork up and stops it trying to load everything up when I end up selecting Google Now by mistake but it's still a pain in the ass to have that shortcut there.
I've searched around and the only things I found covering this were disabling it on the lockscreen which is different from what I am trying to achieve.
Has anyone had any success on the PA ROM in regards to removing the Google Now shortcut from the Home button?

Which google app is that? There is no Velvet.apk to be found and there's nothing in Titanium Backup's list that I can see that looks like it would be that either. I see google voice search and google search. The latter which is no longer present as I deleted the searchbox apk already.

I've manged to get Google now off the Nexus 7
After hours fiddling I found the answerr
You go into settings, click on app, and then scroll to the reach 'all'
You will see Google Search open it and hit all buttons which cut the cache and another 2 buttons which I d'ont remeber. Anyway click all the buttons there.
Then you will find that where the google search box was there is now a grey block in its place.
Close down the phone, and when you turn it on again the grey box is gone your sexy home page is back!
I really don't undertand the minds of Google Now. The annoying pop notes never told me nothing I needed to know. Google should at least give an easy option to turn the thing off. I fed with things being installed in phones which you can't deleat.
To those wanting to disable search, that's ok, it is your tablet and you can do with it as you like. But, is it really so hard to not hold down the home button? I use search every day multiple times and find it extremely useful. You can turn off any or all cards and even turn off Now and you get the search screen without any cards. If you gave it a fair try you might fine it useful. Others have posted how to disable it, so the OP has his question answered, but I encourage people to learn and use search.
I disable it because I use my nexus for gaming. So I like it keep my background processes to a minimum. I can only assume others do it for much the same reason. If you don't use it why have it running?

You can kinds of disable it using SwipeLaunch Disabler.
https:/play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hk.sld.SwipeLaunchDisabler
Go to settings, apps, all, scroll down to Google+ and disable it.
That will just show the "old google search" when you use the home button.
If you want it back go to playstore search Google+ and enable it.
My question is, is there a way to add shortcuts to that menu?
Maybe replace it with this: Home Button Launcher
You can add shortcuts and it's Open Source.

I'm using Paranoid Android v2.50 on my Samsung GS3... I found it irritating that sometimes I would hit the "menu" button too long on my phone by accident (normally when it was in landscape view) and that would bring up the Google Search page every time... here is what to do:
1) Head to "Settings" > "Interface" > "System" > "Hardware keys"
2) Tick "Enable custom actions", the options below will light up for you to edit.
3a) In my case, I had to edit "Menu key (long press)" and set it to "No action"
3b) In your case it would be "Home key (long press)" and then set that to "No action".
That will stop the Google Search feature popping up when you accidentally hold the button down too long

I think that is okay to learn how to use it, but for me it is a bit annoying everytime I play MinecraftPE. The proximity of down button and home button is so close that I always end up presing home button then search pops out. I am on stock rom 4.1.1 device with soft keys and notification all bundled up.
Hi, im running xnote v8 and was wondering, if there is anything available wether as an add on, wanam module or root app or an in rom tweak that can shorten the delay between when holding the home button to bring up the recent apps as I find it too long even on stock touchwiz.

the reason there is delay when you press home button, is because system is waiting to see if it's double press to bring up voice command screen. There is a menu where you can disable double click and that should make wait much shorter, but I can't remember which menu is it ATM. This works on stock, I can't help with custom software.
Look in the Play store for Switcher. You can swipe from the bottom, left or right side of screen to open recent apps.

just install nova launcher or go launcher ex and create a gesture, one or two fingers sliding up to show the recent apps. a lot more convenient and quicker to access recents.

Hey guys. Just wanted to bring up an issue I have had with my phone. Anytime I install a new launcher I have the same issue. When pressing the "Home" button my phone constantly (80% of the time) asks me which launcher I want to use, Touchwiz or (currently) Aviate. Eventhough I select Aviate > Always. It still does this to me. Even if I uninstall the app it still pops up and asks "TouchWiz or TouchWiz Easy" and it continues to do this until I factory reset my phone. Which is a pain. Has anyone else had this issue?
