[Q] wondering why samsung haven't made changes - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I'm just wondering if anyone knows why samsung hasn't made small changes to the UI on touchwiz/n9005.
One of the things I missed most was my blue toggles and status bar with circle battery on my ultimate jellybean v5 on the n7000 (admittedly nothing amazing but a personal fav). It seems to me that developers have a trend of taking firmware, adding small theme changes and additional features that essentially everyone prefers and only improves the experience, yet samsung still haven't taken it upon themselves to ditch the lime green toggles.
Why can't they see that some things need to be done for the consumer and not there own uniformity. I understand the whole they don't want people to root etc, and tbh I'm too scared too as it is as I couldn't replace my n9005 as I did with the original note... yet
Can anyone shed any light on the stubborn attitude?
Thanks
Danny

TouchWiz UX on Galaxy Tab 10.1

*UPDATE*
I have updated my thread in development with a download and guide for installing TouchWiz UX on our Tab 10.1's.
See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15516290#
Okay this is getting ridiculous...!
Currently there is a TouchWiz UX rom avaliable for...
Asus EeePad:
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile...ouchwiz-rom-port-on-asus-eee-pad-transformer/
Acer A500:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1143368
Tab 10.1v:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155023
All of which appear to be based off a 3.1 Rom for OUR device... So why is it I can't find a single thing about installing 3.1 TouchWiz UX on OUR 10.1!?
i feel you brother this is crazy no devs i guess on the 10.1 i need to start going to school and learn my self lol
That's okay. I'm pretty meh regarding TouchWiz. Has kept me away from sammy phones. I know, ROMS, but when you lean over the bleeding edge, there are no ROMS.
Just saw this video that shows all the features of touchwiz. I don't care how much people want to know it. If half the stffntheynjust showed works without force closing I'll beeee soooool stoked. It impressed the pants off me. http://youtu.be/hlLP3RXkmUQ
" hang on to your dookie, its about to get spooky "
Yay! Managed to get it booting on my tab.
I've been using it about 15 minutes and I love it! The book reader is great... I love the bounce scrolling and the new colours are very nice. Everything has a better feel and still seems super fast.
I might get some instructions up tomorrow for how I did it. Bed time for me now though.
The thing I want to know is if it has improved video playback.

I'm looking forward to the Allshare app, official DLNA support, the Media hub, and the mini app tray/bar.
It definitely adds another level to the tablet and will impress many consumers. I haven't actually owned anything Samsung beside cameras but I'm impressed so far with this tablet.

Logically the 10.1v rom should not be hard porting, but i havent looked into it.

oh really? not hard?
without 3.1 kernel source code...
I have a 3G Galaxy Tab 10.1 with Touchwiz (sold in Sweden).
While I don't mind some of the apps that Touchwiz brings I hate their OS-wide changes, while iOS-style overscrolling doesn't really change anything their altering of default UI element does. They have changed buttons, dialogs, menus, fonts and more making many applications look odd as they don't have the same design as Samsungs own apps.
They have also changed they background of the status bar so when it is in "light out" mode it is still very noticeable (default is completely black, Samsung is grey with a light border on top). This is very annoying when watching movies!
All in all I rather be without Touchwiz.
It's only a theme - it'll be customizable at some point

My only annoyance with TouchWiz UX so for is that it has that gray bar at the bottom rather than black... I get that it fits there theme but black still blends in the the tablet better... We'll be able to change that later though once the rom is deodex..
Aside from that I love all the other changes. Everything just looks more 'styled' and less 'neon' which I love.
Their eBook application is the best app I've ever used on Android.. except maybe Tasker..
Social Hub app is a great Twitter/Facebook integration.
Their widgets are very cool except they seem to slow down the homescreen a tad due to their large size (don't worry! you can always remove them )
The mini apps are so very cool. You can bring up a little calculator/note taking app/calendar/and more and move it to the side of the screen and keep interacting with whatever app you're running under it while it stays on the screen! Awesome feature that Google should definitely look at adding.
Copy and Paste now has a large clipboard that you can build up multiple items on!
There are even problems in Honeycomb 3.1 that are now fixed
e.g. In 3.1 stock if you want to change your lockscreen wallpaper to a custom image from your gallery you had to go to settings> display>screen settings>lockscreen wallpaper now you can do it from the top-right Plus or long-press home screen
The browser is actually smoother and handles pinch gestures much better and has some cool new features you can enable in settings.
There is motion control like tilting your tablet to change homescreens when placing a widget
The quick control toggles are much faster and to get into Settings is now only 2 taps rather than 3.. another thing Honeycomb should have had from the start.
And much more things that I'm missing... This is definitely an upgrade.
I'm uploading a rom now and will update my Thread in development when it's uploaded so everyone can flash TouchWiz UX.

The 10.1v rom is actually a port of a rom from OUR device... It's a bit silly to port a port from our device back to it...
Update with Download and Guide
Hey I have updated my Development post with a download and guide for flashing TouchWiz to our Tab's... Check here:

Any update on when touchwiz will officially be released for us? I know Samsung set the hard date of "coming soon", but I didn't know if there was any further update.
The screenshot button is useless and gets in the way. If the screenshot app was combined with the note app it would be great. You would pop up the notes and annotate whatever is on the screen and save it all.
why is everything so fricken big? I dont see the reasoning behind all the text being like 90pt font...

Update with a new look

I don't own this device but i did just see this video come up in my subscriptions going over a "never before seen" update that completely changes the interface http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZoh_QKnGbc
Thanks a lot! Its really neat! Oppo said that we will have something big soon. Hopefully this is it.

Well, it's still not "spectacular". Icons are still iPhone-ish, the Settings menu is still a mess...
I should contact Oppo and offer them to do some better concepts for a few bucks.

with the new update. you will be able to change icon packs easily. they are introducing there own "theme store"
excited to see what they are doing
with the new update they sent out yesterday, they updated the lock screen with a new version! so slick. i love it!
Some interesting things in the video. This is not Oppo specific, but I have to say that all this stuff the vendors are doing with software are just kind of... meh.

I mean seriously, how many screen, menu transitions do we need. Some of us could give two s$*ts about snow building up on an icon...
Give me SOLID bluetooth to headset performance for 3 hour meetings.
Give me an amazing email client for enterprise messaging systems.
I'd like a bigger sensor for the love of God! 13 megapixels isn't worth diddly if the sensor is crap... and they all are. Thinking you can replace a camera with a phone right now is a serious flaw in logic.
Improve on signal strength and antenna design for better signal in suspect areas.

I really am leaning toward getting the Black international 32GB version. The level of 'real' updates, improving performance and fixing issues, is impressive thus far. I can change the UI by installing the homescreen app of my choosing, so leave this stuff for later please

Still, the Camera app is super basic and looks like apps we did 2 years ago, the Settings menu is totally disorganized, the contacts app is everything but cool like Android 4.0 stock Contacts app, etc...
There's a point where theming cannot just cover everything. Ok for the icons, but the apps stay the same, experience stays the same. How are they going to bring 4.2's lockscreen widgets? Quick settings? They update their current design without planning features released a few months ago, and god knows users are angry when you don't update their favorite handset to the latest OS version -- especially knowing the next Android version comes in less than a month now.
Now, you can perfectly live happy with it, that's just my opinion ^^ I love enhanced user experience, and Oppo firmware just looks like a step back to me compared to stock 4.2, half-way between Gingerbread and ICS.
If I have some time, I'll do a mockup or two for an UI Oppo-style, but with 4.2 experience.

Miui related

Hello everyone my s4 is arriving tomorrow and I will be saying goodbye to my s3. I have always been with Samsung including s1 s2 s3 and galaxy nexus and with all cases I have used the miui firmware. now when my bar of gold arrives I want to use miui with that also however I don't want to lose the features ie gesture controls, smart stay etc and the health apps.
would someone be able to point me to the right direction in terms of miui Rom and be able to shed some light on gs4 apps included if so I would be eternally grateful

Resurrecting the spark Galaxy S5 somehow lost

I feel like my phone got extremely boring and harsh to use day to day, it lacks the initial freshness and stuff like that, it just isn't so fly like it was a few weeks ago. I was wondering if someone could bring up some root tweaks to refresh the user experience, possibly without losing the original rom

You could try installing Xposed installer, it has some nice modules to add looks and fuctionality to the phone.
First, thank you for your quick response.
I already have Wanam and squashed every fancy bit out of it, but it just doesn't feel so alive even through it looks at it best. I would apprecciate if someone could acknowledge some tweaks that can do things like gesture swiping between multitasked applications, like in chrome for android and its tabs, or as it was on old iPhones with some tweaks from Cydia.
I feel the same way too. Unfortunately, the phone really was well made and Android has come a long way. There aren't many things to really mod.
Even the kernels aren't important as much because the battery life is far superior to previous Samsung phones.
The only reason I use a custom kernel is for the fast charge.
A potential bug for installing xposed is S Health not working(can work through build prop edit ) and air gestures not working at all.
Air gestures work well with mine, i thought something should be worked out with the basic framework, like they did with the volume panel when you increase or decrease the volume, it moves smoothly now, not in small cut steps like on previous firmwares. Small bits like that add to the experience and when they are composed good, it can turn out very well. Aah if i could work in some UI development..
I love that you came up with this thread! I have been feeling the same way. Got everything pretty close to how I like it between rooting and many xposed mods. Don't really want to accept that maybe I don't need to constantly be on XDA finding new tweaks to try. I guess with my previous S3 I got so used to all the custom roms I could play with that would each feel a little different. I think a big problem with the xposed mods is that once you have found and used them they are pretty much always available whatever ROM you use as long as you have root. Once you have found that particular module and enjoyed its unique abilities it becomes an expected part of your experience from then on. And now most of them can do almost all the same things as the most feature rich custom Roms. Thankfully it looks like CM is finally starting to roll out for the S5 and hopefully the usual suspects and some surprise Roms will pop up. Unfortunately I've already played with almost all of the CM11 based ones on my S3 already so I think there will not be a whole lot of freshness there. Oh poor me! Bring on Android L!
Tapped It!
I hope something will be done with system physics and touch picking behaviour, i love Android and would love it to have the same feel like iPhone when scrolling etc. Try it and you will know what i mean. And i know it is very possible even with an open OS like Android so shut up and develop the fresh out of it.

[Q] G900f aosp with some TW features (possible)?

Hey guys..
I would like to ask you about an aosp rom with samsung futures.. cause i hate touchwiz.. the settings.. the statusbar and everything.. I have been searching for a long time but could not find anything about such roms.
So my question is: Is it possible to take a rom like CM 12 and add featuers like the power saving mode of TW or a fingerprintscanner support for that rom... Would be great to hear about a rom like that
Greetings.

No. Closed source makes it difficult. Personally I find touchwiz sufficient and can't wait for lollipop.
But couldn't anyone take the priv apps and port then for cm and add a setting for the priv apps then or something ?
And lollipop will be great... but much will be white.. they take a amoled display and then they do everything in white ?! Thats dumb...

And the entire set of framework code that will go with it
There's a reason no one has done it in the years that aosp and touchwiz custom ROMs have been around
Mods generally are written from scratch in aosp ROMs

If it were that simple I would do it myself, your only hope is a google play edition but I reckon even if we get one it won't have a fingerprint sensor. And I don't really believe the whole black is better battery thing. I mean sure pixels off is but a lot of the time we actually get pixels showing a dark shade rather than off. You would have to spend a lot of time in settings or sms to care is what I'm saying. Plus if anything like my nexus 7 lollipop will improve battery and counteract this. But samsung may screw it up, pray that they don't cos kitkat got it right and made touchwiz an artistic and useful interface. White is used because its more pleasing to the eye than that bluey grey thing they got going on
Just sad... but thanks for your answers..
If there would only be a fingerprint scanner support i would even be happy.. but sad if its not poosible/too hard
