I rooted my Moto G (Android 4.3, german) with your video and all works fine.
But just in the moment, there come a message that I could upgrade to version 4.4. This I have done. However, the update process does not work. CWM will always report that the file is not signed. If I want to install them nevertheless, it aborts with an file error. Unfortunately, my phone now reboots after each start and tried to install the update. I need help! What can I do?

you can fastboot restore the device to 4.4.2 to get it updated or just install a rom like CM11 which is based on 4.4.2

What makes more sense for the future? Do I need to do anything complicated each time I update the original operating system?
If so, then I switch to CM.
I cannot install cm, because I have no chance to download the zip file. My phone constantly performs a reboot.
How can I fastboot restore the device to 4.4.2? Is there a way without lock the phone again? In your unbrick video you used a batch-file named "Restore US-retail_XT1032_KXB20.9-1.8-1.4_CFC.bat". Can I use the file also for german phones?
Excuse the newbie questions. I always try to study a new subject until I can properly understand it. Your videos are ideal for this.

Just had not seen that unlocking the bootloader erases all data on the phone.
And this same method will work for the Boost CDMA version?

Check the twrp recovery install video it should have the root in it. Once the bootloader is unlocked just install twrp then flash supersu.zip in recovery to get root. It's pretty easy.

So what if you want to move from 4.4 to 4.4.2 from an ATT, rooted, non Dev, non custom recovery moto x? I was under the impression using this boot loader unlock method only worked for Dev editions..

You are correct. Bootloader unlock method only works for Dev Editions, and phones from T-Mobile, Sprint and other carriers where Moto gives out bootloader unlock codes. If you have an ATT or Verizon retail or Moto Maker X, and were not lucky enough to buy an unlock code from the Chinese seller (before it got shut down), you can not unlock your bootloader and use TWRP to root.
If you have a LOCKED (and not unlockable) bootloader, like ATT/Verizon, and you are on rooted 4.4 using SlapMyMoto and disabled write protection by using MotoWpNoMo, taking the 4.4.2 OTA update will revert the effects of MotoWpNoMo, patch the exploit used, and write protection will become re-enabled. You will likely keep root, but with write protection enabled, any changes you make to /system or the other protected folders will be lost at power off/on, making root less useful. Since 4.4.2 also patches the exploit used to gain root, if you hadn't rooted before taking 4.4.2, you wont be able to root it once its on your phone.
HOWEVER... If you are rooted & write protection disabled with 4.4, you could consider using SafeStrap with 4.4.2. I don't know how well it works (I have a Dev Edition, so I haven't tried it), but it is an option for using 4.4.2

WARNING!!! I am in no way responsible if you brick your device there is always a chance of bricking your phone
this guide has been done by me i have a rooted moto x with 4.4.2 kitkat its just a regular phone from U.S. cellular its not a developer phone or a unlocked version
make sure you have usb debugging on an the drivers installed for the phone u can get them here
https://motorola-glo...tail/a_id/88481
1. unlock your bootloader at this link
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a
2. after you unlock it download an extract these to a folder then run the installer.bat file with your device connected to the computer follow the installer it will then reboot into the bootloader an flash twrp recovery
http://www.mediafire.com/download/ciwprhztjmyen3s/USC_XT1055_4.4.2.rar
[there is also the 4.4.2 firmware with an installer included with this download just in case if the phone gets bricked just run the USC_XT1055_4.4.2-KXA20.16-1.27_CFC_1FF.xml.bat file an it will reflash the phone]
3. ( i then went to the backup menu of twrp an made a back up ) optional
3. after it is done with the backup goto the reboot menu an select reboot system
4 it will ask if you want to install Su (this is the root file) select yes
5. it will reboot then download root checker an see if it worked ( u may have to download a SUuser app from the market )

Thank you for the guide, but just to clarify.. There are no versions that SHIP with an unlocked bootloader. All phones ship with their bootloaders locked. The Developer Editions, and some carrier editions (like T-Mobile, Sprint, US Cellular, Rogers Wireless, and others) can have their bootloaders unlocked by requesting the code from Moto's web site.
And even your Step 1 has you request the bootloader unlock code from Moto's web site and use it.
Just keep in mind, that completing the request process on Moto's web site voids your phone's warranty, unless you have a Developer Edition.
Once you get the code and unlock the bootloader, the Dev Edtion, Carrier Editions, Moto Maker Editions, all act the same... you can flash custom recovery, root, flash 3rd party roms, etc.
There are some carriers, like ATT, Verizon, Republic Wireless, where the carrier doesn't allow Moto to give out the unlock codes. (Exception being the Developer Edition for Verizon).

You are either entering the unlock data wrong, or you need to try a different browser. You are using the USA moto unlock site, right?

Worked like a charm. I had forgotten to take out spaces from my unlock data. Hence your device cannot be unlocked message.
Also your bat file didn't do anything. It always gave success and when I fastboooted and selected recovery, it always went into No Command mode.
I had to download mfastboot.exe and then it worked via cmd.
Thanks for the post anyways. It made me finally jump in and root my phone.

I believe you just need to have a little more patience.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.motorola.audiomonitor
Description
Touchless Control is now Moto Voice.
Do more using just your voice.
Without touching your smartphone at all, you can get directions, set an alarm or pretty much anything—just by talking. Moto Voice is always ready. Say “Do I need an umbrella?” and it gives you the weather. Tell it you’re going home, and Moto Voice will get you there. Say "Find your phone" for your phone to make it ring so you can track it down.
On your new Moto X (2nd generation), there’s even more:
To make Moto Voice more personal to you, create your own launch phrase, like “Hello Moto X” and teach it your voice. Say “Play Beethoven on YouTube” to play music videos on YouTube. You can also interact with your favorite apps like Facebook and WhatsApp with your voice.
For Moto X (1st generation), Droid Maxx, Droid Mini, and Droid Ultra users, stay tuned for updates to Moto Voice / Touchless Control soon.
Languages supported: U.S. English, U.K. English, Australian English, India English, Canadian French, Belgium French, French, Italian, German, U.S. Spanish, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese.

Hi
Thanks for the guide, I faced a issue so I am updating here if anyone else have the same issue.
Remove the line "fastboot reboot" in bat file before running, as it will reboot the phone in normal boot & then you will not be able to boot again in TWRP. After many attempt & forum reading I found that after flashing of TWRP device should not boot in normal boot firsttime. So after running the scrpit, the recovery will flash in 5-10 sec. From that screen itself select recovery & directly boot into TWRP. After that reboot from TWRP, it will ask you to install root.
Hello everyone just got the new g4 play phone. Seems nice so far. Just wondering about root and firmware? Do any of the file factory images work? Also is root working? Thanks in advance!

Depends on how you purchased it. If it's from Amazon with ads enabled, you're out of luck for the time being until one of the temp root methods find an exploit for the phone.
If you bought the normal version, then a TWRP version that works for your phone is in the works, and SuperSU works on pretty much any device with a custom bootloader because it's just sticking a su binary on the system partition and installing an app. Custom roms will be forthcoming when more of the developing-inclined members get their bootloaders unlocked lol

That's excellent news! I'm very close to talking moto into giving me a bootloader unlock despite having the Amazon ads. I basically complained that they are misleading people with the name "play" and advertising a pure Android experience making it seem like a true play edition phone, so knowing that I'll be able to root without compiling my own TWRP myself is great news.
Sent from my Moto G Play using XDA Labs
Yes I followed squids twrp post and the twrp fix and works great. Now I may play with the filefactory images and see if one works with this variant. I'm sure a bell specific variant will come soon.
Hello Guys,I have Successfully rooted my motorola droid turbo su4tl-49 without using sunshine or moforoot.I did by first using vroot then iroot then kingoroot then atlast i tried kingroot apk downloaded from kingroot. In 3rd attempt my cell phone was rooted successfully.
I have rooted set.Can i install xposed framework in it without unbricking it?
Can i also unlock its bootloader?
I am able to delete system files like verizon cloud app ,amazon kindle etc.
It doesnot work if you will use directly kingroot, you must try all these app first.i tried this on two turbo sets
Whoever wants to know step by step i can guide you how to root this.root fix occur every time by kingroot but remains rooted.
I have not installed adaway or xposed or twrp i dont want to be brick.need help to do this
I tried this on 2 turbo still result the same.its because i used many exploits .
I can give proof and can live explain to me if someone wants proof i can show i am not lying.u can send me your whatsapp or imo contact,i will show you rooting it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBEa9Q__AeM&feature=youtu.be
Please watch this video as a voice recording how i did this
And when you reboot, it's still rooted? It's not hard to have temp root but doesn't do any good since you can't really write to system to make changes.
With unlocked bootloader you can have permanent root.
Excuse us for being very skeptical.

You still haven't convinced us it's permanent root that can make permanent changes to system. Install Adaway. Install Xposed and modules. Install TWRP custom recovery so you can flash zipped files. Install SuperSu. Do that and report back to us.

Either something is rerunning a temproot each time, or he has a device that for some reason has no write protection (engineering device, already unlocked or bad flash controller).
If the first one, its not going to last with the mm patch, nor would it remain stable. Many things will just break.
If the second one, then its specific to his phone.

Motorola not open for rooting or unlocking bootloader? Where did you get that idea? Yes they are. You get free unlock codes from Motorola -- unless you have a Verizon model.
It's Verizon, not Motorola that is the problem. They demand the locked down bootloader. All my Quarks have free bootloader unlock, straight from Motorola. They are very helpful.
But Sunshine paid exploit takes care of the Verizon problem. How do you think this phone has 9 Marshmallow ROMs, and a Nougat ROM? I'm not even counting all the custom Lollipop ROMs. Bootloader unlock and root, baby.
This guy says he rooted (permanently) without unlocking the bootloader through Sunshine. Which is impossible with the Droid Turbo, unless he has a magical phone (previously unlocked, and he didn't know or some hardware flaw that allowed it.)

You can also install a Marshmallow stock ROM released by Motorola for the Brazilian Quark. @iiWoodstocK adapted it so it runs on ANY Quark, including the XT1254 Droid Turbo or XT1250 U.S. Moto Maxx (clone of the XT1254). It will use YOUR radio, whatever you have installed.
[ROM][6.0.1][Stock][Odexed]MPG24.107-70.2 Brazilian 6.0.1 for XT1254[TWRP Flashable]
Stock 6.0.1 MPG24.107-70.2 (Brazil) for Verizon XT1254
http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-turbo/development/rom-mpg24-107-70-2-brazilian-6-0-1-t3426234
I didn't include it in the list above, because while technically it is a custom ROM, the only "customization" was to allow it to be flashed via TWRP and to allow it to be used on ALL Quarks: XT1254/XT1250/XT1225. Otherwise, it's pure Motorola Marshmallow stock which was officially released for a Quark phone.
iiWoodstocK said:
this ROM is just factory Marshmallow with a modded build.prop. I didn't include any radio in the .zip, so it uses whatever is currently on the device. Aside from my build.prop tweaks, this ROM is even usable for Brazilian XT1225 users, but the device will say it's a Droid Turbo and contain useless CDMA build.prop lines.

Major stock functionality that I have confirmed working as it should: Moto Display, Approach to wake, Wi-Fi, mobile data (LTE/3G), calls, etc. No Verizon VoLTE (yet). I have not tested Moto Voice as I do not use Moto Voice, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

Yes they are. With free unlock codes from Motorola -- unless you have a Verizon model.
Bootloader unlock and root, baby.
This guy says he rooted (permanently) without unlocking the bootloader through Sunshine. Which is impossible with the Droid Turbo, unless he has a magical phone (previously unlocked, and he didn't know or some hardware flaw that allowed it.)

Not at all. AFAIK, you don't have to regret erasing that e-mail at all. The Sunshine exploit must be paid once per device, so it would have been useless anyway
Hi guys. I was really tempted to root my Moto G5 (XT1675) and besides there is a thread giving instructions about how to install TWRP it doesn't give any indication about how to root the device. And there is one started by @Johny Cipeli here but he could not confirm the root installation in MOTO G5, as he only has a MOTO G5 PLUS. So as you see I wasn't very confident about rooting.
Well, I did it at the end and in resume I followed this guy's youtube guide https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWLR8JnZ7z0 but instead of flashing the potter version of TWRP, I used the CEDRIC one. One important thing is that you should use the Magisk v11.6, don't use the newest one cause it didn't work for me (Magisk was working but not the root). Use the one that the guy attaches in the video. Anyway I put the magisk version here in the attachments (once you flash it you will have root automatically as it's shown in the YouTube video).
Here is a proof of my rooted device: http://imgur.com/a/LQkgs
Cheers guys!

Nope. If you check the name of the file it starts with CEDRIC. The alias of our MOTO G5 is CEDRIC, and the one for the Moto G5 Plus is POTTER.
The link is for MOTO G5 CEDRIC
I successfully rooted my phone(CEDRIC) with this thread's tip + @johnycipeli's 'How to ROOT Moto G5's thread!

Make sure you are not using the newest version of Magisk and using 11.6. 12 does not work.

Iv spoken about this before - depending on your country rooting doesn't void warranty
In the UK you can root your phone & not void the warranty as long as what ever you do is not the direct cause of the fault
Companies may play hard ball but that's the European law - they have to prove rooting the phone caused the fault & if it's a hardware fault unless you stupidity over clocked something or flashed wrong firmware etc they can't prove it
Anyway the only person who can decide to root is you so no point asking

Haha your warranty will be well out of date by time brexit happens
Thanks for giving me my laugh for the day
And on a serious note - it would make no difference - you still have to battle the company - Just make sure you flash stock rom before sending your phone off for repair if possible
