I've had lots of difficulty trying to run Android 4.3, and trying to install kitkat.
The 4.3 roms have infinite reboots, and kitkat roms abort installation, some problem with sd drive.
None of these issue occur with 4.3. roms. And yes, I wipe the sd card and then install the fresh rom.
Any ideas/suggestions will be welcomed.
Thanks

I would recommend you have the latest version of Clockworkmod Recovery version 6.0.4.3 installed when trying to flash KitKat ROM's earlier versions of Clockworkmod Recovery will fail to flash KitKat ROMs. Let me know if you still have questions.
I'm using latest TWRP recovery and ThunderKats 4.4.2 ROM. Running great.

I recently got a nexus 7 2012. I unlocked it and installed the custom recovery (CWM) according to the guides given in the forum and elsewhere. The problem comes when I install a custom ROM like CM10.2, It installs fine, but the boot does not resume after the CM animation. I tried another rom like AOKP and even TWRP as recovery, still the problem persists. My bootloader is 4.23 and flashing back to stock ROM works as normal. Please help.
What recovery you use. And what tool you use to root. For I use WUG toolkit. And install TWRP. And install CM 10.2 with no problem. Maybe you not really root. Update your superuser before that
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Stupid question: are you sure you are flashing grouper ROMs?
Tried a lot of combinations with ROMs and recoveries finally I solved it. CWM wasn't working with its wipe options and tried TWRP and gave the full wipe of all partitions before flashing CM and gapps and it worked!!!!
Hi everyone,
I'm planning on upgrading my Nexus 4 to KitKat.
Currently I'm using PA 3.69 (4.2.2) with Franco Kernel and CWM Recovery.
1. What files do I need to flash for the upgrade, possibly with links? (I'm going for Purity ROM)
2. In what order should I do the flashing process?
3. Should I upgrade CWM before flashing, and if yes, which is the latest version that supports 4.4 and how does upgrading work?
Thanks in advance
If you want to install stock KK, you can download the factory Occam images and install via fastboot.
If you want to install a custom rom, you may need to update your recovery to the latest version and flash a KK rom that includes an updated radio and boot img.
So you think I can:
1. Upgrade CWM to 6.0.4.5 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2198942
2. Flash this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2545838, since it includes Bootloader and Radio.
3. Flash this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2281607 (Purity ROM)
4. Flash any desired Kernel (e.g. Franco) and use Titanium backup to restore my apps?
U just have to download the Rom. Install it. Set it up. Then boot back into recovery and install the kernel
I don't think u have to update CWM. So just steps 3 and 4
I'm asking cause I am coming from 4.2.2 with old radio and bootloader and I want the most up-to-date ones.
And I am sure that just flashing the rom will cause problems... What do I need to wipe prior to flashing?

I checked the links. Your method seems to be OK.
As for wiping, you need to wipe data, cache and dalvik cache from the recovery when you flash the Purity Rom
Everything has worked flawlessly. Thanks!
On flashing a Custom Rom, my phone gets stucked with continous FC ("Unfortunately Phone Crashed","Press OK") just after the phone boots.
I had faced the same problem earlier so someone on XDA suggested to use twrp recovery. Then i flashed the purity rom and it worked fine, but then as you may know now, as PA is out, so flashed it and again i'm getting continuous fc error....
currently i'm using purity rom, stock kernel and twrp recovery (2.6.3.3)
I would flash back to a stock 4.2.2 and start over. I find that this is the only way I can install certain roms.

Strange. Are you updating the bootloader and radio before flashing a 4.4 rom?
Are you doing a factory reset???? And flashing a proper gapps after ROM? You should always do this when going from one ROM to another. Sometimes a manual format of /system is necessary also.
no i am not updating my bootloader and radio before flashing (rather didn't know if i had to update them, fyi i bought my nexus 4 this september)....and yes i'm doing a factory reset (using the wipe option in twrp recovery which warns clearing of data, cache and dalvik memory)
Hi I hope you can help me with this,
I was on a custom 4.3 rom running on old bootloader. I then
updated to 4.4.2 rom but my camera is not working only a black screen and giving
me a warning message " Camera failed" and once that happens
the whole system lags. I've read around that it could be a hardware
problem but when I switched back to the 4.3 rom the camera is working
smoothly again. I have tried 3 different 4.4.2 custom roms but same issue persists.
My question is could this have anything to do with my bootloader? I am planning
on flashing a stock 4.4.2 firmware with the new bootloader to see if that helps but what
worries me is if this doesn't help then I have no way anymore to go back to
a 4.3 firmware where my camera still works. Can you help me point to a solution
to this problem? Or which stock firmware I should flash to test if my camera
will work on that firmware.
Did you fully wipe before flashing?

Yes full wiped in Aroma, Formatted Int/ext card from Philz recovery, restored factory
from rom didn't help either.
What custom rom did you flash? Do you use the correct modem for the old bootloader?

I have tried Phoenix ROM, GoldenEYE , ECHO ROM, I am not sure if
I am using the right modem though I just flashed the file suggested on this page.
I'm on the Phoenix rom and it's running stable for me. I am also running on the old bootloader.
I had troubles at first after upgrading to 4.4.2, but after I wiped /system in recovery, everything worked.
You could try it. Make sure to backup /efs to your external sd or pc. Backup your entire internal sdcard, because it will be wiped. I didn't know that, so I lost everything on my sd
Perform a full wipe. Then wipe /system from the recovery (i used clockwork recovery). After that just flash and don't install any tweaks in aroma.
Any Lollipop ROM that i try works fine but after flashing Gapps and rebooting, pretty much everything force closes and nothing can function. I've tried different Gapps packages and ROM's, wiping cache and dalvik but nothing works. Anyone knows what to do?
I can propose a combination that surely work great.
Rastapop Rom
With L minimal gapps
I tried this, but again all the gapps crash and force close. The only android lollipop rom that works for is the one that has gapps built in. Do you think it's related to CWM? My current version is 6.0.3.6
I have been using TWRP for the last 3 years and never had any problems.
You could give it a try.
I've used CWM for a year and a half now. No problems on Kitkat roms.
Ive tried literally all lollipop roms and gapps but none seem to work
