GPS seemed to have been working up until I flashed one of the CM11 or other Kit Kat roms. I've since gone back to CM10.2 (stable), but I can't get a gps lock. Does anyone have suggestions to get this working? I have the Verizon version.
I've tried resetting A-GPS data with the GPS Status app and also by setting the regions with Android Tweaker. Neither seems to have done anything. Really hoping my GPS radio isn't borked.

Just had this same problem, I had to flash back my original nandroid (stock ota) to get a gps lock, thought my hardware was crapped as well. But I am guessing if you dont use your gps for a long time it loses the info for sats. I tried flashing PA ram, gummy, CM11 nothing would get a lock, so I said **** it, going to return it, put stock image back on and wallah, it came back, reflashed my OSE rom and it worked, worked in pa again as well and gummy.
I also tried the gps fix lg g2 zip thats out there, nothing, tried the recalibration from 5 different compass apps and gps "fix apps" nothing.

I unfortunately lost my stock ota backup . I tried flashing this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2533018), and I got stuck in the Verizon bootloop. I'm using TWRP 2.6.3.3.
I'm unfortunately on a Mac and can't follow the steps outlined here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476). Any help would be great. This is driving me crazy!

Flash back the original 2.6.3.2, (follow the first twrp/rooting steps that you did, but minus the rooting, just the installing of twrp. Then flash one of the stock OTA images from the verizon forum.

I ended up downloading and flashing a Malladus ROM (based on stock). I managed to get a GPS lock after that (hooray!). I'd assume if I jumped back to CM now, I'd be all set.

So I have a question about the GPS on the G2. I installed cyanogenmod immediately after opening my G2. I did not realize you needed to get a GPS lock with the stock ROM first, so my GPS has not worked since I've had the phone. From what I can find the only fix I see is to roll back to stock, get a lock, and then restore my current ROM.
I currently have the latest CM11 nightly and the latest clockwork mod recovery. I don't mind backing up my current install, flashing another ROM, getting a GPS lock and then restoring, but I can't seem to find an easy way to do this. I don't see a stock ROM that I can just flash in recovery, which i'd really like to do if possible since I'm not going to keep the stock ROM for more than a couple of minutes. Some have recommended cleanrom 1.0, which I tried but after wiping data and cache only resulted in a black screen and wouldn't actually boot.
So does anyone know if there is an easy fix for the GPS that I haven't found when you have never had a lock on a stock ROM, and if not, is there a simple ROM I could flash to get this fixed up quick? Thanks for any help

I never heard of something like this. Can you please show me where you found this info? (for me this looks like a busted GPS, or Cyanogenmod GPS problem, have your checked their thread for help and info?)
Sorry that I won't help you much. But I am really interested in that part that you need to get a lock first with a stock rom.
Btw for ppl to help you with ROM's you could also share your exact device variant.
Also not sure what you mean by cleanrom being stock? Everything that is other as the KDZ files or OTA from LG are not stock. There are guides how to go to stock. But flashing something in recovery classifies as going custom. Are you sure that would fix your GPS problem?

I am having the same exact issue, has this been solved? I have tried a number of fixes that i found on xda and google but with no luck. I originally got the issue after flashing hyperdrive and thought it was rom related and switched to skyfall but no change. I have also tried wiping several times and fixing permissions, removing the transparent weather widget ( i couldnt as it was not installed), unchecking location on stock browser, changing to High accuracy. It was working fine before hyperdrive. The only thing i have not tried is wiping and flashing stock but it might be the only option at this point. I dont think its hardware as it was working fine before hyperdrive and it has not been dropped. What is the best or most effective way of wiping to stock and getting back to skyfall? I am running the AT&T galaxy s4 I337 on mdl boot, with nb1 modem, philz recovery and stock kernel from skyfall but I have also tried ktoon kernel. Thanks
I've had the same issue using various KK 4.4.2 ROMs with Safe Strap. I've tried everything imaginable to fix it and positive the problem lies with the beta version of SafeStrap or ROM implementation.

Glad to see I'm not the only one experiencing these issues but i dont think it is caused by SafeStrap for me because i have never used it. So I guess it has to do with the rom implementation. Would you happen to know what the most up to date stock rooted odin package is that i can use to flash to stock and then get back to skyfall or goldeneye? I did not flash any over the air and do not use safe strap. Thanks
Hey all,
I got my phone and immediately flashed to gr33nd3vil's cm11 rom using TWRP and ioroot. The biggest problem I'm experiencing is that I'm getting absolutely no GPS lock. I downloaded GPS test and it says 0 satellites in view and 0 in use. I tried copying some config settings from other gps.confs I saw online to no avail, as well as clearing/updating AGPS inside of GPS test. I also tried both high accuracy and device only modes.
Does anyone have any recommendations for how to go about fixing it? And if the best move is to flash back to stock, acquire a GPS lock, and then flash back to cm11, can anyone point me to the best method for flashing stock if I didn't back it up before flashing cm11?
Thanks!

Have you tried installing the GPS config files?
I think this will help but try download an program that will install the config files. For example I downloaded and app called Pimp my ROM and I can download the GPS files from there and it installs them for me. Do that and reboot and see if it makes GPS work.

I too had the same problem.. What i did was to copy the gps.conf file from stock rom and replaced it with what i had in ma phone with cm. This will not help much. But now i am able to get a gps lock, even though the no. of satellites locked are less compared to that detected by stock.
If you revert back to stock and flash cm, it wont help u. The files of stock will be over written by that of cm.

Update:
I tried using stock gps.conf, to no avail.
I tried flashing a different rom, and still got 0/0.
Flashed back to stock, and now have 0/26.
Think I'm going to return the phone and try to get a new one?

Did you flash a stock version .zip or the actual flashing through the LG tools? If you just flashed a .zip of stock i would just go ahead and flash with LG tools because that program wipes EVERYthing including all the phone memory we can't access.
I flashed with the official LG tool. I took the OTA to 12b and I can get a GPS lock. Maybe if I flash now it will work?
OK guys I've completely given up.... I've completely bricked one phone and keep soft bricking another and have a third laying around, and I just can't figure it out.
I have a G2. The GPS works in stock 4.2.2 (Tested in GPS status and toolbox app) then I root and flash a new 4.4.2 ROM (tried Malladus and Mahdi) and bam the GPS doesn't work anymore.
When I revert back to stock (through lg flash tool) it works again. HOWEVER, if I just flash the stock 4.4.2 LG ROM GPS works once agai.
Do you guys have any clue wtf is up? I can't figure it out... I've tried changing the GPS config, the drivers, every tool in GPS toolbox. Tried GPS test and I just get nothing. Is there something completely obvious that I'm missing here?
I've also tried the trick where I backup my custom ROM, revert to stock and get GPS lock then restore my custom ROM. doesn't work.
thanks!

Try getting a GPS lock on stock using GPS test. Then go into maps and verify the lock is OK. Let it sit in maps for a couple minutes. Don't press the back key, just use the home key and reboot into recovery and flash your ROM.
If that doesn't work, get a lock in stock using the same method and when flashing your ROM don't wipe /system. I know it sounds weird but I had that happen a few times with me and not wiping system allowed me to get a lock on the custom ROM.
Let me know how it goes.

Ok I was able to fix it!
But in a completely random way.
I'll try to describe it in as much detail as I can so anyone who follows will not spend as much time as I did.
First: The problem. (This only happened in custom ROM)
In stock, my GPS worked fine, no problems and I got good lock and everything.
In custom ROM's, however:
My problem wasn't just that I couldn't lock on to satellites, I wasn't able to even see any satellites.
In GPS Test I wasn't seeing any satellites. In GPS Status and Toolbox in the middle right where it says fix/sat my phone was displaying -/-
I tried everything there was, from downloading GPS states to changing my gps.conf file to basically everything I could find online, and nothing worked.
Yet everytime I went back to a stock ROM, it worked perfectly 0.o.
Fix:
Today I gave it one last shot.
I'll try to describe everything I did down to the letter in case any of it makes a difference
I ran LG flash tool, let the phone turn on, but DID NOT activate.
Then I ran LG flash tool again, and let it activate and do it's thing.
From this point on I ran GPS status and toolbox, and I was both seeing satellites and locking on.
Then I turned on Maps (as suggested) and let it lock in on my position and sit there for a few minutes.
I ran ioroot and rooted.
Then installed TWRP.
I then intended to flash to TWRP 2.7.1.0 but somehow flashed 2.7.0.0, and didn't bother changing it. (I don't recommend doing this as it could cause problems.... I was just too frustrated to change)
I backed-up EVERYTHING.
Then I downloaded and saved onto my phone Malladus, Gapps, and the 11a-24-twrp.zip file that was needed.
I flashed it, and BAM it worked.
I turned it on, activated and immediately ran GPS status and toolbox and it worked right away.
Before if I flashed I would just get -/- in GPS status and toolbox, but now I find satellites and lock quickly.
Good luck to anyone who has this problem!
Try following my steps, they may just work.
And thank you for the help!
Hi All,
I just got a new used Samsung Galaxy S4 on Sprint and brought it over to Ting (way, way, way cheaper). I got everything working with the stock ROM, including GPS, but I wanted to install Cyanogenmod, so I rooted it, flashed TWRP 7.8, and flashed the latest Cyanogenmod (snapshot M12), with Gapps, and a zip file with the Ting data XML files to get 3G and LTE working.
Everything seemed to work great, but then while driving I noticed that the GPS just did not get a lock. After trying for an hour, it still had nothing. I installed GPS Status and saw that it had no satellites. Clearing the GPS cache and re-downloading data with that app did not solve the problem. I tried GPS Doctor without success and the GPS fix equally without success.
I rebooted, then factory reset, then erased everything and flashed the latest CM nightly, all with no success.
I found some similar problems online at these places:
http://myblog-online.co.uk/2013/12/the-continuing-saga-of-my-galaxy-s4-custom-roms/
http://forum.cyanogenmod.org/topic/98811-gps-not-working-23rd-nightly/
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2172670
These are all old and none gave me anything that useful. Is it a GPS radio issue? Is there anything I can do?
I also just found this page: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Known_Issues_page_for_d2lte, but it is for the S3, not sure what to make of it.
I made a nandroid backup of my stock rom, but then I copied it to my computer, and when I copied it back again it didn't work. TWRP failed to restore with the error "No partition selected for restore".
My plan now is to flash the stock rom with odin, confirm that GPS works there, and then try again, but this is becoming a huge time sink and I have a lot of other things to do.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can fix this? I am pretty sure it isn't a hardware issue.

That's is pretty much what you have to do. Its go back to stock and get a lock there in maps. When you have a lock just go back to recovery and flash your custom ROM of choice. That is pretty much the only fix.

Thanks ROMANTiC KiD,
Good to know that I am heading down the right path before I spend a lot of time on this.
Should I not erase everything when I flash the custom ROM? I am pretty sure last time I used TWRP advanced erase to clear everything on the phone before installing. Should I just do a regular factory reset in TWRP to install CM in order to keep GPS functionality?
Thanks!

Yes sir you can factory reset in twrp just remember to back up your files first! And you should still retain GPS lock.

Thanks for the confirmation. I did exactly that and I can confirm that it did indeed work.
Thanks so much for the help.
Hi all,
Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I am having this issue and the stock firmware flash isn't solving the issue. It is all very odd because it doesn't actually retain any kind of lock after flashing. I'm following instruction on here, but after locking gps on stock, then going to CM I cannot get a fix. It either had a massive radius on Maps, or it just locks to my home or work location.
Since trying much more I have managed to get the occasional satellite lock via GPS Locker, but even then as soon as I move from either my house or work, it can't find anything to lock onto and just defaults to a static location.
Is there anything you would recommend? I have 2 Samsung GS4's and they both exhibit the same problem. I have also tried this on an S4 Mini, but that retained lock just fine. I'm really confused as to what to actually try. If you could recommend anything I'd be very grateful.
Again, I'm sorry to res an old thread, but no one has been replying to the one I started for this issue :/
Your problem may be that there is some new issue with the newer firmware. I had success by first flashing the *old* firmware (you can download it from my dropbox here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/o3f3ynyezyy4yw9/L720VPUFNAE_L720SPTFNAE_L720VPUFNAE_HOME.tar.md5?dl=0) and then upgrading to the second to last firmware update for the GS4: which gives you Android 5 but without fixing the MMS bug.
After that I flash TWRP with Odin, and then do a full erase in TWRP followed by flashing the latest CM. That series of steps works for me every time, although I found that large changes to my physical location (e.g. flying to England from California) cause it to break again. I actually had to sit in a cafe in an English airport with my laptop out flashing my phone back to stock just so that I could use Google maps to get to my mother's house. It was pretty ridiculous. Because of that and other issues, I now just use stock. I hate it, but I do it anyway. Good luck.
