[Q] Trouble moving files, r/w access revoked? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys so I installed CM 11 on G2 yesterday and since then have been unable to move files around. Meaning when I cut a certain file and try to move it to a different folder it does nothing and just remains there. I tried to update Superuser binary and got the error of r/w access being unavailable and I also can't seem to use titanium backup to uninstall apps located in /system/. If someone could please help me fix this it would be greatly appreciated as it is driving me crazy.

[Q] Cannot delete some folders

So I have a few folders which cannot be deleted. ES file explorer just says xxx cannot be deleted. I can rename the folder but not move or delete. I'm guessing there is a problem with one of the files in the folder but there are loads.
I origionally rooted the nexus 7 so I could use sixaxis but found too much lag compared with plugging in the controller so decided to return to a stock image. I did an app+data+sd card backup with nexus tools and it was after doing this I have had this problem. (also most of my games which I backed up lost their saves - wheres my water, dead trigger + others is this normal for these games?)
Any advice much appreciated
(oh since applying the stock image I no longer have root)
Could be a file permissions problem, try rooting your device again then changing permissions on the files to give yourself full read/write access to these files.
If this doesn't work you could try deleting them through the command line, but this would also require you to root your device again.
Hope I helped.
Hi thanks for your suggestion. I completely forgot I posted this. Anyway I rooted my device using the toolkit and all worked well. But I still cannot delete many folders and files and also some apps don't seem to be able to save properly.
Does anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong? Apart from this the system is stable and I would rather not do a fresh install because of all the games I have (long downloads and I have had problems backing up and restoring saves in the past) is there a way to just set all the files and folders on my phone to read / write (es file explorer reports these files have the required permissions but maybe setting them might do something)

Need help with understanding mount-points, folder structure and file system rights...

Hi everyone,
I need your help. I sometimes face strange issues with my Nexus 4 (Stock Room, Rooted, Matrix Kernel v5). Yesterday I wanted to copy a apk-file for installation on my phone from my home-server. I use ES File Explorer for that. I failed to copy the apk-file to /sdcard/folder-name (operation failed). then i navigated to /data/media/0/folder-name and tried it from there, also it didn't work.
i then copied the file to /sdcard/download and was able to copy it to that and to install it.
i don't really understand why it behaves that way, i was always able to go to /sdcard/folder-name and do what i want. i also noticed another strange thing. i connected my phone via USB (MTP-mode) to the PC and uploaded a few GB of MP3s to it (Folder: Music).
when browsing this folder with ES File Explorer, I cannot delete anything from that folder /sdcard/Music. THOUGH it reports "deletion successful" the files or folders do not get deleted but just remain on the internal SD-card. i could only delete the music successfully via "/data/media/0/Music".
who can explain briefly WTF is going on? i obviously do not really understand the concept and logic behind this. is there a maximum file/path length that must not be exceeded?
thanks in advance and best regards,
hallu
need to bump this, sorry...
does anyone have any idea as to why this phone is behaving the way it is?
I use root explorer and have ZERO issues. That includes pulling apk's.
Try a different file explorer to see if that makes a difference so at least you can determine if the issue is just app specific and not something else.
Check to see of ES isn't mounting certain folders with RW permissions.
Also the actual internal storage is /data/media/0/ so /sdcard/ is just a symlink to that folder. ES seems to be having problems with the symlinks.

[Q] Problem With Package Installer

I am having a problem with the package installer on my Nexus 7. (Wi-Fi, 32 GB) I think I may have done something to it accidentally while browsing through the system files. I did click to install the installer itself out of curiosity, though, but I don't know if that could have any adverse effects on anything. I cannot install any apps, whether they're from the Play Store or an APK through a file explorer. I get error 406 when I try to download anything from the Play Store. (Except when I tried to update ES File Explorer. That worked fine... Every other app that I've tried will not update/ download.) When I try to install an APK, I get a message like, "There is no program to open this file." I had just rooted my Nexus after having it for nearly a year with the Motochopper root exploit, so the bootloader is still locked. I could still install apps, though, until after my first reboot. Could anybody identify the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
you might have removed packageinstaller.apk thats in the system. you can fix it by getting the correct packageinstaller.apk from the interent and move it to the correct /system/app path and apply CORRECT permissions for it

It's still there. I think installing it with itself out of curiosity is what messed it up. It now shows up in the installed apps menu in Settings.

Change its permissions to the same as the other apps in the same folder should fix it

It doesn't seem that I am able to change permissions. I'm just going to back everything up and either flash a stock rom or another good rom. Thank you very much for your help anyways.
Same problem..
What do you mean about "changing permissions"? If you mean to change the file properties to -rw-r-r- then that didn't worked for me .. pls help!

[Q] [SOLVED] TiBu can no longer protect backups (access mnt/media_rw)

Hello guys and galls and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
TiBu fails to protect backups located on the external SD on a Note 4 (SM-N910W8) - while it can access/read/write the external SD card without any problems. I had the same issue in my old Galaxy S4 and, at the time, I solved it by adding media_rw access to the platform.xml file under system/etc/permissions. For some strange reasons this fix doesn't seem to be working for the Note 4.
I use a 128GB SanDisk, formatted as FAT32 (same one used in my old Galaxy S4) and I when I tried setting the backup folder's path to mnt/media_rw/extSdCard it returns an error saying that mnt/media_rw is not accessible. Every other app, including root explorers CAN access/read/write the respective location without problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Did you try to restore to the default backup folder?

The current folder is set to "storage/extSdCard/TitaniumBackup" (yes, default!) and, like I said, while I am able to access/read/write backups at that location I'm not able to protect any backup. I had the same issue with my old Galaxy S4 and the fix was reassigning the backup folder location to mnt/media_rw/extSdCard/TitaniumBackup - now I can no longer do that as TB reports media_rw as inaccessible.
I'm not sure why it becomes like that but you can try this path instead: /mnt/extSdCard/TitaniumBackup

I tried, but mnt/media_rw is the only pathway that gives full access - in fact this is precisely the modification performed by the SD card fixer: it adds media_rw to the platform.xml file under system/etc/permissions. It worked just fine under 4.4.2, but it no longer works under 4.4.4 and I have a feeling that this was pulled from Samsung's bag of dirty tricks.
EDITED: I found out that by elevating "media_rw" folder's permission to 770 (using any root explorer), TB gets full access to the external SD and can successfully perform any operation, however the permission is lost after reboot. I've tried several ways to make it stick/recursive (XPlore, ES Explorer, Root explorer) but none of my attempts succeeded. Any thoughts?

obb folder showing as a file, can't write / change permissions

Hi all,
I can't seem to get my obb folder to behave. After installing anything which makes a file inside it, the folder changes to a file inside any file manager including with root access.
In twrp it shows as a normal folder and can be deleted or edited, but once back in android, it reverts to this weird uneditable file...
Any clues? I can't (or rather won't) format internal storage as I don't have a micro SD and currently have lots of files in my root folder which I need in case of emergency (i.e. my twrp backups and some downloaded . zip files).
Any help would be appreciated! It's not an emergency I'm just trying to get a game working. Oh also, if it helps, when I try to download the game after folder has gone weird, play store gets to 99% then fails with error 0 every time.

You simply need to delete the obb folder from TWRP file manager.
If no success, connect your phone to pc and delete ithe folder from there. (or use some force delete software for your platform)

Hi,
I'm also facing same issue, did you find any solution ?
Please help me too..
Don't know if this means anything but if I go into file manager after a reboot it's fine for a minute or two then goes back to being weird. Can't put my finger on what causes it. I've uninstalled magisk, clean flashed my ROM, only thing left to do is format internal storage but can't do that until I get an SD card for my ROM files and backups to go on.

I also had the same issue with pixel experience rom. My Suggestion is to install a nougat based custom rom until someone finds a solution for that.

Thanks but that's not really a solution I want when it worked fine on previous builds.
Wow... You'll never guess...the issue is present in nougat ROMs too...
*facepalm*
i also faced the above problem in almost every oreo rom. But in the below rom it is normal.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/development/rom-cosmic-os-v3-1-universe-t3730547. i am using this rom as daily driver.
Hi All,
I deleted obb folder from going into root >> data >> media >> obb
Choose file manager like es file explorer or Aroma file manager.
But this is temporary solution not permanent after some time same issue will occur again.
Kindly follow this thread to solve obb data lost on Oreo custom Rom.

Thank you so much!! I don't have an SD card at the moment, however, but happy to know a solution. Does anyone know the cause??
Is there a solution for this without SD card??
EDIT: I've noticed something. The issue described in this thread seems only to happen after connecting to WiFi and downloading apps from the play store. It doesn't seem to happen before I will do that. Hope it helps.

My theory says obb folder turns into file cause system link from data/media/obb should be revoked but I'm not smart enough to know how to create system links
I noticed that when I install the pubg mobile game manually I do not lose the obb folder, just like the friend mentioned above only occurs when the game is installed directly from the play store
For those who don't have rooted devices use this method until we get a fix
