[Q][HELP THREAD!]Help Me! My Stupid Right Brain! - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello XDA i'm a silent reader on XDA forum since 2010 when my device is LG Optimus 2X.
Now my phone is nexus 4 and i got some serious problem that snap me very hard and i can't find a solution anywhere, everywhere.
I also already send a report to google via crash report in 3 times and got no response but i still optimist to find a solution.
My nexus 4 is upgraded via OTA Android 4.4.2 KOT9H and this device is virgin aka not rooted! So this is the chronology.
1. I want to keep the default nexus 4 wallpaper so im looking for the .jpg file.
2. So many thread form many forum says that the .jpg its located in system/framework/go to (inside framework-res.apk etc).
3. Then i go to system/framework.
4. Finally! i see the framework-res.apk but i dont understand how do i get into another subfolder while this framework-res.apk is an .apk file
5. So i try to click the framework-res.apk then the installer window appear and ask me do you want to install this app?
6. Even before i choose the answer, my Mr.Know-it-All stupid sh**t aka my right brain is showed some curiosity then he took the control of my thumb then click install!!!:silly:
7. But when its done, the window says that "the application is not installed" so i close the window while im thinking there is still piece outside
8. Then the problem is show up!
# I can't access the 'app info' via drag the app from the app drawer because it will "Unfortunately, settings has stopped"
# I open setting => apps => click some apps ie:bbm and "Unfortunately settings has stopped" appear again.
# So i try to do again to go to system/framework/framework-res.apk then when i click the framework-res.apk it give me "Unfortunately, package installer has stopped"
# So i take some random test, I have installed apps called iRealb.apk and i still have the .apk file in download
so i open download the click the iRealb.apk to see what is happen, then VOILAAA!!! "Parse error, There was a problem parsing the package"
I already looking for answear but there is no result an no one do the same cases like i did.
Please help me. This thing is keep annoying me until my sanity already half now:silly:

You need to pull the framework-res.apk and decompile it. You might want to review for steps or procedures how to decompile an apk. Here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1805408

Live wallpapers.apk installed on G1 from NeXus dump

Ok guys i've managed to successfully install the LiveWallpapers.apk from the NeXus dump and also the MagicSmokeWallpaper.apk on the G1 on android 2.1. problem is that I can't get the LiveWallpaperPicker.apk to install in order to use live wallpapers. reason being is because it isn't being deodexed properly.. I used the deo-all tool and it de-dexes the .apk but i see that it throws an error during the process and i can't find out what it is since the terminal quits to quickly for me to do so. i sign the .apk and install, but throws the error "dexopt". so my theory is its not properly being de-dexed.. once I get this solved i'll also have the new launcher2.apk, gallery3d.apk, and visualization wallpapers.apk able to be installed.
any help??
bump this get this poppin
I liked to see those apps working as well...
Major progress, so thanks to a cpl devs who helped out (miketaylor, djengizz) i've been able to install the livepaperpicker.apk and the prompt to use live wallpaper shows up now.
but it fc's. reason being is because for some odd reason when it gets deodexed the mainclass in the classes.dex gets deleted and so the activity can't be read and it isn't initialized by dalvik. all we would need is to be re-compile the classes.dex back with the mainclass and in theory it should work.. but that's where the problem lays. smali isn't being so nice and throws bunch of errors.
ive heard talk about these wallpapers. what exactly is so special about them?

From what i've seen they allow the wallpapers to be animated, so for example, you can have a wallpaper that has different weather effects, or a pic of the ocean moving etc.
I cant wait until this is working on the Manup 1.0.1 rom.
good luck guys, this would be amazing.
update: there's just 1 issue holding this back from happenning afaik, once we get this worked out it should be a go.

Thanks for your feedback
Hope you can tune the app soon!
Maybe something is wrong with the app that you been trying to deodex. Have you tryed downloading another nexus dump from a different source and deodexing those apps? Just a suggestion in case you didnt think about it just trying to help!
i am trying to install this on my droid with 2.1.
You need to move over some of the libraries from 2.1 or else it will not work.

ok like what libs??.. my main issue right now is when de-odexing the apk, it leaves out the mainclass activity, so it cannot be initialized by dalvik and throws a fc. I've got it installed however and attempts to intialize when prompted

Any Progress on this...ill be a beta tester if you need any
this is one of the coolest features of 2.1 to be honest...the eye candy factor is amazing. Seems like progress is being made though...you think it will be done soon? want it on my mt3g soon =D
guys, I have everything I need to get this working, it's just I still have the 1 problem that is totally hindering this. i'ved asked for help to somebody but they haven't responded back, although it's not something that me and djengizz haven't tried already. at this point, only hope we have is getting an un-odexed dump, OR jf updating the smali tools that are throwing the errors that we get. believe me, if u guys can't cait to have this, imagine how i feel having everything set and ready to go with only 1 thing holding it back, especially since I was basically the first 1 to start up on this mod before anyone else.
Sucks I cant do anything to help...im just sitting down while you do all the work so I can watch my wallpaper move
sounds like your really trying hope you get this out soon...you'll be my hero for sure.
basically, the main problem is in smali... I have all the smali files and try re-assembling but smali just throws loads of erros and doesn't make the classes.dex we need to get this up and running.

Installing 3rd Party Apps

Here is how to install 3rd party applications. I'm not going to go into detail for every step so a little more research may be required if you don't understand all the terms. Search around, it's how I learned.
1. Download and extract the Android SDK. Once it is extracted copy it to the root of your C drive and to make your life easier rename it to sdk. So in the end it should be C:\sdk.
2. Download and install HTC Sync.
3. After the install of HTC Sync is complete connect your phone to the computer and select the HTC Sync option for the connection type on your phone. It doesn't matter if it fails to connect or gives you any error. When I did it the phone told me it couldn't find HTC Sync on my PC but I just hit OK and moved on.
5. Copy whatever 3rd party apps you are looking to install to the tools folder. (C:\sdk\tools). DO NOT rename the files, I had problems after doing that.
6. Open up a command prompt on your PC (In windows it's start, run, cmd) and change to the tools directory.
cd\
cd sdk\tools
After you change to that directory the prompt should say: c:\sdk\tools.
7. Type adb devices to verify that your computer can see the phone. If everything is working you should get a response that looks something like this:
List of devices attached
HTxxxxxxxxx device
8. Once you verify that the computer and phone are connected type the following:
adb install nameofapp.apk (obviously changing the nameofapp part to whatever the file is named).
You should see it copy the app then install and at the end it will say successful. All done!
Feel free to add to this if I missed anything....

Thanks KB for the update, an easy workaround that I don't mind performing at all. Now if only we can remove those pesky AT&T bloatware they slapped on it, and get a nice Root going, we'll be in business!
Heck, I'd be willing to buy an extra Aria for someone around here if they could get a quick root/2.2 update going for this thing.
trying to install swype on my aria. please help
hello, please help with step 6. i dont know what i need to do. can some one please reply really quick. all i need is to do is install swype. how do i find swype anyways

Step 6 may seem a little unwieldy, but here is a trick I learned.
1) Create a shortcut for CMD.exe on your desktop.
2) Right click the CMD.exe shortcut and go to Properties.
3) In the Start in: bar, type in the directory for the android SDK tools folder you put on your computer. For example, my start in address is:
Code:
"I:\HTC Hero\android-sdk-windows\tools"
Now everytime you open this CMD.exe shortcut, it will start in the correct folder to perform adb commands.
As far as Swype goes, you can get an e-mail for the installer through here.
I did run into a problem, since Swype will not install correctly because it needs to download and apply another .apk, which AT&T's blocks will not allow. Swype really isn't important enough to me to get it otherwise, as I'm happy installing the other apps I've been missing out on.
Hope that helps!

I'm sorry I can't be more technical, but I use an easier way to install 3rd party apps, even multiple installs at once. Everything above is the same except AFTER step 3.. go to http://de.codeplex.com/ and download droidexplorer, once you have it, connect your phone to the pc, execute droidexplorer (droid explorer can take up to 2 mins (or maybe longer) to load so be patient), select drop down menu tools either addons (-batch install) to install multiple apps.. or Manage Packages to install single app. There are lots of other functions using droidexplorer but I think most of them need the device to be root.
(it's been a while since I first installed droidexplorer, so I'm not 100% certain if I even needed the android sdk, but HTC SYNC is definitely needed, if someone wants to give it a shot without installing android sdk to verify, that would be great, let me know and I'll fix up this post.)
THIS HAS BEEN VERIFIED TO WORK ON THE STOCK ATT ARIA by myself, as I just purchased the aria on sunday and already installed over 30 apps.
hope this helps someone.. post any replies if you need help, I'll try to help in any way I can.
thanks for the instructions KB. Getting my aria soon and can't wait to ditch the iPhone

I'd suspect you would need root access and then you could simply use shell rm /system/app/attbull****.apk
Yup....Same thing I did with my Incredible..
Ok, I got the Swype installer onto my phone, but then it stops me again. Thoughts?

To elaborate. did "install adb swype-installer.apk" Got the success message. Tried to run swype installer on my phone and it got blocked as a third party app.
So, you can just use the Incredible root and it'll work for the Aria?

No no, he was saying he was able to remove the Verizon bloatware from his Incredible after rooting the phone. DO NOT use the Incredible method for rooting on your Aria, as you will possibly brick your phone.

Are you sure you have the right apk? If you got success it should already be installed. Check it by going to settings then language and keyboard. You should see Swype as an option.

yep did "adb install swype-installer.apk" Got the "success" - nothing there. The swype installer is now on my phone. Click on it, log in to it, click download - third party deny message.
Also there's no swype on my phone in the downloads, only the swype installer. I figured I might have to do the same thing for the swype installer and swype, but the file isn't there. What exactly does running "install swype-installer.apk" accomplish? I figured it would allow me to download the actual Swype program, and not just the installer.
Tried again in CMD "Install_failed_already_exists"

I tried this too. Apparently Swype-installer.apk is an Android program for you to download and install the REAL Swype software. I was able to install the swype-installer but the next step fail since it's trying to install Swype directly. Does any have the actual swype apk file? Do you know where I can find it?

Market won't stop force closing! - PLEASE HELP!

Hi all,
Last night, out of the blue, every time I tried to download an app from the Marketplace I got the error "process com.android.vending has stopped unexpectedly" and a force close. I have no idea what would have caused this as everything was working fine up until last night, I can't think of any strange updates or anything.
Anyway, after some Googling I cleared the market cache and data as recommended but now I can't even open the Market app at all - well it opens, but force closes straight off the bat (I see the Android TOS in the background). I now get the process com.android.vending has stopped unexpectedly error on boot and whenever launching the market.
I've attempted to install a newer market.apk (current one is 1.82) but Android won't allow me.
The only other recommendations people have given on here to those experiencing this issue on dedicated Droid handsets is to either do a full format/install or to flash something via recovery (doesn't look like I can do this on my SD build)
A couple of months ago I was getting force closes on the calender app and someone sent me a droid.zip file which had a fsck.exe inside it which allowed me to repair my data.img which in turn fixed the problem. I've formatted my PC since than and lost the files and can't find them via Google, at least not one that'll run under Windows command prompt with "fsck.exe data.img" after placing the data.img in the same directory. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Or better still provide an alternative method for fixing this issue?
Using Darkstone's SuperRAM 1.5 Froyo build.
Many thanks!!
maybe you should try an other android rom ?
The best and quickest way to fix this is to use market.app from same build what u got.
So its mean u need to extract this particular app from the ROM and copy it to the /system/app
Or if u dont know how to extract it just ask in your ROM thread so someone whos know how to extract it and than can post it for download.

Not really an option - The build I use is the most stable and one of the most widely used here on XDA (outside the Nand forum) and has been nigh-on perfect up until now (in daily use since before Christmas). I can't replicate how and why this happened so there's just as much chance of it happening on another ROM. Google suggests it's a common problem with the fix (for non rooted/savvy) people to factory reset their devices.
There's got to be a better way and I'm sure the crew here will find it!

This should help cos if u do it this way u actually not installing/reinstalling the app. u actually repleace the sys market.app for the original one from the ROM. So there is no way it will not work again if it was working before after u flashed the ROM.
I'm pretty sure it will do the trick, but also I may be wrong .
I had some issue on my ROM with cam.app and this proced. helped me.
Hey,
you can try this (very simple):
1. Open terminal emulator
2. type "su" (without quotes) and hit enter
3. type "fix_permissions" (without quotes) and hit enter
4. wait until process is done and exit terminal
5. maybe reboot, but should be fine without reboot
This is a common way to fix force closes, so maybe this helps in oyur case too.
Greetz Dom
FIXED! [Edit: not]
Here's what I did.
Downloaded THIS
Extract it to C:\Droid
Boot into Win Mobile and move your data.img in \Android\ into the \Droid\ folder on your PC.
Start > Run > CMD
type "cd c:\droid" (without quotes) to get into the directory you've created.
Type "e2fsck -f data.img" (without quotes) and say 'y' (yes) to all the errors you encounter. There will be dozens. When done you'll be notified the modified data.img has been saved.
Copy the newly modified data.img from \Droid\ to \Android\ on your device.
Boot into Android - things might be a bit slower/laggy at first.
All should be well!
Edit: This fix seems to have really slowed my phone down. It takes at least 2x as long to run stable on boot (i.e. stop lagging, load all background apps etc). I've imported my previous data.img over and will be trying the fix by Dom (above).
Edit2: And I'm now getting com.android.media force closes with the modded data.img! Music app won't work. Jesus!

Did fix_permissions via the app ROM Manager and the Market force close still remains
How about getting a fresh copy of the ROM, and just keeping your data.img. It may not work, but it's surely worth a go.

Hmm, it seems that this script isn't inluded in your roms. But for you SMS92 it seems that it is another problem anyway.
If you wanna try sth. else see this:
http://all-google-android.com/google-android-forums/t-mobile-g1-modders/fix-permissions/
This is an "improved" fix permission tutorial which goes further than the command I posted above...quote from the link above: "fix_permissions is only intended for correcting ownership issues. It does not modify permissions, as is being requested."
In this post is a downloadlink for the advanced script so it doesnt matter if its already included in the rom...
@ricardo: see here if you still wanna try it: http://modmymobile.com/forums/567-motorola-backflip-general/556261-fix_permissions-script.html

How about getting a fresh copy of the ROM, and just keeping your data.img. It may not work, but it's surely worth a go.

It's a no-go I'm afraid.
So far the only thing that's worked is running the repairs on my 2gb data.img using e2fsck on my PC, but this in turn created a load more problems (com.process.media started force closing and the rom seemed to be much slower)
Will try some more suggestions tonight.
if your running gingerbread make sure the app is installed on the phone not the sd
I'm also suffering from this issue it started for me when an automatic update downloaded (which I didn't install) I will see if any of the above fixes work for me & if not I will start with a fresh copy of the ROM. Have to admit I have barely used winmo since I started using this build!
I have the same problem using froyo 2.2
I've had the same problem, just did a totally fresh install, ok now

Any chance you could walk me through the steps you took for a fresh install? I am at my wits end with the FCs and a mount/partition error. Here is my setup:
HTC Hd2 Leo
HTC Desire
Android 2.2.1
Mod darkstone SuperRAM FroYo v1.5
Build FRG8
I am up for a new ROM or whatever to get my phone back in order. Thanks so much!

You SN is aptly named
Literally two posts below yours http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1230744&highlight=ro+carrier
Perhaps the response was helpful to android-noob, I'm not sure. However, I have searched for quite a while and don't see anything relating to the questions that result in actual help to fix the problems. I certainly take full credit for being an android idiot but we all start somewhere when we're trying to learn new things. I've been trying to learn from reading and this is quite honestly the best forum for everything that has to do with phones and tablets.
I would appreciate a simple link or response that might be of help to fix the problem of suddenly getting the errors listed by the first poster if you would be so kind.
Thank you for any help you can give.

Let's see. I did provide a link in my response, and the last post on the page of the link I gave had the fix for the sim card message. How much more spoon feeding will you require?
first you need file manager with root access
Sim card messages:
Go to system there is a file called build.prop ,open it and add the line ro.carrier=wifi-only,you can add this line on the bottom of the file for example and les and save the file.
Reboot and the simcard message should be gone.
For the fd.updater problem:
That is because the build prop is changed so the update service doesn't recognize it.
That is no problem I delete this in my roms so you won't have that stupid message.
What you can do is go to system/app, find fd.updater.apk and fw.updater (i think that is the correct name) and rename them by putting a .bak behind the name of the apps.
Reboot and the messages should be gone.

Woweeeeeee.spoon feeding sucks I been there for 12 weeks twice this year while recovering from shoulder surgery.then again less then a month ago.
Op I do not have this or any of the other known issues with the custom roms.thou I know they can bring some extra speed and apps.
Kjy can you go spoon shopping for me.Erica needs some new winter boots.
Giggles.
Goodluck. OP ..
BACKUP THE BUILD .prop file before you edit it.
Thanks for your reply and for being so kind in it. I was able to repair my problems right after I posted, which is why I rarely post. I have no formal computer education, self taught. I normally do pretty well but run into problems once in a while that stump me. This forum is a true Godsend to a 63 year old woman. Thanks again.

"there is a problem parsing the package"

Guys,
I'm so angry , I just rooted the nook glowlight and am unable to install any apk files.
I'm always getting "there is a problem parsing the package", whatever I found on the internet :crying:
Is there no file explorer by default on it ? And why this parse error ?
And most websites just crash, grrr
Anyone, anyone please anyone : HELP MEEEE
Do you have ADB working? Can you see a logcat?
Do you know that these APKs are actually good and designed for API level 7?
Also, is installation of apps from unknown sources enabled in nook color tools? Most (all?) of the NST rooting packages include it, but you do have to set the flag to get packages found via the internet (rather than the google store) and copied to the device to install.
I get that error sometimes when downloading .apk files from some sites. Your browser might not be downloading the file with the correct filetype suffix. Can you see if it has the .apk suffix on it? I've found that some browsers do better than others with handling this file-type. If you can get xScope browser or Opera Mobile I think those were better. It's also possible that a retry of the download will work, or that the file itself is just bad.
I get the same error on my nook simple touch.
the same apk's work on my galaxy nexus.
Anyone knows what might be the problem and how to solve it?
A logcat will tell you exactly what the problem is.
Use ADB and get a logcat.

Are you sure these apks are compatible with Android 2.1 Eclair? Not everything will work. Which programs are you trying to install specifically?

I haven't thought of that. but you're probably right.
I'm surprised the error message is not more obvious though.

Wrong forum.
Try installing any other package with requirements : 2.1+
In Settings check "Allow Installation of Non-Market Apps" .
Install apk from SDCARD.
I'm 90% sure you are just trying to install a package not compatible with A 2.1.

I have a similar problem...
new to rooting and romming, finaly!!!! got my ms770 lg motion back to stock and I too am getting the error " there is a problem parsing the package".
I noticed that if I download an app, it installs fine, no problem...but when I transfer from my pc, it shows up with that error message when I try to install.
I have read a LOT of these forums , trying to determine how to solve this riddle...they all say try THIS file manager, or, make sure installation of non-market apps is checked, or some such thing...
Well, the "allow installation of non-market apps" thing IS checked...still no dice...
What do I do with the log once I get it?
Basically....can someone please point me in the right direction? Please?
