[Q] Screen flashing - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Have had this issue since I first got my nook. When sleeping the screen will flash, not very bright, hard to see outside of a fully darkened room. Has anyone seen a way to fix this?

Screen tearing

Just flashed a new ROM and noticed there is a line about a little higher than halfway that seems to tear even when I move the screen slightly. Is this a hardware issue or a ROM issue? Never noticed before. Should I unroot and send to sprint? Its really noticable.

What kernel does it show when you go to settings > about phone? That's most likely the cause
Running netarchys universal 4.1.9.1. with myns new twopointtwo rom. It went away now, but was pretty bad at that one point. Seems to come and go.

You may want to find his thread in the dev section and try another version of it. It usually stays on the first page or two.
What about this version is causing this effect? I have ran this kernel before with no problems. Is this for sure a software issue and not a hardware?
It's only when you turn the phone on after a ROM flash, or reboot. Just turn the screen off, and then back on, and it fixes it...

I am having the same problem. I find that different kernels clear it up. I also suspect that on some kernels it happens as the phone heats up.... hmmmm....

[Q] Camera flash led always on

Only found one other instance of this with a search. The camera flash led is very faintly on always. Not sure if it was like this out of the box or something I may have done rooting or messing with xposded framework. I've wiped and installed roms, but the led stays lit. Any help would be appreciated.

Nope, it's definitely dimly lite. I've compared it to other sprint g2. Seen one other thread on this, but it was unresolved and the op hasn't responded to a private message.
Can anyone help on this? I've wiped everything and flashed a stock rom and the flash is still lit.

Doesn't have to be in a dark space. As long as I'm not in a real bright space, I can see it.

[Q] Nexus 10 screen flashes

I've experienced occasional very bright flashes on my tablet's screen, like a flash of lightning or a camera flashlight.
I'm on lollipop 5.1 now, but I think I've been seeing this since my jellybean 4.3 days.
Has anyone else had this? Is this a known issue? Is there a fix?
I've had this happen a few times, always when scrolling from one desktop screen to another, and only after installing 5.1. I'm using the Nova Launcher beta, and another user had the same experience and thought it was from the beta. Mysterious.
same here.. i had monitored the spontaneous flashing, this is almost every night around 10pm (at least in my local time GMT+8). I observed of course the sudden burst of light came from the led flash of the camera.
I suspect that this is some sort of an app permission that we allowed from installing a certain "malicious app" i dont know what app is that.. Maybe it took pictures of your sorrounding, data mining/gathering that is and Its kinda crossing our privacy and somehow creepy.
I hope someone would enlighten and help us regarding this issue.
I've had this happen since install 5.0, I've only ever used stock on my N10. When I installed 5.1 I did a complete wipe and only installed selected apps, I haven't even reinstalled the Amazon app store. Today I noticed it as I had the screen on but the brightness turned all the way down (for another problem I'm having) and I was just sitting here and it flashed suddenly for no reason. All it was doing was downloading a comic from Comixology.

That's exactly how it happens for me too - while reading, or doing something equally innocuous. Methinks it's a glitch in the hardware. I dunno how to report this to Google, or if they'll even listen.
Mine has been doing the same thing, I think it started with the first 5.0.x updates. A random flash, doesn't matter what I'm doing, can't predict when it will happen.
Running stock 5.1.0 rooted, no other mods.
Say Cheese!

No clue yet ?
If anyone learns anything, please post it here. I'll do the same.
Its 10pm Pacific and it happened to me. This is the second time. First time I thought I imagined it then felt a little creeped.
Now I'm full on creeped out. I tried recreating it by doing the same things. I had my thumb over the light sensor at the time so I thought...
But no that can't be it. My hands are always in the same place. I'm running stock. Anyone up for sharing apps that are installed and we can narrow this down?

Has been happening to me for the last couple of years, and in that interval I've installed several different ROMs and completely different sets of apps, except the basic Google apps that have been common. So if it is being triggered by an app, it must be one by Google.

I'm experiencing exactly the same since 5.0 on my Nexus 10... Thought it was AVG Security app maybe?
It freaks me out to think these photos are being taken and sent to somebody :/

Nope, it's no particular app. I've had it with completely different sets of apps installed. Anyway, what makes you think it could be AVG?

I thought it could be AVG because I have the anti-theft enabled which takes a photo of the unauthorised user. I activated it recently to test it and my Nexus 10 had been flashing only since then.
I'm having this problem, too. I don't have AVG or whatsoever. It happened 3 times in a couple of weeks. Is somebody watching us or do they just need to supply their x-rated web sites?
Mine is doing this too. Did you find out why? Maybe there is somewhere a spy-app that has installed itself? Do you have a hint for me? I write from Hungary. Best regards. Eddie Taft

Sorry, I couldn't find out anything. And in any case it's nearing its end-of-life. Finding a good Marshmallow image for it was difficult enough; I don't think it will see Nougat, ever. The battery on my device is in poor shape, and I'm debating whether to invest in a replacement, or just let it run down and die quietly.

New touchscreen firmware!

Hi all,
as stated in the past days by oneplus, a new touch firmware has been released and will be in cluded in 5/15 cm12.1 nightly. this should (i hope so) resolve all the remaining touch issues that affects many opo
Here is the coomit: http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/98287/
05/18: The touch firmware has been reverted to the old one because of battery drain caused by dt2w
sub.
Looks like working very good. Flashing Nightly and screen is more responsible ever sinde the failure occured. waitung für Lord Boefla or slimkat to include it

Certainly seems to be working for me. Typing fine, and x-axis multitouch is working great.

Yes, working fine for me.....
The question now is.... will be forever?
multi touch on mine phone on x axis is still jerking from time to time
sometimes it works normally, detects 2 fingers, then on the other hand detects one or none
will see how it will perform through the day, but since i made a clean flash, i doubt that it will be better...
I have the grounding issue with my ONE. No problems with higher temperatures though.
I flashes Franco Kernel r43 boot.img on my stock cm12s. Fo rme the issues are gone.
x-axis touching is working good. Swiping texts is finally possible again!
Thanks to synaptics!!
I will probably switch to cm12.1 nightlies again when I have some spare time left.
Any way this could be a flashable zip for all ROMs or is this something that is baked into the ROM/Kernel?

You can flash Franco's kernel below if you are on CM12s/CM12 (5.0.2). Or the alternative is to flash the 5/15 nightly (5.1) or wait for it to be rolled out OTA.

Nice! Thanks for the link. Flashing now.
I had only mild touchscreen issues so I'll see if it gets rid of them.
I've never had touch issues thus far, but I am a bit disappointed at the fix. Although I do notice a better touch response, the fix isn't a fix and is a workaround. PPPreferences has a huge battery drain (com.qualcomm.display) which basically, like I've seen written somewhere, means they're just keeping an app open to recalibrate the screen constantly.

Not for me. Nothing changed in terms of battery usage with today's nightly. Also it isn't even listed under Apps in the battery screen on my device.
This app is only used for post processing (Live Display) and has nothing to do with the new firmware.
I was suffering from pretty bad heat related issues, all gone now.
I just flashed Boeffla-Kernel for CM11s. I can definitely tell a difference. There was one app that I could make it jump when swiping up or down and holding it toward the bottom-middle of the screen, no longer have that issue. I also constantly had trouble with it "clicking" things when all I wanted to do was scroll up or down on something. Have not had that issue since flashing.

Hmm that's pretty interesting then, but I don't seem to be the only one reporting a difference in the CPU time of something which includes the Qualcomm services. We'll see with more usage though.

Yes, until it gets pushed officially, as you need to either flash a custom kernel or the latest nightly.

Always on display and night clock issue

Hi guys
Recently I developed a problem where the entire screen is dimly lit when the night clock and always on display are used. It seemed to just happen out of nowhere, nothing that I did that I can think of but it sort of defeats the purpose of having it on an oled display if every pixel is lit. Phone is on the latest update, never rooted, and the always on display is at the latest version. I have tried everything up to a full factory reset. Any help is greatly appreciated.
One thing to add, I even tried flashing a new firmware through odin
I'm having the same problem. Did you manage to find a fix?

No. Seems that we're not the only ones with the issue but nobody seems to know anything about it. I was hoping the latest update would fix it, but no. My current theory is that it's a bug in the always on display driver, but that seems to be updated through the galaxy app store. If anyone knows how to revert to an old version of always on display, it may be helpful.
Well, spoke to Tmobile, getting a replacement phone.
Same issue here (it glowed in the dark); called TM for replacement. All better now
Thx for the tip.

Yea, it seems like a rare problem, but definitely a hardware fault. Oh well, got a brand new, non-refurb device, thanks to Tmobile. Glad it worked out for you.
