Hi guys,
I recompiled AppOps as an independent app from latest AOSP source and it works after making some changes. What this means is that you no longer have to rely on third party apps or tricks/workarounds. This is an independant app, just like any other app you use so you can install it and then use AppOps right from your app drawer!
Download: https://raw.github.com/theblixguy/AppOps/master/apk/AppOps.apk
Flashable ZIP for KitKat 4.4/4.4.1/4.4.2: http://www.mediafire.com/download/qiqst3lg5jld5mk/AppOps_Kitkat_flashable.zip
Source code: https://github.com/theblixguy/AppOps
Installation: Move the apk (DO NOT INSTALL) to the system/priv-app folder and set permissions to 777 and then reboot! Or you can flash the ZIP via recovery which will do everything for you
Note: The app is compatible with Android 4.3 but since I don't have a device with Android 4.3, I haven't been able to test the app on Android 4.3 and Android 4.3 does not have a system/priv-app folder so if you're successfully able to use the app on Android 4.3 after moving it to /system/app folder and setting the permissions to 777 then let me know!
If you guys face any problems then please reply below
Thanks
CHANGELOG:
21/12
-> Updated icon
-> Added about dialog
-> Cleaned up code
-> Added support for Android 4.3
19/12
-> First release
im looking forward to trying this ouut and comparing it with a few other aps...just one thing ...a direct download would be great and 777 permissions??? you mean rw- r-- r--???
Yes 644 are the right permissions for all apps in priv-app
Any chance of making a flash able zip? I use Cyandelta for flashing CM nightlies and it has the ability to tag additional zips for post-install

Yes, it works. I use ART primarily (which I shouldn't but all my apps work).

re goodnight it works with zip thank you to you for your work :good:
Installed and rebooted and seems to be working OK. Of interesting note...all of my permission revokes were there from when I ran the AppOpps app from 4.4.1 before it was removed. Could lead to interesting problems if future versions make this inoperable and permissions need to be changed?

My app is built using the same code that AppOps uses (plus some of my modifications to make it work independently) so it will work and behave *exactly* like the inbuilt AppOps app. So, if you denied Facebook access to camera using the inbuilt AppOps app then if you run my app, you would see that Facebook is denied access to camera.

Anyone have any idea why I don't have Caller ID by Google on 4.4.2 (latest CyanogenMod 11 nightly)?
I thought it may have been my Gapps package, but I tried flashing the PA Complete Stock Gapps package from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942 but I still don't seem to have it?
Anyone have any ideas?

If you can find a flashable one that is easy, otherwise to need GoogleDialer.apk, GoogleDailer.odex(unless you can find a deodexed version), Teleservice.apk/ and telephonyprovider.apk
With Root Explorer copy GoogleDialer.apk, GoogleDialer.odex, and TeleService.apk to system/priv-app and set perrmissions to rw-r-r
then copy TelephonyProvider.apk to system/app and set permissions ro rw-r-r and reboot

This isn't GEL. This is just the GEL dialer which allows you to search for businesses within the dialer like the Nexus 5.
And yea, you need to be rooted for this to work.

You're supposed to create a shortcut for the new dialer and make that your new phone icon.
If this happens on your phone, the only solution we found was to use Nova Launcher because it has a feature that allows you to run a specific activity within an app. To set this up:
1. Within Nova Launcher, long-press on the home screen.
2. Choose "Shortcuts"
3. Select "Activities"
4. Find "Google Dialer" in the list, then tap to open it up, and select "Phone" (use the first one in the list)
This will put a shortcut to the dialer on your home screen. At this stage, you can use this to access Google Dialer. It's not the cleanest solution, but it does work.

Click to collapse
If you're not running a custom launcher like Nova, you can also use this app to create the shortcut:

Okay. I'm using GEL. I will do this in a few and report back. Thanks

No prob. Glad you got it working.
So I installed the APK and added a shortcut Nova Launcher and I can search for businesses and stuff just fine, but when I try to make a call in the dialer it crashes. I downloaded the apk from 2 different mirrors so that isn't the issue. I would try to flash the zip but I don't have the slightest idea how to do that.

Did you follow these steps?
2. Flash the ZIP file in a custom recovery, or copy the APK file directly into /system/priv-app.
3. If you opted to move the APK file manually, you'll need to set the permissions on the APK to 644 after moving it into its proper folder. Do this either through your file manager app or via a shell.
4. Reboot your phone.

Do you have root access?
Is there any way around if you don't have root?
Self promotion aside, I created a thread for this a while back. This dialer works flawlessly without the need for nova or an activity launcher.

You can't install it with the package installer.. You would need to copy the apk and the odex file to /system/app or /system/priv-app (depending where the original apk was) then change the permissions to match the other apps. There is a folder structure for apps usually in /system/app/app_name_here there is a arm sub folder there the odex goes and the apk goes in the root. Just look at another app in /system/app or /system/priv-app in a file Explorer to see what I mean

Well again you need to remember that was day 1 plus you cnat assume one person's usage will return the same results for you. That battery data means nothing since we don't know what they were doing, GPS on Bluetooth etc... You can't assume yours will be the same. My Nexus 6 can get 3-7 hours SOT deepening on my usage so again it varies depending on the person and what they are doing.
