[Q] Defy Jellybean 4.3 + Bluetooth Headset - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys
How brilliant it was to update my laggy gingerbread Defy +, to 4.3 JB (CM10) i=.It was a massive breath of fresh air, phone seemed amazing until ... I found out the hard way that Bluetooth headsets didn't work correctly - I was absolutely heartbroken , while my manager's speech was reduced to mere fuzz as I was driving to work .
In the UK it is a legal requirement to have a Bluetooth headset or receiver if driving , the current job requires use of phone and van so keeping the 4.3 rom was illogical
What is the chances there will be a fix for the handset in newer roms , or should I cut my losses and just wait for a better smart/toughphone with jelly pre-installed?

Bluetooth works on CM10 (not on CM10.1 or CM10.2), so you could switch to that for now, while we wait for it to be fixed in the newer roms.
Hang on to that Defy! If you thought JB 4.3 was amazing, wait until you try KitKat!

I tried CM10 and CM9 , various builds and found them buggy for whatever reason . 4.3 seemed fine apart from BT , So reverted back to 2.3.6 GB
Does the community feel confident a fix for the BT will come around ?

Jellybean slow as hell!

Is it just me or after a few hours of use does TAJB's Jellybean rom become incredible slow and sluggish? I know its still in early development but its only an incremental update from ICS which seems to be stable (for the most part) but sometimes its just goes crazy on JellyBean despite the Project Butter enahncement. Im starting to think that these new versions of Android are startin to push the boundaries for our tired old Galaxy S1's :S
The hardware of the SGS1 is old and outdated its just something we have to come to terms with. After using other phones with official ICS I understand why the SGS hasn't been supported, so I'm guessing its much the same with JB..
I am using the cm10 unofficial its smooth as hell

Yeah ive been using that too, its only slightly more responsive but still get the same problems. especially if i try to use google voice, the thing just goes berzerk.
I'm yet on unofficial CM10 v2 and it's very smooth, I fell diffrence than ics.

+1 :good:
It's the launcher, most likely. I ran into that problem as well.
I'm on iall5tar's GNex ROM 4.1.1 Port and it's smoother than ICS, which was already fairly impressive.
Our i9000's are old, but each software upgrade is just that—an upgrade. JB is better than ICS, and ICS was better than GB. We didn't get the official update because Samsung thought their Touchwiz skinned ICS wouldn't run on our hardware. In reality, it was likely because they didn't want to spend money updating a device they no longer sold. Not because our phones couldn't actually run it.
My phone has no been faster than it is now, with JB. Blame the ROM, not the OS or the hardware.
After coming from slim ics 4.2 I also noticed slowdowns almost everywhere such as app opening, entering settings etc. On the other hand I felt the same with early and not so early ics roms like icssgs, and always went to gb roms after day or two because of slowdowns, lack of toggles etc.
Then I tried slim ics 3.x and never looked back. Same will probably happen with jb, first builds are ummature but when devs look deeper into sources and find differences and optimization for sgs, the phone will be beast
I just hope there will be other option for handling the limited space in internal flash memory than removing datadata altogether, as jb seems to improve touch and animation smoothness there is little Google can do to improve I/O performance.

JB is not the end!
Hey Guys
I am using JB at the Moment, too (TAJB v6). I tested every JB ROM for our SGS from start, and in my opinion, the GNex ports were the fastest and also very stable, but unfortunately, the people want to move forward to CM10! Anyway, JB is definetly not too much for the SGS! Everything feels fast and smooth, exept of the randomly occuring super-launcher-lags. If this happens, just kill the Launcher Task or reboot. I think JB is not the last update for our SGS!
The clue in most cases lies in the term Alpha! You flash Alpha roms you are in effect becoming a tester, so don't grumble....work towards finding solutions and posting relevant feedback and bug reports

this slowness is because v6 is based on pawitp's CM10 build which has datadata deleted and used instead of it slower data/data.
try derteufel's JellyBean v2 - it works like a charm!
[jRO03C] OFICIAL ANDROID 4.1.1 (JELLY BEAN) GNEX STOCK ROM (16/07/12)
I'm on [jRO03C] OFICIAL ANDROID 4.1.1 (JELLY BEAN) GNEX STOCK ROM (16/07/12) since yesterday and it is still smooth as babyskin. No slowing down trouble.
Only issue is my BLN does not work anymore, probably because of one little setting
Fixed the BLN issue,I had to RTFM Enable pulsating notification light.
Found one other issue, volume during phone call is loud and cannot be changed.

For those with lots of lag I recommend flashing again. I was on CM10 Alpha and it was super slow. Couldn't believe people were saying it was fast. Flashed Slim Beans which was also slow. Figured either people are crazy or it's me. Even read something about older phones having slower memory than newer ones etc.
Flashed Slim Beans a second time and this time there is no comparison. Now it is much faster. In fact it is almost like having a different phone.
I'm on [ROM GNEXUS PORT] jro03c 4.1.1 beta 4 [oficial jelly bean stock rom] and at first it's sluggish as hell...after a while it does begin to work a little bit smoother....but then again, it's nothing compared to other ICS 4.0.3-4.0.4 custom roms out there....it still needs a lot of work.
It has nothing to do with datadata and everything to do with the fact that project butter hasn't even been implemented yet. For example I use slim and it is super fast, it has no datadata.
Also we need a driver update and until we get that no butter for us.
Plus its an alpha build. Give it a break.

vSync is not working yet. Also all JB releases are currently signed "Alpha" or "Beta", so what do you expect? They are not (yet) made for being used as a daily driver. Thanks to the devs, the development will continue
BTW: I also tried all current JB ROMs but they are still too unstable for me. It's nice to see that the i9000 can run them but actually they are not that stable yet.
yea it`s slow
i`m using JR003C it seems so slow and the network signal is down sometimes..:confused
There is a fix for the slow V6 on teamjellybean.noez.in but this is down for now... Wait for V7 and it will be smooth i think.

Android 4.1.1 / Cyanogenmod 10 - Your impressions

I want to know what you guys think of the new Jellybean ROMs that we've all been blessed with. Are you happy with it? Any comments, anything? Just wanted to hear what you all think about the new OS on our tablets.
Personally I love it more than anything. Honeycomb and ICS have been nothing but pure lag, from stock ROMs to custom ROMs. I never thought I'd see the day this tablet actually performed smoothly, so when Jellybean first arrived (and pretty damn fast, as well), I was excited. Tried the ROM and loved it, it's just ridiculously smooth, and it works. Now I still get lag playing MC3 or Monster Life, but those are heavy games and Gameloft is pretty ****ty when it comes to properly making an Android game so that's excused. But other games like Dead Trigger work without a hitch, and emulators no longer suffer either. And just for being Android, it gets even better since I can use a wireless mouse over USB OTG, a BT keyboard, and a PS3 controller for games and emulators. All thanks to Jellybean, my tablet is awesome now
And also a thanks to MapleSyrup and pershoot, for the two that gave us Jellybean ROMs at all
Yes, i like cyanogenmod 10, it's smooth and I haven't really noticed any over the top bugs...Battery life could be better but i prefer to sacrifice battery for that smoothness... And now that leads me to Samsung and their ****ty update plan...I mean come on i have waited 8 months to get ICS that lags like hell and doesn't play youtube videos correctly?...They should have just skipped ICS and focus on jelly bean...Other tablets are getting jellybean and we just got ICS, wonder how much will it take them to provide the stock jellybean...another 8 months?(i'm a fan of touchwiz that's why i *****...and i don't want a 7 inch tablet(nexus 7)).
I Skype lots so need a working camera. Can't wait till CM10 has the camera driver. Any word on wheh this can be expected ?
I have cm10 and it seems so fast but a Quadrant test must tell it's value...the previous tests show that ICS is faster but JB's graphics are better...
Now that the rear camera is working the ROM is worth flashing(I never use the camera but couldn't bear it's loss...).
What do you TouchWiz fans think about putting it on the JB?it seems possible, doesn't it?let me know... ...

The reason Quadrant scores are lower in JB is because JB puts the UI at a higher priority, basically to keep the whole thing smooth. Antutu's latest update takes that into account and as far as I know, it's the only benchmark app that has been updated for Jellybean.
I keep installing ROMs on here to find the smoothest reliable ICS or JB, and CM10 is working beautifully for me. I especially like the subtle mods, like weather on the lock screen, email count in status bar, ability to enter settings without the app you were in being closed by the system, three action lockscren... the list goes on.
Definitely gets my vote unless you can't live without camera.

I'm very happy with CMX. I'm glad I like it because I'm having a lot of trouble trying to go to other ROMs right now for the sake of checking them out - but I'll tell ya, there are probably way worse ROMs to be stuck on! I also have CMX on my S2 and am so in love with JB I don't know if I want to go back from a daily driver perspective.

I actually used CM10 Preview by pershoot and was highly impressed by the performance and smoothness. However, I recently started to require skyping for work related meetings so had to switch back to ICS 4.0.4. When JB works with front camera, expect me to be the first in line.

Android 4.1.1? which one? confused like hell!?
Maybe it is only me confused here. and this is my first post, so be gentle
so I got excited when Samsung finally release Android 4.0.4!, could not wait so I downloaded UK Galaxy Tab 10.1 wifi (I have US one).
all good, but still not smooth, slow, then realize we need Android 4.1.1 (I have Google Nexus 7)...so jumped here, checking JB ROMs. that's when I start get confused. which one should I download that has less bug? Android 4.1.1 - CyanogenMod 10? or Toldo's JellyBeanRom ICS v5? or MapleSyrup's JellyBeanRom ICS? when you read each post (usually hundreds of replies), you even got more confused...
don't take me wrong, I love what our developer is giving us! even if this my first post, I already donated. however, it would be so helpful if there's new thread that lists all JB ROMs, and clearly outlines what works and what does not works, of any additional fixes. Now my galaxy tab 10.1 sitting there, staring at me, and dying to get on JB
Cheers to all:good:

I've been using CM10 builds from Pershoot and I've been really pleased. Fast, responsive, and all the apps I use day-to-day work beautifully. Battery life is trouble-free. I do occasionally get lockups, but I'm too lazy to try to identify how -- a lot of the time, it's opening large PDFs. Otherwise, most tasks are trouble-free. Rear cam works beautifully.
Unfortunately, I'm cursed with an SCH-i905 -- and no 4G LTE until Samsung gets off their ass and releases source that pershoot can merge. When that day comes, I will wet my pants in excitement.
I have a 4G LTE phone as well, so I just tether the tablet, and life is grand... but I sure would love to have it natively working on my tab. For a few months I had to revert back to stock HC on it because I needed the 4G... now that I've switched back to CM, I've been very happy.

It is CM10, even the developers hate to hear it called CMX... This is Android, not Crapple!
For me, it is running great on both my tablet and my phone minus the occasional scrambled boot on my tablet (never happened on cm9 or any other roms) which I still get after updating to the official ICS boot loaders. But, it seems way more polished and complete then the early versions of CM9. I have made it my daily driver on both devices. Battery life is better than 4.0.4 also as long as you turn off Google now and so e of the location services. It will only get better with time...
BAHA - Crapple.
Yeah sorry about that - it does say CM10 in my sig, I just got lazy typing last night. My bad.

So Crappie owns the letter X? I use it as a roman numeral when abbreviating CM.
Also, I'm curious, what difference do the ICS bootloader provide? Is it a noticeable improvement?

Haha, of course they don't own it... I just heard entropy tell someone in another thread not to call it cmx Since the boot animation that coined the cmx name is in no way official and they (cm10 dev team) have never called it that. If people are searching for answers about cm10 and people are calling it cmx, it may confuse users and make them think cmx is something different. We all know it is not, but we should all be using the real name for consistency purposes, right? I didn't mean to be an a**, just stating the facts.
Whereas CM10 is still in alpha stage, I can say that it works very well! This promises to be the best ROM.
I was running MapleSyrup's AOSP JellyBean build for about a week and then switched over to pershoot's CM10. While I found they were very similar I stuck with CM10 because it feels a bit smoother. I had a little issue with a scrambled screen when booting where only for a second or two the screen was rolling but cleared up afterwards. I did not have a rolling recovery screen. I updated the bootloader to the ICS version and it's been great since. I also haven't had any SOD's either when charging overnight or just sitting there.
The only issue which I still have is Youtube HD videos get very choppy and this happened on both JB builds.
But another good news tidbit is that HBO GO was updated to support JB and that was the only thing I was missing since running an ICS rom. And it seems to work perfectly!
So, thanks go out to Maple and pershoot and all the other devs out there that contribute to getting us up to speed. I was just over my dad's house and updated his GTab to ICS for him and all the while I was chuckling because I've been running JellyBean for a while before he even got ICS!

I am on MapleSyrup's AOSP JellyBean, and you said "updated the bootloader to the ICS version"? I am a little confused. .how do you do that? what the benefit? I am assuming when you said bootloader to ICS version, you meant latest ICS stock?

Which Jelly Bean ROM you have on your Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wifi?

I believe there are three major JB ROMs development going on as far as I can see. Some JB ROMs have more issue than others, some does not. And we are so grateful for these developers taking time and giving us these ROMs. and we should encourage them more, so please donate and say THANK YOU.:good:
and now, I am dead curious who's using which JB ROMs and their feedback, what they run into, issues, suggestions etc.
if anyone gives their feedback here, this would be wonderful for average users who's looking around and trying to figure out each of these JB ROMs.
Looking forward your valuable responses!

First of all, the first link is an ICS ROM not JellyBean.
With that out of the way, both CM10 and AOSP are running the same kernel so you will not see much difference in performance. CM10 with have more features then AOSP will have because AOSP is a "pure" experience from Google source.
It depends on your preference but I like CM10.

Rear Camera works at the moment for AOSP and CM10. That is why I said the kernel is the same. Right now, pershoot is working on getting CM9 to RC status and then will be working on fixing the front camera and other fixes.

I'm using CM10 and facing problem like original 3.1 ROM that I let it charging over night and the tab dead could not re-star again .I have to open the back cover removed the batteries socket and put it back and can star again ,is happened to me 3 times .
And other problem is Google play not working properly many time I put the install button but it not response .Almost other works perfect.
I'm using CM 10 and have been for about a week now.
Very nice!
My thanks to all the geniuses that made that possible!
I am, however, considering replacing it with a ROM that allows Flash. Unless I can find a way to get Flash working. Amazon Instant Video runs on Flash, which makes me wonder what they are going to do when the Fire upgrades to JB...
I don't use the tablet much, as my GNexus (also running CM10) does all I really need to do, but I do use it for videos and games.
Can I get any recommendations on whether I should switch to something like Galaxy Task, or just go back to ICS?

I downloaded Flash directly from Adobe's site as they pulled out from Play store. I was looking for it, and then read couple of posts, and they said download it directly from adobe. I am attaching Flash apk file here that worked for AOSP ROM that I have on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 wifi (GT-P7510). It is a bit laggy, but it works. Chrome browser has some issue with it too, in fact on Google Nexus 7 has the same thing, so believe it is generic Google JB thingy.
I flashed with AOSP ROM on my galaxy tab (GT-P7510 wifi), and have been using for several days. I was planing to go back to original stick ICS (USA), but decided to not to because it made my galaxy tab (GT-P7510 wifi) very fast, and buttery smooth! it is almost feel like I got 'new' tablet. Even my wife, when she picked my tablet first time after I flashed, said Wow what did you do!? (she has new iPad!). Anyway, so far did not notice any issue (other than we all know front cam does not work), but again I have not done any heavy testing or heavy games yet on it.
I picked AOSP ROM over CM10, because I like pure Google JB experience (like my new Google Nexus 7!). I am closely monitoring the developer threads for any new update. I know they demonstrated working front cam, but it seems like it breaks other part, so I am sure it will be get fixed soon
I've been using CM10 since MapleSyrup started it and continued with pershoot taking over. I really like how nicely it works and the good outweighs the few times for the wifi dropping out or the sod after charging. pretty easy/fast to just reboot so it doesn't matter too much.

Well, I have HP Touchpad with WebOS and Android CM9 installed. Even if there are several issues on TouchPad using CM9, I can still live with it, after all I switch from WebOS to Android to play some games, so considering simple reboot or turn on airplane mode on and off to fix Wifi dropping issue is not really deal breaker for me. It is the JB's smoothness and how fast it is what really attracts me the most.

[Q] Might get the Razr M, some questions

I am planning to get either this phone or the Razr HD next week and leaning toward this one (mainly because of the size). I just wanted to get user opinions on it before I make the leap.
I read in several places that the stock jellybean update ruined the battery life. Is it true? How have custom roms been doing in this regard?
Is bluetooth working (fully) in custom roms? Bluetooth seems to always be funky on custom roms, it would be nice to see it working properly here.
If you had the chance again, would you get this over the Razr HD?
Thanks for your input.

I am planning to get either this phone or the Razr HD next week and leaning toward this one (mainly because of the size). I just wanted to get user opinions on it before I make the leap.

You two should get together & find out how to get a previous version unit.

haven't heard about battery life dropping from the recent update (I think the update was to solely install the security patch to prevent unlocking).
stock battery life (4.1.2) will always be superior to the custom ROMs (4.2.2), but the battery life on these ROMs are quite good enough to get you through the day and then some (personal experience will vary, of course).
for me, bluetooth works just fine, even on custom ROMs.
I still would get this device again, as I enjoy the smallness of the device.
Don't get it and wait for the newest version of this phone. You will be happy either way, but MUCH happier with the droid mini. Comes out in a couple weeks.

For me bluetooth is working fine - mostly......
The one problem I have is using bluetooth for streaming music in my car. I start audio streaming and all of a sudden my BT connections starts randomly dropping and reconnecting.
It works fine for me on the stock 4.1.2 ROM, but none of the custom 4.2.2 or 4.3 ROMs that I've tried work right for me. If anyone finds a custom ROM or kernel that fixes this, please post some info about it.

What ROM is everyone using as their Daily Driver?

Hey Guys!
I am pretty new to the world of flashing ROMs, and am trying to experiment as much as I can! I recently rooted my phone (myTouch 4g) to escape the HTC Sense bloatware and kind of escape the gingerbread environment and use custom ROMs that people have developed. Of course, I've had my phone since 2010, and its been working great since. Not looking forward to getting a new phone anytime soon (it does what I want it to do well).
That being said, I currently am experimenting out CM7.2, was curious to hear what ROMs people who use the myTouch 4G as their daily drivers use. I am considering trying out one of the ported CM10.1 ROMs later tonight.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you guys!

Last Cyanogenmod 7 nightly.
I might also recommend Coderzs 4.2.2 Slimbean, Team Inferno's ShenduOS 4.2.1, or my AoCP 4.2.2 lol.
For ICS I recommend Synthetic Nightmare's AOSPx. Also I'm porting a CyanogenMod7 Type of rom, but with more features
Whatever I tried to install on it (including few JB-based ROMs) I always go back to CM7. Anything else is either less stable or uses battery or something is not working well (like camera on JB).

I use Albinoman's 8/24 build of AOSP 4.3 / CM 10.2. It has a few very minor issues but in daily use I find it's very stable...
too stubborn
Too stubborn to use CM7 I fought installing it and keep working with SlimBean 4.3 even though it is still buggy, well mostly for me. I should just back down to 4.22, but hmm here comes that stubborn issue.
I was on a small vacation, and now am about ~7 days till I move into my college dorm and start my college life. Here are few things I figured I should mention:
I am currently using the CM10.1 AOSP JellyBean ROM by albinoman887 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40665477), so far, its been awesome!
Though, there are few concerns about this ROM as a daily driver:
1. The battery life, it really does die out way too fast. It obviously is a concern for me, being in college, I would like to have something mobile and something that can last me an entire day without having to plug my phone into a charging unit. Of course, I was not expecting a perfect ROM for battery life that would be capable of running the latest Android, so all in all, the battery issue evens out, and should not be a shocker to anyone trying out the ROM.
2. I currently am running everything off of a 8GB Micro SD card, which is now full (I am waiting for my 32GB card to come in within the next few days), but when I do use apps such as SnapChat, or Instagram, it prevents me from using my camera with various errors every time. I suspect this to be the full SD memory card, I will make sure to post an update on this issue.
3. The ROM itself is FAST. I mean FAST. It really sets a definition of "multi-tasking" on the myTouch 4G.
There is a new September update for this ROM (I am going to install this update once I get my new SD card) and will also touch on how the update is, and what was resolved. As of right now, this ROM is beautiful, does require a bit of elbow geese to configure the settings to your likings, but that is the payoff.
I have tried CM7 briefly, escaped the ROM, its the most stable ROM anyone can ask for, but I personally don't want to go back to Gingerbread.
Thanks a lot XDA forums for allowing the opportunity to mess with our phones!
I bought myTouch 4g about 2 years ago. Sense Rom was installed for most of its lifetime; mysense (stock), Sense 3, then Sense 3.5, and now sense 4.1. Currently using ViperTouch 2.1.4 sense rom it is the most stable sense rom I found where all the hardware are functional. Battery life has not bad when keeping in 2G mode. I switch it to 3G with I need to browse something. Before ViperTouch I used CM 10.1 from albinoman887 for about 3 month to try out JB, it was really smooth and clean lightweight. I decided to go back to Sense after headphone heatup, camera and mic not working properly. I tried out CM 10.2 Android 4.3 albinoman887, it was smooth for the most part, but i couldn't use it as daily driver same 10.1 issues were resolved. So Sense 4.1 ICS is my current daily driver.

I am using AOCP now but currently looking for a bug-free ROM.
As far as I know, there are still a few bugs in 4.2.2 including:
1. Headset heat up when plugged in.
2. Green line in camera.
3. Signal drop after a missing call.
4. Camera flash delay.
Is there any 4.1 and above ROM without those problems? Please let me know. 1. and 3. is really annoying to me. Thank you!
I am using PAC rom . it's really awesome

I think AoCP only has the Signal Drop?

Yes, but it's a little bit annoying so I'd go back to a bug-free version
And somehow the game I'm playing (Rage of Bahamut) doesn't display right in some screen.
Tried ShenduOS and everything looks great. Until I find the 'phone' is not working, lol.
Hey guys!
So, I have been rocking this current ROM for a while now! I must admit, I've had few problems recently, but so far it works and gets the job done. I am now in the process of debating if I should revert down to one of the most stable ROMs for this phone (CM7.2) or to continue rocking this current ROM and try to see if I can help in terms of fixing current issues.
My classes start tomorrow! I will post an in-depth update on my issues this weekend!

Keep an eye on N_otori0us_, he's been really making some moves trying to fix 1. 2 you usually see patches from OP's in thier thread to fix it.
At least you don't have the screen flicker bug also.

If you see a bug in my roms. Tell me lol.
There's a fix for green line that coderzs made. And the. 64 is a temporary fix for the headset heat.
Not sure what else to fix though...

putting work in
I was referring to how you are trying to fix the headset issue overall, not how you have any bugs in your roms.
Now I've been using PACman_GLACIER 19.3 for 2 weeks. Very stable, fast and no bug (except sometimes when it boots up, Link2SD notifies me to hot reboot to make SD partition mount)
You should check out the links in this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2429325
Especially those of you who like ViperTouch. They are from a Chinese forum so you'll need to translate but the ROMs can be set to English on setup.
I might call it an end with my current ROM... it is currently becoming way too unstable for my abilities as a daily driver. Current issues include:
1. Battery life - I literally drop from 100% to 60% in a matter of 2 hours only using Wi-Fi for browsing the New York Times.
2. Phone screen flickers when locked (may be linked to battery life)
3. Certain apps that require a camera just do not cooperate
4. Green like in all pictures + picture quality not the same versus when the ROM was installed freash
5. Crashes and freezes a lot
Overall, this ROM was good, but as time progressed, its performance decreased as well.
Currently about to try Albinomans latest Jelly Bean ROM, or even try out the AoCP rom!
