Samsung S4 Unroot and stock system status - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, all i am currently running rooted echoe rom v10 on my samsung s4 I9505. however, i want to revert my rom back to stock and would like to revert the system status to official.
can this still be done? or has the new 4.3 changes made this not possible?
thanks, any input is much appreciated.
PS :
i have reverted to a rom with a stock talexop 1.3 kernel and have attempted to reset binary counter using triangle away without any luck./
i have checked in odin mode, and i do not have anything which states knox. so i am assuming i have the old bootloader.
could someone please advice whether this can still be reset?

Bump anyone?

I just tried resetting the binary counter, using triangle away without any luck? i have reverted to a rom with a stock rom and have attempted to reset binary counter without any luck./
could someone please advice whether this can still be reset?

[Q] Flash counter warrenty

Hey there
Will using TriangleAway to reset the counter and flashing to stock with ODIN definitely mean that service people will not be able to tell the phone has been modified at all?
Its possible there's a hidden counter but what we can't see we can't guard about...
I would also suggest to hard reset(factory reset in options) completely to reset all statuses..

If you simply boot in to "Download mode" the phone will show if you have an official or custom binary.... there is no counter...just says custom or official. ..so just do a firmware flash via odin and then a hard reset (optional) ... then check your binary via download mode...I'm sure it'll be reset to official
Good luck hope this helped
Imgoing to test it
Thanks Bro....
:good::good::good::good:
Also in settings go to About>Status and at the bottom it will show either "Official" or "Custom"... This is the bugger that's hard to change...

Im pretty sure there is a counter, It shows up in the triangleaway app
You have to do it this way.
1. Make sure you have a stock Samsung kernel and recovery (triangle away needs it to work on the s4).
- It may be easiest to flash stock firmware and then root again.
2. Once you have stock kernel and recovery and are rooted you can run triangle away. Make sure you follow the instructions carefully as it's a different procedure from older devices.
3. Flash stock firmware that your phone came with. I've discovered the hard way that Samsung service centres match the serial number to the firmware version as another means of checking for software modification.
4. Factory reset.
If you've done everything correctly you'll have official binary/status normal in download mode.
I've done this procedure myself and can confirm it's 100% working.

[Q] galaxy s4 gti9505 WAS rooted but cant change status back to normal

hi all, as you can tell, im a noob well, I have a samsung galaxy s4 gti9505 that I rooted with odin WHEN I had a pc, and it just so happens, whenever I root an android, it works but then things start to go wrong like lagging, freezing, drainage of the battery really fast ect. So this time I decided to google how to unroot my phone without a pc to fix my problem. I did that using super su or something which had the unroot option witch I did successfully. But just a few moments ago, I was just checking to see if there were any updates available for my phone because my camera decided to stop working, (well the camera works but when trying to record, a pop-up box appears saying camera failed). So when I tried to update, it said that I cant update because my phone is modified, now as stated above, I am a noob to this subject so please be patient with me trying to comprehend the technical terms use will use hahaha. Can someone please explain to me if it is possible to change the status from custom to normal without the help of a computer? Thanks in advance
help meeh please
Can anyone help?
I don't understand why you want to return back to stock without computer/laptop. In any case following instruction will help you to return your S4 back to stock:
1.First you need to download official firmware for your region from this site: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/
2. Second upload it to phone with Odin http://www.andromint.com/download-odin-latest-version/
If needed you can also use Triangle away to reset custom flash count.
That's all...
.
Dear all,
I have a similar question.
I've rooted my i9500. I wonder is there any way to roll back my phone like Triangel Away etc. I mean in case of any guarantee situation.
As far as understand, as of now no way to reset.
I hope someone can find a way to reset everyhing to get warranty back.

You don't need to un-root before flash ... you will for sure lose root anyway

Is there any way i can download at more than 200KB's?
http://puu.sh/4YTbL.png
Cause the captcha for the rom download on the link says it's wrong even when i type it right..
I must do something wrong here, because it's not working for me.
I followed the instructions and device still says it is modified and it will not check for updates from samsung.
What is my next step?
Procedure so far:
Gained root acces with ODIN
I did not flash a custom rom.
Used Triangle away to reset counter (counter checked 0 afterwards)
Flashed Galaxy stock firmware downloaded from internet (PHN-I9505XXUDMHB-20130922121848.zip unpacked this once) with ODIN
Furthermore, regarding KNOX reading:
KNOX KERNEL LOCK: 0X0
KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0X1
(I suppose the latter means Samsung still is able to see I did something)
Would a hard reset solve this issue do you think?

[Q] 19505 Device status custom after trying to go back to stock

Hello Xda,
Yesterday i tried to get my phone back to stock after having cm10.2
I follow for that this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265477
After i got the stock rom flashed (i9505xxubmga), i rooted it with CF Autoroot,
Than i used triangle away and unrooted the device.
So after that when i rebooted and thought my phone would be fullyback to stock.
but some how after that when i check my device status it says that its custom..
If i try to update the software it says: your device has been modified software updates are not available
Did i do something wrong?

Hmm, it looks like a software/firmware issue, but if you have already used a PIT file and flashed a stock ROM, that's unlikely
Do you have a MicroSD card installed? Maybe try removing that and see if it still happens
If you are still under warranty, and KNOX is 0x0, I'd send it back for repair if all that fails
If KNOX is 0x1, or out of warranty, give TWRP 2.8.7.0 a flash with ODIN, and try flashing a custom ROM, see if that sorts it
If it's still doing it with custom, then all that's left is a hardware fault

maybe i missed something can you please give me link of tutorial how to flash firmware
i flashed firmware from sammobile, com using odin Ap selection in odin 3.10 file size is more than 2gb of rom that i flashed did i miss something in this process?? after install i also factory reset and mobile is not in warrenty and i donot want to trip knox as i use knox app
That's the right way to flash firmware, ODIN and ROM from sammobile, and if you used a PIT file, that is the most thorough method
You should have had a 100% like new, factory reset phone once it was finished if you used a PIT file
Not much good having 0x0 KNOX if you can't use the phone though
Pit file method

After flashing the stock firmware through Odin, you must perform a full wipe via the stock recovery. See if it solves the problem.

SM-G900F Downgrade problem

hello everyone
3 days ago I bought a Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F and the pre-installed OS was Android 5.0 Lollipop
I wanted to downgrade to KitKat 4.4.2 but when I flashed the 4.4.2 firmware at the end of The Flash the phone Rebooted but but there was nothing on the screen and the phone was stuck on a boot loop so I reflashed the lollipop firmware and everything worked
The question is it possible to downgrade to kitkat 4.4.2 knowing that the preinstalled firmware was Android lollipop 5.0 for rooting purposes to keep knox 0x0
thank you very much
The problem with using Odin to downgrade is that it doesn't fully erase what was on there before, it just overwrites it......
Did you try to wipe data in recovery after the flash? Sometimes this is all that is needed.
If you did, and it didn't help, then it may be necessary to flash a pit file at the same time as the firmware.
Before you flash anything with Odin, go to download mode to double check which model you have.....There have been a number of cases recently where devices have been 'rebadged' so that what is displayed on the sticker under the battery does not match what is displayed in download mode (download mode is correct).......

yes it does show SM-G900F in download mode
where can I find a pit file
and just for info when I flashed the 4.4.2 firmware there was nothing on the screen even in download mode I could enter it because the keys combination is well known
You can get the pit file in post 3 here....

Is there any risk on flashing the pit file
I just want to know before I proceed
Thank you very much for your help
There's a risk to any flash, but as long as your device matches the pit file you flash, you should be ok.....having said that, flashing a pit file carries a potentially greater risk than flashing a firmware/rom as it 're-maps' the data partitions.....In the case of a pit flash, if the flash is interrupted because of a power cut off or a premature device disconnection, the phone will be absolutely irrecoverably bricked......

the problem now is that when I flash kitkat 4.4.2 the phone does boot up but there is absolutly nothing on the screen
Do you have any idea?
thanks for all the help
When I downgraded from LP to KK, the first attempt was unsuccessful, the phone wouldn't boot at all
I did nothing else apart from flash it again exactly the same way, the next boot was fine and I was back on KK
You might need to factory reset after flashing, it's possible some apps are causing problems with the boot if they are not compatible from LP > KK

Factory reset first then
But if the screen is just black, not even the initial logo, then something else is wrong
Why flash KK anyway, there is a MM stock ROM port available for the G900F now

Nothing, I tripped mine ages back, everything still works
I read it might affect joining enterprise networks/domains, but never tried and don't use them
Try a different KK ROM, I assume you're trying the latest version atm?
It *might* affect OTA.....Some people say it does, others say it doesn't.....
But knox's main function is to prevent insecure devices from connecting to secure 'enterprise' business servers/networks.....basically if your employer expects you to be able to bring your device to work, and connect it as a business tool, you will no longer be able to do so.....*and* if the device was supplied by your employer, you could end up in all sorts of s**t with them too.....
http://i.imgur.com/rVnFwJM.jpg
Doesn't affect OTA, only custom (Root/Recovery) breaks OTA
Anyone saying tripped KNOX breaks OTA hasn't flashed back to 100% stock before trying to update OTA, unrooting doesn't reverse the custom status
Thank you very much for your help
I gave up I installed TWRP and flashed a custom rom
I couldn't resist any longer
I don't care about KNOX nor the warrenty anymore
Poeple are very kind in this forum
much appreciated for all your effort
Curious, why were you trying to downgrade to KK when Android 6 is available for g900f? I downgraded once myself (without pit file) to KK early on when LP was new, but Android 6 is a nice improvement over both imo. KK4.4.2 still has security issues, namely stagefright. If you're happy with custom rom, so be it, just curious if you were (or not) aware of Android 6 availability for your device, incl debloated, stock based knox-free ROMs.
