Got My G-Note (gujarat India). My experience abt Rooting and Swapping device

Hey friend I am feeling very happy to announce, I got my G-Note just half an hr back
Here i have started post to express my experience to Root Device, and complete swapping from my old device (SGS1)
First of all i have still not paid for my device, but i shall give < 32K
Edit : DP is 32600K, + dealer getting many scheme, and who are have huge sale can get much discount and scheme, so purchase from bigger dealer to get more bargain. Sure you will get betwin 31.5K to 32K
Note : Flip cover not come inside box pack, so you ask seperately, it is complimentery from samsung.
As soon as i have switch On, i got msg there is 0.08MB update available, and i have updated OTA.
I have now baseband version N7000DDKJ3 , ginerbread 2.3.5
Kernel : XXKK3
Just Rooting finished, busybox and superuser pushed smoothly, it took < 5 min to finish total procedure
I have followed procedure to root device is here.
which was started by me earlier last week. I have at presently selected, "I want to just Root " methos in above said post. it was uneventful n finished in 5 min.
Rooting : Who want just to use specific application require root e.g faster fix, Titanium backup. You all need to follow "I want just Root" option, Still stock CWM will works with basic function e.g factory reset, update zip from SD card e.g. you will miss Backup/Restore ROM. for that you go with method 2 on above said post
Call Quality : Very nice compare to SGS, where it was horrible to talk without woodoo control plus
Camera Quality : Much better then SGS
GPS : Very fast, i never seen before this in any device so fast. first time it fixed in side my office in <20sec, accuracy 5mtr
even get fixed in my bedroom, which was never happen with my pevious SGS with fater Fix application. Here i dont req such kind of app to solve it.
Data swap from old android device :
Best job can done with Titanium backup
Here some guide for new user
When you swap application + Data from old device to new, dont restore system stuff. Contact can be managed with import /export, SMS can be done with SMS Backup/Restore applcation. Rest of system setting better you done manually
And restoing rest of thing best option is 'Restore User application with data' scenario.
Almost all application worked smoothly after transfering, except Asphalt 5 (lookin for fix)[edit: Asphalt 6 HD working fine, you can get free from samsung Appl]
Navigation best works. I have tried Sygic Aura, Navigon, N-Drive as well Goole world activated Map.
Native Indian Language support :
I can read Gujarati/Hindi language with stock browser

Which file did you use to root ,
as in your link it says to download relevant file.
and as per your post your firmware is KJ3,but there is no file linked for KJ3

I said, I have used "I want just Root" option, I have not installed CWM, so do not need to select file for kernel
just i have tried in recovery, stock recovery is working with these option

Rebbot
test band smthing
I dont think i do have need for extra option, as i am usually using stock ROM, so no need to have function to have backup/restore Rom
lets C, but according to chainfire guide you can use KK1

can you please tell us ketan if we can actually in fact use the kk1 kernel...i do not want to brick this *****...please...

I have ask same to ChainFire regarding MobileOdin software, which working on same base, his answer was
"I don't see why not"

CWM giving previlage to Backup/Restore ROM, as well to flash new firmware.
As i have mention, i am always using stock firmware. and keeping backup of my system/user app data with Titanium backup.
So no any more benifit for me to use CWM.
Just rooting is enough for me.
edit : ya some Chain Fire application can be use if you have CFroot, but really i never used it.

As now most the of Note in world are getting 2.3.6 upgrade, any idea when in India we will get official Android 2.3.6 upgrade?
Other thing, as of now My Note is taking around 5-6 hours to get charge, is that normal. I have done 3 recharge cycle.
The battery backup is also very less its around 8-12 hours, though i know its new and i am using more, but this is very less.

Sorry for bumping the old thread..Am experiecing the same problem as the above user mentioned..my note is also taking around 5-6 hours to get charge..am rooted lb2 firmware with lb1 cf kernel..any help guys?

are you charging through usb or AC outlet? are you using original charger/battery? i have seen a thread similar to this problem... dont remember what the final solution was.. just check in Q&A..
the average time to charge ur Note fully from almost zero is 4 hours..
also try charging switched off... gives a proper charge without interference..

Thanks for the reply. Am using ma laptop usb...am using original battery ad usb cable...wht would it be the difference in charing in ac outlet/usb?

Usb charge takes long time,compare to ac charging

however just a small concern regarding the price ... I bought this beast for a price of 30,200 INR 1 month back .... and 1 week ago it is available here for price of 28,700 INR .... M from bangalore ..... With Flip cover

Installed without a hitch. Doesn't seem to have any offset with the s-pen.

Agreed. No pen offset.

Got it this morning too. North America, Arizona.

Awesome news...except now I have to flash back to stock so I can get the NA update! Darn my impatience!!

do you know if we can flash it over the sphereengine 4.2.2 rom? will we ever be able to flash the civ kernel for 422 over this one? is a factory reset needed?

As there is no update in the kernel and framework there is still a offset, maybe it is not that great for you but for people using it for drawing it is.
Also look at the text cursor when using the s-pen in browser text (search bar) it is 3mm of to the left.

Yes as samsung didn't release a update it is still the same kernel source (with s-pen problem). And no no need for factory reset if you are already on 4.2.2.

now you gonna be mad at me asking this (again), but I will ask : I am on your rev 3.2 ROM, which is based on UK offical 4.2.2 ROM.
because it is UK firmware, having some issue with google play store, and some google apps since it takes i am in UK while my tablet is US base...that could be only reason I will flash offical 4.2.2 US firmware.
if I download US 4.2.2 firmware from sammobile and just odin flash over rev 3.2 ROM, would it cause too much issue? or you would recommend clean install?
p.s: I f...king LOVE your ev 3.2 ROM, hope you can have another version based on US firmware.....:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

I got the OTA update. The tablet now reports it is Android 4.2.2.
The good news is, I don't see the reported S pen offset (but I did only a short test.) I also appear to have been able to keep root (Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper).
BUT! Android 4.2 introduced multi-user capabilities. I cannot find such a feature in the Samsung version of Android 4.2! Did Samsung purposely remove features added by Google??? WHY?!? This was the ONLY reason I was looking forward to Android 4.2. I use my tablet for work, and I would like to have separate work and separate personal profiles. It's been nearly a year since this was made possible. I knew from previous Samsung tablet experience to expect Samsung to lag 2 major OS updates behind my Nexus devices, but I never expected them to actually REMOVE functionality from Android when they finally release an update.
Someone please tell me that I'm wrong, and it's in there somewhere and I just didn't find it!

It is not enabled by default by Samsung. it is even like that on official UK 4.2.2 version too.

I don't know about anybody else, but I can't enable multi-window...

I assume this is the same update that the UK got a few weeks ago? I flashed it for my US version and everything seems to be fine. Any reason to switch to this one?

I always update to the newest release, so rev3.3 of flexbeam release will be delayed by a week as I'm using this new release as base.
But a lot of work needs to be done, framework rework and other stuff.............

For a few reason (speaking for myself);
because using UK firmware, your tablet thinks it is belong to UK region, thus some apps won't display in google play store that's not available overseas such as Europe. That would be a problem, if you have paid apps (like I have) and they are not available in UK, then you can't able to download. And some apps displayed as euro pricing in app store, while in US play store prices are much lover!?
Second issue would be Amazon Kindle; Now, i have bunch of book purchased when I was on US firmware (the original) 4.1.2, when I flashed UK firmware (I am using Civ's ROM which is based on UK firmware), I realized some of my books not available, when I tried to download, Amazon Kindle prompted me that these books not available for the region..etc (can't recall exact message).
in addition, google services and apps acting a bit weird (nothing show stopper though)...while my Nexus 7 (US base) getting constant updates, my Note 8.0 is not always...
anyway, there are couple of things that quite annoying, so that coould be only reasons I would probably re-flash official US 4.2.2 firmware, but I just love Civ's ivZ-FLEX-BEAM-REV3.2 + SphereEngine ROM, that's only thing stopping me to flash US 4.2.2 firmware, but if reasons i tried outlined above start annoying more and more, I maybe back to official US 4.2.2 firmware until then hoping Civ's build another one based on US 4.2.2 come to rescue us...

OK...make my day and just tell me:fingers-crossed:; if there's good possibility that you may release rev3.3 of flexbeam based on official US 4.2.2 firmware?...I know asking you for another version of your ROM based on official US 4.2.2 firmware is quite selfish here since you don't have a lot of time...

How are you all getting this update? All day long the OTA with the device update has been giving either a 'wait in line' error or a network/server problem error. Trying to update via Kies has been a complete nightmare - maybe 1 in 100 tries it will show the update available, but then hang when trying to install.

I had to use Kies to update as the ota was unavailable or would have a server error.
Update looks fine, but the s-pen when going to point and select text has the line shifted to the left. However it still endes up in the right spot.
Adobe photoshop touch failed to launch and needed cache cleared. S-pen does have a visual shift left with text but still function and does end up where it should. No actual problems witn using photoshop or autodesk.

It won't let you, it doesn't work, or you are not sure how to enable it?
I can't seem to get daydream working, despite turning it on in the settings. Perhaps a reboot will help.

Thank you for confirming that s_pen isn't fixed. The offset of cursor is still there so they didn't change a thing in framework.
And no kernel changes so for people that want accurate drawingthe pointer it is still of to 5"clock. Again no framework and kernel changes.

[INFO] How to fix camera on KitKat 4.4

After trying everything that was ever suggested I still couldn't get my camera to work with any of the latest KK custom roms then I tried this. This was originally posted by NUT as a potential fix to the camera problem with his KK custom rom but I have tested it on a couple of others and it works with them all.
I started with unrooted and locked bootloader.
I am not responsible for you breaking your phone. Do the following steps at your own risk.
Required tools:
Flashtool 0.9.15.0
1.Make a backup of everything;
2.Download any 14.3.A.0.681 FTF (I used this one Xperia Z1 C6903 14.3.A.0.681 Commercial&Journalist) and flash it using flashtool, wiping everything, boot it and check camera, camera should work;
3.Download C6903_14.1.G.1.534_[NUT].ftf ,FLASH ONLY KERNEL AND SYSTEM;
4.Install XZDualRecovery 2.7.99 and then boot into recovery and flash the custom 681 rom of your choice, this will also root your phone;
5.Use flashtool to flash back the 14.3.A.0.681 kernel (I wasn't too clear on this so I just used NUT's C6903_14.3.A.0.681_Stripped.ftf and excluded everything except kernel);
6.Boot phone and check camera, still working;
7.Reboot to TWRP and restore your userdata backup (I didn't do this);
8.Boot phone and check camera and hopefully it should still be working.

Mine just can't focus?

Before I did these steps mines was out of focus but wouldn't take pictures at all, it just stuck like it was halfway through taking the picture. I can't really help with it just not focusing.

this is probably a stupid question, but what is a KK custom roms ?
I updated yesteday my z1 to 4.4.2, no root, locked bootloader. it's all stock.
I now have a problem in the camera. After a few shots, the camera freezes.
The problem you refer is the same?

Sounds like you have updated your phone with the official firmware. You can still do the steps in the OP, which will give you the added bonus of having root while on a locked bootloader.

Mine seems to go wrong at step 3.
When I install the 681 ROM, the camera seems to work fine, but when I go to .534, that's what seems to ruin the camera.
I an selecting, i.e. excluding everything except Kernel and System at this point
Any ideas.

Just a thought but are you sure you are excluding kernel and system and not selecting them?

I'm doing what you've indicated (I have tried both ways, thinking I'd misunderstood )
When step 3 finishes, my camera won't focus or take pictures in the camera app. The VR thing seems ok.

What version of flashtool are you using?

Hi,
It was the most recent (I was at work and just loaded it).
The problem was repeated several times, so I loaded 534, then followed the guide and went via 209(?), then 681 and all seems ok.

Ik still got the camera issue on Ub after a clean install...
Sound issue, volume up down key won't work..
Used Nut' s update, RomAur v6 & doomkernel.
Any help is appreciated

Probably won't be a lot of help, but I found that step 2 would fix the camera but step 3 always broke it and it stayed broke throughout the rest of the process, which is odd as 681 is supposed to re-address camera performance.
So I did a NUT .290 install and update that using NUT's .681 files. I guess I have 'stock' kernel (as supplied by NUT).
It may be worth a punt for you just so you can see that if it all works for you on .681 - although it's an hour of your life you'll never get back
As you can probably tell , I don't know enough to know if you could apply RomAur and doomkernel after this point.

Hi,
yes, i updated the phone with the official firmware.
The camera is now working good. I cleaned the user data in all camera apps, and after reboot the phone. It's solved.

After Nut's update, I flashed RomAur & Doomkernel v09.
This without reboot, between last two steps.
I think I better flash a rooted. 681. tft., or not?
Check if camera works, then RomAur again..

So, due to recent events (probably really young kids spamming the threads of various dead or no-longer-maintained ROMs) I have decided to make this guide. for everyone.

Unofficial CyanogenMod 11, compiled by @Unjustified Dev. dated june 4th, 2014.
Now, flashing this ROM is actually kinda difficult. We don't have an active official CM maintainer anymore and TWRP bricks people's phones. So here is the best method of flashing it. (disclaimer: if you're on the stock Samsung ROM, flash cm10.1 and refer to this guide if necessary. this is a clickable link.)
Now, after flashing cm10.1, follow these steps to flash cm11:
1. make a nandroid backup
2. wipe data/factory reset
3. flash cm11. you will probably get an error (probably along the lines of set_metadata_recursive). this is okay. reboot recovery. (advanced options in the main menu)
4. you might see some different bootlogos. this is a good sign. hopefully you'll see a clockworkmod version 6+. this is also a good sign.
5. repeat steps 2 and 3 and then flash whatever google apps package you want. the official one actually isn't bad. http://goo.im/gapps
After all of that, you should be good. If you do get bricked, fear not, you can always use Odin to flash the stock firmware again and use this guide if necessary: click here for the guide of wonderfulness
I dont actually own this phone anymore, so asking for help will probably get you nowhere. I'm sure Android L or whatever might be easier for us to work with unless the recovery devs have higher requirements for their stuff.

I was asking for a working link the other day for an old ROM.. Oh well, I am not a young kid though..This is what it will say when your successful. I rom'd a few times tonight on my kids phone and had no problems flashing through 4.2.2 to 4.4.2 ..

And thanks for the guide and the heads up last week on the cm11 stability. Its been a good ROM so far except I noticed I couldn't install the last update of minecraft PE 0.9.5 on my kids phone as he has had it since 4.2.2 running without issue. I tried to install the the zip on my phone too, got the files from apkgalaxy where I've been getting most paid apps for a while now. Only this ROM will not let minecraft install.. Weird.. when I didn't have this issue on DU 4.4.2, hellybean 4.2.2 , or avatar 4.2.2. And I also notice each time I download a zip from apkgalaxy as soon as I hit the download button, internet explorer and chrome both have issues closing out.. But I haven't noticed anything that would make me not want the ROM as its nice.

Is "flashify" the way to go now ? Or our tried and true method ? Just wondering .

I used flashify to flash a kernel that wouldn't flash in recovery. Than I also got another phone that was on cwm 4.0.6.1 a 4.2.2 build I believe to flash through ROM manager when I kept getting can't mount errors when entering cwm recovery. I used the rom manager to push TWRP than got it onto the 4.4.2 unjust 6/04 build its on now after a few cm11 flashes. So there are a few ways to go about it at least for me I've used a couple different ways when I didn't have my laptop handy and would screw up or get errors. Google always fixes my problems as dumb as I am too this all after 4+years of rooting. Still learning..

haven't tried flashify, plus i dont have this phone anymore, i upgraded to the s4. locked bootloader ;__;

Well, after many attempts I've only been able to get cm9 up and running. Tried first to Odin back to stock and then 10.1 ( using both droidstyles and the noob guide to kit Kat ) , also tried TWRP , without success. No idea what went wrong.

ok so when you flash cm11 using the cm10.1 clockworkmod image, it will give you an error. after that you have to reboot recovery and flash cm11 again
you have to flash it twice, especially when using clockworkmod. twrp i heard you can just flash once but you have to have a really recent version of twrp (2.6.3.0) and not only is that hard to come by for this phone but it can brick your phone.. i know that the cm11 kernel hhp made bricked my phone before, and i flashed that before cm11.. idk i probably wasnt supposed to

How doesn't ROM manager premium work on this phone? You know I'm dumb to all this so I take your advice serious on these things. Last night/this morning I reflashed his phone down to the slimroms 4.2.2 7/08 build though due to mine craft not installing on cm11 4.4.2. I had no problems going from the 4.4.2 back to a 4.2.2 . well i think why the "rom manager doesnt really work" statement goes around is that people would try to flash cwm through rom manager and it would actually brick their phones. that didnt happen to me but i did try it and the recovery couldnt mount anything aka it was a bad recovery. but if it worked for you, hey, that's actually pretty cool. might not work for everyone though

OK maybe I've been out of the flashing loop to long lol. I am a recovering flash addict , I tried many if not all of the cool newest roms using droidstyles guide. Guessing now I just need the most recent files for cm10 and cm11.

Still no luck. Can't get the cm10.1 to install today. Keeps aborting. Frustrating to say the least.

Damn. That is frustrating for sure. Its been a week and no luck, I can't help any more then I've read here and a few other fascinate forums. That's weird mine flashed to the CM11 without those errors on two devices mine and my sons. I took his from the 4.4.2 cm11 back down to a 4.2.2 ROM so he could play minecraft without using a computer/odin or usb for anything. I'm sure someone will help get it though.

Where do I get a stock ROM? I've tried many links but haven't been able to find one that works.

Have you ever thought that maybe we need the error to help you?
Im going to take a guess that its trying to read the build.prop and you wiped.
If so, then you need to remove the build.prop asserts from the updater-script
It shoudl be the first few lines.

i think he odin'd stock, then went to cm10.1, then to kitkat possibly using my method

Need advice: ROM or just Debloat?

Here's my deal: Someone handed me their S4 after a phone of mine got run over by a car. I've been using it for a couple of months with the stock Sprint firmware, and have been happy enough. However, compared to my old EVO LTE, I'm finding that the UI lags sometimes.
Since the EVO LTE is (I think, correct me if wrong) a generation older in hardware, I'm sure the S4 isn't living up to its potential with the stock software.
So here's my dilemma. I like the idea of starting over with a custom ROM, but I also sort of like some of the features in the stock software. The step tracker, for example, has replaced my fitbit. And the other day I was in a waiting room by myself and used the IR remote to identify the TV and change channels. That's pretty darned cool, and something I'd miss with a stripped rom.
Am I better off debloating the stock rom by rooting and removing apps I don't want/need, or should I start over with a lighter-weigh custom rom? On that note, IS there even a current light weight custom that retains most of the functionality of the original? I found some in my searches that sound promising, but it seems that since this device is getting on in its years there are some custom projects that got abandoned. Currently running stock Kitkat, I've been avoiding the system update to Lollipop since my brother's phone had problems after an OTA update to it on his LG phone. I could deal with Kitkat, (I haven't seen anything in 5 that blows me away versus what I have) but I definitely don't want to go back to an earlier version of the OS.
Advice/suggestions are welcome!

i used same sprint rom with lots of bloatware .. i found rom was too slow .. battery draining fast .. although stock rom has support every thing specially good for device hardware .. but samsung made touchwiz full of crap ..
so i couldnt survive with stock rom & just rooted my phone & got custom rom
Currently i am running Dirty Unicorn 5.1.1 ... its too stable too fast with good battery life

Does it have the stock support for the pedometer and IR remote? I know that usually the fastest and leanest roms ditch all the extras that aren't essential, but I'd like to still make use of the bells & whistles of the hardware!

Everthing is workable on 5.1.1 rom .. but rom must be stable -- like what i am using is dirty unicorn which is stable & support all sensors & hardware stuff !
you just need to search to get exact what you want with device like stock !

Like bilgerryan said, try Wicked X. He is the developer and believe me the support you get from him, their is no comparison. I been using it almost 2yers now. Wow time flies. He is always porting new stuff as it becomes available and you have many options of Wicked X to choose from. Did I mention it's fast and stable. Support both l720t and l720.

What all does the aurora kernel offer? Obviously it works with the wicked rom...
Any chance you would be willing to throw together a quick compilation of steps for installing wicked rom with aurora kernel (assuming aurora kernel has overclocking ). Also assuming that I am starting completely fresh with all stock software on this phone.
I think I understand most of what I need to do for installing twrp, backup, flash rom and kernel but I don't want to **** it up. Just want some software that runs more stable than the stock does and oc option with lots of options to recover everything back to stock if need be. Really want to have all my bases covered this time before even trying anything.
Oh any chance wicked rom has internal option to set SD card as primary for both storage and install with ability to select each separately. My onetouch had that and I loved it....

If you install wicked X, it will also installed Aurora Kernel and it will be Permissive from the start.

No, it doesn't have overclocking (No Touchwiz Lollipop kernel for this device has that feature yet) . Install instructions are in the first post, the Aurora Kernel is included in the ROM, and in post #3. All features are listed in the first post of the thread.
If anything gets messed up you can just Odin stock or restore your back up.
