Is there a way to add a toggle to turn off the 3G and only use 2G/Edge? I get ****ty reception at work and found that when I disable my 3G on my HD2 winmo, it more than doubles my battery life while at work then I turn it on again when I leave.
I have tried a couple of toggle wigets from market but they either dont only turn off 3g, or do nothing more than just bring up the sttings page where I still cant do it.
I only want to use 2G while at work as the 3G reception is poor and the radio uses lots of juice trying to establish a 3G connection.
Thanks,
Jeff
ignore my sig, I will change it soon.
Settings, wireless&networks, mobile networks, network mode, set it to gsm only. Wcdma is 3g, gsm is edge.

Thanks, but are you sure that only disables 3G and leaves 2G alone? I read somewhere that on GSM you only have voice and text messages.
I installed an app called Extended Controls and now I have to do a hard reset as I have no data connection.
Can you try this for me, put it on gsm only and see id you can still surn internet?
Thanks,
jeff
I promise it works lol. Mine is set that way right now and I'm using the 2g internet

Thank you, it seems to be working, but I had to hard reset to get my data back after installing that extended controls widget to toggle 3g with 2g. man, I really wish that worked.
And I apologize for asking a question in the wrong forum.
Jeff
No problem, I'm glad to help. Sucks that the widget forced a hard reset on you though. What happened?

Ok. I have had a little similar problem. With the default network options in cm7 nightly #115, I face a problem where if 3G signal is low (like 1point) it shifts to 2G automatically and downloads with 2G speed. Actually I can have 3G speed with that 1point signal too. I solved it by setting the network mode to 3G only. I don't know if there is an easy way to set the mode to 3G only but I will tell you how I did it.
Go to settings/cyanogenmod settings/interface/notification power widget (enable it)/widget buttons (select "toggle 2G/3G")/Button modes/Network modes. Here select "2G/3G only". That's all. Now you can toggle between 2G/3G only from notification power widget. Only negative point is if 3G signal is not available, you should manually toggle to 2G.
Maybe it helps.

Hi guys
I've been trying to do this since day 1 with this phone. At work I'm in a spot where I get 2 bars of 4G and it reverts back to 3G . This happens all day . Is there a way to turn on LTE only like you can turn on CMDA only?
thanks :good:

I don't think that's possible, as different areas are bound to have weak, strong or very strong signals.
Upppppppppppppppppppppppppp
IO do the opposite. Turn off lte because sometimes I'm getting weak lte but very strong 3g.
use the Telinfo App from the playstore

Finally
with the recent update on my s4, this is now not compatible to my device... any other alternative app? i used to use this a lot. now i miss my lte connection when im in the office.
Firstly, does your network support VoLTE?
VoLTE is not currently supported by any network in the UK, this means you cannot make or receive calls when on 4G.
What happens is when you make or receive a call, your mobile network forces you down onto 3G or even 2G.
Therefore if you find a way to force your phone onto 4G and your network didn't support VoLTE, you will never be able to make or receive calls.
Did it!!
"Advanced Signal Status" from the GooglePlay worked for me on latest 5.0.1 i9515 phone. It was a long time since i wanted to set it work like i needed.. Now my networks are in wcdma/lte only mode, working fine. Recommend!
P.S. Root/Superuser needed
Try adding this line to your features.xml in the csc folder:
<CscFeature_Setting_CustNetworkSelMenu4>LTEONLY</CscFeature_Setting_CustNetworkSelMenu4>
I'm currently using PA and looking for an easy way to toggle "Use 2G only" when I connect to a wireless network. I've tried tasker and llama, but they change the network mode when toggling back. I'm configured for 4G, so switching back to WCDMA doesn't help me much.
Thanks in advance.

What do you you mean with they changed the network mode when toggling back?
Swyped from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4
Tasker and llama have an option to toggle 2G/3G or wimax. When it executes the command to switch to 2G, it checks the box and switches network type to GSM. When you toggle it again, it unchecks the box but also switches back to WCDMA which is the default network type. I need the network type to stay LTE/GSM.

I don't use Paranoid Android but I'm pretty sure it has Quick Settings customization. You just go into Quick Settings menu and enable "Network modes". The older CyanogenMod power widgets have that toggle too.

PA has the same network modes that you listed, but LTE isn't one of the options.

LTE option only show up if you flash the LTE package that install LTE baseband and edit the build.prop to enable it. It's a separate toggle dedicated to turning on and off LTE only.

I have LTE auto-enabled. My issue, is getting an auto-toggle between 2G and LTE.
I don't know if you have downloaded and used power toggles. I use the power toggles widget and quite easily toggle 3g & 2g. Hope this helps.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
There is no CyanogenMod toggle to allow you to get directly between LTE and 2G, you have to first disable LTE, it will automatically go to HSPA after that, then you have to press the 2G/3G toggle to change it to 2G manually. I do not know of any other ways. In *#*#4636#*#*, you can select LTE/GSM, but I doubt it will work for your purpose either.
Thanks for some of the replies, but I'm NOT trying to change the network mode. My network mode is currently set to LTE/GSM and if I check the "use 2g only" (see screen shot) then the network mode switches to GSM only and back to LTE/GSM when unchecked. Any of the toggles listed by others above change the network mode and have no method to change the network mode to LTE/GSM.

I was able to do this with Tasker. I didn't realize that by default, Tasker will restore settings to their previous state when they exit the profile. Previously, I was trying to use a second profile to set the network mode back, and this is where I ran into problems. I also set up a second profile (along with the Secure Settings plugin) to enable/disable GPS when going between Wi-Fi.
Now, to just configure it to NOT switch the network mode while on a call.. I think there's an IF statement for that.
You can use secure settings with tasker to force lte also. That's what I do.

Good to know! Thanks
This won't be very helpful, but I found out AOKP have a specific 2G toggle, I would guess this means PAC rom should have it to. You can toggle between LTE and 2G, but switching it to LTE really means 'lte/wcdma/gsm'.

@eksasol Thanks, but I primarily use PA.
@frigidazzi I tried switching to LTE with secure settings, but it changed my network mode to GSM/CDMA. Can you get it to switch to LTE/GSM?
Yes. Mine goes to lte/gsm auto prl. I'm on radio .33. Using aokp 4.2.2 with newest Franco kernel. I'm not sure which is the trick to get it to work. I've never had a problem with it.

Thanks. I may play with it more later, but will probably leave it lie since it's working as I need it to.
All these changes are done via Build Prop!
Build Prop Changes:
These will show a Standered international 4G data icon for 3G/HSPA+ and LTE for LTE.

This is great and is working like a champ on my AT&T G3. It also unlocks the brightness and volume sliders in the notification pull down. We all know that the AT&T variant is missing those lol.
Doing this also gets rid of the annoying AT&T logo in the top left of the screen ?.
This is great thank you its working

Is there any way to get rid of the leaf in the left hand corner for battery saver besides turning battery saver off? I'm using the first mod.
on my optimus g pro (e980) it disable the tethering....somebody can confirm that tethering work once mod are done on the g3??
I don't have these two entries in my current buildup. So can i safely add them? What would be the default when you DON'T have them?
I did this to my att g3,everything is good... But now my WiFi does not save my settings.. I have to connect and enter my WiFi pw... Any idea or a fix for this....

Okay I tried this on my att g3,and this is what I found...
Changing...
country to CA
Operator to TLS
Does what it says but I'm having problems with my WiFi not saving, on reboot I have to reconnect to WiFi, it seems to forget the network... Also from time to time the screen sleeps, but I am unable to wake up the screen... And the only way is to pull the battery... The screen is black but I can hear items being selected as I touch the screen...
Changing...
country to US
Operator to OPEN
Everything works even the WiFi, but I lose tethering hack...
It's anyone on att g3 having these problems when changing build prop... Or does anyone know what I can do or any other build prop settings to get the international icons and menus... Thanks in advanced...

I'm on the AT&T G3 and I am using the international icons. I had the screen issue for the first day but after the phone settled for a day or two that issue went away. As for the tethering issue I am not seeing that on my device. I used it for about 20 mins to make sure it works and it's running flawless. Also no problems with my WiFi. I'm running ART but don't really know if that would make a difference.
On the att850 and had no problems with this tweak for a week. Yesterday my wifi settings started dropping on reboot. Changed this in the build prop:
wifi.lge.patch = false
Seems to save my networks now after a reboot
