A lot of us have had the device for at least week now so it would be a good time to post impressions after a bit more hands on time. I’ll start...
10 days in I’m still glad I got it but there are plenty of things that could be improved. I’ve been on HTC phones (Desire, Desire Z) before this running at different times standard HTC Sense ROMs as well as various versions of Cyanogen Mod and AOSP based ROMs. My views after 2 weeks of use:
* Loving the fact that Samsung appears to be treating this almost like a developer phone (ala Nexus) in terms of open bootloader, availability of source code etc. I’ve said my goodbyes to HTC precisely because of this.
* Based on the frequency of updates Samsung also appears to be focused on addressing issues. They are one if the first out of the gates for Gingerbread updates to their existing devices so I’m hoping they continue to focus on delivering on the latest versions of Android.
* Touchwiz is not as invasive as HTC’s Sense. It improves on stock android in many ways. My first Samsung phone so I can’t really speak of improvements over previous versions of Samsung ROMs but so far I don’t hate TouchWiz but I do find that they seem to take a lot of inspiration from Apple even when the standard Android implementation is better in some cases (I didn’t hate HTC Sense either but I did find it too far from stock for my liking). Having said that there are some totally brain dead decisions that Samsung appear to have taken which I just don’t get:
1) Default home screen on the left instead of the middle. Why copy Apple on this one when Android’s default makes so much more sense. I love having frequently used apps with a swipe to the right and an agenda widget on the left so I can get to both with a single swipe. Now I have to pick one.
2) Fixed icons at the bottom. I understand Phone and Apps being fixed but not messaging and contacts. I’d like to change those - hell, even Apple lets you change those. *** NEVERMIND *** See posts below. It CAN be edited.
3) Lock screen - talk about making something worse - this one takes the cake. Thank god for widget locker.
4) Dialer logs - I don’t want my SMS messages to show up on my phone dialer logs. There is no option to just view all calls without the rest of the stuff cluttering it up. (Yes I know I can switch to Dialer One but apart from this one major issue I actually like the default Samsung dialer).
* Wireless - Everything wireless about this phone has issues. May be a function of how thin it is but my experience so far:
1) Phone - Much improved after the latest firmware updates but data connection can take a while to latch on when moving out of WiFi coverage and sometimes just drops out for 5-10 minutes at a time for no apparent reason (even when the phone shows five bars in a strong signal area).
2) Bluetooth - The headset I have is not working well at all. Quality seems fine but every few seconds drops out or gets noisy for a second or so. The same headset works perfectly well with the HTC devices as well as with an iPhone.
3) GPS - Sometimes flawless but lock time is definitely a lot slower than the HTC devices. It also has a tendancy to lose lock a lot easier than the HTC devices. Other times it jumps around all over the place before getting a lock. Lots of weird behaviour here.
4) WiFi - Where other phones get weak coverage this one gets none. If you have strong WiFi signals everywhere you use the device this is not an issue. 5 Ghz also performs significantly worse than 2 Ghz.
* Battery life - It appears this phone has only 2 gears. A low gear for phone / SMS / push mail / browsing where battery life is excellent but then kicks into hyper-turbo mode if you use Flash video, games or anything taxing where it burns through battery life in no time. You can easily get through a whole day with power to spare if you stick to only the basic activities but best to use everything else while plugged in.
The reality is even with all these issues, I couldn’t give this device up. The power and speed coupled with the slim form factor and gorgeous screen are just too damn impressive and all the problems pale in significance. I might have had buyers remorse if the HTC Sensation was coming with an open bootloader and a slimmer profile but at the moment I don’t see anything that compares. I’m just hoping Samsung can fix some of the problems I’ve listed in software.
Regarding fixed items at the bottom: you can edit them from within the applications screen.

You can change those - Go to app drawer-> menu -> edit -> and drop the app you wants.

Nice honest and informative post. Most of the issues will hopefully be fixable once we start getting some custom ROMs I'm hoping. Or hopefully fixes direct from Samsung in regards to GPS, WiFi, and 3G. I guess time will tell.

Very puzzling that Sammy would have issues in key connectivity areas on such a high profile phone. Wonder if they''re all antenna related? As you say, hopefully not, and it's all solvable with SW.
Homescreen order
C'mon guys - it's not that hard to reorder your homescreens...
Just pinch zoom (helicopter mode) longpress & drag.....
Hope this helps you...

The issue isn't re-ordering. It's changing the default home screen from the left (on TouchWiz) to the middle (As on stock Android / Sense etc)

After my first day with this phone I switched to the the ADW Launcher, Samsung really didn't think the TouchWiz launcher through - not only the default homescreen being on the left, but also the fact that Apps in the drawer aren't sorted alphabetically.
I used to own the Samsung Galaxy Vibrant. It's disturbing that Samsung is still not getting the GPS working right!

I'm on the latest firmware but it's still pretty buggy...
I've tried switching to launcher pro but I still get crash reboots and loss of sound.
Last night I entered the pin and the phone just reboots.
I also loose the clicks on the pin screen. When this happens you have to reboot go get audio back...I tried playing an mp4 video with no sound when it was in this state and it just said unable to play. Of course it worked fine after a reboot...
So pretty buggy at the moment
mine has no bugs or what so ever, after 2 weeks of used i can never compare it to other phones performance either android or iOS,i used both before but this one is simply way above them..
no built in stock music widget was a dissapointment for me as well as the horrible lock screen style and the lag during wakeup..apart from that this phone is really amazing..but touchwiz needs some serious thought...

Agreed that this phone is as speedy and steady as the HTC Desire and iPhone 4 that I have owned. The trick to all these phones is that if you play around too much with settings, tweaks, launchers you are likely to get problems.
Been using the 2nd gen Moto G for a week and I've noticed the touch screen isn't as sensitive/accurate as my previous phone (NEXUS 4). For example, when I scroll (in Facebook, Chrome etc.), the app opens links and images if my thumb is over either one. It's the same with gallery. If I were to scroll then halt, it'll open the image under my thumb. It's doesn't happen often, but enough to take notice. I have to press slightly harder (compared the NEXUS 4) for the Moto's touch screen to register accurately. Can't use light touches reliably at all. Has anyone experienced similar/same issue?
Not an issue with me like this
Works fine
It is by no means bad, but it takes a little bit of getting used to. I'm guessing they'll fix it via OTA if it needs fixing.
I have noticed the same thing. I am also coming from nexus 4. I find these touch issues very irritating. Overall scrolling isn't as smooth as the n4 as well. I think scrolling could be related to the kernel configuration.

Strange, I didn't notice this issue before yesterday's OTA.
Will try other another wall adapter.
I'm currently using the Sony/Ericsson LwW adapter (5V/800mA).
My Moto G 2nd Gen had this issue too, but it also had problems where occasionally the touch screen would interpret scrolling as tapping and vice versa, in the end, I had to RMA it.
I had mentioned earlier that sometime scrolling would consider as tapping and would open apps/links etc. Some time tapping needed multiple taps. I just removed the screen guard and this problem is mostly not noticeable any more. Just thought this information might help some one.
My phone came with the official charger of 550 MA and I don't get any screen freezing while the phone is charging with it.
Okay, i had this problem too. However i got the phone replaced so now i'm using a different handset and the issue is resolved for me. At first even i thought that this is the problem related to the software but i started to notice this over and over again. So i spoke to flipkart and they agreed to replace the handset. So i suggest to all the people who are having this problem to get your phone replaced.

Did you have the problem even without a screen guard? After I removed the screen guard, I get this tap while scrolling may be only once a day. Normal sensitivity is far better without a screen guard.

As soon as i got the phone, i booted it up with the screen guard on that's when i first realise that there is a problem with the scrolling and tapping on the touch screen. I removed the screen guard immediately and even after that the scrolling was mistaken for tapping. Used it for a few days and still had the issue. It did not happen very often if I compare it with the screen on time, but it was enough for me to be pissed at. I would rate it at about 30 % of the time when im scrolling, sometimes in a music playlist or when i am browsing or scrolling just about anything.

I have another question. In the new phone do you see any stuttering or jitter while scrolling through apps. It harkens to me in many apps even on g+, scrolling through contacts, Facebook, Tapatalk etc. I know this could be software related. But just wanted to check with you. Now the tapping during scrolling issue happens really less, but it happens if the scrolling is jittery.

I have a feeling that is also to blame. I've noticed it when using FB, Chrome etc.
The surface of the glass may also be one of the culprits. My thumb and fingers don't glide as well on the Moto compared to my NEXUS 4. Sometimes I have to apply bit more pressure to keep my thumb firmly on the screen. Otherwise I can feel it loosing contact. It's very obvious after cleaning the screen with soft cloth. Maybe it is to do with the coating? I've ran touch screen tests and the screen detects inputs just fine. I don't see the point of returning mine, cos they won't find anything wrong with it.
PS: Android L should drastically reduce or eliminate stutters (and lag) thanks to Android Run Time (ART). People are already seeing major improvements, but I don't recommend enabling it in KitKat. It's can screw up your phone and apps. But if you wanna take the risk, click on ART Under "Select Runtime" option in developer options.

I completely agree with you. This phone has got two coatings. One called splash resistant and the the other is finger print resistant coating. I think those are another cause the finger doesn't glide well on the screen. I am also coming from Nexus 4 and I can feel this problem every time as I still carry the N4 with me. I too ran touch screen tests and everything looks fine. I am not sure if I RMA how will the 2nd device behave. It might be same. I can actually replace it from Flipkart.com from where I bought, but I am not sure if that will help.
I read some review comparison between the new moto g and new moto x and the reviewer has commented that Moto x 2014 screen is far more responsive than the moto g 2014. I know the problem was real bad with the stock screen guard on the screen. If I need to manage with the phone, I know I will have to use the phone without a screen guard.
I tried using ART as I have been using that on my N4 since Jan 2014. But in Moto g the app optimization starts at every boot with ART taking more than 10 mins for every boot. I wrote a mail to Moto support and they said there is a technical problem with the builds and they suggested me to use Dalvik. I think they won't fix it till Android L drops in.
It took my a while, but thanks to Wugfresh I was finally able to instal 5.1 on my N6. Curious to know what the general consensus is. I've only had it up and running for 6 hours, but has anyone noticed improvement in battery life or memory management?
Thanks.

Think I will like the change in notifications where I can select WiFi hotspot with going into settings.
The battery life has always been great on 5.01

Franco's kernel has given my battery some extra life, I hope this update does the same.
I have yet to get the two bugs that were really getting on my nerves previously in 5.0 and 5.0.1
1- Random restarts. They could happen at any time, but it seemed like they would happen when I was trying to text. I'd try to keep closing my text messenger application (happened with both Google Messenger and Hangouts), but it didn't always help. I'd send a text message, put my phone down and then a few seconds later, notice the Google logo because it was restarting.
2- Sometimes when the screen powers up, all I see on my lock screen is a blank black background, the on-screen back button and the usual clock and what not at the top of the phone. Otherwise, the screen itself is black and I'm basically locked out of my phone until I restarted it. If I was lucky and I was using my Bluetooth headset, if I received a phone call, that would sometimes get the phone to snap out of it and allow me to answer the phone call and then when the call was done I'd get the normal lock screen again.
So far so good with 5.1 *knocks on wood*
I just flash it this morning and I feel like im still on 5.0.1. I only use 1 wifi connection and 1 bluetooth connection, so a drop down menu doesn't really effect my daily usage since I don't switch them. Whatever they did behind the hood to improve performance/battery will be nice, but haven't had it installed long enough yet to notice anything different really.
I would also like to know how the 4 cores being force enabled effects the experience before I make the jump.
5.1 is what Lollipop should have been from launch. It's equivalent to Windows 7 replacing Vista. It's that much better.
Sideloaded with adb on my stock att N6. Seems real quick so far. Don't notice any additional drain on battery.
So far it seems about the same as before to me. However, I am on Sprint and the new radio that prevents duplicate texts is awesome so that part of it makes it seem like a new device.
I play Hearthstone, Kingdom Rush and Clash of Clans on My nexus 6 and they all run fine so far.
I did un-encrypt like before. I cannot comment on battery life yet since it hasn't even been 24 hours for me since I updated.
So far so good. Battery life has certainly improved, it was pretty abysmal for me before. I only experienced one bug that I know of on 5.0.1 where occasionally my status bar and nav bar would disappear and the phone was in a partially locked state. Trying to slide down the notification drawer would show the lockscreen. Hopefully that's fixed.
is double tap to wake.. enable in 5.1??
I'm not on a N6 yet, but my GNex is on 5.1, and to compare (because I've only got 1Gb of RAM here, it's a good test because the margins are so small compared to having 3Gb) the 5.1 update is by far the most stable yet for my device. 5.0 was baaad, but consider how many commits corrected memory leaks and you can tell this is the one. I'm looking forward to getting my N6 with 5.1 on it.
Big dialer bug in 5.1. Anyone else getting it?
My screen immediately locks and turns off in the dialer when initiating or answering phone calls. I have no access to onscreen controls until the call is terminated. I cannot hangup, select speakerphone, go to my home screen, etc., until the call ends and Android gives me my screen back.
I'm stock rooted on a 64gb N6 on Verizon. In order to maintain my data and settings I used fastboot to individually flash the new bootloader, radio, system, and boot images.
The same thing happened to an acquaintance of mine who is not rooted and did a fresh install.
Bug reported to Google, ID 160006, if you're interested.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
I am noticing a huge performance improvement from 5.0.1 already. Battery life is also better. I am not having the dialer issue like some, but have seen 3 instances of people saying the same thing.
Was on stock, now on Vanillipop 1.6 with Franco Kernel r20.
Much smoother and the battery seems improved. Still testing out.

Do you use a screen protector that covers the sensor? I know there is a thread somewhere around here with a lot of people that have that issue and it's because of their screen protector in 5.1 for some reason.

Greatly, its butter all the time.
I haven't noticed a whole lot yet, some games seem to be playing a lot better, the graphical glitch I was seeing on xcom seems to have disappeared so its actually playable now
I've been experiencing an increase in fluidness (is that a word) throughout the UI as a whole, the phone moves from task to task without any stutter and the animations seem to have a bit more polish to them. Checking on the battery now, but I was never a power user to begin with. Overall it may not look like much but you can tell there are some big time enhancements coming from 5.0.1
My apologies if this is a repeat post.
It has been mentioned before that the double-tap-to-wake does not working with anything but the stock launcher. Actually technically the *wake* should work with any launcher. I just installed Apex (my regular launcher), and it is still working just fine. What does not work is the *lock*. Apex has its own double-tap gesture definition, and lock isn't one of the options. So to get around that, you can go to the Play Store and download, install and activate "Screen Off and Lock" . One option on the Apex double-tap setting is to launch any other app. You can now configure it to launch this app. Once you do that, when you double tap while in Apex, it will lock the screen. When you double tap again, it will unlock ( I do not think that has anything to do with Apex anyway ) .
Apex is my favorite launcher and I have been looking for a way to get back to it without losing the double tap. Now I can change themes, make my drawer look better and set up many other gestures. Hopefully this trick can work in any other launcher you want to use. And at the minimum , the double tap to wake should work regardless.
Double tap to wake works for me with Google Now launcher and Nova (free version). Double tap to sleep (lock) doesn't work with either. Works fine both ways with the stock Idol launcher. Looks like you may have discovered a work around.

Nova Launcher has an identical gesture/setup. [ which I'm using in same way with the "Screen Off" app since the phone auto locks when the screen goes blank. ]
I have experienced the inconsistency with dt2w. I kept deactivating/activating it and it's been working adequately (~60% of the time, still sucky but much better than before). Like others have said, it works much better if the phone is sitting on a desk as opposed to attempting it while in your hand. I really hope the reliability of dt2w gets improved in the next OTA update.
Using Nova and a double tap gesture that activates a screen lock app works perfectly for me.

You don't have to be rooted to delete files on the external drive. There's a thread here that covers that. I'll post the link when I'm on the PC.

New discovery
Some of you may have already discovered this - but this is certainly new for me. What I am noticing about the double-tap-to-wake - is that it always works - BUT - what is happening is that often it is slow - and I mean really really slow sometimes. Most of us would perceive that as not working - and try it again. And double-tap, on top of double-tap just makes matters worse. What I did was - tried double-tapping once - and when the screen did not come back on, just let it be for about 10+ ( probably more than that at times ) seconds - and it eventually came back on. Even under normal circumstances, the screen wakeup is slow . It looks like sometimes it just takes forever, creating the impression that it is not working. I am not trying to suggest that we can say that this behavior qualifies as 'working' - but at least we know what exactly the problem is.
I hope Alcatel pushes a fix for this. Till that time - I will have to continue to rely on single-tap to wake ( aka the power button ) if double tap to wake does not work.

I have tried waiting for the screen without it coming on. Putting it on the desk and trying it and leaving it there, with no response. After a reset or disabling then enabling the function would work for a brief while. After that nothing seemed to help. If I used the power button to activate the screen and then try the DTTW, it would work but as soon as the phone went idol, so did the DTTW. As much as I liked the phone for the most part, I was not prepared to go past my return date without even one update coming from Alcatel.

Since the time I arrived at this theory, I have tested it again and again - and I can confirm that it is always doing it. You just have to be really really patient to see this in action. Forget what I said about 10 seconds ; sometimes you have to wait for more than a minute. It is weird - you double tap - then just stare at the phone for ages and suddenly out of nowhere the screen lights up.
If D2W is important for you , then my discovery does nothing for you - It is still broken. So you did the right thing in returning it. As far as updates go, again if that is important for you, then you did the right thing. Honestly I do not expect many ( if at all ) updates from TCL. From what I understand, they do not have the kind of software development infrastructure that Asus does . And that is evident from the extent of skinning that Asus did on top of Lollipop whereas the Idol3 was mostly a stock experience. IMHO - right now - more than updates from TCL, we need root , so that developers can do their own thing with the phone.
I have since installed a proximity sensor based wave-to-unlock app. Not only does it work very well, it also allows me to lock the screen back, from the lock-screen itself, something that is missing in the default D2W setup. The only downside is the additional power consumption by the proximity sensor. Since it is supposed to use only 3 mA , I am hoping it is not going to be too bad, but I will watch out for it. If the battery performance does not degrade too much, then I think I can kiss D2W goodbye.
I sent an email to Altatel Tech Support about a week ago and asked them if they are aware of the DTTW issues and working on a fix. I received a reply stating that they are aware and are working on an update. My guess is that they will try to combine multiple fixes into a single update. It may take a little longer and it is too bad that Alcatel is not better at communicating with its customers. It would make no sense for Alcatel to ignore all of the customer complaints here, on Amazon, and in various reviews and do nothing. They are spending cash marketing this phone and they must be smart enough to know that their sales will tank if they ignore the issues.
Hey guys, just thought I'd let you know of a solution that appears to fix the double tap to wake issue everyone is having. Like most of you, I've been annoyed that this only works like 50% of the time. I've noticed in the G4 forums of people having issues with their double tap to wake not working as well also (only 80% of the time, still much better than idol 3). One of their fixes is to download SGS Screen Booster from the Play Store. Using the Super Optimized preset, I can say that double tap to wake works 10 out of 10 times in my testing.

Let's be clear. G4 is an awesome device. But it's still kindof in the pre-production phage, don't you think? It's not even available 10 countries in the world. Anyway many of who have already bought LG G4, are actually migrated from another smartphone branding either HTC, Samsung, Nexus, Apple etc. And the youtubers contributed a lot in this publicity for LG. I hardly found anyone said any bad thing about G4, neither about it's battery life nor performance in those videos or reviews. But these two have become the most concerning area as well as disappointment for many of the users right now. I, myself also have been suffering with a few issues. I have already changed one device. Coming from XDA forum, here I will try my best to summarize all the problems people are facing with their G4 & also my observation on that matter from my personal experience as well as gathered knowledge from almost all the forums in XDA:
1. MISSED TAP:
Almost all users reporting that G4 missing many taps to recognize.
My observation:
Well, I have also experienced a few missed taps. But what I think it's not a LCD issue, rather less optimization/smoothness issue of the G4 ROM. How do I know? Well I switched on the touch sound. And every tap I did, including the missed ones, there was tapping sound. Even I tested in the manual testing, nothing reported like that. And even after formatting, symptoms reduced for some. But surely it's very annoying.
Oh one thing about knock codes, I found LG LCD doesn't response to gentlest touches sometimes. You need to press slightly a bit more. Fact to be considered : I am still using the provided plastic protector.
2. LAGGING ISSUE:
There is stuttering here and there in G4, not only in the stock launcher but also in the whole system.
My observations:
No doubt G4 lags. You will notice less smoothness / sluggishness while sliding any page up & down in chrome, youtube, Google plus or anything. It is not "butter smooth" like some other OEMs for most of the users. But switching to Nova, turning off smart bulletin & dual window helped to some extent, but not completely.
3. BATTERY LIFE:
Many of the moderate to heavy users complaining about quick battery drainage with low to medium brightness.
My observations:
LG said many things about their battery life of G4 in their announcement party and many well-known youtubers also said very much positive things about G4's battery life i.e. it can easily last a day which raised up the expectation bar of many users. But the real scenario is quite not like that. Most of the medium to heavy users are getting average 3 - 4.5 hours SOT with keeping screen brightness low to medium which is not at all the way LG mentioned. It seems like LG is providing that extra battery knowing the fact that you will need to put on that extra one at the middle of the day for sure. Anyway, what I found is: G4's stand-by time is OUTSTANDING. Don't turn on that screen much, only receive a few calls, you can pass a decade (not literally) with a single charge. But turn on that screen, do browse, chat, Facebooking or Youtubing or anything keeping that overkill screen on, you will hardly pass 5 hours maximum. Raise the brightness a bit more, like 75-100%, brother, you are doomed. Your G4 will die within hours. For some, turning off auto brightness & keeping the brightness below 50% all the time, turning off fast-dormency, turning off GPS, using Greenify helped a bit. Anyway, my point is that awesome-bright-vivid-overkill screen is actually the curse for the G4 at present if LG doesn't bring up some solutions for it. What's the point if you can not enjoy the juice of a fruit which is known to be the tastiest of them all???
4. HEATING & SLOW CHARGING ISSUE:
Very limited people including mine are complaining of frequent, not consistent, heating up issue of the phone as well as slow charging.
My observations:
Many factors can be responsible for this. Some people find this scenario happening once a day, for some once in two days and these two issues are interconnected in my opinion. What can heat up the phone? May be some hidden apps, maybe weather, maybe some other things, but surely it does for some. Yah we have seen in all the reviews that G4 warms up a bit, but not very much. But the people who are complaining about it, found it uncomfortable to speak touching the phone to the face. I will attach a screenshot here, in which my phone was completely idle, was on charge, no phone call came & my phone got heat up to 42 degrees & it took almost 5 hours to charge from 20 - 100%. Again I am saying this is not a consistent scenario, but it's frustrating for some including mine.
5. OTHER ISSUES:
These are some random issues found by some people:
a) White sparking light in the screen.
b) Yellow tint on screen.
c) Bad bluetooth audio.
d) Wifi speed problem.
e) Helium app doesn't work properly.
f) Nova launcher cannot install properly.
g) Vibration too soft.
h) Auto brightness inconsistancy.
So guys, if you have read it and if you are one of those renowned youtubers or columnists or bloggers whom LG guys follow on regular basis, please make an article or video about it, spread these information and let the LG guys know about these so that they can do something about it. I personally believe, software update can solve 95% of the issues. So be it.
Thanks for your patience to read my post.
I guess I've been pretty lucky thusfar.
Only missed taps I've had is on the double-tap to wake, but I think it might be due to my hardly tapping it (was used to HTC's touch profile last time I had this feature).
No lags here. I did notice that once, when I hit Home button, I returned to a blank home screen and it took about 5 seconds for the icons/widgets to show up...hasn't happened since the one time, though.
Charging, I use the stock charger from my old Note 4, so I get decent times with that (generally 10%-100% in about 50 mins...I'll take that).
As far as battery, I get about 3 hours screen on and 16-18 hours total per charge. Not bad considering I'm a heavy user when the screen is on and stream Spotify via BT speaker 12 hours/day while at work. I've only been through 3 charge cycles so far. It's still not what I was used to with the M8 or Note 4, so I will admit I'd like it to be better.
I think I would go just about nuts if I had any of 5a, b, c, or d. LOL
5d is a huge concern for me. My WiFi speed is complete bollocks. I'm getting a reading of 60mb down from my 5gh router when running speedtest on the phone. But when I actually load a website it's like I'm using dial up again. The load times are atrocious! I'm going to look into changing chanels on my router as someone has mentioned as a fix. Fingers crossed
I haven't had any of those issues. Honestly been flawless so far. Surprised by how smooth it is. I do only get 3 hours sot if I run power intensive apps. But I think that's normal.
The only real issue I've had is **** slowness on Wi-Fi but blazing speed on data
Sent from my G4 using your mom
Wifi speeds are complete crap for me i swear it's like im on dial up waiting for a page to load and forget about getting youtube to load

Same here. Not sure why there is so much inconsistency between devices. I bought the US trial version, and mine has been relatively good. If I had half of the problems reported I would have sold this thing ASAP and waited for a better crop of devices to come out this fall. I'm one of the few people who really like a stripped down TouchWiz, but with Knox/sealed but not waterproof body/no SD/weak battery the S6 wasn't cutting it. If only Samsung sold the Exynos to these other vendors... For now, I'm fine with the G4, but really hope we get root and unlocked BL so development explodes and the kernel can get tweaked.
Only problem I've had is holding back my enthusiasm about how flawless this phone is ( my wife would try to hijack it if she knew how impressed I am). I do miss 4 buttons on the bottom though

You can add the 4th button. You can add up to 5. Settings - Display - Home touch buttons - Button combination
Perfect summary.
I've also seen a lot of people saying that they aren't having these problems which can lead to people thinking the phone is perfect, which it's not. I love the screen size and the display but the software is really letting this phone down.
I've experienced many problems too, such as: stuttering, poor battery life at high brightness, brightness dimming down by itself, slow charging, lag and stutter in games, e.g. dead trigger 2 and subway surfers (yes I've turned off game optimiser) and the notification pull down freezing frequently when I get a notification. However, as I saw a lot of people saying that their phones were perfect I chose to exchange my phone instead of return it. My new phone has the exact same problems (uk device on v10a).
Maybe these problems can be fixed with a software update but the question is will it? My G3 lagged and stuttered from the beginning and no software update changed that. The only fix was to switch to a cm12 rom which made the phone finally perform smoothly, at the cost of battery life and camera quality.
It's been at least 3 phones in a row now that have had poor software (g3, g flex 2 and now g4). They're supposed to test their phones before putting them out to consumers but it doesn't seem like they really care so I don't have much hope.
Worst thing is I really want to love this phone and think LG's hardware design is perfect but the software is most likely going to make me sell it.
It might be worth mentioning which version you're on, especially if it's one where the provider (such as VZW) has bogged it down with bloatware. That could conceivably be a contributing factor to battery life issues, if nothing else.
Just a suggestion. Might be a good idea for people to put which model they're on and which Software version they're running.
Like I'm on the H811 running version 81110D. That way, we can see if any issues might be carrier type or software version based...
Just a thought.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet, but on the Sprint model the WiFi randomly turns itself on. I rarely use WiFi, so it's definitely not me turning it on and forgetting that i did or anything.
I was having a issue where my screen Brightness would change on it's own. Tmobile H811 running version 81110D ? I believe that was the version before the update I got and installed on its own last night of H. When I mean change on it's own I had the Screen Brightness on 100% like every other phone and after the few secs when the screen dims and you touch it again the screen brightness would now be set to 70% now 100%. AUTO is off I don't use that.
I will see if this happens on the H update or not.

I've actually seen this on the TMO version (8110d). Very sporadic (or it happens more than I realize but I don't spend enough time looking at the phone to notice, not sure which).
I've also seen it randomly turn OFF wifi (just happened 30 seconds ago) for no reason. Interestingly enough THAT one might be oddly due to some weird power saving feature or something as I was just able to reproduce it 3 times in a row turning the screen off and on.
Screen on=wifi on
Screen off=wifi off
Weird stuff.

Go into Wi-Fi Settings.
Under Advanced Wifi Settings
In Useful Settings, there is a setting for "Keep Wi-Fi on when screen is off".
It's set to NO by default.
I would imagine it's some sort of power saving feature.

In setting, wifi, advanced there is an option for turning off wifi when the screen is off. Check that and wifi will stay on. Still haven't digured out why it's turning itself on though.

I haven't touched anything in Wi-Fi settings other than setting my passkey and turning "Always allow scanning" off. That setting for Wi-Fi off when screen is off was on when I got the phone. Looks like default position.
It probably doesn't help that they keep losing software engineers at their California office (i work at LG). Senior engineers to make things worse.
The yellow tint on the screen is the part that upsets me the most. The lead-up to the G4's release was all about how superior the screen is to the G3's. Yet the G4's I've received have had yellow tint issue (two of them so far). The screen also appears dimmer than my old G3 at max brightness as well (this is before auto dimming kicks in too.)
There seems to be a rather big shipment of G4's with yellow screens in my area. I've been to 4 different AT&T stores in the past 4 days and have seen at least 5 brand new phones with the yellow tint. It seems to be restricted to the grey metallic retail ones as well. None of the display models or the leather backed ones I've seen thus far as the yellow tint issue. This is in Houston, TX btw. I'm heading to a 5th after work in the hopes of finding a G4 with a non-defective screen.
