Hello all,
I'm about to get a new phone but I need a little help making my mind up. As the title suggests I'm looking at the pulse and the tattoo.
I don't see any mention of the pulse on this site. Is there any rom development for it?
And the tattoo is really lacking development but at least I see some are trying.
Do any of you have any suggestions for my dilemma?
You wont find the pulse here because xda dev does not accept non htc phones (...yet).
Pulse has root, tattoo not. I guess you will find custom roms for the pulse on other sites dedicated to android. And to my knowledge, tattoo cant accept custom ROM yet (because of no root).
But on the other side, htc is a big brand that you can trust and I personally own a tattoo which is solid phone. I do not have any problem with it and I love it despite of the lack of development.
Huawei is new on the android market and to be frank I never heard of it before the pulse. But from what Ive read here and there, it seems to be a reliable phone too. Only thing I heard is that the battery life is kind of low.
Personally I would go for the tattoo but it is a personal opinion. It all depends on you, both choices are not bad.
Thanks yash. I think i will end up going for the tattoo. Mainly because it's HTC.
Also the battery life. I see lots of mentions to how good the tattoo battery life. Currently have the Diamond so a decent battery would be very nice.

battery life is not so great unless you make sure you turn many of the services off
the goes news is that Paul (modaco) has bought one, so root willbe round the corner .....
why not just wait it out for the new bravo?
The bravo isn't a budget phone. There's a recession don't you know!
I own a htc tattoo and I have to say that battery life is generally good, even with heavy usage i get through at least a day. The resistive screen is extremely nice, it requires only a little pressure. The tattoo also has a 3.5mm headphone jack and natively has the sense ui, so unless you want the bigger screen i would have to suggest the htc tattoo.
But frankly am not a big fan of sense ui, I feel it sometimes eat up ram uselessly.
Its not as resource heavy on the qvga screen. i generally have around 40meg ran with multiple programs running as reported by taskkiller.
Hello everybody,
I am terribly sorry to do this to you, but I'm writing this on a very crappy tablet as my PC has run into quite a number of problems. That makes it very hard for me to dig for the info and my phone should arrive tomorrow. Anyway, now that I have somewhat justified this mischief of mine, I would like to ask you, the G2 people, a few questions. As I stated earlier, I ordered a G2 and I would like to root it and slap a good AOSP/Stock Android/AOKP/Nexus-ish ROM on it as quickly as possible. I have to do this over a friends PC, so I should tell him which files to download in order to make his life easier. Now, let's get to the questions. I live in Croatia (which is a part of the EU) so will I get the d802 variant of the phone? Which ROM would be most suitable for my needs, which are GTA San Andreas (when it comes out, trading a kidney for an early release), listening to music, a stock android experience and good battery life? The camera could come in handy because of all the holiday events taking place in the near future, but good camera quality isn't that much of a factor. Again, I am very sorry for asking these questions. If I had a normal PC, I would have searched for the answers myself, but I am desperate here. I'm going on a trip to visit my friend soon and I'd love to go there without the LG software and also without my phone getting stuck in bootloops or with bad battery life.
Thanks in advance!
Hi!
There's two paths:
Modding the stock rom
Benefits
Stable, fast
Excellent camera and audio quality
Bug free
Cons
Takes some modding in order to get it the way you like, if you like AOSP
You don't get the quick pulldown live tiles function from AOSP no matter what you do..
4.2.2
Recommended mods:
ROM and mods
StockROM from g.lewarne as a basis is a good choice
iOS7 navbar, looks just really nice in general
iOS7 icon pack 'Ios7 Flat' (dig around a bit for it) in conjunction with Unicon - an Xposed module (on Play Store) for nicer icons. Yuo can also use other icon packs of course. I say this because LGHome is recommended instead of ie. Nova Launcher, it's just smoother and nicer on the G2.
xdabebb camera mod for even better camera quality (the original app has its flaws)
Volume increase mod, the sound on stock is a bit low
V4A Viper4Android for even better sound
Freeze any unneccecary LG bloat through Titanium Backup (there's no need deleting them as the space isn't available anyway
iFont - changed system font to Helvetiva Neue, if you want the KitKat look you can change it to a light version of Roboto.
AOSP rom:
I've heard that Vanir rom is the smoothest atm
Pros:
4.4.x
AOSP apps
Lightweight
Cons
Unoptimized kernels
Not better battery time or performance
Feels rough around the edges
The implementation of things like the LED and 'knock off' and 'knock on' functions are not very good (you will learn to love them!)
audio quality is very bad, aosp camera also. there is a port of the LGcamera.apk, but it is very buggy unfortunately. Will make you upset very fast!
Thank you, you have been very helpful! I just might stick with stock for a while, at least to the end of the holidays.

Good luck with that, my preferred choice is stock, even coming from a Nexus 4, and being very design-concious

I couldn't resist, I simply had to flash stock Android. OmniROM first boot happening as I'm typing this.

Please write some opinions on the camera quality of OmniROM. I'm a new user as well, still on stock though and I'm curious as to how the camera quality is in OmniROM.
Pozzz.

I've spent quite much time with many ROMs and the best I find in CyanogenMod 11. I get 0% battery loss over the night. I get the latest software with best features of CM. I get above 31,000 Antutu benchmarks on this ROM and GTA San Andreas works flawlessly! Don't forget to use the latest TWRP 2.6.3.4 and you're good to go with this amazing phone. You can even get the quick remote and the LG camera apk on CyanogenMod. Good luck!

Slimkat doesn't have many issues... its very nice small and stable as well. instead of knock off use the navbar ring to set lock screen on a vertical swipe knock off problem solved until it is fully implemented. knock on works perfect. Great KITKAT rom.
stockmod rom is EXCELLENT no other way to describe it - my only issue has been audio quality when playing on my stereo through jack is very crackly...
Hey all
I need your help folks...
What i look for in a phone.. Great music sound, Great pictures and plenty of camera features, ease of use on interface, big clear screen, loudish ringtones, heavily customisable
I changed from my S4 to the G2, due to the sh*t bloatware, lag and camera issues on the S4LTE, so Ive had my unbranded UK D802 G2 (latest Dec2013 update) for all of about 3 weeks now and to be honest Im not impressed..
Mainly because of the camera, but other issues such as, my EE/Orange GSM signal just drops out for a few seconds from time to time, my Wifi signal wavers up and down occasionally, the knock on doesnt always work and the screen just switches straight back off again after knock on, the speaker is very tinney and low ringer volumes, plus 10GB is not alot (but thats my fault for not researching not LGs).
I know all of this sounds so negative, but im trying my best to love this phone, Ive looked around at all the camera mods and upgrades, mainly Jishnus, xdabeb and even LGs own camera fix, however all require root access and from what Im aware Rooting stops OTA updates.
Plus Sammy have just about fixed all issues on the S4 with 4.3
Is it worth staying with the G2 and wait for KitKat fixes, will their be any KitKat fixes, becasue I do love the user friendly interface features on the G2, I can put up with the 10GB,
Thanks

I would say wait for KitKat. By then, there will also be newer devices around. Going back to a device you didn't like isn't gonna do much good

Thanks for the quick reply , Is it true that KitKat is out in a few weeks (March) and has there been a changelog released yet?.
Thanks
@OP
I don't know if this is a dumb answer or your just asking a dumb question, but your in the G2 forum, so you should expect 7 out of 10 people would vote more on the G2 than that of the S4... (same idea if you throw out your post to the S4 forum as well, you would most likely know what your going to get a reply with).

I asked this in a bid for someone to advice me of the great things about the G2, but it doesnt matter.. I was playing with the camera last night.. I was even looking at installing Jishnus Mod manually so I wouldnt lose OTA after rooting, but I just got so sick of the flakey photos that Ive gone back to WP8 Black on my Lumia 920. 27GB of usable storage, great loud stereo speakers and wireless charging OOTB and a fantastic 8.7 MP Carl Zeiss Lens camera (after Lumia Black update) and IMO, A superior OS in every respect.
Oh well ..
It seems clear that you just don't like the phone (the best phone available in the eyes of many) so enjoy your Nokia sir, whatever floats your boat.

Hi everyone,
I just purchased a lg g2 (hasnt arrived yet), but I read about the terrible camera afterwards and am wondering if I should return it. I currently have a htc sensation, i think that camera is ok, it at least has a quick shutter speed. I also used a sony z1 compact, although it takes great pictures, its slow as hell, it doesnt take a picture until 2-3 seconds after pressing the shutter.
1. is the camera is deal breaker? I tend to take spur of the moment pics so I need quick shutter speed
2. does the camera mod help much?
3. did the newest 4.4.2 update do anything to improve the camera? I'm not sure if what I read was before or after the update
4. are there any other major issues that I should be aware of?
I'm a simple person, I like to customize a bit but stability is most important. appreciate any responses that will help me decide. thanks

1. No it's not, shutter is pretty good and you have an option for multiple shots so don't worry about it, it's not a deal breaker.
2. Camera mod? Don't know any but if you will replace the rom you will lose the stock camera which is as I said pretty good, amazing photos in full light and nice photos in dimmed area.
3. Not that I know of, as a 4.4.2 user of the d802 I haven't noticed any difference.
4. I think that the most major issues on android in General is the memory consumption.
Also the stock 4.4.2 doesn't support ART which is a major update for kitkat, you can really feel the difference.
And ofcourse the damn LAG issues on stock rom which drives me crazy when I surf the web or open a PDF file which BTW the CM or any moded rom doesn't have these problems...
I hope you enjoy your new G2 phone but I would consider buying the G3 if you can

Its not really worth it, G2 is a great buy atm, with all the people going nuts for that extra resolution that isnt really worth it the G2's price has dropped and its specs are still some of the best, plus the G3's stock rom has mostly the same features(IIRC), its mostly just aesthetics changes that the G3 has over G2.
Also, there are G3's stock rom ports, what more do you need?
Hey guys, I have to ask:
- Does this device have a bootloader lock such as sony smartphones when purchased from a carrier?
- Is there any sudden death/current bugs/defects I should look out for? (tinted screen, broken hardware buttons, bad touch controls, anything?)
- I see there's unofficial cyanogenmod support, is there anything not working? (gps, camera, nfc? threads don't seem to mention anything broken, is it omitted or there isn't anything to fix?)
- Anything I should do other than read the stickies? Samsung phones have a very important and easily corrupted EFS folder, so I'm on the lookout for anything like this on my next purchase.
Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

If you use autorec it will flash the JB boot loader, and a custom recovery (TWRP) so you can flash ROMs and what not. The only thing I've heard about hardware defects are lines on the screen. Vertical, horizontal and screen spasms altogether. When it comes to cyanogen, I've never used it on this phone. Unless you're one of those must-have-aosp sorta guys, stock ROMs are the way to go. On the other hand, I did use Mahdi for awhile and it was awesome.

It has a locked bootloader, yes.
- Is there any sudden death/current bugs/defects I should look out for? (tinted screen, broken hardware buttons, bad touch controls, anything?)
Yes there is. Check the screen. On some phones, the digitizer randomly stops working. Often occurs after a drop.
Check for something like this or something like this.
- I see there's unofficial cyanogenmod support, is there anything not working? (gps, camera, nfc? threads don't seem to mention anything broken, is it omitted or there isn't anything to fix?)
I wouldn''t say "Not working" as much as I'd say not working properly. Camera performance on AOSP is generally horrible and more often than not, a Stock based rom would be the way to go =)
- Anything I should do other than read the stickies? Samsung phones have a very important and easily corrupted EFS folder, so I'm on the lookout for anything like this on my next purchase.
The G2 also has an important EFS partition. It's not as easily corrupted, but make sure you have a backup of it at least.
Don't drop the phone, the digitzer is glued to the LCD - if the screen cracks, your digitizer dies.

Is it possible to unlock the bootloader?
I'm a sucker for AOSP, do you mean the camera has worse quality (as the stock has more options), or does it randomly stop working? Coming from an i9300 I thought this device would have all the necessary sources available for development, or is LG a bad company towards developers?
Also, is anyone compiling AOSP roms with linaro for this phone?

I'll advise you to go for a Nexus 5, One Plus One or wait for something with tons of development for AOSP ROMs like the two I mentioned.
Also there is a risk of permanent black lines that happens to some G2 owners, its suspected that heat is the cause but if it happens to you while flashing you'll have to RMA the phone.
There is a workaround for the locked bootloader. The camera quality is worse on AOSP cause the drivers for the camera are closed source. Development on AOSP ROMs is slow. Best option is stick to stock or stock based ROMs

thanks for asking this question my friend
i just wanted to add :
- how is the over all experience comparing it with samsung - htc devices , i have been using both of them for a while ( i dont like build material in samsung and update process with htc - i read that lg is making progress in this direction ).
- how does it feel after a while like the size, shape, build quality including overall performance .
im very close to buy one but im afraid a little bit - never owned an lg smartphone.
best regard from me

yes it does have a locked bootloader but that has not stopped us from getting recovery/roms/kernels/etc; we use a an exploit in the aboot to bypass the locked bootloader so there is nothing to worry about

none that I am aware of as a shipping device, but if you are an avid flasher(as in you love to constantly flash something new) than you need to be careful because there is permanent screen damage issue which you can read more about here

I am not sure which device(different g2 variants get different roms) you may be planning on getting but already have full official support and everything is working; although experience with aosp is not the best if you get use to the lg stock experience there are actually some great aosp roms(better experience than cm anyways)

I came from an sgs 3 and in the family my parents always getting a Samsung in overall I prefer the look and feel of the g2 but the screen is one of my bad points, it is full glass and very easy to break so I suggest getting a case as a priority and as one of the members pointed out the lcd/digitizer are glued together and it is pretty much impossible to get them separated so replacing is tedious

I came from a generation of small devices since before the sgs3(biggest device I had prior to the g2) I had a lot small devices so getting used to a bigger device was little but difficult but rather quickly and the button placement/knock on and knock code is a great feature and before you know it you will be knocking on all your devices(I spent about a month like that)
build quality is okay for a plastic device it feels nice but it definitely needs a cover to maintain it safe
performance is great, I never experienced any lag; camera took some great pics(in the day because low light performance is bad) and after rooting and installing the modded camera you will enjoy all the improvements in day/low light scenarios; and I use the phone for lots of gaming specifically emulators, so I was able to average about 20 hours a day with heavy ppsspp usage so both performance and battery life are killer
