ATT D800 on T-Mobile Offered ATT Update - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an ATT G2 (D800). I have Sim unlocked it and since put it on a T-Mobile prepaid sim.
When I go to Software Update to check for updates, it still finds an ATT update. Why?
It is not leftover from when the phonewas on ATT, as it has been wiped since.
Thanks

Will this take T-Mobile firmware?

I got my wife an AT&T a few years ago with my upgrade credit (I'm on AT&T). She's been using it as an amped-up PDA without a phone plan. This weekend, we unlocked it and put it on a T-Mobile pay as you go plan (because it's cheap, let's not get side-tracked with the why's, please). The phone hasn't been updated since she got it (it's still on 4.2.2), and I've convinced her it's finally time to let me do it. We're going to reset the whole thing, anyway, so my question is, will the unlocked AT&T version of the GS4 function properly with the T-Mobile GS4 firmware?
You want to flash T-Mobile firmware to the att s4 or do you want to know if an updated att s4 will work on the T-Mobile network?
I don't think you can flash T-Mobile firmware to the att s4 as this could brick the phone.
Since T-Mobile is transitioning off their aws system, the unlocked att s4 may work without any modification of the phone's modem software.

I, too am in the same situation. I even bought an AT&T GoPhone SIM to try, put it in, thinking it would work (Just $5) but it didn't so, I am thinking that I need to actually activate the SIM now, but not sure if I want to add a min of $30 just to "See" if it will update.
That is exactly what you will have to do (or root your phone and then return to stock).
AT&T only does OTA updates, and only if you are an active AT&T customer. Sucks right? Don't bother complaining to the FTC, they will tell you to eff off.

I'm also using an AT&T H910. Can't receive any updates. I entered the developer options and saw that the phone was "OEM unlocked". Can I just flash a custom recovery and SuperSU to get root?

Using the AT&T H910 outside of the US. Does that mean I will never get any update?

I heard that an active AT&T sim card is required for software or system update. Is it possible that I buy an AT&T prepaid sim card from ebay and use it solely for system update outside of the US?
Yes. As long as you are on an AT&T network. Roaming on another provider will not work. You have to have an AT&T SIM *AND* be on the AT&T network.
The other very LONG way, is to root your phone, and then flash the latest firmware. If you don't want to stay rooted, then you can flash the latest full stock firmware which will take you back to stock.

I have this issue as well, unlocked AT&T version on Cricket, I bought a GoPhone SIM hoping that just putting it in the phone would work, but it needs to be active.
Okay thanks for your replies. I guess there is nothing more I can do about it then.

Bought H918, imei says it's H990 (Isr Israel). clear on swappa help

I bought this supposedly T-Mobile H918 on ebay. It says it works with T-mobile, Lycamobile, UltraMobile, Simplemobile. I figured (assumed (mistake)) the phone was unlocked. Tried to use a Freedompop gsm sim, no go. Went over to T-mobile they said it was NOT in database, couldn't unlock a phone not in database.but rep put his Tmobile sim in and it worked. I decided to order a T-mobile sim online for $10. In the meantime I went online looking for a LG IMEI checker. It turns out the phone is an Israeli H990. I guess someone flashed the T-mobile H918 on it. The IMEi is clear according to swappa and others. Should I send it back? It had H918 10K on it and I flashed back to 10J and rooted. I like the phone, but is it possible that it could get blocked down the line? If it's clear and can be used on different T-mobile MVNOs is it unlocked? I plugged IMEI into AT&T checker and it said something like, it's clear, we just need to get the right sim. Any help or info or ideas appreciated, Thanks Johnm

If you were able to root it, then its probably a database mismatch. The gsm simcards usually pose problem to T-Mobile's android handsets due to UICC activation (or UICC unlocking).
A crossflashed phone is hardbricked the moment u unlock its bootloader and load a custom recovery on it. (Had my chinese fake G3/G2 moments back in the days). Your phone is fine if you rooted it and its working right out of the box.
Two things that dont work if u modify the system of LG phones is RIL and the abnormal screen behavior. For your case, both work. I'm from Pakistan but I often end up having unlocked phones from American carriers. Right now I have Samsung Tab A which is from T-Mobile and UICC activation doesnt make my LTE Sim work on it. With T-Mobile its kinda common to end up into an "invalid sim card" error when u try to use a non-T variant.

Wow Thanks, this story is getting more interesting. I appreciate you relating your crossflashing experience. I guess I'll try to get some different gsm sims to try. Thanks, take care, johnm

Oreo update on unlocked ATT S8 with T-Mobile sim

I have an unlocked S8 and I have not got the Oreo update Every time I go to check, it says your software is up to date. Is it because I am using a T-Mobile SIM? If yes, do I need to use ATT sim to get the update?

Yes you need an AT&T sim. Otherwise you will not receive ota updates.
Try it now
When I unlocked my AT&T S8, and stuck in a MetroPCS Sim, MetroPCS updated the phone to Oreo. This also results in the boot logo changing to MetroPCS which I think is unfortunate. And it installed a couple of Metro PCS apps including the voicemail app. This was all interesting since this means a carrier will update an OS on a phone that was originally sold for a different carrier. Seems that could run into problems but maybe not.
Did you figure it out?

I have an AT&T unlocked S8 Active with a t-mobile sim. I tried using an old AT&T sim with no plan, but it did not work. Do I need a sim with a plan to do the stupid update?
Take it to a Samsung Experience in a Large Best Buy and get them to Update it.

Is there any way to manually update it to the latest version? Caz I am stuck on Android 7.0 as well, it won't update.

How long after putting in your metropcs sim did the phone update? I just unlocked an att s8 active today registered on my metropcs account but as of this moment it says it is up to date when it is clearly not.
Thank you
