If you are staying stock, go with the latest 4.2.2 firmware as it has improvements in regard of gaming drivers and lags compared to 4.1.2.
There's GENNXT, that's the most stable available stock based ROM.
Advantage of stock would be better gaming experience, samsung apps and dual SIM functionality
While the down side would be the usage of RAM is a little higher, as can be expected by stock based ROMs, so expect freezes and lags every now and then.
If you are going custom, in 4.2.2 there's only CM11 that was just released 3 days ago. If you opt to downgrade to 4.1.2, there's an array of ROMs available like PAC-MAN, MoKee, SlimBean, Resurrection and so on.
Personally I would recommend SlimBean, as it's the one I'm usually on and it's the one with the best battery backup, but all of them are full of customizations.
Advantage of being on these would be great performance, close to no lags at all, and starts with over 500 Mb RAM free
And the main disadvantage would be single SIM functionality and limited graphic drivers from 4.1.2 firmware

for android 4.4.1 cm11(4.4.2 not available yet) you have to use a specific recovery which supports SELinux .....you can find more information about it on cm11 thread...
slim 4.4.2 if you are thinking about(slimcat which is called) , is not at all stable yet !!! so there is no 4.4.2 i clear again....
visit this link and see installing procedure if u want this rom !

Hi All , I am Happy being with you today
I just ask about any (completely working features ROM ) for my Galaxy S4 i9505
all the custom ROMs have a bugs , not working features , and so on !
I want any 4.4 KitKat ROM for my device with the same stock S4 camera and working features

You are meant to try out Roms and make your own mind up.

Thank you
I know that no custom rom is completely come with all stock working features
but I want to give me just an ROM 4.4 KitKat with the stock Camera app
or how can I make the stock camera app works with the custom rom?
if the custom rom comes with the two camera apps (custom and stock) , I will be happy , anyway , thank you really

S4 is too young to have yet 100% stock features on any cooked ROM. For example, now I am running my old S2 with 4.3 CM10.2 and even not 100% features (sound in dock and HDMI out doesn't work, but it is not a problem form me even having got an HDMI adapter...).
As my S2, I am sure my S4 will end its days with any CMxx or similar cooked ROM, but now it is too soon.
The question is, why would prefer to loose features just to have kit kat now (I really believe we will have it before 2 or 3 month).
Lot of people like to have stock S4 camera app on CM or Kitkat rom including me. I've searched here, and there's only camera port for Google Edition 4.3 rom, but without complete feature, still can't be everyday use. I end up using stock pre-root 4.3 rom; has everything samsung advertised, better battery, more stable than CM and just born kitkat rom. I'm looking to try kitkat again if the camera work good and rom has no other issue.
the most important advice is "patience". you've got to set things into perspective: if you want kitkat, give developers some time, they can't work miracles (most of the time, that is)... pulling such a big system all together takes time, and most custom roms only started offering nightlies for the i9505... they really arent meant for people wanting things to run smoothly ...

[Survey] Android 4.1 vs 4.3

Hi,
Because we all have diffrent opninion about our Sony Xperia SP I would like to do a very small reseach.
With this very easy poll I just want the next question answered:
Are you running official 4.1.2 or 4.3.x?
If you are running a custom ROM (CM, PA or even stockbased) answer Custom ROM..
If you have answerd the question please let me know in a comment:
Tell which one you have chosen (perhaps even the build number of the version you run) and wheter you are happy with it or not!
Thanks!
OP will kickoff:
I have chosen for Stock Sony 4.3.x. I am not that happy with it because it still has a few bugs. I do however am happy because Sony finnaly took the time to update it after delay and more delay. Now we are just waiting for KitKat.
I still choose 4.3 because camera feature and others.
205 fw
I'm running 4.3, without much talk it's just the best choice right now since many bugs have been fixed and it does come with some pretty nice features
I'm in 4.3.... every OS have bugs, but at least with 4.3 you have more features here and there and thats why is better that stay in a old OS version
Also last update just let me little visual bugs (install app bar), GPS (not the big deal) and Wifi (well Wifi range sucks since 4.1)
I am on stock 4.3,and i am happy!
Nearly all bugs are fixed, only ram is failing in some moments
Happy with stock 4.3 latest fw, much better than previous updates. No lag here, so its good for me after all those laggy updates.
I had lag issues with all versions of the stock ROM I've tried. After testing a whole bunch of custom ROMs I've settled on CM 10.1. While it is not exactly cutting edge, it has been out of active development for many months, it is rock solid and stable.
I use stock 4.3 as camera is important to me. I found PA 4.4.4 to be the fastest rom for me, but I want to be able to control ISO manually on my camera. I tried various versions of 4.3 and decided to stick with my carrier version (O2 UK). Once towel rooted and debloated I find it to be very fast and stable. More so than the various deodex stock roms on the forum.
Yea I am also on the .205 4.3 firmware, I am UK customised, one of the last to get it but it is good. I fixed the uninstall glitch with a fixed package installer apk, only issue I have experienced is battery drain due to location services and lower ram (compared with 4.1.2).
I'm using 4.3, with eXistenZ Ultra. Couldn't be happier [emoji1]
Stock 4.1.2 is the best
I'm using stock 4.1.2 with swap on stock kernel
Was on latest stock every time a new firmware was released, then switched to eXistenZ when it seemed like we'd never have KK, but I've never been deceived with either stock firmware or eXistenZ, both have always been very fast and I've never experienced any lag or disconfort on this phone.
EXistenZ is perfect. 4.3 is better than 4.1 imho

I personally favours CM 11 because of a few flaws present in the stock ROM. Not to be lying, I really like Sony's UI (framework-res.apk) and some aspects of the stock ROM. As per to my experience, the stock ROM is not that heavily modified as I can somehow use some things that are meant for AOSP-based ROMs, which is a huge plus for me. However, when it comes to support and RAM, it fails to meet my requirement, and that is what forced me to use CM.

Nope, I can assure you, maybe I've just been lucky but all of the bugs and lags that have been blamed on it ? I've never had them. The only bad point for me is the pretty average camera.
I'm on stock 4.3 (.205 fw). Best I've experience by far, both feature-wise and usability. RAm management could be better though.

Advice for a good, stable and light Rom?

Hello.
It's the fist time I'm gonna flash a modded Rom cause after a year the phone its staring to do weird things. I'm still at 4.3 Jellybean.
My phone is rooted with stock TouchWiz.
The less wissles and options the better. I don't use the S-pen and would like to have a simple and battery friendly Rom with a good camera app.
Also I'm worry for the sdcard problems i read everywhere and stability.
I guess a Rom with 4.4.4 is better than 4.4.2 but in this so not sure.
What Rom do you recommend?
Thank you!
first you need to choice if you want TW or CM rom...
if TW you need to upgrade bootloader and flash stock KK rom and root and flash custom...
if CM11 no need to upgrade KK and you can flash what you want
for CM12 you need KK bootloader too
Thank you for quick answer.
I read that Cyanogenmod Roms are not optimized and made for Note 3.
Is there a Rom made specifically for N9005 with the features I posted?
1. Go to the Note 3 Android development subforum.
2. Read about the different ROMs.
3. Decide which one you want to try.
4. Flash it.
5. Repeat as necessary.
There are no short cuts. Do the research yourself, only you know if you'll be happy with your choice.
Ok thank you.
Will all the Kitkat based Roms have issues with the Sdcard I read I forums?
I recommend to you the rom which made by Alexander.. And omega rom as a second choice.. Good luck

please, i have this rom
[ROM][N9005] Galaxy S5 Stock ROM - Final v40.0 - Clean, Fast and Stable - [OTA]
have i already in kk bootloader? or not sure? how can i check?
thanks
I'm trying to find Alexander Rom you suggested but i cant find it in the forum. (I'm new with all this about roms).
What is the name of Alexander's Rom?
Well you can use stock ROM, and uninstall all the nonsense apps with any root supported uninstall app, but you still will be forced to have those S related features, S-Scroll, S-Stay and all those nonsense features (which I never have used, ever). Now if you AOSP way then you won't have all those things and you will have a clean ROM but you will miss the lovely S-Pen integration of TouchWiz based ROMs.
So you have to decide according to your preference. I don't believe that AOSP/CM based ROMs are 100% bug free for Note 3, but please correct me if I am wrong. I am an AOSP lover too.
And I also don't believe 4.4.4 has much advantage over 4.4.2 other than some security patches.

ROM Advice

Hi All,
I have had my Galaxy S 4 (I9505) for a while now but it is still running android 4.3.
I was hoping to update it to 5.0.1 but when I plugged it into my PC, Kies said 'This device is unsupported'
I want to flash a new rom onto it (I have done this in the past with a samsung tablet)
I was just wanting some feedback as to what is regarded as a good rom for it these days. Should I go a standard stock rom from sammobile or are there custom roms out there that perform better?
Thanks for any help and advice.
Daniel
Custom roms give you more performance. Stock roms tend to lag here and there, from what I saw in rom reviews.
If you want a minimalist rom, go for CM12 or Slim roms. They have very few features.
If you want lots of features, go for AICP or Resurrection Remix. These two combine the most popular features from other roms (I personally use Resurrection Remix).
And there are the GPE roms. I don't know how GPE 5.1 is, but on 5.0 the rom was rock solid and everything worked.
I can't say anythinv about stock touchwiz because, since I changed I never went back

Try a custom S6 Touchwiz ROM for your phone model - you'll be pleasantly surprised by the new look, feel and performance. I know I am!
I tried CM but not such a big fan... Experiment a bit until you find what you were ALWAYS looking for!
You try to consider CM 12.1 or GPE Roms. The major disadvantage is the camera quality and some multitasking features on TW, but it's hella fast and smooth.

Roms
I would recommend Cyanogenmod but sometimes it comes with some problems. Check out first which is the stable version for s4.
Also, I would recommend the WickedRom which is great and great performance. And the WanamLite Rom is amazing if you would like to tune your mobile , for example gpu or cpu in higher frequencies or even set custom gestures and etc.( but remember to be careful with those why you might break your phone

go for Resurrection Remix like said: GDReaper, or may be BlissPOP ( with terrible battery drain for me).
I tried just the straight CM 12 rom and it was okay, but once I put on the one of the Optimized CM 12.1 roms I got better battery life and faster performance, but also lost a few features, got a few bugs, but so far so good. It really depends what you want.
If you are willing to have a few crashes, bugs you can put on the newest rom builds, but if you want stable, then going for the older well established ones may be a better option.

I have to correct you here buddy It's almost always better to pick the latest CM build. Because it's a work in progress, every new build has a lot fixes.
I'm curious though to what bugs you are referring to. I used it pretty long and I found it almost to be bugfree. Besides the obvious difficulty's with bluetooth.

Hey Lenny, the official CM builds I have never had an issue with (except nightlies of course) however when we get into the custom ROM world such as Slimroms, modified CM builds etc I do tend to hit a few bugs, such as crashes of apps, however often those builds then become stable.
Hope that makes more sense?
The only good advice is to just use stock roms. It's stable, no bugs, no issues. The only thing that pisses you off is the laggggggg!

Is there any rom that has everything working (nfc, wifi etc)

So is there any rom (I think stock based would be my best bet) that has no important bugs? Or should I just flash a custom kernel on a stock firmware?
No there is no such perfect custom rom due to some technical limitations.
Try stable ROMS, there is more probability you find everything working there. I suggest you Resurrection Remix for personalization and CM 12.1 for stability. Btw is your choice, choose the one suits you best.

Best is cm11 with sev3n kernel. 6h of screen good camera(cm12 is a joke), radio and everything. No bugs no lags and finally a decent phone. If you want lollipop flavour install cm11 ideal theme from store. It looks the same. After trying almost everything it,s my choice.

Offline chaning work? Battery idle 7 day work? Thank you.
(SORRY BAD MY ENGLISH 50%)
Yes offline charging works and in cm12 also works. Only cm12.1 has that bug. Try kang cm 12.1 after flashing perharps 10 roms is now my favourite . Well i miss cm11 Camera but you can't have everything, i'm a little tired of KitKat and since yesterday we hace a good lollipop ROM with a good tweaked kernel and almost free of bugs.
I am using stock firmware 4.4.2 with xposed and some modifications. It is good and now i am going to try any custom kernel. For me, custom roms are useless especially those CM based.
