Hero "multitasking"

It started driving me mad. If I minimize browser, I can't be sure it won't close. Not only minimizing for longer periods, but short ones as well - wanted to reply an sms when a page was loading, but when I got back to it, it started over. And all the loaded tabs were gone! Saving states my ass, it takes time to load a page from zero and only the active browsing window remains. How to make this "multitasker" multitask?

Yes, that's the only way I switch betwen apps.

Have you installed the 'system-based' taskiller mod by any chance (you know, the one that was announced here that automatically keeps memory free by modifying the default thresholds for killing apps)?
If so, I reckon that's the issue! Either that, or you have too much running, so popping the browser into the background makes it a background task and it gets killed cos you're really short of RAM.
Let us know if you have used the tweak though...

it doesn't matter how you change the apps.
For android it's the same, whether you tap an icon on a homescreen/list or whether you select it from the "task switch" thing... all that does is listing the last recently used applications but still tapping them results in the same internal action.

I've had pretty much the same issue since I got the phone back in November (I guess I've just gotten used to it by now). I'm never really sure when I switch back to the browser if it will retain the page loaded and any other windows, or if it will reset, close the other windows, and have to reload the active page. I'm on the stock Telus ROM, no custom ROM, not rooted, no tweaks, nothing extra (I've been waiting patiently for 2.1 to come out before messing with custom ROMS).

No, I have stock rom and I have never used any task killer or related app / tweak.
And I don't run too much stuff.. only music player, messaging and sense's facebook perhaps. If music player is paused, why can't it quit it instead... I prefer multitasking of my past htc s730 which had like 7 megs of free ram after booting.

Even after a hard reset, this behavior remains.

i dont know.. it works fine for me....
1.. maybe there is a setting in the browser.. to always refresh.
2.. you have a repair issue.. Need to take it in to your local service provider repair center. Let them see your issue.

Come on, it's no hardware issue. Most of the time the browser stays, but u just can't be sure about that because it sometimes just closes. I think that it's an issue with Android's STUPID memory management, which also has a scheduled "quit all" script.
Yesterday I opened up a few articles on the browser and decided to read them later. This morning they all remained and I was pleasantly surprised I could read them. This very moment, though, they are gone by now even though I haven't quit the browser - probably that 'quit all' script kicked in.
There could be something in settings, where you could chose apps which would not close ever unless quit..
I would love if Android apps were quitable without any automatic mem management.

Suggest to grab AutoKiller or MinFreeManager, which are just frontends to Android's memory management (also they reapply settings at boot time, as the system file that's being modified is reset every boot.)
See what your current settings are, and lower them (e.g. use "moderate" preset). Just search XDA for autokiller or minfreemanager for more info.

Pressing home should only move that application to the background (pressing back should close it).
If you are pressing home and applications are still closing then there must be a task killer of some sort in place closing it for you.

You obviously have not read the topic.
No task killers, tasks dont neceaarily close, its juast that u cant be sure they will remain in memory.

Yes - it's the standard Android process management rather than a 3rd party task killer.
I guess the browser is given a low priority and is one of the first apps to be killed.

Evolution [Release update info : See last post]

Hello all,
Finally iam releasing this rom which is in a next level than any other wm 6.5 or 6.5.x rom only for viva in the sense that it has got some major modifications. Okay now ready to evolve your phone? hey wait a min i thought first a test version would be a excellent idea. So that makes this rom only for little advanced users and not for daily usage.
So here you go the bug fixed/features.
The major problem that is wifi auto start has been fixed
Originallly the scrolling of start menu is not smooth without some type of tweak here without tweaking it is.
No sms bug
lite rom nbh size approx 54.2 mb
ezinput keypad included, dont worry its not that 8mb one its only 1mb
New drivers from latest spanish rom 1.57.707.3
Ultra fast feel the speed yourself
no 3rd party app
Keyboard now hides on single click
This rom has no titanium (intentionally removed will be added after testing). Okay now as a tester please report the following things.
If you have dataconnection active then setup connection and try to connect if it connects open a webpage on you phone, working? report here (i have done some tweaking coz if which it wont connect but if its not connecting for all i will remove that tweak)
The speed that i mentioned can you feel = ultra fast
The phone must be more responsive is it?
Was the scrolling smooth
And then report all the bugs / essential feature missing here. (remember only essential feature)

Successful fixation:
1. No wifi auto start
2. Wifi works perfectly
3. Bluetooth works perfectly
4. SMS bug yet to confirm

Dude as i said its for testing purpose if u are asking this with the intention of daily usage then plz remember that this rom is in beta and not for daily purpose, if u would like me to complete this evolution rom which i said is completely a next level then please go ahead and test it and report back
Anyways, the answer for your question everything is default absolutely no customization no icon changing, no theme, no taskbar icon.

-when i get out of the start menu to home screen....it keeps showing the previous page.....i guess thats because of the lack of titanium.
-please add showcase, since theres no task manager lots of programs remain open and the phone becomes slow in a few minutes.
-bluetooth OK
-wifi OK
-When IE starts it says cannot open blank page....but then works fine.
-When i get an incoming call, i cannot see the name or the number of the person calling.
-When i make an outgoing call theres a scroll bar on the right...for which i see no purpose.

I just saw those details, but I like that is clean, with nothing changed, looks like a rom drawn from Microsoft, and that is what we all

#3: After running some programs (ex. PPC PimBackup) the phone becomes very slow. I checked the processes using FcdSoft Task Manager v3.1 and found one of the process 'cprog.exe' was consuming about 60% - 80% of the CPU resource. I 'killed' it and it becomes okay again...
#4: In USB-to-PC pop-up, there is no 'Storage Device'!!! just ActivSync and Internet Sharing.
Suggestion:
#1: will it be okay if you remove 'Microsoft My Phone'
#2: and what about removing 'Marketplace' too?? I don't think many people uses it. If they want they can install it, right??

Yes this test rom is intended just to see the speed and particularly check if the wifi, bluetooth, today setting, volume button, and file explorer works perfectly. I will release the final version most probably today with latest build

Excellent feedback!
Ok lets start one by one as i said above once again this is meant for the major bug fixes that we faced. In final version all will be fixed actually the most of the bug u said they are intentionally done.
1. It is because due to lack of titanium.
2. Ya i will add arksoft or showcase.
3. & 4. Iam glad that bluetooth and wifi works perfectly.
5. Yes that ie problem that is build related i will change it to newer.
6. That is the dialer prob with all new builds oups i forgot to replace it will be done on final version.
7. Scrollbar will be removed.
So i can conclude that you have sent me a good feedback in which i expected the above things.

in 1., 2., 3. Its build related prob will change it.
4. Storage card is not coming that is because i havent put a customization that will automatically restart so you just have to once soft reset and plug ur usb cable and storage card will be there.

1. Volume button not working - No way its completely fixed. Still if its there that means iam misunderstanding please specify.
2. Bro in this case many want to close on pressing x button and many dont want so i keep it default that is it will not close.
3. Phone option please specify.

Hi Bro,
1. Volume button started working after few restarts.
2. Agreed with Windows Default
3. Phone option generally has "Vibrate when call connect"
Just one funny thing....when the device is locked you can very well click on "Start" then nothing gets clicked....
Please fix the display problem when person calls its not displaying the name...

For showcase you have to first go to home screen then it opens whereas arksoft can be accessed from any screen, so my vote goes to arkswitch let see what others say.
btw complete rom will be up in few hours or may be more than few hours.

Singapore to Generic Latest + Rooting + Other few Q`s

I got my X10 Black on saturday , Very excited ... and i can surely say that this is the best phone SE has given us since k750... Its been a happy 6 years with SE and i dont regret for being a fan for all these days.. and now X10... man .. What a phone....
anyway coming to the issue
I am from India , but i got a singapore handset .. and its R2BA020 GENERIC
when i go to the service menu it says country Singapore , Brand : Singtel
I want to change it to the latest firmware without crapwares like moxifier and also want generic india , as i think se is rolling updates faster in india... correct me if i am wrong..
I also want to root since i want to remove certain apps alone .. mediascape and timescape are awesome and defualt mediaplayer is good...(looks are killer )
anway how to get a rooted generic latest firmware on my phone ?
also here are other few question ...
1.) can i make folder and arrange the menu icons .. since such a huge list looks like dustbin , i just wana arrange them and put the little apps like battery widget which is listed in my menu innto a folder , this way only the main apps are in the menu list and also put all the games into a folder..
2.) is there a way to change the background of the menu screen into some wallpaper or someother color , DARK BLUE IS horrible... and sometimes it goes into black
3.) tell me few tips to imprive battery , already runing juicedefender , helixlauncher , and put screen brightness to auto .. tell me few other tips..
4.) when i long press the menu button , it shows few apps , are they running apps or what ? and how to stop a app ? i am currently using Astro`s running process killer... but tell me few other methods to stop apps , and how to stop apps which doesnt have a exit button ?

1)No you cant make folders. The menu cant be changed. Its a deficiency which needs to be improved.
2) No, unless you use some launcher like ADW where you can apply themes and change the menu color.
3) For batter life i suggest to change to ADW launcher. I find it better than helix. Also use Advanced task killer.juice defender uses a lot of battery. Remove the timescape widget from your homesreen and undo the refresh automatically option.
4)Use advanced task killer. The apps you see the 6 most recently used apps.
5) proximity sensor gets activated when you are on a call.
6) Of course you can. There are a few. Dunno the names, i use the stock.
7) No idea. I suggest you port the numbers to fav and dial from there. Long press a contact and call.
8)Well port the most used contacts to favorites and long press to call.
9)No data stored in the SD card has to be removed manually.
10) Root your phone and use an app called Barnacle Wifi tethering. Works great.
11)All apps are safe.
12)Download Weather and toggle widgets. You shall get everything there. Or just download a widget from the market.
P.s. Its me dreamcatcher.

i) Use a home screen replacement like Adw and treat each screen as a folder. That's hat I do.
ii) Once again, get ADW.
iii) I will post something regarding this on my blog soon. WIll tweet you the link, after it's done. But for now the just is get setCPU and throttle your processor intelligently.
iv) In generaly you don't need to bother yourself w/ background apps in Android, but you can use any one of the dozens of apps available. You can also use Autokiller.
v) You don't need to bother yourself with it. It happens automatically.

vii) There is no speed dial, but there are favourites.

x) Install connectify, create a hotspot and use connect ot it from your phone.
xi) What app are you planning on using? If its something like Advanced Task Killer, everything is safe.
xii) Juiced Defender, APN settings. But, I found it to be creating problems for me.

One more thing .. is there a way to extract the profile pics from facebook and integrate into contacts.. there is way to link the contacts to facebook/twitter profiles in timescape .. but y doesnt it take the profile pic and atacch it to the contacts ?
and also is there a way to make the volume button .. long press to skip the song ? we used to have in older SE na...

Not sure about the firmwire thing. Regarding contacts, just use Phonebook 2.0.

Facebook Sync imports facebook profile pics to your phonebook.
I also recommend Gesture Search. You can set it to only show results from the phonebook and then you just press the green phone-icon to the left to dial up.

[Q] Lagging

A few days ago i noticed some not so smooth scrolling when in my calls log. So i thought the phone had been on too long and did a reboot (which solved the scroll lag).
After the boot. I went into the menu and most of my apps had disappeared (i think mainly on my sd). After a minute or two they appeared (out of order and all on the last menu ) so im guessing it was the sd card (which is the standard class 2 i think which came with the phone) My sd has like 12gb free still. And i only have like 25 apps/games. Anybody noticed similar things? And would upgrading my sd to a higher class slove the prob?
I also noticed that when my phone is on standby and i open the game pad without unlocking the phone (takes 20 secs maybe to launch) then press the back or home button. The 4 quick links next to the menu icon have no icons just blank sqaures for a 10 seconds or so. The same if i open the menu a few icons are the blank ones then they appear. Is this the same for other people?
I never noticed this problem before. And its bugging me. The phone is not rooted, uses the standard wallpaper. And only i have google search on the main screen no widgets. Any suggestions? Im gonna try a reset but thought i would see if other people had any similar experiences. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated

What you are probably seeing here is Android's garbage collection system in place. Basically, when apps need memory, the OS will transparently kill apps that aren't in use without telling you. Generally, the user shouldn't really notice it... but things like your apps not all showing right away is normal when the home app is starting back up after having been killed previously. Things that are relatively resource intensive, such as the Playstation emulator built into the Xperia Play, will most likely cause all other apps that are non-essential to be killed.
I don't know if you've used other Android phones before, but it's pretty normal.

Yeah this is my first android phone . Suppose if its pretty normal i will get used to it in time. Maybe i will unroot the phone and remove all the crap and see if that makes it any better. Thanks for the reply btw

what launcher are you using? if you use launcher pro, there is a "system persistant option" this means it will not kill your launcher in the background, and the apps disapearing issue should not happen

Im just using the standard play UI. Thinking of trying Launcher Pro or GO Launcher EX. If i unlock my phone before opening the game pad the icons are there. Also if i give my phone 20-30 secs after rebooting my apps are where i left them. So i guess i need to have more patience lol

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF THIS ANDROID 7 ON Z3+.
Advantages..
1. Battery is lasting more than MM.
2. Stamina mode comes with 3 level stamina features.
3. Split Screen Apps are awesome.
4. Heating is less, I think they avhieved that by closing the background apps.
5.Camera app doesnt heatup the phone and lasts open till 5 min( I checked for 5 minutes only may be it ll show heating warning after that, I just dont know about it).
6. Now both the wallpaper and lockscreen can be handled easily with the same option WALLPAPER provided at SETTING app.
Disadvantages.
1. The Icons for the apps CONTACTS, MESSAGING, PHONE, CAMERA are so ugly.
2. One cannot go to the homepage by clicking recent navbar and then by clicking at the clear space of the recent apps menu.
3. While phone is locked the phone doesnt react to double tap unlock like it used to be in MM.
4. While the phone is locked the Icons of battery, network, clock etc are placed slightly lower than the Icons placed in the unlocked screen. LOCKING UNLOCKING CREATES AN UGLY LOOK OF MISPLACEMENT OF THESE ICONS.
5. The Battery icon in the status bar is too weird. ( Doesnt like it look).
6. The Data traffic indicator ( the small arrows up and down are way too small, the indicator which shows below 2g, 3g, H+ and LTE on the status bar)
7. They removed the option of selecting the FOCUS MODE in the camera app.
8. I compared the pictures taken by my phone when its in LP, MM AND N, I must say in LP this phone used to capture photos brilliantly, in MM the pics are somewhat lower than LP. 9. Remove/ Quit apps wisely, I am downloading some apps from UC BROWSER and then I exit the app and keep the downloading in the background but when I cleared the app from the recent apps list just to make my recent app section to look empty, it stopped my downloading too and the APP UC BROWSER was completely shut. (This option is in LP TOO BUT NOT IN MM) So close apps wisely.
11. They abandoned the small apps, Yes they are there but not easily accessible, now accessing small apps are quit pain in the ASS.
12. The apps in the Recent apps looks very big.
13. New quick tiles are good but one cannot direct shut data from there.
Thats all dear Fellas, I like the UI OF MM more than this N.
I THINK SONY JUST BAKED THIS N FOR US IN HURRY.

I really think the Android N update is very good for this device. Camera quality has improved in N - try some low light shots - noise is much lower. The UI is very fluid.

For my device not update notice for now...but I see that in Russia update is out in these days...
So, for now I can't comment about N on my Z3+...but thank you very much for this thread...I hope more users tell opinions about this new update...
I would like to learn more about:
- camera is more fast or not, compared to MM? About picture quality seems the two different opinions are contrary..so, other user opinion about camera?
- N as it looks in terms of reactivity on our device?
- Audio? From speakers and in headset? There are some new optimizations or similar?

Why? Maybe they add some features (manual camera settings etc.) or this update have many erros....

Hope that removed for the reasons you've mentioned :fingers-crossed:

Using Nougat Indian Firmware
Advantages-
1. Camera quality is better
2. Split screen
3. Smooth Ui
4. Performance Enhancment
5. Battery backup improved
6. Brightness dim Issue in sunlight is fixed upto great extent
7. Heating issue is much more solved
Disadvantages ( Huge list but Listing major one)
1. Touch issue (Lackness in touch sensitivity)
2. No manual Focus in Camera Menu
3. Sound Quality reduced (Vibrations in back panel)
4. Can't download apps frome playstore in Roaming.
5. Now we have to double tap to activate data from notification bar
So, its better to push updates for fixing these problems. I hope sony would release updates.

Number 4 and 5 from @ag_themes list are customisation dependent. Both are not present in Russian Nougat that also was on servers before withdrawal.
Also I don't have any touch issues. The sound problems mentioned are the main reason of update withdrawal.
Btw. No overheating is probably connected with reduced usage of a57 cores. Nougat uses them rarely comparing to marshmallow (some report says they are disabled in nougat).

Slightly more responsive ( like 5 percent)
camera is same (with an added option in manual mode)
audio is also similar
i feel battery consumption when device is used is same ( maybe doze helps when phone is in sleep but i didnt notice much improvement)
My device hanged once (in youtube app). Restarted itself after 5 mins.
Indirect access to small apps ( i never really used them)

Yes it is.
Make sure you have applied a ringtone and its not in Do Not Disturb mode.

Nope, not true. With out bootloader unlock, it is impossible to root the device.
IOVYROOT will get temp root access to backup the TA Partition, but after reboot, the device loses the root access. It is only for taking backup, you can not modify the system. If you try to modify the system with temp root access, your device will be dead after reboot.
