[Q] No OS only clockworkrecovery mod and a computer - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I recently deleted and formatted everything even lost all my recoveries and back ups and am trying to put nexus 4 stock rom back on to my device. What do I do? I still have clockworkrecovery mod but that's it and a computer to work with.

Download the factory images of your choice and flash them. It is the 15th time today that I am telling this to some one.

I've just done this and used Nexus Root Toolkit, absolute god send. Just plug your phone in, as long as you can get to fastboot, then flash stock + unroot and in a short amount of time you should be back to good.

ok that's what I was doing but I was going to try to install zip from sideload cause I don't even know how to get to my sd card and the android 4.3 stock rom I was downloading earlier was taking hours and my computer got shut off so that never completed.

Flash rom with adb. You will be fine

Then start with your computer first. Fix it and then fix your phone.

Can you not into recovery? If not maybe adb a custom recovery then adb a rom and not into recovery?
BTW this should be in the Q&A forum

thanks for your reply, i can get into recovery, and i reflash recovery using nexus 4 toolkits too. but when i go into recovery it still "couldn't open directory" , anything wrong of it?
I have used the info from the site below in the past. It was written for the nexus 7, so make sure that you grab and flash the nexus 4 files instead of the nexus 7 files.
Like I said, this has worked for me but use at your own risk. This will completely wipe out the phone and return you to stock.

If you read the app info on play store it says it won't work on 4.3 but they are trying to find a fix.

Ok so we just have to sit tight correct?
Sent From My Rooted G3
I would sit tight and let the app developers try and straighten things out. I updated my nexus4 to 4.3 but will wait awhile before doing my n7. I'm sure it won't be long!

Ok need a little help trying the root kit but for some reason I keep getting adb can't connect
Sent From My Rooted G3
Only thing I can suggest is make sure you have USB debugging enabled and make sure you have the correct drivers installed. It's probably best to ask in the thread of the toolkit you're using, I haven't tried many toolkits but wugs has a pretty good walk thru for driver installation http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766475

I followed the instructions in the thread below for 'Already updated to 4.3 and have an OTA notificaion? (JWR66Y from JWR66V)'.
I unrooted, flashed the update zip in recovery and immediately after flashed the superuser zip and all was fine.

For some reason I lost root again anyone suggest anything to do to get it back ?

Boot into recovery and flash Chainfire's SuperSU package. After that you are rooted.

Bought a Nexus 4, but am worried now.

I just purchased a Nexus 4 and upon checking out the device I noticed the model number says Full JellyBean on Mako. What does this mean?

Mako is the code name given for the nexus 4 device. Jelly Bean is an Android release.
Mine said: Nexus 4. Did you buy it new or used. If used and you're worried, just flash the factory stock 4.3 image which will erase everything previously.

I bought it off of Craigslist. Person listed it as new, still had the plastic on it.

Most likely a custom rom. It doesn't look like the kernel is stock kernel to me. It's safest to do a full wipe and factory reset. You should update to 4.3 anyway, use this guide:

I wasn't able to update to 4.3, and my computer wasn't recognizing the phone either. However, after booting the phone into bootloader, my computer recognized it. So I unlocked it and am currently flash stock 4.3 onto it via Nexus Toolkit.
Hopefully it works out for you. However, try not to use toolkits in the future. If something goes wrong at some point you won't know what to do if you rely on toolkits. Learn the manual method of flashing.

I know how to manually flash and all that. It's just I already had Toolkit installed and just thought it would be quicker.

Yeah, just enable USB debugging and it should recognize. If USB debugging doesn't work (it should), try installing drivers again (manually).
Don't forget to hit "thanks"

Alright, you've got root and clockwork. That's a start. Basically, if the ota won't load, you're gonna have to use clockwork to flash it your self. Flashing a ROM is when you delete the /system partition (it contains your systemui, jelly bean itself, etc.). Basically find a ROM, factory reset, flash it. You might not have to factory reset but as always...
Take a backup!

Heres the screenies:

OTA updates are always slow. If you want 4.4.2 now; download the image file and flash it via fastboot. Make sure to back up all your files to a computer.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
Its just solved without me doing any..it just happen that early this morning i had my 4.4.2 downloaded and ready for the installation..i installed it without any problems..anyway guys, need to lock the thread.tnx
