I downloaded md5 checker app and selected md5sum from the system/ xbin file for the first option and then selected the zip file for the rom I want to flash and clicked check. Are the two strings of numbers supposed to match?

filename.tar.md5 just delete it to look like this:
filname.tar
I wil have upload mirror mirrors up later tonight

What am I missing? Odin can read tar.md5 files. I was of the understanding that these are tar files that have had the md5 checksum rolled into them, and that Odin will do a hash check on the file first, which should be safer. Will Odin still do the hash check if the file is just renamed, or will it ignore the checksum? It seems to me it would be better to make sure the instructions tell them to use the tar.md5 file in the first place.

Dude, you're an idiot. All the .md5 after the .tar does is force Odin to do a MD5 check. An MD5 check determines if the file is the correct size and thus if any bits are missing. You do NOT want to flash a .tar if it's failing the MD5 test, so all removing the .md5 does is make flashing via Odin more dangerous.
In addition, if your phone is passing the MD5 test and is hanging afterwards, removing the .md5 extension will accomplish absolutely nothing.
IN SHORT: DO NOT FLASH WITHOUT THE MD5 CHECK. IF THE FILE IS CORRUPT IT WILL LIKELY SOFT BRICK (OR POSSIBLY PERMANENTLY BRICK) YOUR PHONE.
PS: OP, learn how not to quadruple-post.

let's go to the basics
first make sure to flash your back up based on the cwm used to back it up in the first place
second check if your back up is placed in the clockworkmod folder and has no spaces
if the above fails then flash the stock firmware of your back up then restore your back up
ex:
your back up was based on DXKL2, so to match the md5 flash DXKL2 and restore your back up
ps: worked for me
Try using Cwm by madteam..

can u open .md5 file n tell wats in it?
the most posible reason behind these problem is because the backup was not succes or there was problem with the sdcard. try to reformat your sdcard in your computer without using quick format option. after that try to make a backup and restore.
good way

How do I create a zip that can be installed through CWM?
Sent from my U8800 using xda app-developers app
Try App2zip https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=scd.app2zip
Well I didn't meant apps. Imagine to add some tweaks or files to a specific directory. If you open zips that can be flashed through CWM you can see that there is a group of folders that actually tells where the files will be installed

You can download some package for this phone for flash and delete all in /system than you can copy what do you want to flash to /system. Than compresse to .zip
Happy flashing!
How to port applicAtions from other devices to sgy? thanks
Sent from my GT-S5360 using xda premium
This method requires your device to be rooted.....
1) Firstly check whether the application can run on arm v6...(go to app /lib/if their is folder named armebi then u can install it on sgy)
2) check whether app requires lib files...if yes then copy it to your sdcard
3) now go to system/etc/permissions
and check xml files which required for app to be installed...
Copy that xml file to your sdcard
4) open above xml file ...
In that file, their given a framework file......
Copy that framework file from /system/framework to your sdcard
5) copy all files at appropriate place in your system...change permissions and reboot......
6) after that install apk.....and enjoy.....
Sorry for bad english.....

No! You have the wrong file if unzipping it doesn't give you an md5
No! You have the wrong file if unzipping it doesn't give you an md5.
Go get the right file. When you unzip it it will have the md5. Flash it through odin as a PDA.
Then you'll be all good.

im ODIN-ing back to UCUAMDB for now, DL'ing on this connection is painfully slow, like 4 hrs per ROM.
thanks; figured it wasnt right.
