Sound too loud on lowest setting - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) General

Hey everyone,
Just getting my note 10.1 setup and so far im loving it. Its my first tablet and the fact it has a stylus finally made having a tablet more practical for me. One thing I am not a fan of is that when I have the sound turned down to the lowest setting it is too loud. Is there any built in eq that I can use to scale the sound?
So far im using a downloaded app "Music Volume EQ" which is working but needs to be running and then it takes up space in my notifications bar which I really dont like.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

I don't know about this specific app, but most apps do have an option to disable notification entries in settings. I was fed up with the Skype app persistently displaying my online status in the notification tray until I noticed an option to disable it in the app's preferences.
'might wanna try looking for it there.

Prevent "stacking" of alerts and notifications - how?

I'd like to prevent my notifications and program "badges" (can't think of the proper word!) From stacking up in my notification bar at the top of the screen.
It happens when i have a lot of icons there already, ie wifi, alarm etc. Despite there being plenty of room in the middle of the bar, my notifications all stack into one icon on the extreme left hand side with the number of different programs/notifications shown as a number.
Is there a way to prevent this behaviour and force android to use all the available space on the notification bar?
I'm running Ion r2 on my Dream, although my phone has always done this, with the stock rom and JF 1.5 as well.
Thanks for any help anyone can offer!
Sure, keep the number of notifications low and they won't stack. They stack when you run out of space on the bar. I know you think that there's lots of space, but if you unstack them, rest assured that there are definitely too many to fit in the space available.

Unfortunatly there is no forseen solution to this problem. I experience it as well. I think the best we can hope for are new phones with higher resolutions.

This isn't right. There is definitely space for 4 more icons, yet it stacks with just 2.

I'm on Ionr2 and I have 4 icons (email, Toggle Settings, Twidroid, USB) on the left side before the stacking starts. I'm not sure if it's gone up to 5 or not.

When the phone is in portrait mode it stacks when there are more than 2 items on the left hand side - even though there is space for more items. When in landscape, it shows all the notifications/app icons individually.
Very annoying, since the home screen will only display in portrait mode and wont auto rotate when the phone is turned.
Im convinced there must be something i can do to fix this issue!

I was talking about portrait mode. I'm pretty sure there's a fix since I do not have this problem. However, my home screen does rotate though, since I have dxTop.
Do you happen to have Quick Calendar installed? Even though Quick Calendar did not display a little icon on the top for each item in the list and only say in my "ongoing" area on the bar, when I removed it the stacking you talk about went away! It was driving me crazy too, but it seems like either Quick Calendar or the OS sees each entry, even though it doesn't have an icon and counts them.
Not sure if it will help you, but my phone has been working properly after I disabled Quick Calendar. It's a shame, I like the app. :-/

Genius! Removing Quick Calendar solved the problem - thanks!
I've put a link to this thread at the devs website - perhaps when he has solved the issue he could let us know, so we can go back to using his otherwise useful app.
Never had this type of problem, only thing is that my colors blend together because of the custom theme I am using >.<
Ok, I confirmed with the developer this morning, it is QuickCal, though I guess any other app that hides icons would also have this problem as it is a restriction in the os. Jim (the developer) works for google and plans to petition his employer to make some changes to the way the notify bar works. The os allows the developer to 'hide' notification icons, but they still take up an invisible space.
We should see an update in the next couple of days to make a nicer widget with more info and smaller font size, so this may satisfy me if the widget is decent.

Screen Brightness Changes by itself

I have a problem where the screen brightness varies by itself without any input from me. I have turned off automatic brightness and set the screen brightness at the lowest level in an attempt to save battery life. However, when I use the phone at a later time I would recognize a difference in the screen brightness. When I go to check it in settings, the screen brightness level is set at a different level.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Go into settings sound and brightness and uncheck the power saving option at the bottom and ofcourse make sure u uncheck auto brightness.

also i read in another post that the TouchWiz user interface has a built in feature that will adjust brightness when you swip your finger at the top of the screen, making it brighter when you swipe left to right and dimming the screen when you swipe right to left.

That must be it! Thanks! I must have swiped left/right on the top of the screen without realizing it. Kind of annoying for them to sneak in a feature like that. I can see it being useful but I prefer the power control widget. Any idea how I can disable that feature of touchwiz?
getting ridd of touchwiz was the first thing i did when i got my epic so i dont really know much about it .

How did you get rid of touchwiz? I installed Launcherpro over it but that doesn't do away with touchwiz.
There was a thread on here for that from what i can remember, i cant look for it right at this moment because im at work but you should be able to find it yourself. Search for "removing touchwiz UI" if you cant find it go to google (it might have been a diff forum/Blog it was a few days ago).
You guys can change your home screen launcher, but you won't be able to get rid of TouchWiz until a vanilla ROM comes out. The ability to adjust adjust your brightness via swipe on the notification bar is - for better or worse (better imho) - not dependant on you using the TW launcher.

If you root the epic, you CAN manually uninstall all touchwiz packqages to remove the ui...
That notification taskbar swipe is pretty handy tho... thanks to whoever shared it... I like to keep my screen dim for the most part... but that is soooo much easier to use when, say I go outside and need to adjust quickly! It even works in landscape mode! Nice!

Root your Epic, download Root Explorer from market (worth the price), make sure you already have Launcher PRO running, then go to running applications and force close TouchWiz30Launcher then go to root explorer > system > app (make sure you mount it as r/w) > and delete TouchWiz30Launcher.apk and .odex, then reboot and that's it.
You can also use terminal app if you're familiar with commands.

That... is... awesome! Did not know that. Guess I can get rid of the brightness app since adjusting the brightness through the menu on the fly was painfully boring.

Thoughts on possible Honeycomb enhancement

Has anyone else found it a bit cumbersome on the Xoom to change the audio volume all the time with the manual buttons or even use the hard buttons to trigger the volume slider to appear? I think it would be a huge perk if a volume slider would be included on the music app and even in the settings popup in the corner like the brightness? Thoughts / opinions from others? I wanted to see if others would see value in this to take it to google for an potential future enhancement.

i agree! i'm using the motorola cover and changing the volume sucks. if it could be used as a slider in the notifications bar that would be awesome.
They should make it to where you can pick what shows up on the notification pop up. I would like to see toggles for bluetooth, wifi added a volume slide just like the display settings. If you could pick which settings showed there that would be a huge +1 And the ability to resize the widgets with out needing a new launcher installed (LP+ ADW).
There is a solution to the Volume issue mentioned in the OP.
There's an app for that!™
It appears you can also put it in the task bar.
I'm so used to having skins on top of android (sense, touchwiz) that I kind of feel the need of having one on top of honeycomb. I admit that HC the way it is looks so frigging naked. The media player is dull, and the widgets are boring. IMO.

OTA Annoyances

Not sure whether I'm the only one but there are a few things that really bugging me with the OTA:
1) Auto-brightness now just always keeps me at the lowest brightness. I prefer the auto but not if its going to make my screen always dark.
2) The camera actually seems to take not as good pictures for some reason. Everything looks more washed out, especially in low light cases.
3) The default black background worked with all programs, and the white just doesn't. For example FPSE: when you are picking from a list of roms if the list doesn't go all the way to the bottom then where there are things to pick from its black and below it its white. Titanium Backup has the same thing below the list of schedules. It is frekin ugly and just doesn't look right like it did before.
4) The top bar icons just don't look as nice as the old ones.
5) Talking over the phone everyone sounds quiter and grainer

I've noticed that low light pictures suck now.
I'm not having the same low light picture issues.
Also, if some apps look bad because of the new theme, those app makers should fix their apps. If just one app inherits the new color-schemes, all apps can. Some programmers are not using "best practice" techniques in this case.
For example, they manually set the background color and font color, rather than inherit from the colors from the system. Should be a simple fix for them, if they care.

For those that don't mind using Bluetooth, I highly recommended the Motorola H720.
This headset isn't that expensive, and IMHO it greatly enhances the call quality on ALL of my Android phones.
I'm still on (Bell) Froyo, but the H720 might be worth a shot for anyone disappointed with call quality...

Since upgrading to official Gingerbread, my Gmail icon no longer shows up in the messaging app. Gmail still works, but when I go into messaging all other accounts are listed except my Gmail app account. Gmail was always listed in the messaging app in Froyo. My wife hasn't upgraded yet and Gmail list listed in messaging on her Atrix. Is anyone else having this issue?
Daneren, I agree the new color theme is horrible. The color and symbols on the notification bar really bad.
low light pic sucks!!! Colors seem a little cheap on the menu bar.

This is why I think Motorola should have put the new exposure setting onscreen instead of in the menu settings. That setting makes a huge difference in picture quality, and I have to adjust it way too much for it to be in menu setting.
I am disapointed with a few things also. Low light pics seem effected, I cant tether anymore, my quadrant standard score is 300-800 lower consistantly now, there is an annoying lag when I unlock with the slider, and I prefer the top bar icons with 2.2.2.

Have you tried a 3rd party app like Barnicle Tethering?...

If you're rooted wifi tether for root seems to work fine for me.
I'd rather do that than manually dig around sql files and possibly bork something (as per the mod in the dev section).
As a formed N1 user I miss my vanilla android sometimes
To add to that
-home screen seems to be less responsive
- battery indicator inaccurate
Haven't tested a lot. Will take time to test all the options and features.
However the new keyboard seems to be an improvement though.

No bugs or issues here but new MOTOBLUR home looks and performs worse than its predecessor.
As far as picture and video quality I see no difference.

Should be on the album art, if that doesn't work... Idk.
thx doesn't work, over to winamp.
Would prefer stock (lockscreen features, less bloat/ram)
Car dock became atrocious. You now can only add 4 apps to it, the rest is either close button (two of that), and stupid music player functionalities (music player, internet radio, podcast player) or voice search.
I also have ran into the issue with the battery indicator.

If you are looking for a player that's close to the previous, give PlayerPro a try. (Has trial but not free)
If you want a free player with even less permissions used than Winamp, give Zimly a try.
I currently have both players on my phone...

Question about customizing notifications

I got a 6P a few days ago, after getting a Galaxy Tab S2 a few weeks ago. These are my first Android devices and I'm still figuring things out.
One of the things that I'm kinda frustrated about is notifications. I'm used to iOS where I can control all notification settings for all apps in one spot (banners, sounds, lock screen, notification center, etc). Unless I'm missing something, it seems like Android notifications are controlled individually in each app, and the granularity of control you have over what type of notifications it produces is at the mercy of whatever settings the developer decided to implement. Is this an accurate assessment? And yes I'm aware of the Notifications area in Settings that allowed to control peeking and sensitivity.
Specifically, I have an app (Flickr) that I want to get lock screen notifications for, but it makes a sound for each notification - which I absolutely do not want. There is only one setting in the app - Notifications enabled or disabled. Is there somewhere else I can go to configure it to retain a lock screen notification but disable sound? Or am I just stuck with whatever the app allows me to do?
You are correct. And feel on the app you may find you have no control over the type and frequency of those alerts.
