Not sure if I'm able to do this but I really like the stock weather widget on the T-Mobile LG G2. It's a customized version of the accuweather widget with animations. I have the apk and odex files which i copied to system\apps and gave all three groups read permission, rebooted and still can't seems to see it in the list. When I try to select/install the apk in file browser, it fails to install.
After thinking about it, i'm even wondering if it's possible to take a stock apk and transfer/install it on another phone entirely.
I'm running stock ROM on 4.4.2 KOT49H

As shocking as it may seem I want some blur on my phone! Im currently running gummy 2.5 but after using blur for a couple of months i miss the messaging, email, alarm, camera, sticky note widget and most importantly the icons! is there anyway for me to get any of this back? I tried installing the apks but to no avail. I think I could do with just the icons. Any advice? Thanks!
They won't install like normal apks to the best of my knowledge. You seem to have all of the APKs though from blur so try one of these methods, not 100% sure it will work but it likely should. (Edit: I'm not entirely sure what you are talking about with the icons, but this should help you get the APKs you want back)
REMEMBER TO BACKUP EVERYTHING BEFORE DOING EITHER OF THESE!
1) Download the empty InstallAPKs.zip from this post.
2) Open the archive in 7z or winrar
3) Navigate to system/app and put all the APKs you wan't to install into the zip (just drag them into the archive and let it add/update them. I'd have stuck them in the zip for you but I don't have any blur apks with me)
4) Reboot recovery and install the zip
or
1) You could manually go into the system folder and replace the apks using root explorer. Remember to set permissions to 644 for each file you replace if doing this.
Hello,
I have the new Honeycomb dialer apk and I was under the impression if you just placed the new dialer apk in the systems/app folder of the rooted android device it would change to the new apk on reboot.
Well, I have placed the apk in systems/app, deleted the old apk and rebooted and no change. What is interesting is I have opened the new Honeycomb dialer apk in Super Manager and tried to install and I keep getting the error "Application not installed".
What am I doing wrong?
Just as a note, I have installed the new Honeycomb music player with no problems. My phone is an EU HD2 and I am on a custom Gingerbread ROM.
Thank you in advance for any help.
Are you talking about a literal Honeycomb (Android 3.0) dialer application, or just a themed dialer from a different version? If you have an actual Honeycomb apk please post it or link to it; I was unaware one existed at this point, seeing as the OS is only for tablets so far.
In reference to your question, apps generally need to get installed as opposed to just copied/pasted into system folders. Either try installing it via something that calls the app installer process (browse to the apk in ASTRO File Manager for example) or try manually installing it via adb. If adb fails then it's probable that it simply can't be installed on your device or ROM.
Hope that helps.
Here's what i did
i wanted the stock gallery 3d app so badly so i took it from stock jpm (both the odex and apk)
then i placed them both in the system/app/ folder
strange ..didn't work.. (didn't show in app drawer at all..)
so i installed gallery 3d from market and then replaced that apk with the stock gallery apk
even strange.. when i opened the gallery app, i got the old gallery app not the stock app
for those who are wondering.. stock gallery app is flawless and has blue highlighting while the one in the market has yellow highlighting and appears patched while scrolling and is damn slow..
question is.. how do i install stock apps in custom roms??
I had the same problem but then with touchwiz and on a stock rom:
I wanted to enable landscape mode in touchwiz and for some kinda reason I deleted the touchwiz30launcher.apk and the odex file... I tried to place it again but with no succes... For another reason my phone was captured into a bootloop so I flashed the firmware again and everything works fine. I would also like to know how you get that stock apps working if they weren't on your phone after flashing...
ok atleast tell me how to deodex apps..
is it enough to move the /data/dalvik-cache/classes.dex into the corresponding apk??
I liked some of the old programs from the original HC 3.1 with no TW interface for example the calendar most importantly, the old email app and the movie studio app. is there a guide on how to repackage and replace these in the touchwiz. I also don't like the touchwiz music app I'd rather use google's new music beta with cloud sync.
If there's a guide on how I'd really appreciate it...if not the only thing I ask for is the calendar.apk I really miss the column week view and this is sort of crucial to my work and seeing what hours I have open during the week. I havn't found a good one with a good column view and good integration to google on the market.
thanks
You should be able to just take the apk's and any required libs (probably not needed) and place them in your system folder and change the permissions to match that of the rest of the system apps using root explorer our something similar. You could get the apk's and files from any rom, like stock or bonsai. You can download music beta from the market instead of the samsung music app. Although you will probably want to de-odex the file system first...not sure if anyone had done it for TW yet.

Tried that stuff it doesn't seem to work, I'm sticking to stock for now!
I've tried to flash the LG weather widget APK for the stripped down stock rom I'm on (lollipop), but it won't let me install the APK. I've been able to install the other APKs I wanted, but for whatever reason this one won't install. Is there something beside the Weather APK needed to install it?
