Will Sprint limit me? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Had anyone suffered consequences for using data to much? Ever since I got my s4 I've been using 4g all the time listening to music from Google music Netflix etc. Last month I did about 10gb it's only been like 5 days on this month cycle and I'm already at 5.5gb so was wondering if I can see consequences or will I be good? Reason I have so much use is that I don't ever turn on my Wi-Fi since I have 4g I just leave it as is...in case you're wondering.

Nope you are fine.

Unless you're roaming a lot, they will not say a thing. I was using far more than that this summer via the hotspot mod wireless tether, and they never bothered me about it.

nope thats the benefit of having sprint

Ok thanks guys

Like the above posters said you should be ok. I do know someone that was booted from sprint entirely for too much data used while roaming, lol. They get a little upset about that for sure.

Safest way to tether without a plan on T Mo?

Id like to tether on the Nexus 4 rarely, but it might use a chunk of data. Is there a way to do so without them detecting it? I know a lot of people frown upon asking these questions, but id like to know
Thank you!
Haha! It probably is going to be very difficult without actually hacking into their servers. And once you are caught I doubt the trouble you would get if you get caught will be fun. So in short, maybe if you are a 1337 h4x0r.

So the tethering apps cant spoof the traffic to look like its mobile?
They detect you by sniffing for your browser "User Agent".
1) Use an encrypted VPN tunnel as your default gateway.
2) Use HTTPS URL's
3) Change your browser User Agent
Are 3 ideas that come to mind.
Easy? I'd you enable wireless hotspot under data, it works great! I use it sometimes, never had issues. I had a family emergency last week and my mom literally had to fly to Russia same day we found something out. Long story short I ended up driving to her house and helping her with everything. She had to unlock her iPhone 5 on sprint so that she could get a Sim over there temporarily.
Reset the iPhone and we had to leave to the airport. Since I cloud doesn't do anything over mobile network, I had to make my nexus into a hotspot while we drove, besides tmo is like 100x faster than sprint. Anyway, all was well, at the the end of the day my data usage shows 2gb worth of data, no problems.

I really don't think T-mobile cares as much as you are thinking. I use my phone to tether to my xbox and tablet quite a lot since my wifi sucks, and they haven't said anything. I think it might be that they don't monitor prepaid plans as closely, but what's the worst that could happen?
Without a data plan or without a tethering plan? There are ways to tether without a tethering plan such as VPN.
What if I connected my phone to my home VPN and funneled all traffic through there?
awesome
yesterday i found new galaxy s3 ))))))))
If you don't overdo it, T-Mobile won't bug you.

My data is really horrible

I'm in Houston Texas on T-Mobile.
It seems it takes a long time to connext to something. Web browsing is ok and instagram takes forever to load pics. I have full bars when this is happening and sometimes on 3g and sometimes on hspa.
I am wondering if the phone is defective or the service is that ****ty
I used to be on tmobile went to Verizon and came back to tmobile.
Vz is way more expensive but now I see why.

Seems like you already made up your mind that it is the service.

Have you tried tmobiles LTE here in Htown? It is better than decent. Ive been using it since they flipped the switch and I must say that the last couple of weeks has been kinda wonky... Hopefully they are just trying to work out the bugs.
Likely the network is clogged. It happens on verizon too like this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-VVwPqhXw
Actually, I have a similar issue where if I don't use data for like ten seconds and I try to use it, there's a long delay (long enough to cause a loss of connection on the game Word feud) in which it comes back after like 5-10 seconds. I think that's called latency? I'm not sure and wanted to know if there's a way to fix that lag. Thanks in advance.

Its gotten progressively worse here by the reliant. Its worse than edge speeds even though I'll have full bars. Its annoying to have to carry around my VZW hotspot all the time. It didn't used to be this bad. Maybe its the influx of new iPhone users. Grrrr

No problems here in Tampa Florida. I regularly get approximately 20mbps down all the time except for peak hours, then its usually still around 15 or so. Hope you figure it out.

Yea I mean when I first got the phone it was fine and it just keeps getting worse. Idk I was thinking maybe if it was a setting.

Why no bluetooth tethering on Telus?

Im not sure why it isnt on the s4 its my biggest let down with this fantastic phone. I did a few search's i havnt seen any fixs. Why has this been removed?
Why would you want to? Hotspot is all you need.

I found it uses way less energy then the wifi hot spot.

Im suprised more people havnt complained about it. With a non mobile network nexus 7 it was very good. Im guessing they took it out cause of slow speed but it still worked great for navigation

Every time you turn on your WiFi you're being logged and tracked.
Spy agency tracked passengers for days through free Wi-Fi
http://news.nationalpost.com/2014/0...wi-fi-at-a-major-canadian-airport-cbc-report/
That's why your carrier allows for WiFi tether but disable Bluetooth tethering to encourage users to use wifi and be tracked by the government.

Hello my fellow At&t and sgs4ers

So just today I made the switch to at&t from sprint. Very happy so far, minus what I had to put down (let's not go there)
But I got the 1gb plan and was wondering what everyone else has. cause I'm on the edge of deciding wheth 1gb was enough. I guess it depends on usage of course. But while I was on sprint I usually barely go over 1.2 gb.
I guess I just have to be extra careful. Do you guys have any thoughts or tips?

2gb just to be safe...
I am grandfathered into the unlimited plan...
It depends on your usage. My MIL had the 200MB plan and never had a problem.
My advice: Don't stream... anything. Use wifi as much as possible. Set your data usage alert so you know your usage before you go over.
I would say it depends on your previous phone. I just switched to AT&T to get my S4 as well (and regrettably but knowingly lost my unlimited plan) With my last device a Verizon HTC Incredible 2 (a 3g device on an unusualy slow Verizon connection), I would average 1.5GB a month 3-4. If I had to be away from WiFi.
I noticed with the GS4 being much faster and the faster LTE speeds, I can browse and pull data faster. If it weren't for my WiFi connections I'd be over 4GB already and I've had my S4 for 2 weeks now. I am sharing 4GB between 2 lines.
So I would definitly think about your previous phone and wireless speed in comparison to your S4.

Alright thanks guys.
I also kicked up juice defender for when my phone is off. Hopefully if it getd to close I'll be able to bump it up to the 3gb plan

I wouldn't use JD might use background data no? I stopped using JD or task killers long ago they make things worse. Like said above use WiFi as much as possible and set your mobile data reminder under data usage to like 800mb it will then warn you. Also pretty sure you can set a. Actual data limit in there too...

I have 2GB and never really even come close to 1GB. Only time I've gone over 1GB is if I watch netflix on data. Otherwise I do web browsing and listen to pandora a lot.

Well esentislly it turns off any mobile or wireless connection when the screens off.

I know I own the app but stopped using it because it is worse for battery and data consumption vs being diligent and manually changing things. Or using NFC tags to turn things on/off

I have unlimited and usually use ~2 - 2.5 GB a month (I stream Plex and Music often). Some months have gotten over ~5GB... but as suggested use Wifi if your concern about data and do not stream.

T-Mobile APN?

I just got this thing and it's an amazing phone. I absolutely love it. But for the first time after having it for a few days, I decided to go on a lengthy drive only to realize that MY PHONE DOESN'T GET DATA!!!! I messed with the APN settings once I got back and got it to work with 3G, but I had no luck getting 4G LTE. I can get 4G LTE on my other phones, but was wondering if others have experience similar issues, and what have you guys done to resolve them.
Thanks
nope....no issue where i live.....

Yeah, it's just my area. I used the APN that I was using on my nexus 5 and am now getting data. It appears to be pretty similar to the stock one, so I'm confused as to why that one wasn't working for me.
