Root or 4.4? - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I just got my Note 3 yesterday and already did the OTA MJE. Idk if it'll be better to just wait till 4.4 is out or just root and slap on a rom. I've been having a huge itch to root all night but I need some opinions. Thanks!

Root it.
Kingo root is the best.
(Yes it works on this OTA)
Fast. Easy. Doesn't trip knox.
I doubt this phone will get 4.4 until the spring time at the VERY earliest.

Has it been confirmed it works on this OTA?

Anyone obtaining root after OTA MJ7 update on Verizon

Seems I am a bit late on things. I already have MJ7 and have not tried to root. I assume Root de la Vega isnt working to get/obtain root? Anyone who didnt have it before MJ7 but now has MJ7 tried to get root?

People have got root on that version that have flashed a hexed version of it, and those who have the older boot loader have maintained the Knox counter at 0x0 in the process as well.

No worries about knox. I could care less if it trips. It's not a business or corporate device. It my personal device thst staye on/with my person.
Warranty for manufacturer defects is one thing. Software related issues causing functionality issues is what we come here for.

It does work with MJ7 on VZW. I did Kingo on mine a day or so ago. Works fine. It did take several times to go through Kingo though. IDK why. Kingo never finished all the way through and said rooted. It kept getting stuck on "waiting for device". I eventually downloaded a root checker from the market and it verified root
Also, Knox was not tripped for those who care (I dont)
I just used Kingo on mine and it worked with no issues.

Doesn't trip the Knox. I did it a couple weeks ago after updating to the MJ7 and just checked for the 3rd time today, just incase. It isn't tripped and it isn't going to trip. Kingo worked like a charm, so far. I just hope there is no adverse affects down the road, like my bank account being emptied.
Type of cable used?
For those of you successful in rooting with Kingo, congrats.
Question: Are you using the stock USB 3.0 cable or a USB 2.0 cable?
I've read elsewhere that Kingo had an issue with the stock USB 3.0 cable that came with the N3

Since my N3 can use a 3.0 it is what I use all the time. I do a lot of large videos so it makes life easier with the transfers
So to answer your question I used mt 3.0 for the Kingo
I removed my gmail accounts & any apps that may hold personal information. (Just in case). Pretty much just a brand new out-of-the-box Note 3
I used Kingo 1.1.4.1785. Root process worked flawless. This version of Kingo installs SuperSU 1.65 but I updated via SafeStrap 3.65 to SuperSU 1.75.
First thing I did was run a backup of my stock using SafeStrap (Thanks Hashcode0f!) Took about 25 minutes with compression enabled. Looking forward to Rom-ing in those SS slots!
mj7 recovery
I have a vzw s4 with rooted mj7 but I can not get any recovery to stick.
Any ideas?
thank you

IDK if the S4 and N3 would be the exact same. Is Kingo supposed to root the S4 also?
[Edit] i dont see the VZW S4 (i545) listed on Kingos site

safe root mj9?

Anyone come across a safe root method yet for the 4.3 mj9 build?
Retain root through the update with SuperSU survival mode... other than that only the "unsafe" methods are available.
yea i dont have root and did the over the air update now stuck on the 4.3 im trying to stay away from that vroot crap and wasnt sure if anything new came out or what

Either wait or test your luck.
Of the less secure methods available, I would certainly not choose vroot...

[Q] Where are Files to Root SM-N900V Note 3, 4.3

I reccently purchased a Note 3 from Verizon back in April. It came with and still has 4.3. I have not recieved an OTA for Kit Kat from Verizon yet. I came from a Rooted Droid Razr. I have never flashed any ROMS. I do want to Root my Note 3 to be able to run all the Root apps I have purchased. I have a couple questions and would really appreciate if anyone could answer them for me. I am familiar with Root but Im no Pro. Again I have Never Flashed any Roms or anything.
#1 I have heard of two ways to Root the Note 3, KINGO & ODIN. Which method is the Best to use. I did see a Root method on XDA if you want to go to Kit Kat with the ability to go back to 4.3. As of right now I dont want KIT KAT bc of the SD card issues I've read about. I really just want 4.3 Rooted. Unless I am advised otherwise. Im really not sure what would be the best thing to do.
#2 Once I have Rooted my Note 3. If and When Verizon sends the OTA for Kit Kat. What should I do? Not take it? Want I have to dismiss it every 12 hour? That could get annoying.
#3 Whatever Root method you advise me. Can you leave me a Link to the Files and the Instructions on how to Root it? Thanks for any help. Jason

If you are on MJ9 baseband you can use the Odin method for root but if you are on MJE you will have to use Kingo 1.1.8 or lower to root. Once you have root on MJE you can go up to the NC2 KitKat leak and the SD card issue is fixed and the VZW OTA is disabled. You can disable the OTA on 4.3 by disabling or deleting SDM1 client.

How do I know if I am on MJ9 or MJE? I looked throught my phones "About Phone" the only thing I can find close to that is the "Baseband Version" and mine is N900VVRUBMJE. Also the "Build Number" section ends in MJE. Im guessing this mean I am on the MJE. Right?

[Q] Looking for Root for Lollipop

I have an AT&T Galaxy S4 SGH-I337. I was so excited about the update to lollipop that I un-rooted my phone and downloaded it as soon as I could. I am enjoying it, but I miss root access. Has anyone come up with a way gain root access with this new update? I know with the 4.4.4 update we could flash the old kernel and use towel root, any chance something like that would work for this version?
If this is being dealt with in another thread I apologize, I did look.
Try TowelRoot APK https://towelroot.com/
----------------------------------------------
Please hit the thanks button if it worked
I'm interested in knowing how it turns out for you if you try towelroot. I got the lolipop update on my tab, and I'm liking it. However, I like having root so I haven't plunged in with my S4 yet, been doing some reading first.

Towle Root hasn't worked for the last few at&t updates. It's awesome but outdated.
Odin back to nb1, then root, then follow the instructions listed here.http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-to-update-to-i337oc3-5-0-1-keeproot-t3075814

Root for Verizon Note 3

Now that we have lollipop for note 3 is there a root method
NO
Don't expect one until the JasmineROM dev releases MultiSystem. For that we need to wait for Verizon/Samsung to release the firmware. Could be about a week from now at least, 2 at most.

Thanks for the info...waiting patiently...
No root is not possible after nc4 it may never be possible to root we will most likely get a pre rooted rom able to be loaded on the nc4 bootloader
So when should we expect root for the note 3 running lollipop? Now that lollipop is out for the Verizon note 3 I mean.
Ask the Note 4 people. They have been waiting for root on lollipop longer and nothing yet. Expect nothing but there is always hope.

Being able to boot from NC4 bootloader would be a plus! Then I can go back and forth between that and my trustworthy 4.4.2 ROM. Lolipop might not be able to load from an old bootloader though. We shall see.

It was done before probably can be done again, not sure if they updated the bootloader just yet
Yeah that would be nice if we could go back to 4.4.2 where there was root for Android

That was a while ago when it was done. 4.4.4 can not boot from NC4 firmware so more than likely 5.0 wont be able to do it either.
From reading HSBADRs thread, its looking like NC4 would be replaced by whatever the newest version is. There is no going back once you take his Lolipop ROM. So no backing up your 4.4.2 ROM before moving on because it wont work anymore. Safestrap will be gone as well and you will only have stock recovery.
Once you make that move to Lolipop, there is no going back to any of the previous ROMS that were released. That is a big commitment.
So no root for a while yet?
