Sent from my GT-S5360 using AWESOME ANDRO
hi friends...i tried rooting my galsxy y using update.zip...on flashing it in recovery mode it shows " update from sd card installed succefully" but on rebooting i cant find the superuser app...i also tried tried root checker...it says no root access found...please help friends...:screwy:

in stock recovery flash cwm (search if you dont have the cwm zip)
mount system data cache
flash This zip
select superuser by chainsdd
restart

Try Unviresal GB Root

Do not attempt any other 3rd party softwares (like universalGB root, Superoneclick etc) which are not made and not tried to be 100% safe. Simply use Multi root installer from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1822445
Flash that zip from CWM, select Superuser/SuperSU, and root your phone.

Have you flashed cwmrecovery.tar in Odin, and do you have the update.zip for it in the root of your sdcard?
I used odin to install CWM and yes I have a CWM zip on the root of my sd card..

Not able to upgrade to froyo

My objective is to upgrade to froyo.
I have stock samsung vibrant eclair. Device is rooted, has recovery manager installed, is not hardware locked. I have already installed clockwise recovery using rom manager.
I have bionix rom downloaded to my internal sd card's root folder. I select "install from folder" in rom manager. It reboots but I do not find any option to install from sd card. I do reinstall software, out just installs update.zip and reboots to 2.1 over and again.
In short, I can not figure out how to get into clockwise recovery. It just shows 4 options _ reboot, reinstall, wipe user data and write cache. No option to install from sd card. I have wiping data and cache but that does not help.
Incidentally, I had successfully flashed bionix but can not do it again.

Look on your internal SD card, do you see an Update.zip file?
Tried 3 button recovery procedure, reinstall packages, reboots into cwm, then install from zip?
Had issue with 3e recovery where it would do start you describe, but not from stock.

Try it more than once if you have rooted it already with update folder or superoneclick. It can take 2 or 3 tries to recognize. IT you get stuck Odin back to stock, then root and go from there. good luck
Locate the update file and delete it. In clockworkmod recovery app you need to choose flash clockworkmod recovery... its the top section in the app. Then choose vibrant. It will download and then flash it. Then choose boot into recovery. Then when in recovery choose reinstall packages. Then reinstall packages again. You should get clockworkmod recovery. Then choose your zip and locate on sd card and install.

Odd...maybe try flashing one of supercurio's voodoo kernels, they have cwm built in.

Ok i had the same issues i couldn't reboot into cwm recovery always to default 2e. I found workaround
1. Download cwm recovery for your phone
2. Rename that folder to update.zip
3. Put update.zip to internal SD card
4. Turn off phone
5. Hold volume up and down and power button
6. When you go to recovery go to install packages it will install cwm and it will go to cwm automatically
7.Now go to install zip from SD card find your ROM
8. Enjoy
I am 2e recovery. Tried to reflash it from cwm.
Is there a link to download cwm as a file so I can flash it using reinstall option.

Here you go http://www.2shared.com/file/rpqd2-ET/recovery-clockwork-2512-galaxy.html
Link gives me error - invalid link. Could it be because I am downloading it on the phone directly?

In the meanwhile I did this ...
Deleted update.zip from rot folder.
In rom manager, choose option to flash clock wise recovery.
In the file manager, I could see that update.zip file was now there .. 577kb.
In rom manager, I chose to reboot into recovery
Reinstall option in the recovery mode.
It gave me an error something like.
.. Inflation aborted ... ,(bad)
Seems like the file getting downloaded is bad.
Any ideas?

**Solved**
Here is how...
I can not say for sure that this exactly solved the issue since I did quite a few other things before being able to boot into recovery mode. But this would be my best conclusion:
- Open Rom Manager
- Menu -> Clear cache
- Flash clockwise recovery again
I believe, somewhere I had a bad download that did not do proper flashing of the clockwise recovery. Here is the link that ticked me..
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/koush/47399-upgrade-rom-rom-manager-problem.html
In between my last post and now, I did the below other steps:
- Got hold of a place to hook up my laptop to a decent speed internet
- Used Mini kies to flash stock 2.2 rom from Samsung
- So, at this time, I was on 2.2 already
- Used SuperOneClickv1.7-ShortFuse to root the phone
- Got error "Not enough space" during copying
- adb shell and remounted /system in rw mode
- cleaned up some bloatware in /system/app folder so that I had about 15 MB free in /system
- Used "3e_recovery_installer" to install modified recovery to address the signature issue with the stock samsung ROM
- Reboot
- Open ROM manager. Clear Cache as mentioned above
- Flash clockwise recovery, reboot, reinstall
- VOILLA! i am in the Clockwise recovery screen
- And there I flashed the bionix 1.2.1
THANKS TO ALL FOR THE QUICK RESPONSES, LINKS etc. Very much appreciated.

[Q] clockworkmod

how can i update my clockworkmod have tryed through CWM app which updates it but after reset it goes back to old one have tried wit unrevok wich froz on waiting for root and have tried wit terminal which never worked any othr way.
Download cwm Ingram file, then from your PC use fastboot.executive to flash, or else put image in root of SD and use terminal to flash it. Search the forum you will find both methods. Using rom manager to flash cwm is not permanent method. It just boots into recovery and use the 'update zip like ' file to temporary boot into another recovery. It just make use of cwm files in memory card to boot.

You have to install CWM recovery to flash GingerDX. Then you have to reboot to CWM and choose Install update ZIP from sd card, find GDX zip file and select it to flash it.

how can i install CWM please sir guide me step by step i will be so thankful to u!
Use this to install CWM recovery and copy custom ROM zip file to sd card. After that reboot your phone and tap screen several times until it goes to CWM. Then go to Install update zip from sd card and find it. Press on it, it will ask you to confirm your choice and after flashing ROM do full wipe. Of course make NAND backup before.

Problem while flashing CWM recovery. Plzz help

I was trying to install CWM for Galaxy Y(via .zip) which was successful but whenever I boots into recovery mode it boots to stock recovery rather than CWM. I have tried installing two CWM .zip files but both show same result.
P.S Can I flash Galaxy Gio's CWM on Galaxy Y?

why are you repeating the question it is already answered in your last post
anyways there are two types of cwm
temporary cwm - you have to flash it from stock recovery to get cwm ( the one you are using now)
permenant cwm - which replaces stock recovery
to get a permanent cwm you have to install a kernel which has an integrated cwm with it
Use only Galaxy y's CWM
ClockWorkMod Recovery is temperory if you flash it via stock.
Permanent CWM comes with the kernel. So flash a kernel that has CWM replacing stock recovery.
DONT FLASH CWM THAT WAS NOT MADE FOR YOUR DEVICE.
Dont use CWM of Galaxy Gio.
P.S. Dont repeat questions and spam the forum.
