I am in a bit of a pickle. I rooted my brand new Nexus S, but in the excitement, I accidentally flashed a kernel for Cyanogenmod first instead og the ROM first, THEN the CM7. Now it won't go pass the unlocked bootscreen. I have searched for solutions, but can't find any. If only the Nexus S had a SD card, I would know what to do, but how do I get a stock kernel transferred to the phone when I can only get it into Clockwork mod? I tried factiory reset and all, but it is not the problem, it is the kernel. I can get into CWM but nothing happens when I try to mout USB storage to transfer files and/or new kernel..... Help, anyone? Please?

You can mount your sdcard from recovery, there is an option for mounts in the first menu. Then transfer whatever file you want to flash.

It doesn't work. Ther phone shows up for a split second in Windows file explorer and then closes again.
Please post the exact model of your phone and the exact file you flashed, and the exact CWM recovery file you flashed.
Also, if you can get to recovery you haven't bricked your phone
If you haven't done it already I'd also flash superuser. If you are after a stable ROM based on CM7, I'm using NSCollab 1.0.39 and works very well.

Which drivers do you have installed, just the ones from the Android SDK? what Windows do you have?

when you flashed cyanogenmod after flashing the kernel, cyanogenmod automagically overwrote the kernel that you flashed first, so thats not the issue. try wiping data, then reflash cyanogenmod and the gapps.
simms22, the issue occurred because after flashing the kernel, I could not flash anything because it just halted on the Google screen with the open padlock. I have now uninstalled and reinstalled the Samsung drivers, and it helped, I then could see the phone in Windows Explorer and was able to transfer a new kernel and a new ROM, which actually was the NSCollab which I like because of the speed. Thanks all for helping me out. Have a nice one.

Good to hear
NSCollab 1.0.39 is pretty stable with the Matr1x 5.5 kernel it comes with and you'll notice a better battery life too.

Moved to Q&A.
No terminal access, no free internal memory
Hello everyone,
I am completely new in changing ROM and so on. So I searched all threads I could find to be sure, the things I am doing are more or less approved. Nonetheless, problems came up.
I installed this mod on my defy (green lens) yesterday by the following steps:
1. Rooted with superoneclick 2.3.3
2. Installed 2ndInit Recovery
3. Wiped
4. Installed this mod and gapps
The mod is running, but ...
Problems:
1. Internal memory is full. Memory on SDcard is almost completely free. But I cannot install any kind of app oder .apk oder whatever.
2. I cannot delete anything on the internal memory.
3. If I reboot, all settings etc. are gone, so I have to redo all the settings (name, language, wlan, ...).
4. Terminal allows me no access. Everytime I get the answer: Permission denied (which is necessary because I wanted to delet tombestones to clear the internal memory a bit.
5. The recovery is again standard, so I cannot reinstall or uninstall.
6. Because of the problems with the internal memory, I cannot install the 2ndInit Recovery again.
I am almost sure, I did oder do something wrong. And yes, I know, never do any modding, if you are not knowing what to do. And yes, I know it was probably a bad idea. And no, you don't need to tell me how dumb I am.
If anyone has an idea how to delete some internal memory and/or to get the terminal running and/or reinstall 2ndInit recovery, I would be very grateful.
Thanks!
Hi,
Your /data partition got corrupted while flashing.
To fix this, just wipe /data and /cache using the stock recovery and then flash a SBF using RSD Lite in bootloader mode.
Good Luck.

Worked perfectly! I installed froyo. Hopefully I get it done to install ICS. JB is probably still in an early stadium yet.

Good to know it was fixed easily.

Has anyone tried the 4.3 cm10.2 ROMs found over here (http://androidhosting.org/Devs/Dhacker29/cm-10.2/)? I was going to give it a go last night but for some reason my device got stuck on the "warning your boot loader is unlocked" screen and had to use Matt's utility to give it life... I may give it a try tonight when I'm not expecting any calls...
Sent from my XT907 using xda app-developers app
Yeah, I'm running the latest version of it now. I had the same problem. What worked for me was the following:
1. Wipe everything - system, data and both types of cache.
2. Install CM 10.2 and NOTHING else. Boot the ROM. It should go through now.
3. Once you get to the main screen, reboot into recovery.
4. Install the 4.3 GAPPS version. Reboot, get to the main screen and reboot into recovery.
5. Now flash the 4.3 version of Supersu for CM 10.2
6. Boot one last time into CM 10.2
All the links for everything you need can be found with a Google search. Later I may edit this post to include those links.

Thank you kindly for the reply... I got it booting finally but couldn't get su permission on TiB and what not... I didn't know about needing the 4.3 su ...I'll flash that now... again thank you kindly

TWRP isn't supported either from what I understand. You need to run CWM.
Any time I install 4.3, it won't reboot. It starts up initially, but I can't get it to get past the Motorola logo upon second boot.
I have tried the normal install method and this method.
Then recovery doesn't see the /data folder so something is wrong with the 4.3 install I presume.
Does it change the location of data?
Yeah I Tried It But It Had No Sound So I Changed Over To 4.2.2 AOKP.

I use TWRP, works ok. Got sound, data, everything working fine. Battery life sucks, but no surprise there.
My 2c
I'm running it right now. I must have missed the part about flashing SuperSu, because I can't do anything as root. I had trouble the first time I flashed with the phone bootlooping, but I flashed again and that fixed it. Battery life is somewhat poor, but I just found the performance page today (Icon was different, silly me!) so we'll see how it goes with a different governor. I've been having issues with Navigation and Bluetooth audio on anything except stock. Bluetooth audio locks the phone and I have to soft-reset it. Navigation crashes if you try to multi-task while using it.
Hello there!
You are probably wondering how to install CyanogenMod based ROM on this phone. Well it's easy.
In this guide we will cover how can you install CM over stock ROM and how to upgrade/switch ROMs. So let's get started.
--------------------------------
FLASHING FROM STOCK
1) Make sure your phone is rooted
2) Download CWM Recovery (easiest install is by ROM Manager):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.rommanager
3) Choose your ROM and download it to your SD card.
You can choose either Oliver's CM ROM(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2176244)
or Maclaw's CM ROM (http://maclaw.pl)
4) Download gapps to your SD card (Google applications like Play Store, Play Services and such): http://goo.im/gapps
5) Reboot to recovery
6) Choose Wipe data/factory reset
7) After wiping go to Advanced and select Wipe Dalvik
8) After wiping (still in Advanced menu) select format /system
9) After formating choose back (or return) to go back to main menu
10) Select install zip from SD card and when next menu appears press Choose from internal SD card (or if it is on external SD press choose zip from external SD).
11) Locate where did you put your ROM and click on it.
12) After successful install refer to point number 10)
11) Locate where did you put your gapps and click on it.
12) After successful installation choose wipe data/factory reset
13) After wipe choose advanced then click on wipe dalvik
14) Go back to main menu and press reboot
If you followed all the steps you should have a working CyanogenMod ROM on your phone.
NOTE: First boot takes time.
--------------------------------
--------------------------------
Upgrading / switching CM ROMs (only if you already have CM installed)
1) Download your desired ROM and put it on your SD
2) Reboot to recovery
3) Choose Wipe Cache
4) After wipe go to Advanced and choose wipe dalvik
5) Go back to main menu and select install zip from SD card
6) Select Choose zip from internal sd (or if it is on external SD press choose zip from external SD)
7) Click on the desired ROM zip file.
8) After successful install refer to the point 3) and 4) of this part of the guide (Section Upgrading / switching)
10) Go back to main menu and press reboot
If you followed all the steps correctly you should have a upgraded ROM. Or new ROM if switching developers.
Note: First boot takes time. Its because of regeneration of all files.
--------------------------------
There you go. If you have any ideas / recommendations / post them below

Ok here is a Bluetooth Test build. I want to say once the rom starts give it a few before turning on bluetooth for the first time. This seems to take care Bluetooth not starting the first time. Also be patient does take a few to start up. If you get any type of bluetooth error restart before turning on Bluetooth. My first time installing didn't work out so well. After the second time bluetooth had no issues starts right up. So i'm curious on your experience with it. Let me know.

Try to flash with out the gapps and see if it works i have tried both ways with no issue. Also if you can get a logcat that would be great
I have no problem with WiFi. multiple users works great so far, and can't be happier.
I did a full reset, wiped everything including SD card and copied it over under WebOS to be sure.
I'm on TWRP 2.3.3.0, and the only thing I've noticed is rebooting into anything like bootloader or recovery always defaults back into the menu with Evervolv selected, but you can always use the menu to select something else.
Love the new toolbox (although the multi-way UI takes some getting used to...trying to please everyone I assume) and updater...I just used it to install GApps which is FANTASTIC!!! Thanks for having core and full GApps.
Great so far, I'll kick the tires more today.

I didn't know that Gapps 4.3 is implemented in Evervolv. Now I've flashed it without the gapps and have no SOD and no Reboots anymore! But still "Turning Wi-Fi on..." - without success.
To make a LogCat for you I tried to install via USB "KernelTuner-4.4.7.apk" - everything fine so far - but I don't have a File Manager to install the apk. Sorry.
