Updating TWRP to install CM 11.0 - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After creating a ton of issues on my Verizon LG G2 after trying to update to 11.0 with TWRP 2.6.3.2, I've managed to get back into TWRP and do a system wipe.
I now want to update my TWRP so that I can install an 11.0 CM ROM. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to do an update. No success with GooManager and can't find instructions on how to use loki to do a TWRP update vs. a fresh TWRP install.
Anyone able to offer guidance on how to do this?
Thanks.

These are the best instructions I could find: http://theunlockr.com/2013/11/03/flash-custom-recovery-lg-g2-versions-video/
However, they apply to a fresh install. I get "# <-- [6n" when I enter "adb shell" and not sure what to do after that.
My plan is to:
1. Update to TWRP 2.6.3.3
2. Rewipe
3. Install this 11.0 ROM: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/lg-g2-development/258385-rom-wip-cyanogenmod-11-g2-vzw.html
4. Restore app + system data with Titanium
Unfortunately can't get past Step 1.
Also not sure if Step 4 will create all sorts of system conflicts or not... perhaps a bit risky to try to restore system data?

If you go to TWRP site you can download 2.6.3.3 for your carrier its a zip so just flash in recovery and wipe cache and davlik afterward the boot......also if your gonna flash cm 11 make a BACKUP first the before you flash ROM wipe CACHE,DAVLIK,SYSTEM, and DATA then flash ROM and gapps then wipe cache and davlik again then boot....

The development forum for Verizon has cm11 night lies and can help you with any ROM issues you have along the way but you should basically follow the steps I posted so you don't brick or bootloop and if you do have a backup...and you need gapps....don't know if you have

Thanks -- very helpful. So if I understand correctly I can simply flash the 2.6.3.3 recovery zip from within my 2.6.3.2 TWRP recovery screen? I just need to navigate to that zip file on my device and do the install from the device without needing to do any sort of command window stuff from my laptop?
Also, why is a backup necessary before I flash CM 11?

D802 Bricked. Please Help

While trying ti install CM 11 from TWRP i managed to brick the phone. I dont want to waste time sharing the details unless it's need to solve the problem. The main thing is that my phone is now stuck at the LG logo. Previously i was running the CM 10.2 Stable Build.
How can i get back to working condition? Either CM or Genuine LG Rom, I just want my phone to be up and running.
Please Help. I am really scared at this moment.
You don't share any details so I have to guess...
Enter recovery like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifi-ArGeTzQ , restore your Backup or flash another ROM, done.

I can enter both the modes shown in the video.
The thing is i was running CM 10.2 with a TWRP installed of version 2.6.3.2. I downloaded the CM 11 and went into TWRp to flash it but it couldnt flash the CM11. Then after searching the net i found out that TWRP 2.6.3.3 or higher is required to install CM11. The problem is that i wiped my dalvic, data, cache and system and did not keep a backup. So when the Cm11 wont install i was stuck in the TWRP as i didn not have the 10.2 rom file in the phone.
Then downloaded the TWRP 2.6.3.3 and also a CWM zip (just in case). Using ADB i tried to update the TWRM but still some other error shows up. Tried installing the CWm still some error shows up. i tried installing again and this time the recovery asked me to install superuser (though i was rooted). I selected YES and after that i am boot looping in the lg logo.
Anyways thats basically what happened. Now how do i get further and make my phone work again?
Please help brother. I am in deep trouble.
Thank You
Man... always keep a backup, you know, just in case
Shouldn't be a problem at all. You have ADB access right? So here is TWRP 2.6.3.4 those are flashable ZIPs.
Push the file, flash with recovery, reboot to recovery again and you should be on 2.6.3.4. Then flash CM11 and you are good to go...

So you can't enter the recovery like shown in the video? And the command adb reboot recovery doesn't work either?
At this point your only option is to return back to stock and start over but with a recovery from the link I provided in the other thread.

Ok then i will follow this process and hopefully be successful in getting my phone up and running.
Thanks for the help. Downloading 2Gb will take some time. So will post the result tomorrow.
Regarding rooting and installing custom recovery again, i will do that later. For now i just want my phone alive.
Anyways Thanks again everyone for the helpful information
Try getting to download mode right now. Because if you can't get to download mode you can't use the back to stock method
from my Note Thrizzle
Thanks everyone for the help and support. I have successfully reverted back to Stock LG Firmware.
I have some questions.
1. Do i have root access anymore?
2. Is my previous custom recovery still in my system?
3. If no for both then please help me with the appropriate article to root, install custom recovery and then install CM11, as my previous recovery was not able to install CM 11.
Thank You

Autorec is just the first step to twrp. Go to https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/development/twrp-twrp-2-8-0-0-kernel-f2fs-tools-t2898705 and get the bumped version 3.1.0-1.
Then put it in your phones memory, boot into twrp you got from autorec and flash the new version.

Hi,
It seems I have the same issue :
I tried to install LineAge, using TWRP 3.2.1 (from CM12.1), but nothing is working (I tried 20180425 and 20180404 nightly versions). After reboot I can see the backlight on the lcd screen but nothing else. Then I tested the installation of a CM12 version, all is right, normal boot. No error message written in the console. i tried also a CM13 install, same as Lineage.
Do you think I have to flask back to LG "OS" ?

Are you clean flashing? Make sure to factory reset, wipe system, data and cache before flash. Never wipe internal storage. Swipe factory reset again after flash. Try flashing gapps later after confirming that Rom boots fine.

Hi,
yes I wiped Dalvik, system, data & cache through TWRP, before flash. But I don't wipe after, I rebooted without GApps...
Maybe, because I read that somewhere, I need to flash a bootstack. I don't know when I have to di it, if I have to do.
Thanks

Yes, you don't wipe after flash, but you swipe the factory reset, it does not wipe but resets the flashed Rom. Give it a clean shot again. Check MD5 of the all files you downloaded with original MD5 to confirm the file didn't get corrupt.
Boot stack flash not needed. Please read the first post thoroughly in lineage thread
"""
Requirements:
Custom recovery (TWRP or any other)
KitKat (KK) bootloader (included in the lg-devs LP bootstack)
KitKat (KK) bootstack minimum; Please read the entire FAQ for important bootstack information. Installation of bootstacks is NOT recommended.
Clean flash if coming from another ROM or CM 13 (no dirty flash, wipe system too check you bootstack(needen bump support)

HELP! I cannot boot into system. Stuck in TWRP

I own the mediatek variant of the Moto e4 (xt1760).
I flash twrp as the recovery through fastboot.
I flashed a custom rom and then gapps and then booted into the rom (XenonHD rom). Then when I went to recovery and then clicked on reboot, then on system, the splash screen showed up and then it booted into recovery again. Im freaking out rn. No matter what I do, i cannot boot into System. Any kind of rebooting throws me into TWRP recovery!!
Try booting in to bootloader and choose factory mode....it should boot in to os
Same thing happened to me but I have the Qualcomm Chipset. Just boot into the bootloader from TWRP and select if you have a Qualcomm, qcom but not sure what that would be for you.
just wipe , flash the rom again , wipe cache and dalvik , flash magisk 14.5 , reboot to system
* you have the wrong gapps or another conflict with gapps
why freak out ? you can flash so many roms from recovery ...are you sure your recovery is a good recovery ?
also try to make data ext4 to get past magisk amd xposed errors about failed to mount data and install any modules
Please provide working link of Moto e4 twrp recovery mediatek version

I have this this recovery flashed. I did what you said and flashed ColtOS but w/o gapps and after rebooting it still went back into twrp. Does it have to do something with dmverity? I had flashed it after installing supersu the first time. Also, not able to go to the menu where you can select between RECOVERY MODE, START, etc. When I boot into bootloader, this comes on the bottom of the screen -
=> FASTBOOT mode...
=>device unlocked
that's it. I wiped everything but still boots into twrp.
Error unable to load TWRP.img please tell how to solve this error

I went 100% stock using SP tools. Then i flashed twrp you gave me by stupdroid and then i installed the dotOS and stock gapps 7.1.1. Now i want to use substratum so i need root. The guide u linked above should work right?
IF YOU ARE ON STOCK DO THIS * NOT FOR dotOS check below :FIRST PUT MAGISK 14.5 FROM OFFICIAL SOURCE ON SD AND PUT NO DM VERITY ZIP FROM MY POST ON SD THEN:
you can download modified boot.image and custom recovery files from my thread ...load the scatter file in SP flashtool but manually unselect all the check boxes ...manually select the custom recovery and modified boot image by clicking to the right of the check box in the line with the writing...a file select window will appear so just select the downloaded file ...as before switch off phone ..press download only ..connect usb ..wait for green tick to say done ...now
VERY IMPORTANT Don't switch on phone . hold volume down + power until you get to bootloader ...move your selection up or down using vokume keys until it says recovery NOT FASTBOOT then select yes with power button ..
in twrp flash first no verity
then flash magisk 14.5
then reboot
*if you brick you know how to fix :highfive:

Help!

Hi all,
I just recently did the OTA update to Android 10. After doing the update, I tried to flash this twrp version following this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/how-to/how-to-flash-twrp-magisk-android-10-t3988213
After this, I rebooted the phone normally and the update was fine. I then tried to go back into recovery (Decryption does not work for some reason) and install the newest version of Magisk. This caused my phone to hang when booting. I tried using the magisk uninstall zip, but it does not work since it cannot mount the data partition. I do not want to wipe this phone, as I would lose a lot of data. I think I could fix the issue if i could simply get twrp to decrypt my data.
Any help is appreciated,
Thanks

What version of TWRP do you have installed? Android 10 requires version 3.3.1-30 for decryption to work. If you are able to boot into the version of TWRP you have installed and update it to 3.3.1-30 your data should be decrypted. The only way I know of to do that is have TWRP version 3.3.1-30 on a thumb drive so you can read the new version from the thumb drive using USB OTG when you are booted into TWRP.

Will this be able to format data on Android 10 encryption like SHRP?
Flashed it from fastboot but doesn't come ,only comes fastboot mode ?
Only Sharp works in 10 properly.

Your not doing it right because everyone else is able to install all recoveries it's only you who is having these issues. Without a proper bug report nobody can help you though

It just won't boot. You can still recover from this by enabling the setting in twrp and reformatting data.
You will lose data regardless of this being enabled because this is only used for formatting data. That's what formatting data does

can I install shrp recovery zip and then miui12...
what I will do is -->
1. install this recovery in b slot through minimal adb
2. boot in twrp
3. install shrp recovery zip file (phone is still in b-slot)
4. change slot to a
5. reboot recovery
6. format data
7. install miui12
8. reboot
will this steps safely boot my device???
hello. first thank you very much for your hard work. i really apreciate.
so, i was on stock rom, freshly unlock the bootloader and flash twrp unofficial for android 10.
then in twrp i flash the zip installer and reboot to recovery.
once again in twrp i, like i'm use to, wipe successfully dalvik/system/data to erased all of stock rom.
then i format data (the one typing "yes" for confirmation) but it broke internal storage.
twrp does not show any file or folders. i rebooti in recovery but it won't show anything
i reflash twrp and the same... nothing.
so i went to fastboot mode and flash shrp, boot up in recovery but it was still not showing files or folders of internal storage. i wipe dalvik/system/data and reboot to recovey.
and this time it show folder but with codes like "QRGHQ9R4HGVUQE4RNG98TH9324HTG923" OR "66EFQ3KFK4TK34KT3K4K34K2KK2" and so...
what do i 'm doing wrong?
can i format data with out breaking internal storage?
the only thing i can do to get internal storage was flash stock rom again, i have not encrypted anything, i don't use microsd card, even i don't use password to unlock screen.
thanks in advance for your comments.

Ok you performed Format > And type "Yes" , actually this will Format your internal storage as well, RIP for your Data now else you took a backup earlier.
Now connect your phone to your PC with data cable , in mount section check if MTP is enabled if not then enable it , now your phone's internal storage shows in PC transfer Rom flash Zip files to internal storage, disconnect from PC and flash that rom.
Recovery choice is yours SHRP or TWRP
Note - Do not perform format > yes before flashing that zip.

Not able to flash recovery
I am on the latest stock android patch, probably that's why not able to flash recovery.
First I tried TWRP 3.3.1-2 Unofficial by Nikesh Kataria from the other post. As it said it supported android 10 with decryption and everything. But it didn't work.
Now with version 3.4.0-0, I am able to boot into recovery using platform-tools. But the files in /sdcard seems to be encrypted (judging by the codes shown instead of readable folder names).
Could someone please help me suggest any recovery which supports latest stock android 10 with decryption?
Is there a way around this?

Decryption will only work if you format data first. This is with every recovery. Has to be a factory reset of stock ROM or fresh install of custom ROM and from then twrp will be able to decrypt if it is installed, you're not installing it either by the way just temporarily installing it to inactive slot which will get wiped on reboot. For twrp to decrypt you must install it using the installer.zip by flashing it in you're temporarily installed twrp.img

Thanks for the help.
But after booting into twrp, how do I install twrp.zip. I even tried sideload that also errors out "Unable to find partition for path /cache".
May be I am missing some step. But here is what I have done.
Unlocked bootloader.
Booted into TWRP on inactive_slot(i.e. slot_b , in my case) with command fastboot flash boot twrp.img
Trying to install twrp.zip (failing at this step itself).

Put the zip on an SD card
Some ROM has some recovery integrated within the OS. If i install that and then the ROM, will the ROM's recovery overwrite this?
