Feel free to discuss 3.4 kernel development here and please don't clutter [DEV] threads again with any development unrelated stuff like it happened here...
This thread is now meant for any discussion about the new rom/kernel.

As the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2237755 got closed then there are 2 options.
1. Somebody is working on getting touchscreen to work. If you do then post here.
2. Nobody is working on the kernel.
THIS IS NOT A DISCUSSION THREAD!
Please discuss here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2563510
If somebody is working on it then at least tell us. If no Dev will say that he's working on it and there won't be any progress for 2 weeks then please close this thread.

Achotjan told me yesterday that he will probably buy from me a Xperia Play and work on this, so who knows

I'm trying to merge mike's sources with doomlord 3.4 kernel touchscreen fix, but I get an error while building as seen on my thread in Q A. I think if we could succeed merging the 2 ones touchscreen would work.

I think this has been done.. can you please check mike's thread .. and go through it.

I belive that 4.4 needs kernel 3.10. I don't see a chance you could get 4.4 working on kernel 2.6... Please write such posts in the discussion thread.

Unfortunately AFAIK this fix was meant for "xperia 2011 line" - that is mogami board. Our play is built on zeus board therefore it won't do anything. I think somebody tried this already. Use the search topic function in the closed thread.

Hi,
Can somebody point me to the latest sources that are used?
Maybe i can look into the touch problems.
What is the current progress??
I am getting an other play with some luck, so i am investigating into this project now.

Here you have my friend
https://github.com/LegacyXperia
You will see there the 3.4.x kernel, with zeus and phoenix configuration, contact with the developer to see his progress in his side, maybe you can make the touch work in Xperia Play @mikeioannina

Well the touch screen couldn't register any touch so that's the current issue, not one of those you can omit you can see most of the things on the first page and at the few last pages in the original topic which I've linked in the first post here.
Gosh and I seriously thought about closing this thread cos nobody actually replied that they would do anything

lol,
i will check that thread.
The sources above your post are the most recent ones??
@olokos can you tell me if anyone tried the fixes provided by doomlord (officially for anzu, but same touchscreen, i saw some commits with touchscreen driver and fixes for 3.4 kernel)
edit: still looking into it, but looks likes we are missing some things (see this commit https://github.com/DooMLoRD/CAF_msm7x30-3.4.x/commit/87a844df6b07be33704f4167b63dfaf782f0c6f8) this ins in the newest sources.
edit2: just going to compile a test kernel, don't think it will work, so if anyone can try. i can't test it myself, as i dont have a play anymore/yet
edit3: just made a zimage, if anyone can make a boot.img (use the ramdisk etc. from alpha build) i don't have enough time for it. https://www.mediafire.com/?sseg14ttz9zdg2z

Well nick, I don't know if you remember this but I had a doubt about your skills and abilities and I actually did argue with you, here, on xperia play boards when you were active here. I was a newbie yet. Now I know the basic stuff and I have to admit - I never had a chance since you left us ages ago, that I've been very wrong. But I didn't understand it instantly, no. It took me a while to find your fine work and you helping big guys in some really advanced programming and u have to admit it at last - my skills are nowhere close to yours. It's like comparing a Fiat 126 with bugatti veyron. Fiat goes forwards, yeah, but it takes ages. You were doing what you were doing without any single problem, it was like writing on a piece of paper for me. I'd like to apologize you for what I said back in the days and for me acting like the smartest one around here when I actually knew nothing. I still do not know much, but at least I know enough to actually realise what you you do.
Sorry for this and have a great new years eve party mate.

here is an other test zimage: https://www.mediafire.com/?t5l6uqihxt7gf0i
don't know if it works, but otherwise i have something else to try

i cant test it for now but here is the img file if anyone wants to test it
http://d-h.st/opx

My Phone has bootlooped with that kernel

you need to do these steps carefully:
1-before installing kernel go to the recovery of your last kernel
2-do a full wipe(important)
3-turn off the phone
4-flash the kernel in fastboot
5-now enter recovery with R button
6-flash the cm10.1 legacy xperia for xperia play
did u do steps above?

Custom X8 kernel for paul-xxx's ICS

as you all probably know paul-xxx released an ICS rom for our X8 which is apparently based on CM9 (correct me if i am wrong). however it has a lot of problems like WiFi, Camera etc. it also has kernel compatibility issues like gsm working on nAa kernel but not on alfs kernel and so on (again correct me if i am wrong). so i have decided that i will set about the task of building a compatible kernel for this rom. however that is not possible alone by me. i need the help of expert devs on X8. so let's start, shall we?
i can only can help you in testing , sorry im not an expert, i hope some people help you to compile the kernel !!!!
sorry my bad english !!
as i say any help is greatly appreciated. and could you ask other devs you know to help me out? thanks in advance.
I know that FXP is already doing something for MSM7227 for ICS
It is in their Git, maybe they are planing to port ICS to X10Mini/X10MiniPro/X8, or help on that.
I cant help because I am using W8 and I cannot unlock bootloader. I am sorry but I will help support you guys...
Hit the THANKS button if I helped!!

i have a question. in fact 2 questions.
1. can i use this guide to compile a kernel using this source except for the fact that the source will be different (in this case the ICS kernel source that you referred me to)?
2. since FXP kernel has compatibility issues with some roms, will a kernel using their ICS source be compatible with paul's ICS?
hope to see reply soon.

msm7x27:initial fork [freexperia]

@souljaboy11792 If you botherd to look at FXP ICS source you will see it's only for es209ra (X10).You can't build this for X8 witout a lot of changes. And what's the point of this thread when you know nothing about kernel building.(Don't mean to be rude)

Android 4.2 for Xperia 2011

I recently heard that FXP will stop developing for the whole Xperia 2011 series, when just around the corner, Android 4.2 was standing with a bag of goodies, for which FXP has a valid reason, that these devices lack ram to support features of 4.2. I decided to build 4.2 from source for 2011 devices, for those who'd want to try out the latest version of android. I can handle compiling ROM. But need some help with kernel. if you can help out, or if you wanna be a part of the project. Leave a comment at this thread or PM me. After public release, Dev's can submit their patches / fixes for the ROM to that thread....
I do this because i don't want us to be stuck with stock based ROMs forever and because 4.2 looks awesome . All in all, Thankyou FXP for your work.
one thing that our xperia 2011 devices (especially neo/v ) lack is kernel developers ,we dont have linux 3.0 kernel which which would have made the user experience of JB 4.1 or 4.2 better , linux 3.0 supports many advanced features of JB ,but due to lack of these kernels our user experience will be incomplete , building & testing out these kernels will take hell of time and patience.
i hope this doesn't disappoint's any user or dev just a suggestion
linux 3.0 kernels would be awesome on our phones
i wish you all the best for taking such a great project

Right now I'm mainly into developing apps, currently learning myself the basics of Kernel Development, I'm also capable of compiling Android.
Going to mess around a bit today, haven't compiled Android for my Xperia Pro yet.

Ok so.. Half way through compiling it failed, because of low storage or something. I read up online and found out that I need atleast 30gigs for compiling, where as I only have around 15-20 free on my laptop, lol unlucky I guess.. So project delayed - until I get more storage for my pc or if someone compiles for me if I give them the sources (if want 4.2 faster). And as for the kernel, instead of building a kernel (which may take long). I'll be modifying the current JB kernel for 4.2

And that's the reason why we don't have 3.4 kernel and 4.3 ROM yet. It's because nobody wants to share work with others or work together on one kernel and one ROM. Anyway i wish you all luck.
hmmm.. unity is strength.. Xperia play is no more about Cosmic Dans Turbo Kernel.. or Lupus's Kernel.. or AOKP or CyanagenMod.. (I mean all this in a good way) we need a "ROM" 4.2/4.3 for Xperia Play and a "Kernel" for Xperia Play.. the brand, the dev, no matters no more.. and the way things are,, I really think dev's should team up to make one Good Rom.. and One Good Kernel.. cuz I don't think Xperia Play would last till Android 6.0 .. so just this device one good last push.. and see how things work out. Split work will only increase/duplicate work.. delay the ROM/Kernel and maybe the ROM would never get rid of bugs.
Guys I don't think teaming up is going to happen, the old thread got deleted so I can't show you any of the stuff that happened. But it got pretty nasty so lets not bring working together up and just focus on getting a stable 4.3 build for our Xperia Play's

Actually yes that seems like a good idea, as 4.3 is only a minor update of 4.2 and people have had success on the play before building 4.2 (without wifi though). But my main concern is being ready for 4.4, which if it is as ram light as everyone says and runs just as fast as gingerbread as everyone is saying, would be perfect for our Xperia Play's. But beggars can't be choosers as I always say

Probably you haven't understand the problem: the problem wasn't you using some of the lxp's commits, the problem was you not asking permissions like everyone else; now probably mike want let you use his work as a base, but it isn't because he is selfish and didn't allow the other people to use his work, it is because you go against the common rule

[KERNEL]Nexus 7 Compiled from Kernel.org Source

Hi All!
I have been trying to compile a Kernel for Android from Kernel.org Source. Avidly awaiting a Nexus 7 I got straight to work. I have created a zImage. I have been trying to document the process but rather than type it again I have been doing it here. If someone with a Nexus 7 wants to give this a go I would be very much grateful. This is an ongoing process. I have included the file and necessary instructions here...
It looks like I cant post external URL's .... YET! If you want to post here or PM Me I will send you the links.
If someone could test this for me it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
I'd like to help. How do you intend to test the kernel though? (since I'm not sure if it would work in Android, but of course you're probably more experienced than me)

Basically people flash it and then test it. People can provide their own benchmarks if they want. Against their previous Kernel versions etc. I have a sort of active thread on the Neowin Forums about this but I cant post links yet on XDA. I also got my VPS setup today to build and host the files.

Okay then, I can do that. I assume you can PM links?
You might be able to state the URL address in your post for your kernel. I'd test it and I guess others may also.
Hi All,
I have someone from Neowin who is going to post the links for me.
At the moment my guide and files are all disjointed I am trying to organize it better.
Great idea! I'll look around your thread @neowin.
What supposedly differences are there from the native android kernel and one compiled using the code from kernel.org?
Personally I just like playing with Bleeding Edge code. You would get all the latest features from source as well as bug fixes most end users wouldn't see. Performance is to be determined, Battery life and CPU performance etc. Its also quite a little Niche that I like been a part of if it all works and comes off.
The kernel you're compiling most likely won't work if you don't even have the machine definitions nor the drivers for your nexus (seeing that you have taken the source directly from kernel.org)
The best of testing a new version would be to backport it but doing so takes an incredible amount of time and considerable skills.

I have used the Prebuilt ToolChain from git and also the defconfig to build the kernel from Google. I have created a boot.img this should make it easier. I am just waiting a Nexus 7 myself to test this anyway.

You need to have proper board files, proper drivers (device-specific ones) and tons more. I don't think it will work without those. Then chances are it's not going to compile properly; it will throw tons of errors. After you get it to compile, you have to get it to boot. After you get it to boot, you have to get it fully-functional (not necessary if this is a test kernel). So unless you have gone through it all, I don't think it'll work.
BUT I may be wrong.
It compiles no problem, That's what I am wanting people to test :good:

Ready to test! Check that neowin thread, but all the links I've tried lead to 404

Hi!
Well I have not been on this for a few days however I set up a quick and dirty VPS. Looks like the process fell over. I have restarted it and published any files people might find useful on here.

All actual builds are in the build folder.

I am trying to ha! :highfive:
Do you have your 3.4 Kernel? Do you have notes how you built it?
Edit: Updated to include 3.13rc8
I have done some more merging from latest Mainline and Flo Kernel from Google. Its building as we speak. Time to head to Tesco.
Hopefully what I have done will get rid of a compile time error I was having.
Has anyone got the ones I made previous to boot. I have my Nexus 7 on the way as of today so I will be testing it on my own sooooon!! :good:

A bit more easy to remember. There are some test builds and experimental stuff on there too. I might do requests if anyone wants me to make a build for their device let me know. Rather than the Nexus 7 2013. I only did that because thats the device I am getting

CM11 -- Build is done -- Link in OP

Hi Guys,
Today my CM11 build succeeded!!

Please tell me how it works. Im reaaally curious)
Thanks in advance
I believe @Kali- is already working on it and it's booting and working with few issues, but he's busy with real life stuff. I think the device trees are already up.
Edit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52921260
I'd love to see more devs on the Z2 side of things. Think it will be a slow process due to the rooting issues though

I for one can't wait for a cm/aosp/pac/pa build for the z2
Can't you use dooms prebuilt kernel which has recovery included? Also Sony have released sources for latest fw, it's referenced in one of the two doom kernel threads

If you still need the help, my bootloader is unlocked, and ready to flash.
Been waiting ever since we so that preview picture. Hell, i still dont use my Z2 because its so boring with just stock, still use my Nexus 5. Would be nice to see an AOSP/CM rom sure would get this device more exciting.
Also where is the Freexperia team? Have they closed shop, or are they just busy?

Is kali a memeber of freexperia? Thought he was only on the CM team. It really doesnt matter, it was just that there use to be CM builds and Freexperia so i thought maybe there was a chance they had something going.

Okay guys, here's an update from me.
Yesterday i was almost done compiling when an error showed op. It had to do something with the recovery. Right now i'm trying to use a prebuilt kernel from DoomLord. When i have got a build i'll send you guys an pm with the link!
Thanks for the update

I'm ready to test
Just out of curiosity, which versions of the Xperia Z2 are you coding for?
Any idea if it will run on the Japanese version? (SO-03F) I'm planning on getting one soon and trying to figure out my rooting options first.
Once I get it I'll of course be willing to be a guinea pig as I've got my current phone as a daily driver backup.

Time for the update:
I fixed the error by adding this line to the boardconfig:
TARGET_NO_SEPARATE_RECOVERY := true
Building again now. Tommorow you'll hear more guys!
Okay guys the build is done!! This time the compile gave no errors!
Right now i'm uploading the builds so you guys can test them!!
