[Q] Unable to reboot Milestone 2 - Milestone 2 General

When the battery is installed I get a 'Fault Detection' notice and please unplug all devices and remove battery and try again with the familiar batwings logo. There is no further action and I am unable to progress to use the keyboard or keys to perform a soft reboot. The body of the phone heats up noticeable within 1 min.
The Milestone has performed well until this point. I have tried several fully charged batteries without success. I am unaware of any system reboot buttons on this phone.
Has anybody got a solution other than the obvious one??

turns off and will not come back on for ages

hi
my htc touch hd has been a bit jittery for the past week. occasionally just turning itself off or having various hangups.
I have the Stock ROM on it and have not tried to do anything extra to it.
Problem is now it has gone off completely and won't come back on. Took the battery out for 15 minutes and it started briefly and went off again after the very first smart mobility screen.
any ideas?
hard reset if i can get it started or is it a more serious issue?
don
Sounds like you need a new battery.
Hi there,
i agree with stuntdouble, sounds like a hardware (battery) issue. Is your phone still under warranty? If so, HTC could maybe send you a replacement battery?
To diagnose whether it is a battery issue or not, please try the following if possible:
(1) Charge the battery to 100%.
(2) Disable from running or uninstall any 3rd party applications.
(3) Disable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi,
(4) Enable flight mode
(5) Set backlight to maximum settings.
(6) In the power management settings, uncheck any option that would set the backlight to turn off.
(7) Let phone stay idle for 1 hour and check battery capacity.
(8) If there is a loss of 40% or more, then this means that battery is faulty and needs to be replaced.
Best of luck.
My 2 cents
This should help identify if it's a battery OR hardware OR software issue
* Is your battery completely charging? (i.e the light in your power button should be green when fully charged)
* Can you access the Bootloader? If you can, will it stay there and drain the battery?
* Have you tried a complete Battery Charge Cycle?
Battery Charge Cycle (As I do it)
* Turn the device off
* Attach to charger / USB cable and charge the device until the light in the power button goes GREEN
* Remove SD Card and enter the Bootloader
* Leave the system powered on in the Bootloader running from BATTERY ONLY - the device usually does NOT charge from an external source while in Bootloader - Either way, just to be safe, disconnect all external power sources
I use the cycle every once in a while on ALL my electronic devices to ensure their batteries are being completely charged and completely discharged. It is my PERSONAL OPINION that ALL batteries suffer from a "battery memory". Google it.
(8) If there is a loss of 40% or more, then this means that battery is faulty and needs to be replaced.

- This is a good method of testing, however it seems the OP can't get the device to stay on at all, which is why I suggested using the bootloader. So no offence intended by posting similar steps. (I'm not a fan of cutting another man's grass LOL)
Ive been having the same problem as well.
The phone would randomly freeze or even shut off by itself and the only way to restart it would be to take out the battery and put it back in. Sometimes, it gets stuck on the "Smart Mobility" bootup screen and I have to take out the battery multiple times for it to actually boot up to the home screen.
It's been a bit finicky with the charger too. I would leave it charging for a bit and come back to find the phone either frozen or shut off completely.
I'm not sure if I'd be able to test if it were the battery if my phone gets moody and decides to shut off. How do you enter the bootloader?

(mine was not battery issue). The problem is corrupt file system on internal storage or memory card. After fixing the file system, I dont have this problem anymore.
how did you fix the file system? Would a hard reset fix the problem?
Take out memory card and do HR.
It should bring device to original HTC state... so yes, it should fix it.
In the meantime, you can check memory card on some PC...

[Q][Help] HD2 Reboots

When i turn on the phone it restarts after a while. Time of live is different - about 5-30sec, sometimes(rarely) it loads android successfully(but then reboot, max live time - 3-4min). It all started a few days ago after a full discharge. Phone without sim, without sd.
There are some topics with similar problem(symptoms), but:
* I have not changed the firmware in the last 4-5 months
* It's not a battery issue, I tried to connect a phone to power supply with cables (2 cables - one for + and one for -, ~4V) and turned it on (without battery). It turned on with the same problem. (notice: consumption=0.25mA)
* I put it in the fridge for an hour (without battery) - no effect at all. 10 secs and reboot. (so, it was the most probable, but...)
* I tried to boot with volume down+power - boots ok (3 color screen with text) and reboot after a few secs.
I have not looked at motherboard yet (don't have a little screwdriver). Anyway I don't know what could be the problem? help me plz!
p.s. sorry for my english
It could be CPU related or faulty motherboard. You can't be very sure about your battery. If you can try another one.
Does it heat up suddenly while turned on?
Also, next time DON'T put phone in fridge- you could made it only worse.
About battery. I tried to connect a phone to power supply (txn-1502D) without battery at all. And no changes - turns on, few secs and reboot.
I put it in the fridge in multiple packages ( I thought it would protect it from water )
And no, It does not heat up while turning. (at least on the surface of phone).
So, i think, It only remains to try to remove the extra peripherals (camera/3g/etc), and if no effect start looking for a new phone
And a little question, whether the consumption of 0.25A while turning on normal?
assuming this is not a hardware problem and the battery is sufficiently charged, sounds like:
1. your sd-card partition(s) may have errors on them and/or...
2. maybe your ROM installation might have been corrupted
for 1, remove the sd-card and you can put it in a card reader and plug it into your desktop/laptop. on the desktop/laptop, you can at least check the FAT32 partition for errors and repair them.
for 2, try re-installing the ROM or try another ROM altogether while you are at it. BUT, in order to install a ROM you need a good amount of battery which isn't charging properly because the ROM reboots and interrupts the charging. also magldr doesn't support charging so use one of the following methods to charge the battery to prepare for a re-install:
a. use an external charger
b. install the "4EXT" recovery which supports charging...installing recovery takes a few seconds and booting into the recovery via magldr also takes a few seconds. if you can flash and boot into 4EXT, then you can charge your battery to 100%. see my signature for a link to the 4EXT recovery for the HD2 (open the link and scroll to the middle of the page to see the links for the 4EXT download).
try to eliminate possibility 1 FIRST!
Sorry, I can not correctly described the situation, but in first post i wrote "phone without sim, without sd", so... About ROM - magldr doesn't boot android until I press something like "load from nand". And it reboots in any case over time. (even if I did not press anything)
So, i think it is hardware problem, but it does not look like overheating/battery issue and may be amenable to repairs in the home.. But now i can't determine possible causes.

I also didn't read your post properly
The highlighted part in your quoted post above seems to indeed indicate a hardware problem!

If you leave the device alone for 15 minutes rebooting, has the phone catched any heat? or is it just "Cold", Could be that the cpu is overheated, or the contacts are bad. Maybe try to put the phone in a freezer and keep it there for 5 minutes, then try booting it.
I would have suggested you repartition your phone to a higher amount that your ROM needs but seeing this "tried to boot with volume down+power - boots ok (3 color screen with text) and reboot after a few secs" I would say its pointless. This seems to me like a hardware issue, possible the motherboard has gone bad. If it was a software issue you would likely not get the reboots in bootloader mode.

[Q] Help with potentially bricked S4 [Xposed]

--- This may belong in the Xposed forum, I am uncertain. ---
Hello. Please forgive my ignorance regarding the technical aspects of methods discussed on these forums.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 supplied by Vodafone Australia. This was received today as a replacement for a screen issue I had with my previous S4. On the previous S4, I had rooted using a Saferoot method as read about on this forum. Later I had installed Xposed to use Keepchat and everything was fine. Today I have rooted this replacement phone successfully using the same method, and then moved to install Xposed. The Xposed application required an update, the very first option in the app was red and suggested an update or a reboot, and the reboot did nothing, so I pressed update. The phone turned off but didn't restart. I tried the usual button presses and battery pulls and finally a simple power up using the standard power button started the phone up. It got as far as the lock screen I believe, before shutting down again. It is now unresponsive. It wont turn on, enter the boot menu (multi button holding method) or charge. I believe the battery is quite low at this point, and unable to charge, causing me some consternation. It has now been over 30 minutes with no response.
If anyone could provide a resolution to this issue, I would be extremely thankful.
Regards,
CaleS
Try and ask in this forum my friend good luck

Hello again.
I have an update on my situation.
I left the phone on charge and it eventually turned on by itself. I played around with it for a while and it seemed OK. Eventually it turned off again. I had to pull the battery to get it to turn back on. After starting up again, getting to the lockscreen, it turned off again. This process repeated many times, until I got frustrated.
The next day I thought I'd try a factory reset via volume up + power, and the device managed to stay on long enough for this to complete. After the phone reset, I used it for a while and again it turned off. The same cycle continued.
Perhaps the phone is naturally faulty, despite my rooting attempt, as it was a refurbished model. I am quite happy to return it for another replacement under warranty, however I may not be able to do it as the device is rooted. I would gladly remove the root using stock firmware and Odin, however the phone resets after a few seconds of entering download mode.
Any advice?
Thanks.
Sounds to me you have a faulty power button. It's somehow stuck that's why it even reboots in download mode. It's a common problem for the S4. Try to wedge it or replace it.
if it is refurbished model it might as well be dead battery.
battery sensor detects "low battery" state and shutdown phone saying battery 0% - to protect battery against fully depleted state (damaging to max capacity or even impossible to charge at some point)
if you power it on again it will boot and say it has like 1% left and you will be able to use it for few more moments, but doing so will degrade your battery.
powering it on, going to lock screen for it to shutdown on its own again sounds like weak power source
imagine above scenario happening several times (previous owner of the phone kept "reviving" it after shutdown due to battery 0%)
that would resulted in battery able to hold only fraction of its standard power - allowing you to just boot your phone before it shuts down.
I had similar situation with my laptop battery (this one was on AC all the time) - battery was so damaged that laptop was shutting down at windows login screen - if booted on battery alone.
When booted on AC and unplugged it said 100% battery, that went down to 0% in a matter of around 2 minutes, when laptop shuts down.

Nook ST freezes completely and more.

Hello,
I have problem with my NST. Sometimes it completely freezes. Reset didnt work, I have to replug battery to reset it. And often battery is in bad condition after reset.
Sometimes aslo is situation that in default reading application pages are turning very fast and I cant stop it. you have to lock device (click power button) to stop it.
Also "touch screen" sometimes stooped work. Reset device always help to solve this problem.
First problem is the most problematic for me. I have to remove Torx screw and after that I`m not sure if nook dont need recharge - even if battery was in good condition before freeze.
Have you any solutions?
Hello puszcza,
I having almost the same problems as you.

I never needed to remove the battery. But there were occasions, when I was unable to reset, the usual way. Most of the times, it helps pressing and holding the power button for really long time (20sec). But as my device getting older, it sometimes freezes during boot However what always worked for me, is to plug in an usb cable. After a few seconds my NST booted every time with no trouble. One of my friends suggested - and I'm on his side - that these problems may be related to battery and the power supply circuitry. Poor quality of these parts, can cause voltage levels to fall or be unstable, and make the system crash. It could explain, why things getting worse as time goes by.

I used to face this bug frequently, but nowadays I don't. As far as i can remember, i noticed that when it happened i pushed the UPPER LEFT button. So, in my case, it might be because of the stuck button.
Anyway in the past few days my nook is freezes so frequently, I can't stand it any longer. And factory reset did not help. So I will replace the stock rom, and see what happens. I hope it will work. I will report my results here.
Thank you for repose.
I tried to hold power button really long - didnt hep. When its frozen and I connect it to charge I see green LED light. It should be orange, green is for full-charged.
For this moment I have custom rom, but these problems shoved also on stock rom.
I`ve be glad for totally frozen Nook tips.
So I installed some custom ROMs from these forums. But it didn't helped. Still freezes after some hours, and still the only way to restart it is to plug it in. I really don't have any idea other than some issue with battery.
You might find that your battery is getting old.
You can run a battery utility or my UsbMode.apk and see what the battery is doing.
If you let it run, you might see that your Nook freezes at what should be an adequate battery level, like 40%.
The battery is discharging, then falling off the cliff.
A replacement battery might be the solution.
In my case, I think my NSTGL was freezing sometimes because of ReLaunch (it happened with all versions from 1.3.8 through current 1.4.4), so some time ago I've deleted ReLaunch and using now Zeam Launcher instead - so far no freezing for quite a while. And in my case, I was able to force restart my nook by long pressing the power button.
Update: April 24, 2016 - No, it wasn't ReLaunch, it is Nook itself, and obviously - the battery is the culprit.

[Q] S4 Stuck at AT&T Logo

My S4 started acting weird a couple days ago. It would occasionally self-reboot when I woke the phone by the home button or the power button. During those self-reboots, the AT&T logo seemed to stay longer (probably a couple minutes) than a normal reboot but everything was fine afterwards (could still use the phone for hours without triggering another self-reboot).
The situation went downhill quickly today and now it always gets stuck at the AT&T logo. Press and hold the power button will reboot the phone until the AT&T screen and the only way to turn it off is removing the battery. I can still charge the phone but sometimes instead of showing a charging battery icon, the phone will power on when I press the power button.
I've tried a few tricks (remove SIM and microSD card, pull battery, boot into recovery and wipe cache partition) but none worked. In the beginning, I did manage to boot past the AT&T logo a few times (self-reboot with home/power button still persisted) but no luck since this afternoon.
Since I haven't made any changes to the phone in the 2-3 weeks before the above problem occurred, can this be hardware-related (like a bad battery)?
And at this point, is it still possible to unbrick the phone without wiping the data?
Thanks for helping!

It could be battery. However, most reboot caused by bad battery occurs when you run the apps not in the idle condition.
It could also be conflict in the rom (OS).
I do not think there a way to unbrick the phone without wiping the data (factory reset) unless the unbrick was caused by the battery failure.
